That service went rather well. They were very punctual. They helped us out when we run out of materials. They were able to get the material right away and continue the job rather quickly. So, we were thoroughly amazed with that except that now some parts of the flooring are separating. My daughter is going to call him today so they could go out there and fix that. We chose him because he had very good rating through Angie’s List. I would advise other members to hire him.

Overall, my wife and I are happy with the results. Some comments follow: We are really pleased with the quality of the work. Their pricing is very competitive. The owner Rob is very knowledgeable about the process and does a great job explaining it to you during the sales process. Their workers and project manager are very professional. They kept the place very clean, even though I was warned about how dusty it would get, it never got so. Their process takes significantly longer than many of their competitors. I'm not sure if their competitors are cutting corners, or they're being ultra-conservative. Anyhow, we had to make accommodations to live elsewhere during this period. The color matching objective wasn't met, but we were warned that it would be difficult to match 15 year old aged hardwood colors. The project took a weekend longer than planned because the chemicals hadn't dried as expected. The hardwood finishing chemicals emit quite an odor, which we were warned about. We still smell them almost a couple of months later. Rob will push you to the project manager Ozzie for all future communications. Ozzie lets you know up front that he doesn't take phone calls after 6 or 7 PM, which can be difficult to work with if you work long hours at work. He does however take texts.

I was extremely satisfied with my new floor and with the service I received from Joe Hardwood. It went exactly as their Project Manager, Ozzie Vazquez, said it would. Ozzie was wonderful to work with - answered every time I called and kept me updated at every stage. The workmen were very pleasant and kept everything as clean as possible. I would highly recommend them.

I had a terrific experience with Joe Hardwood Floors. I chose them based on recommendations found on Angie's list and I was not disappointed. Rob (the owner) was the first contact I had. We discussed my needs on the phone and he gave me a preliminary estimate. He then came to my home to see the floors and take exact measurements. Next (that day) I received a firm estimate. I thought the price point was fair and we scheduled the project. The next step was a visit from the supervisor (Ozzie) the day before the job started. He reviewed the details with my wife. The team arrived on time and did a fantastic job. I was very concerned about dust and disruption of our home during the work but neither were real issues. The biggest problem was the odor of the stain/varnish-just a part of the process. The work was done professionally and the team was great. The floors look back to original! I am very happy with Joe Hardwood floors and would highly recommend them.

We had a very good experience with them. They were very professional and they did everything they said they were going to do. The floors are beautiful, they left the house meticulously clean, and they were in and out in the schedule they said they were going to be. Everything worked out. There's just not anything to complain about at all. The price was comparable. We did not want to spend that much money, but we didn't find a better bid. Quality was excellent.

The whole process was much easier than I thought it would be. I found JHF online by simply searching for Hardwood Floors Houston and called the number just to get an idea of what I was getting into. Rob Navon, the owner, promptly returned my call, walked me through the process and made time to come out to my home to quote us a price. We had something like 1,400 square feet, so the total price (which included the alcohol treatment for dark floors) came out to about $2.66/SF, seemed competitive from the research I did. Once we decided to move forward, we then worked with the project manager, Ozzie, to execute the plan. Ozzie was great. He was very professional, honest, and punctual. He came in to look at the job, then mapped out a timeline in which to complete the work. I think his estimate was accurate to the minute. He really helped us pick out the color of the floor by explaining to us all the various other tones that could be seen in the numerous browns we considered (they can also do all those blacks, whites, and various shades of gray in between). Our big difficulty was the language barrier between myself and the painting crew that I hired on the side. Ozzie was so helpful with the communication, really explaining to them when they could work in the house and when they had to vacate to let the floor people do their thing. I highly recommend Joe Hardwood Floors to anybody refinishing their floors.

There were primarily two men who completed the work. They were skilled, polite, and worked very hard. The upstairs landing required some intricate work due to the curvature in the walls and around the apron of the spiral staircase. They really did an outstanding job precisely cutting the wood so that it would butt up to the trim perfectly. We have been very pleased with the results and would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: We replaced carpeting and an old wood floor with wide planks of hardwood flooring in our dining room, den, living room, bedroom, closet, back staircase and upstairs landing. It was an extensive job that required quite a bit of prep work and coordination to complete and they were able to do it in about two weeks in spite of a few surprises with our subflooring on the second level.

The quote was not the cheap one but go with Joe hardwood floor since friend used it. Workers are professional and polite; job was well done and site was kept clean. It would be better if the wood could be sorted first to match the color smoothly. We had some wood pieces with large black spot installed in the middle of the room and had to be replaced after I pointed out.

I got to this company by visiting Angie's list. My initial point of contact was Rob. He was very informative, professional, and helpful over the phone. I never met him in person. After we discussed my needs he soon sent me a proposed quote over email. When I gave him the green light he advised me that his project coordinator "Ozzy"would get in touch with me. Shortly after as promised Ozzy gave me a call. We arranged an in home inspection to confirm the accuracy of the quote to move forward with scheduling. He was also very nice, cooperative and helpful especially when working with my busy schedule. We discussed the proposed work schedule and pencilled it in unless other work was not needed to free up time and speed up installation. 1st day of service was supposed to be for floating/leveling. The crew of 2 guys showed over an hour up late without notifying me that they were going to be late. The 2 guys were extremely nice and professional. They inspected and advised me that they were going to need to float in some areas and advised me why and where. I gave them the green light, they called Ozzy, Ozzy confirmed with me and they performed the floating. They were here for about 2 hours and left. 2nd day of service was supposed to the applying the moisture barrier. The crew showed up on time as scheduled. Again very nice and professional. They came in and started rolling the barrier solution onto the slab floor. They were here from 9 to 5. Finished and left. 3rd day of service was supposed to install the engineered floor. They showed up on time. By this time I have discussed with the installers about my desires in specific scope of service: did not want transitional pieces between my wood floor and tile, and my cuts surrounding my chimney to be square even though my walls were not completely squared. The installers did a awesome job explaining and understanding my specific request. They laid out the first pieces and showed me the results to verify if was okay with how the wood planks were evenly parallel to my walls. I gave them the green light and work was on the way. After they were done installing the wood they cleaned up and were prepping to leave. I asked them about the removal of shims and cleaning etc. They advised accordingly. I waited for a bout a week to remove the shims and cleaned the floor again. The floor looked amazing. The installation looked amazing as well. A week after I started to work on my chimney and realized that the so called squared cuts were not squared after all. I was confused, the 2 guys and myself looked at the measurements and with the help of a square made sure of its accuracy.???? In that week I got sick with the flu so I did not call them. 2 weeks and holidays later. I called Rob. Rob asked me to call Ozzy. Ozzy was puzzled but helped me without biases over the phone. That same day when I called Ozzy scheduled the 2 guys to return to take a look at it. The 2 guys confirmed that there was and error on their part with the cut and installation. On the spot they brought their tools and fixed the problem to their fullest capacity.
Description of Work: The provider came in and inspected the work area to produce an accurate quote. Scheduled inspection for optional floating or moisture barrier. Floated/leveled a little bit. Then installed the moisture barrier solution. Shortly after installed pre-baught engineered wood floor.

I should have provided this review sooner because I was very impressed with Joe Hardwood Floors' quality of work and responsiviness. |Rob came over and provided competitive quote. His crew did a good job of matching the wood to be installed to the existing first floor. They also came back to fix very minor issues such as putting the smoke alarms back and painting small pieces of wood that was missed but they did it promptly. Over we are happy with their work and price. Highly recommended!

Stage One: Tear out old flooring and float (level) base flooring. Damage to walls, sheetrock scraps and gauges throughout area. Scheduling this was not a priority for the provider at all. Was told they would arrive early by 9am, they arrived after 12pm (noon). (We had to move out of the house for a week for this next stage, the install and staining of the wood) Stage Two: Install of hardwoods and stain. The Bad: Our walls had wood stain, hand prints and even more sheetrock damage gouges/scrapes (more so than after Stage One). The gouges were as if a worker would shove, scrape or drop a wood slat against the wall when moving it to different parts of the rooms. Had to hire a painting/sheetrock company to come in to repair the sheetrock and paint all rooms. Staircase, entry way, living room, dinning room, and a bathroom (I'll explain in a moment). Now, I understand a slight bit of stain on baseboards is understandable, but there wasn't a 2ft section of baseboard in the area that didn't have stain slathered about on it. How it got onto the walls, 3-4 ft up I still don't understand. So this goes from hardwoods and possibly baseboards to having to repaint half the house. As for the hardwoods, there was some bubbling of the stain at the top of the stairs, that we had to schedule a repair visit for. The Disgusting: Our bathroom in the work area was left in horrible condition. Urine all over the toilet, floor, walls, sink. Stain/mud/dirt (hopefully) all over the floor, door and walls. Had to repaint it as cleaning it wasn't an option at that point with the walls stained. UPDATE: In response to Joe Hardwood Floors response Invoice: #11529, Date: 06/22/2013

It went well. The actual workers were very curtious and were very helpful in helping me pick out just the right stain for my home.I am very pleased with the quality of the floors and was just blown away by how great they looked when they were finished. There was one employee that was a little unresponsive but according to the owner he is no longer with the company. I didnt personally complain but I would have appreciated faster call backs from him. Once he was gone I was dealing directly with the owner who was great and wanted to make sure everything was perfect. I couldn't recommend their work more.

Contacted Joe and one other company, Joe's price were slightly cheaper and can start job in two days. Given time limit, we went with Joe. The project manager came the day before and did a quick walk through, was told it would be a fairly simple job, should take around 5 days. Two guys came as mentioned, on time, and very professional, one and a half day of sanding, then the rest of the time stain and apply poly (2 coats). Very neat, clean up after work, afterall, it's sanding, so dusts are expected to be everywhere. Now that I have had the new floor for about two months, some places are already showing light scratches. I took the project manager's comment and not to put heavy stuff on the floor until 30 days later. And we did-- we didnt move in until one month after the floor is done. So it appears either the quality of the poly or the flooring is not as strong as i thought. Which I guess is not really Joe's fault. Overall, I am pleased with the service.

Called for estimate to have hardwood floors replaced after they buckled. The sales person was very honest and thorough. He took the time to test the floors for moisture and then was upfront that he did not recommend laying hardwood floors again due to the moisture in my complex. He even referred me to a specialist to help determine the moisture issues. I ended up having to go with tile; but I am so thankful for a company with such high standard of ethics! If I ever have a need for hardwood floors, I know where I am going! Thank you for all your help! Great company!

I just moved into my new house and it came with very dark brown stained bamboo flooring in the study, formal dining room and great room. When I bought the house, the floors looked great, however, once I moved-in I quickly started to hate it because they showed dirt, dust and pet hair all the time (I have a white bulldog and a great dane)! Also, they seemed to scratch/scuff very easily. I received several quotes to replace the floors all costing around $6,000. I wasn't thrilled about spending that much money so I decided to look into refinishing the floors instead (hoping I could get the more natural variation of light tan/brown bamboo look). After reviewing Angie's List, I called Joe Hardwood Floors because they had the most reviews and a solid "A" rating. I received a phone quote from Joe, company President, and felt that he was very honest and thorough with his quote and explained everything they would do. His crew was at my house the following day to start the process. They sanded a total of 760 square feet (over 3 separate rooms). The entire job took four days (sanding took almost two full days). I couldn't be more pleased with how the floors turned out! The color is what I had hoped for and the floors seem even more durable than before this whole process started. I only paid $2600.00 for the job which is only a little over 1/3 of what it would have cost to replace the floors all together.

I have allergies and have found that carpet is enemy number one. I removed all of the carpet from my last home and my allergies just about went away. We purchased a new home in July 2013 and one of the reasons we liked it was that all but the master bedroom was either tile or wood. The floors are original to the 1960 built home but appeared to have not been refinished in their 50 years of existence. It made sense for us to remove the carpet from the master bedroom and also refinish the floors before moving in. Because we wanted the master bedroom floors to match the rest of the home we knew that this was not a simple or standard flooring job and contacted 4 different hardwood flooring specialty companies to discuss and get bids including Joe Hardwood Floors. I contacted the owner and scheduled a time to meet and get a bid. He showed up on time and put together the bid right there. After discussing the job and getting a quote I felt that he was as knowledgable as the other speciality companies I had spoken with but his price was better and I liked the detail he put into his bid. Others I received bids from had general, high level scopes of a work with a final price which forced me to call back numerous times to get the details or understand the cost implications of other options. Joe Hardwood Floors provided me with a 2 page quote showing exactly what they were recommending and the cost difference for other options such as alcohol wipe, extra coat of stain, extra coat of poly, water based poly vs oil, etc. We ended up choosing the following: - Install new, unfinished engineered red oak strip flooring in master to match existing flooring (Joe Hardwood Floors provided this) - We waited 7 days after this step to allow the floors to acclimate to the house per JHF recommendation - Sanded all existing floors and new flooring and filled gaps with wood filler - Alcohol wiped floors to make the grain stand out more (small extra cost but personally I recommend especially for light stains) - We opted for a relatively dark stain (they will test different types of stain and test in a non visible area if desired) - We opted for the Bona water based poly (Bona traffic) for drying time, odor and because we did not want the red tones that come with oil based poly over time. I read A LOT of information on poly and unless you desire that oil based poly look I don't recommend it. Not to mention the drying and curing times are significantly longer. The price of the Bona Traffic water based poly is additional. Note that we also opted for a satin based finish as we did not want a deep shine (gloss) that would show scratches. Based on my research I would recommend an oil based if going for a deep shine but the water based poly does a very good job on the satin finish and looks great. I read that the water based poly can look "plastic" when using the high gloss but I cannot confirm this. - The other option to consider is a third coat of poly. I went back and forth on doing this as you have to wait 3 days before the third coat can be applied. It requires a light sanding of the 2nd coat, application of the third coat and then waiting for 3-4 days before activity although some say you can do it quicker. We did not chance it. The benefit of the third coat is primarily looks if you have any dry spots as the Bona system is a two coat system for full protection. We opted to put down a third coat but in hindsight I probably would not do it again. I cannot tell much difference between the second and third coats and as mentioned it does not add any resilience according to the Bona two coat system. Joe Hardwood Floors was within 10% of the price of 3 out of 4 other companies and was the overall cheapest. As mentioned above, I did not choose JHF solely on price as I also thought they were equally or more competent and gave the best and most detailed service and bid. The responsiveness, professionalism and price together helped us decide to use Joe Hardwood Floors. During the installation I left the keys with the installers and they came and went as needed. We did not have anything in the house at this time so I cannot speak on trust of the installers with regards to personal property but based on my experience I would use them again with personal effects in the home. The one and only issue I had during the entire installation was when I covered the air conditioner intakes during the sanding. Note that they do not move furniture or cover ducts, intakes, etc. It is the responsibility of the home owner to do this and clean the home afterwards. With the intakes covered I came to the house one day and the guys had turned on the AC. Luckily I caught this before any damage occurred to the air conditioner but it could have been bad and this report would have been significantly different. After we discussed the issue we turned the AC off until all sanding was complete and the intake covers were removed. I did not mind the use of the AC but I did not want the sanding dust inside of all the duct work and subsequent wood dust spreading throughout the house every time the AC turned on. The crew overall did a great job installing the new floors, sanding and preparing the floors, staining and finishing with poly. They were on time, trustworthy, organized and mostly professional. I asked for a few changes to the thresholds where I wanted smaller thresholds and they were very accommodating. I had a special threshold to install in the master were a sliding door is installed and the guys did an excellent job making something to fit. I would absolutely use this company again but hopefully I will not need to for many years to come. I highly recommend them. Here are some additional recommendations for those looking to do this job and based on my experience: - If you are looking for a strong, no smell satin or semi gloss finish pay the extra for the water based Bona Traffic poly - Do not opt for the third coat of Bona unless you have some noticeable dry spots. The satin is a little dry looking by design. - Do the alcohol wipe unless you are going with the darkest, almost black stain. It makes the grain really stand out. - Ask the guys to test out 4-5 stain colors in an area that will not be seen (we did this under the master bed) - A dark stain will lighten up a little bit once the poly is installed - Install the best AC filters you can buy before starting and change them after the job is complete and house is cleaned - Shut the AC off during the sanding - Plan to hire a cleaning service or clean yourself but note that the sanding dust gets everywhere (baseboard, walls, counters, etc.) - Be present when the thresholds go down to give some input into the exact look you want

This was a challenging project because the work was done on first floor and second floor and had to be done in two phases to accommodate moving all furniture from one side then the other. But Rob and his people were willing to handle it that way. The refinishing itself turned out well. Sanded down old golden oak finish (which had yellowed) to new wood and re-stained to a softer brown (nutmeg) tone. Then used two coats of Bona's Traffic, a water-based polyurethane to finish. I asked to upgrade to new HD version (reportedly wears even better) and Joe's was willing to try it out. They said it worked well -- though dried even faster than regular Traffic, so a little harder to work with. Used a satin finish and happy with results. Had to be out of the house for a week (remember -- did this in TWO phases) but used that as an excuse for vacation. Good attention to detail -- had new shoe molding installed and it was put in even better than original. Good clean-up and kept dust to a minimum (though you ALWAYS have to do thorough clean-up afterward). Price was competitive for quality of work. Can find slightly cheaper, but paid a little bit more and got a first-rate job.
Description of Work: Refinished approximately 1,000 square feet of red oak flooring.

Really they did an amazing job. The demo of the old kitchen floor opened uncovered a host of unexpected issue. They addressed each issue with fair adjustments in price and time.
Description of Work: He replaced my kitchen floor with reclaimed oak to match the rest of my house.

My husband and I were very pleased with Rob and the crew at Joe Hardwood Floors. Rob was very punctual. He checked in with us to confirm our appointment and gave us a heads up when he was on his way. He immediately pointed our some warping from water damage on our floors that needed to be repaired, which other contractors didn't notice. He was happy to provide us with two estimates; one to refinish and stain the currently exposed hardwoods, and another that included three other rooms with carpet covering hardwoods. What made this company stand out was the attention to detail and customer service displayed by Rob and his team. The big thing: we received an itemized price list with descriptions detailing why each additional piece of work was necessary. We got two other estimates from contractors, and neither of them gave any justification for their estimates, which by the way, varied by over one thousand dollars. As for price, Joe Hardwood Floors was neither the cheapest nor the most expensive, but we felt much more comfortable working with someone who could justify each piece of work and who was reliable, polite, and professional. The crew were all very courteous and understanding when I had second thoughts about what stain we should go with. They were very patient and provided us with several samples. They hauled off all of our old carpet and tack strips with minimal remnants remaining on our walkway. The work is stellar - our hardwoods look brand new. And, when we had a concern about how one (very small) section looked, Rob made sure someone would be out within a week to repair it. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone looking for great work at a fair price.

We were thoroughly satisfied. The president came out to my home to give me a quote. He took measurements and prepared a quote. He then walked me through the process - day by day of what happens and how long each step takes. He was spot on in every way possible. His crew that worked on our home was friendly and professional, they didn't mess around! They came in, did their work, and left on time every day. Also, the quote was spot on as well so we weren't surprised at the end. We now have a beautiful floor on our third floor!
Description of Work: We asked to have carpet removed from the 3rd floor of our townhome and replaced with hardwood floors that matched the rest of the wood floors in the home.

I called and spoke to Rob, he was available to come over for a quote very quickly. He was able to give me an estimate on the spot. I had another company give me an estimate that was about $2,000 more than Joe's. And a third estimate said the floors were in such bad shape that they could not be refinished and should be replaced. I called Rob back and they got started 2 days later. The first day a worker arrived, he didn't speak English but he brought his young son with him to translate. It didn't bother me, as I'm sure that's how they are able to keep the cost down. I had workers in my house for 6 days with drying days inbetween. I went from a dated yellowish wood color to a rich brown stain so that required an extra day to "pop the grain." I also went with 3 coats of polyeurethane. My floors had awful scratches everywhere, large gaps between the boards, pet urine smells in places, and dark tape marks from where rugs had been taped down. All of those imperfections are now gone. Now I feel like I have the prettiest hardwood floors in all of Houston! The process of refinishing floors is a pain - with all of the dust (even with a self contained system) and fumes, and not being able to walk on the floors, but it is worth it!
Description of Work: Refinished around 1200 sq ft of 25 year old, very abused, oak floors.
