We contacted Valley Ranch Appliance (VRA) over the weekend to look at the problem in our Whirlpool washer. The washer was working intermittently. VRA asked few questions and we setup an appointment for Tuesday with Service Call fee of USD 50. The technician was on time and asked pretty much the same questions as asked on phone and immediately provided the verdict that MCU was out and it would be very expensive to fix it without practically looking at washer. We requested him to make additional diagnostics like loose wiring, start button etc. He was clearly struggling with opening up of the parts or even screws for that matter. Thereafter, he called up his partner for additional areas that he can look at but didn't provide any additional diagnostics. Then, he called up parts dealer to come up with estimate for repair and provided us quote of 350$ (part + labor) to fix it. When asked about the breakdown, the total of part (220$) and labor of around 100$ didn't add up to 350$. At no point he offered to deduct 50$ service fee from the labor fee that was promised originally. I didn't pursue as we didn't have any interest in using him for future repair. Overall, total waste of time and 50$ service fee. We are back to where we started with our washer. This diagnostic could have been provided over the phone ( i even have doubt about correctness of diagnostics) and we could have decided our next steps accordingly.
