Excellent Job. They came in on Aug 9th, and removed the 1/4 inch round molding and did a sanding, staining, and first coat. Then painters came in and protected the floors as they needed to repaint the entire house including and the floor moldings. Joe returned on Sept 18th to finish the job with a second coat of clear finish. The work was top notch, as I expected. I had used Joe's Hardwood floors before on my personal residence.

We received multiple quotes from professional hardwood restoration companies. Joe's Hardwood came in at the most affordable but most importantly knew where to source lumber from to match the existing floor. Due to hidden wood rot and mis-sized floorboards half the kitchen had to have the floor removed and placed. No one else could offer the quality results and at an affordable price.

He responded quickly to phone call and came to house next day to give a quote. He was knowledgeable and professional. He gave me a very good quote. I didn't use this contractor because he was not available in time for it to work with our project schedule. I will definitely contact him next time I have a wood floor project.

Overall I was pleased with the professionalism of the workmen and their skill. They worked hard and smart, and they have a high degree of pride in their work. After the project started I needed to accelerate the timetable and the company was very accommodating in doing this for me. Their willingness to help with the schedule was necessary because we had to move out of our previous home and we had no alternative but to move into our new place. The final product looks very good and we are pleased, overall. I reduced the overall rating to B due to a snafu with the stair treads (the step part of the stairs). For the type of stairs we installed, the treads should have been longer and trimmed with a rounded edge. Instead, they were cut short and they are flush with the sub flooring. To fix this obviously poor design problem, I will need to hire a trim carpenter to fashion an extended piece of trim to complete the look we are after. I should have caught this design flaw myself, but the issue highlighted the fact that JHF is NOT a design company. If you are 100% certain what you are after and there are no design issues associated with your job, I highly recommend JHF. If you have a job that requires any design elements about which you are unsure, I would consult with a design specialist first so that you can communicate to JHF exactly what you want. As i have indicated, with this knowledge, I would use JHF again, but would be mindful that the job needs to be very explicitly defined prior to them ordering special cuts to any of the installed pieces.
Description of Work: JHF removed approximately 1,000 sq ft of carpet (including a carpeted staircase) and replaced with solid hardwoods. In addition, a bedroom with existing engineered hardwoods was refinished, stained and sealed.

Rob was very professional. He was able to come by the same-day I called after his existing appointments to accomodate my schedule. He was very knowledgeable of the stains and process. He answered every question, and even brought an ipad that had photos of other work they've done. He said they would be able to match my stain (dark wood) well enough so it's not noticeable transitioning to the stairs which are also hardwood. He left me with a printed-out estimate, business card, and even hardwood sample. The only reason I did not go with him this time around was due to time restraints, we either needed to start immediately or further out to schedule around other house repairs and another company was able to start next day. I would definitely go with them in the future.

Responded to our request for a quote. During the visit he answered all our questions, and was very thorough in his measurements (unlike some of the others who didn't bother doing a careful job). The quote was professionally and carefully done, and sent back to us with a clear breakup of time and materials, which we liked. After mentioning to him that he was more expensive than some of the other quotes we had gotten back he was willing to be reasonably flexible on price. While We ultimately ended up choosing someone else (primarily because of price), Joe left a great impression on us, and we may end up using him at some point in the future.

To get a quote it took 20 minutes, to set up the schedule, a couple of hours. All the different crews that came over three different sessions were very professional, polite, and efficient. However, each time they arrived one to two hours late. The hardwood seems to be a tad overpriced for the quality of the installed wood, but I also agreed on the job. I did not accept the quote for the stairs as it seemed too high for me and it was something I could do on my own. I was very pleased with their responsiveness. Few details needed to be touched up and they came back within the first week. Also, they followed up with me to make sure I was completely satisfied with the job.

Competitive price. Courteous staffs. Delivered as promised. They didn't sell/charge what wasn't necessary, such as float. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: Engineered Hardwood installation. I only supplied the hardwood.
We just bought a new house and wanted to put wood floor on the stairs, game room upstairs and the hall way towards upstairs rooms The house had already laminated wood on the first floor, so I was worried that if we can find the matching wood floor that will flow with the house. I had thee bids and Joe's hard wood Floor seemed most realistic one that we had. Plus they had a great review online. Rob was very kind, professional and respond very quickly. Once he came out to the house to measure and pick the wood, the project manager Ossie called me right away to schedule and talk about the process. Ossie was very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. The actual work was done by the contractor(?) who were also very polite, on time, clean after themselves worked efficiently. The job was finished on right on time, and we couldn't be happier with the result. The hardwood floor that Rob recommends flows nicely with our laminate on our first floor We will def hire them again when it's time to put more wood floors. Thanks Rob and Ossie!

Joes was on time and on schedule. Their pricing is fair, straight forward, and worked hard while they were at my house. They did an excellent job fixing the damaged areas, you cant even tell there was a problem. My only issue is they are not as shiny as work I have had done in the past. I dont know if it was a the polyurethane they use or that two coats wasnt enough but they are basically a satin wood floor vs a semi gloss (using paint shade here but I went with a nuetral stain not paint). I honestly like it or find it something I have become to like. Martin

Thank [member name removed]. I'm glad you liked the overall work. Satin has been more popular with my customers because its provides more of a modern finish as opposed to the traditional shiny look. Also, a satin polyurethane vs a semi-gloss hides scratches more and easier to maintain. If you are still wanting a more shiny look, we can talk about adding another coat of polyurethane. You can call me at my office number to discuss. Thanks, Rob.

I spent about $1000. I would tell others that they did a very good job, they were knowledgeable and they were not the cheapest but the end result looked very good. The current water-based finishes don't have the luster I wanted with the second coat applied however, I'm satisfied with the work they did.

Hi [member name removed], I'm glad you liked the overall work. The oil-base polyurethane does provide a little more luster than the water-base. However, we had to go with a water-base due to the fact your hardwood floors were pre-finished engineered vs solid wood, site-finish floors. The oil-base finishes do not preform well on engineered floors. Also, some of the engineered woods in the market to absorb the polyurethane coatings more than others. It's possible you may need a third coat for a smoother finish. If you are interested in a third coat, please call me to discuss. Thanks, Rob

Ossie at Joe's Hardwood Floors was a pleasure to work with. I provided the wood myself and had numerous issues with the third party vendor. He worked around my issues, found a way to get his guys in despite my constant delays and everything looks amazing. I later wanted to make changes to the original plan and he had no issue accommodating want I wanted to do. He is top notch. His team did amazing work and I couldn't be happier.

The owner did not want to come out to The Woodlands because he said he lived too far away but sent his "project manager" instead. The "project manager" kept me on the phone a long time because he said he could not find our address on his GPS--despite it being readily viewable on Mapquest, GoogleMaps, etc. He seemed confused about how to get to our location, which is not, by any means, isolated or remote. When the 'project manager' arrived, he scratched his head over and over and seemed unable to comprehend what I was asking the company to do. After 30 minutes of circumlocution, he said, "If you don't think we can do the job, we'd understand if you hired someone else." I thanked him for his honesty and wished him a good day. The owner later apologized and politely wished me well. This experience was a stark comparison to the other contractors I spoke to about this job, who instantly understood what I was asking and gave me detailed quotes in short order. We ultimately went with another company. *** Wow. Though the company's snarky response 'speaks for itself', I would like to point out that I described the scope to the owner over the phone and he even repeated it back to me, stating he would send a detailed bid via e-mail within 10 minutes. The e-mail, however, did not arrive until a day later and it did not reflect our conversation. For instance, the risers were to be of the same wood, but the quote listed painted-white pine. I did not change the scope when your 'project manager' arrived. It just seems that the company did not understand the scope from the start. In any case, my review was honest and I hope it will be helpful to others looking to have flooring work done in this area. Wish you luck in the future.
Description of Work: I contacted this company to re-purpose my hardwood floors by running them on the stairs and landing at my house. The owner sent me a quote via e-mail and told me his "project manager" would come by to assess the job and confirm the scope.

You know, I love Angie’s List because unlike many other websites, it allows good companies like us to respond to reviews that are good or bad. First off, I would like to thank Angie’s List Members for posting positive comments and sharing their wonderful experience while using our company. Because of our hard work and commitment to excellent service, we have become the highest rated hardwood floor company in Houston. We are also Super Service Award Winner 4 years in a row and have maintained an A-grade average since. Thank you, Houston. Here is our side of the story…..The above-mentioned customer called me to get a “ballpark” price on what would it cost to install 10 stair steps in her home in the [member information removed]. I emailed her a preliminary estimate before coming out and she accepted my bid and wanted us to start the work. All that was required was to take a simple measurement. Therefore, I decided to send my project manager to take the measurement so I could dedicate myself to more complex tasks. In regards to the confusion of the address, it is true the customer was not located on GPS, so we were just confirming over the phone to her the directions turns on Google Maps. Unlike many companies that give you a large window on when they will be arriving, we were on time for your appointment in the [member information removed] at 7:30AM coming in from inside the loop in Houston. Upon arrival, the customer tells us that she decided to change the scope of the project. Rather than us providing the new [member information removed] wood for the stairs, she wanted us to not charge her for the new wood and instead take up the same [member information removed] wood from her kitchen, clean up any nails or adhesive and use that same material to fabricate the stair treads. I’m sorry, but this is not a service that we provide. In fact, if you would of told me that was your ultimate goal, I would of not spent my project managers time and gas to drive out to the [member information removed] to come and see you. I’m sorry that you were unhappy with us, but your C grade seems a little misplaced and not legitimate, considering that we never worked at your house and you are just giving us a low grade because of your frustration that we could not handle your project.

They were absolutely amazing. They did an amazing job. The floors look like they are new original floors from the 60’s and there wasn’t anything wrong with the floors. They did an awesome job. They had a really light stain on it so it was just like natural colors. It still looked great but it was too light. I went with the more modern looking so we stained them really dark. They came out amazing. They were on time and they finished in a timely fashion. They stayed true to everything that they said they were going to do. I had couple of different quotes and they were the cheapest one by $1000. The next cheapest quote was $2600.
Description of Work: Joe Hardwood Floors reconditioned the floors of my 60 yr old house. It was 900 sq. feet of hardwood floors. My house was built in the 60’s so I have older hardwood floors. When I moved in they were very torn up and they were terrible. I had them sanded, reconditioned and then re-stained with a darker stain.

The entire experience was handled in a professional manner with care and consideration for my time. This was a three day process where the floors were sanded and stained day 1, and two coats of polyurethane put on day 2 and 3. The technicians arrived for work on-time, they were respectful of my family while on the property, and performed professional, quality work. I would not hesitate to use them again.
Description of Work: Refinished hardwood floors in family room
These guys did an fabulous job. I was particularly impressed with how well they took a rotting, yucky closet and laced it in. The floors look great--so much better than the old carpet that was there. Everything is level and smooth and looks good. Ossie and his team worked efficiently. Ossie was a great point person. One piece of advice--make sure to tell them if you have alarm wires which go under the carpet. We didn't tell them we needed the wires going under the carpet and they cut them. It took several hours to do the rewiring. I'm sure they see lots of wires which people aren't actually using, so I understand--they're in the business of refinishing hardwood floors, and they do look gorgeous.

We were working on a short turnaround when we contact Joe's Hardwood Floors, and though they didn't have people immediately available, they used a subcontractor (Carlos) that was managed by one of their project managers (Ossie), to ensure everything went smoothly. Ossie was very easy to work with, and ensured that I was happy with the floor stain colors and the final product. He met with me at the house both times during the process to do a walk through with me. Carlos did a great job of refinishing and restaining the hardwood floors. He was always available by phone where I could touch base with him each evening after coming home from work to discuss any concerns I had. Also, they left very little mess or dust around the house after they left. We had not yet moved in though, so there was not much to wipe down.

I was not able to hire Joe Hardwood because this job involved a house I was trying to buy and the purchase fell through. However, I was very impressed with the effort made by both Ossie (project manager) and Rob (president) in preparing their proposal and providing a comprehensive, detailed, articulate plan to complete this project. Prior to submitting their proposal, Rob and Ossie phoned me to make sure all of their assumptions were correct and to see if there was any additional relevant info to consider. I was disappointed in not being able to hire JH given their responsiveness and professionalism during this process. Should the need arise, I would look forward to hiring Joe Hardwood in the future.
Description of Work: Remove carpet and install approximately 1,600 square feet of new hardwood floors in a 2 story house. The job involved installing hardwoods on the staircase as well. The floors to be installed would have been engineered, unfinished 3/16 red oak on the first floor and 1/4 unfinished red oak upstairs. The entire installation would have required sanding and finishing the installed floors on site.
