They did a good job. It was about 16 inches of insulation so it dramatically changed the heater and air conditioning from having to work so it was a good choice. I looked at another company. EAS didn't even have to come out. They had already looked at it and knew what the square footage was. The price was fine. I would use them again, but I hope I don't have to.

I found them on Angie's List. They responded very quickly to my questions. They responded promptly when I first made the enquiry. They were able to work with me to get me an estimate. They were very clean and cleaned up after themselves very well when they came. I think that their customer service was excellent. They were very helpful in working with me. My work schedule makes it very difficult for me to be at home to get the estimates and they just worked with me a lot to make sure that they could accommodate my needs. They were late sometimes.

EAS came out and gave us an estimate for adding 20" of insulation to the main attic, applying the radiant barrier (solashield) and putting in a ridge vent and more soffets. When they got done discounting all that it came out to be about $3200. The insulation guys were awesome. They applied the radiant barrier to the main attic and garage (thrown in as a bonus) and the insulation to the main attic. They were early, did a professional job and cleaned up after themselves. What I expect. The roofers on the other hand were not as good. They came out and installed the ridgevent and soffets. The ridgevent has nothing in it to keep critters out (I found out later when repairing my roof and finding critters in it). The soffets look like someone slapped them in without a care in the world. In a couple of places they damages the paint so much you could see it from the ground (on a two story house). I would have made them fix it, but they were working and then when they were finished they just departed. No "Were finished", "Would like to see what we've done?", "we are leaving" no they just left.
Description of Work: Added insulation, soffets, radiant barrier, and a ridge vent to the roof.

Guy came out to give estimate, was late, but things happen. He gave me an estimate that included discounts and promos but was pretty much impossible to decifer. I told my husband it was like buying a car and trying to figure out if you're getting a decent deal or not. My husband said to go ahead and get it since we really needed more insulation and efficiency in our attic. We scheduled for the next day. They were late again ("flat tire"), but the 2 guys got it all done pretty quickly. I don't know yet if all of this will lower our electric bill by any significant amount. What makes me mad is that I have an issue with them over a light dam that was installed on paper, but would have been impossible for them to install in real life. In the attic, it would have needed to go below our nailed down plywood flooring. They didn't even put any insulation in that area, also eliminating the need for any light dam there. I have called them twice to ask about this, and was told I would be called back within 24 hours. No calls -- they have been paid so ignoring me? I also asked for a tax receipt because I read that 10% of materials can be claimed on income tax. The paper they mailed to me is a complete fabrication with a "materials only" total of nearly $1000 more than I paid for the job.

The overall process was great. I just received my electric bill and it has reduced even thought the work was completed 3 weeks into the billing cycle. I am very pleased with the work and overall efficiency.
Description of Work: I called late afternoon for an appointment and was able to have a representative come to the house at 9:00 the next morning. He arrived on time and did a complete inspection of the house followed by recommendations. The entire process took about an hour. The initial quote was more than I had budgeted, but was competitive to the other pricing I had researched. I was able to use the Angie's List coupon which reduced the radiant barrier cost by 50% allowing me to proceed with the work and stay in my budget. The work was scheduled for the next day. I had radiant barrier and insulation installed and a solar vent. The crew that arrived the next day were very professional and were very careful to keep their work area clean. They actually called to see if was OK to come early. Given that the temperatures are in the 100's I was happy to have them complete the work earlier in the day.

I was not pleased with the inability to make the initial contact with them by phone. They seem to want to route everything through the contact form on their web site. This is typical of many companies with web sites, but is inconvenient since I need immediate service due to the gaping hole in my ceiling.
Description of Work: I wanted to find out about insulation replacement and tried the number listed in Angie's List but it was not a connected number. I clicked the link in Angie's List to go to their web site and it appears they are a large company / network with "offices" in cities across the country as opposed to a local firm. All phone numbers listed under their Texas "offices" are the same toll-free number. I tried to call it but was disconnected. I didn't bother pursuing their services any further.

The work was scheduled to be done in two parts...the roof work (vents) first and then insulation installation the following week. This was due to remodeling construction being done in the house. There was a minor issue with scheduling coordination for the vent work but a call to the sales rep fixed the problem. Note: Calling the 'home office' using the 800# was completely unsatisfactory experience. Little interest in resolving the issue, would only forward the request for information to installation manager.... Tip: Always deal with the sale person locally...this is a big company and they act like it at corporate. Vent installation went and upgrades were done quickly with no one needing to enter the house. They cleaned up all the miscellaneous debris and had me check behind them. The insulation was a bigger job and I was given an 8am to 10am window for installation..the crew showed up at 8:02am. They were very professional in every respect. This was a big job but the work was completed well before lunch. They were neat and cleaned up everything as they left. A 'test this' checklist was provided for me to make certain things like phone, internet, TV, etc. still worked. Apparently done to make certain they hadn't accidently knocked wires loose. Overall very good experience.
Description of Work: I called for an appointment yesterday and the individual showed up this morning at 8am. Of the three insulation contractors I interviewed (including one with an 'A' rating on Angies list this one is the only one who had any clue about what they were doing and took the time to actually analyze what my home needed. The work encompassed installation of new roof vents, replacing soffit vents (included increasing the opening size), soffit vent baffles, ceiling light 'cans', attic access "blanket", and approx 18" of blown insulation to a total depth of 24".

I am very pleased with the added insulation; our electric bill seems to have been reduced dramatically since the fiberglass was added to existing insulation to make the total 24" deep. I requested the technicians to be extra diligent above the kitchen area, and they appeared to have taken extra care that area was well covered. In 2008 we had radiant barrier applied as well as a new attic fan. These processes seemed to help, but we have seen the most improvement in lower electric bills with the fiberglass. The only gripe I have is that the attic fan burns out quickly. The first time it burned out (froze) EAS reimbursed us for the cost of hooking up the replacement fan, which they supplied. However, the second time it froze we obtained a motor and fan blade assembly from the manufacturer, but no reimbursement for the electrical connection. I purchased the more powerful attic fan, which has a 10 year warranty, and am disappointed that the fan doesn't seem to last one season. The sales and service representatives are easy to work with and very prompt in returning phone calls and emails.

This is an update to a report I did a year ago. Some people want to know if this product actually works or not. It has been about 18 months since we had the Radiant Barrier plus the insulation installed in our attic. We also had 3 attic fans installed. The difference has been amazing. Now, electricity has been cheaper this year so I have taken that into consideration. Before the work was done we could not get the house cooled below 78 degrees. It just wasnt possible. Our AC unit is 16 yrs old. It ran all the time. Now, I have it on 73. It was 110 in August and I was cooled down to 73. My AC bill for August at 9.5 Kwh was $259 for a 2 story, 2400 sq ft house. I wish I could Radiant barrier my car. You will get your money back in the form of lower bills, less wear and tear on the AC, and or you can just be cooler. If your price sensitive..remember call AC and insulation people in the dead of winter when they are bored and business is slow.

I have some working knowledge of the home energy efficiency industry & its various subtle tricks of the trade. Our experience with EAS was superior in every respect. They carefully explained what & why we needed the products. Provided a proposal that was understandable and flexible. The install & performance of "Stormin Norman & Juan" was just very impressive and encouraging to be the beneficiary of their preparedness & timely execution with care to the detail even under the duress of very oppressive attic heat in mid-August in Texas. Wow, what a company & crew - they did even more than they said they would do and fast.

I was skeptical that the teams would show up on time as I've not seen many service companies show up when they say they would. However, these guys were prompt, extraordinarily courteous and professional and took their time and did the job right. I was so impressed with the professionalism of the two technicians they sent that I'm actually going to write a glowing letter of recommendation for both of them to the company's management. This was a big job and larger than most of their work but they were done in about 5 hours, an hour longer than Ryan originally specified however, I felt that the two techs, Jimmy and Evan were going above and beyond, exceeding my expectations and did an incredible job. I later went into the attic and saw the material that Ryan assured me would out-pace the competition, it absolutely looked VERY different than anything I've seen before as it was very clearly a heavier and apparently is a more efficient product than their competition. I am thoroughly impressed with the service, quality, professionalism and support this company has provided and would absolutely recommend them to anyone, family, friends, people off the street. These guys are the real deal and in Texas, you need someone who knows attics and how to properly insulate them in order to save energy and money. Thanks EAS!!!
Description of Work: EAS came out and performed a free audit of my attic's efficiency by measuring the ambient temperature, assessing its relative difference to the air conditioned space and made recommendations for improvement. My builder did a terrible job of properly ventilating the attic although I had good insulation, there wasn't enough air flow to keep the attic temperature low as possible. EAS has a special offer of installing their patented Radiant Barrier product with insulation and added vents in my soffit for improved airflow. The price was actually really good and based on what I read here on Angie's lists, I went with them without getting competitive bids. I was leery of the Radiant Barrier product because I had that installed at my last house and it barely looked like they sprayed gray paint on the roof's deck material. Ryan of EAS assured me the product they used was far superior to anything I may have seen from a competitor. I needed to do something so I decided to go with the full program because I couldn't keep paying these outrageous electric bills. Ryan was very knowledgeable and professional and everyone at the company was incredibly supportive and courteous. We set up an install date for the upcoming Monday afternoon which surprised me as it was a very quick turn-around, particularly given they had seen a huge increase in business due to the significant discounts offered.

They came out and reviewed our needs to be more energy efficient. They provided a quote for radiant barrier that was supposed to be 50% off, but was considerably higher than a quote from Home Performance Concepts. We were interested in a solar attic fan and the salesman told me hat solar attic fans were not efficient and they didn't sell them. When I asked about the health safety of radiant barrier I was simply told it was safe, I would have liked direction to a study or a website for additional information since we have allergy sufferers in our household. We did not hire them due to the price, attitude and lack of product that we wanted. The salesman was on time and it was very easy to get an appointment.

In an effort to get more energy efficient, I invited EAS out to look at the attic and make recommendations. The house was built in 1969 and the insulation appeared to be the original rock wool. An EAS sales rep came out and gave the estimate. The sales rep was very thorough in explaining all his recommendations. I have to admit I was a little sticker-shocked (even with the use of the Angie's List coupon) but based on the comments made here I decided to go with them. The install date was pushed back twice due to my own contractor's delays, EAS was great to work with on rescheduling. Two man install crew showed up on day of installation and finished the insulation and radiant barrier in two hours. Several hours later a crew showed up to install the roof fan. Both crews were great to work with. Both showed wonderful respect for the property, discussed the product(s) and method of application(s) thoroughly, and answered my questions. In retrospect, while I think the price was high; I think I got a tremendous amount of value from EAS and would recommend them on the basis of the sales and install processes I experienced.

Called to get the free estimate. Mark Turnes came out to check the house. He was really friendly and spent 30min outside measuring the house and checking the vents. He came in to write up the estimate. They usally write up 3 costs, good, better and best. My house is old and the attic is small so he could only write up one estimate for me. We talked about what I wanted and discussed possible venting solutioins. I wanted the garage done and he added that since they dont usually do it. He originally suggested round vents but i was interested in ridge vents. Original price was higher than I expected and he suggested doing the insulation if i couldn't afford anything else. If I could he suggested the vents and if I could afford it all he said to add the radient barrier. I did not want to commit that day but he said if I set a date that day that he could give me a discount and put that price in the computer. He said I didn't have to give any info to him but just let him set the appt. He also said I could delay or cancel before the installers came out.If i didn't sign up that day he had to put a higher price in the computer. Since I didn't have to give out personal info I let him schedule it. A few days later I check Angie's List and found a coupon. I called the office and first person said if we used that coupon instead of their current special that it might be more. But the office manager called me back the next day and said altho they weren't really offering that anymore, that they would go ahead and honor it so he gave me a new price that was $550 off, nearly 30 percent. They have now changed that coupon. I was impressed that they gave me the discount. They couldve just said no. Then I told them someone referred me and they said if I gave them his info that they would send him a $50 dollar check and they would take the same off my price. Installers came out on schedule and were really nice. As other people have said, they put in more insulation than they charged me for. And they cleaned up all the mess. Vent installers usually come out the next day. Mine were supposed to come out the same day. They did but had been told the wrong color of shingles so they had to come back the next day. They did and did a great job. I am really happy with the work. The front door was open for several hours that day so my electricity bill could've been higher for the month. But my monthly bill was $40 less the the same month last year. I have recommended them to 3 people I work with. The person that does the estimate does do a lot of math and does try to sell a product. But Mark was really helpful about what I could afford and gave some other hints to lower my usage. I would recommend you make sure installers are aware of any special things you have set up originally. As I said they didn't want to do the garage but I showed them it was on the original estimate and they were happy to do it.

Went through Home Depot for INSULATION and requested estimate. After reading Angie's reviews, I expected EAS (contractor from Home Depot) to try to sell me radiant barrier spray, which I wasn't interested in. I told Steve as soon as he arrived I wanted insulation and ventilation ONLY, and not radiant barrier spray. With a shocked look, he immediately started questioning me and telling me about radiant barrier. I told him I only wanted an insulation estimate. Steve literally stuck his head in my attic for 1 second and then asked if we could go sit in my living room where he tried to sell me radiant barrier spray. When I told him radiant barrier spray is not recognized by the IRS for the Energy tax credit, he suggested that I should claim it anyway, along with the cost of installation (also not included according to IRS) and "most of his customers" were doing it. When I asked for references from people who had radiant barriers installed at least 12 months ago, he refused; saying that Home Depot doesn't allow it and that they had too many customers to give references because it would result in too many phone calls. He even told me that EAS would NOT INSTALL INSULATION UNLESS I ALSO PURCHASED RADIANT BARRIER. He started to ask me "how much do you want all this to cost?" When I wouldn't play his game and ended the consultation, he gave me an estimate for $1500 for 5" of insulation and radiant barrier spray. Talk about not getting the message! Are you kidding me? Lie on my taxes, no references, and refusing to sell insulation unless I also bought the radiant barrier spray? There is no way I would do business with this crew and I feel sorry for people that requested insulation at Home Depot but were blindsided by a hard core sales pitch.

The sales representative, Steve Reid, was very knowledgeable and helpful. He patiently and cheerfully answered follow-up calls and questions before the contract was signed. The gentleman who installed the soffit vents arrived first, and showed me the color of the vent covers he planned to use. At that time, we decided that the color might be fine without painting, but that we would check it before he left - he did not. However, when I saw him packing up, I told him that I wanted the covers to be painted (we had house paint on hand), and he completed the job. The team lead for the insulation and radiant barrier called ahead to let me know they were on their way, and I believe they were actually a bit early! He introduced himself and his co-workers and went through the process step by step - he even asked me if I had any other questions before they started! Quite impressive! The only other issue was that about a month later (after the holidays!) we noticed that an interior ceiling vent cover was hanging down on one end and the ceiling sheetrock was cracked. I called Steve first, who assured me that this happens occasionally, would be taken care of, and referred me to the main customer service 800 number. They were very responsive and sent a repairman out at our earliest convenience. He was obviously very skilled, and the damage was completely repaired. Overall, I would highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: EAS installed radiant barrier, loose-fill fiberglass insulation, and 20 additional soffit vents and covers for adequate attic ventilation. They also included baffles for the soffits (at my request) and light dams.
