MET Plumbing

We reached out to MET Plumbing as they were highly rated on Angie's list as a plumbing company in the Houston area. We made a call directly to the company on the day of the incident. We were told that we should expect a visit later that evening. We were later informed that we would need to wait until the next day due to high volume. This was understandable as there was a recent freeze in the area and many were impacted. The next day I was charged $830 by MET plumbing to replace the approximately 4 ft. of galvanized pipe that sprung a pinhole leak right along a path from the water heater into the kitchen. The job took no more than an hour to complete and was rather straightforward. Normally, I would not be so quick to accept the work, but we had been without water and I needed my family to have water on as I would be out of town the following week. After opening two holes in the ceiling that required an extra $380 to repair and paint, they tried to add on an extra $200 for using an extra 2 ft. of Pex pipe in the repair (originally quoted at 2ft. total). I want to stress that last statement again. The plumber, by the name of Victor, informed me that I would need to pay an additional $200 to cover the material cost of 2 feet of Pex pipe *after* completing the repair. I would like to mention this one more time. MET Plumbing thought it fair to charge me $200 for 2 feet of Pex Pipe, after already charging me $830 for initial repair work during a time of need following a freeze. After asking around online, I was informed that this practice is textbook price gouging. All in all, this minor leak cost me a total of around $1,200 in repairs ($830 for plumbing, $370 for ceiling repair and materials ) for an unfortunate leak. Now maybe I am just not aware of how much this approximate hour long routine normally costs. That said, is it normal that a 4ft. Pex install should cost $830? Should 2 feet of Pex material cost $200? I am at least happy to leave this review on Angie's list to serve as a warning to others. This company's representative very clearly attempted to sell me 2 feet of Pex pipe, which nornally costs around .50 cents to $1.00 per foot, for $200, after I was already gouged $830 for a minor leak repair that took less than an hour to complete.

Technician seems to have done an excellent job, was informative, and timely, but they are more expensive than other plumbers. He tried to upsell me a stainless disposal for over $700, including installation. I bought a disposal at Home Depot for $140 and he charged over $300 to install it--it was a simple installation and took less than 30 minutes. They seem to have done a good job (although it was an easy task), but due to their high prices, I won't use them again.

Showed up on time and spent two hours doing the work.

Showed up at the tale-end of the 4-hr scheduling window. If I don't work, I don't get paid and my wife's a teacher. I couldn't afford to sit at my home and wait for up to 4-hrs. My 15-yr. old son was home at 3:30 and prepared to point the issue out to the tech and pay him. Tech showed up about 4:30. Wife was 5 minutes from home and on her way. Tech told my son they're policy prohibited them from entering the house if no one over 18 was there. Tech neither waited for my wife to get there, nor called me to make me aware of this problem. He just left. I had to reschedule for the following morning and take off of work. Tech completed the repair in less than 20 minutes and charged me $268. Angie's List Deal brought me down to $238. With discount, repair was about 25% higher than what my research estimated I should have paid. In conclusion, I'm a forensic engineer and investigate structural problems, often in homes. I'm often given access to these homes while no one is their. If just a teenager is there, no problem. After about 3 hours of work, I charge $300-400 for a professional service. These reasons are why I can't reconcile myself with my MET experience and what it costed me for 20 min of work.

They quoted me a price of $1700 with the excuse that the only way they could give me a warrant was to replace the entire unit. I declined. They called me back and offered me some ridiculous financing! I used Texas Premier Plumbing from Angie's List. They did the exact same job for $250 and told me to let them know what any and all needs I may have are in the future.

They schedule the appointment and they were on time. The technician wasn't able to find the problem because everything seems right. Believe me is a tricky issue that we are having. He didn't charge me and recommend me someone that work with the brand of my heater. Really professional, I will hire them again for other thing in my home.

Met Plumbing did an exceptional job.

They were able to get the work done very quickly. Had to come back out to re-do some of the work, but again came out quickly and were easy to work with.

They fix the problem and gave advice on preventing it in the future.

I sent these guys home. There pricing is 3 times normal rate for services offered. Beware they will prey in your opportunistic needs for ypubto over pay. Call someone else. They wanted to charge me $800 for a service that should have cost $150 at best. BEWARE

Matt, the service technician, was honest and trustworthy. The work was done professionally and effectively.

Called with 30 minute advance of arrival. Arrived exactly 30 minutes after call, sent photo of technician (good for elderly and women living alone). Fixed the problem in 10 minutes, only charge a call out fee of $49. So happy to have found a reliable plumber.

The pricing had me between a rock and a hard place. They need to work on their upfront communication on pricing.

Victor, the MET technician, is the MET company's drain specialist and he did a phenomenal job: He showed us the huge grease buildup (maybe 40+ years worth) in the outside drain line and, using a camera, that the bottom 1/3 of the drain pipe leading to the sewer was filled in with grease and pulverized egg shells from the garbage disposal. So, between the mixture of egg shells and and grease build-up, it was a mess. We picked the more costly pressurized chemical treatment over the mechanical "Roto-Rooter" auger treatment (which would have been totally ineffective) and when Victor had the line completely clear of egg shells and grease, we could see, using the camera, that the drain pipe was clear all the way to the sewer line. He also warned us about what to NOT put down the garbage disposal, checked the dishwasher filter, and gave recommendations as to which whole-house water filter to use going forward to keep the whole plumbing system clean and clear. It was a costly $710 repair (much more than we first expected), but we felt we got our money's worth with MET's competitive cost compared with other plumbers.
