I called Joe Hardwood Floor to get an approximate price to sand and finish the new floor that my wife and I installed. I told him how big the area was and described the layout of the rooms and he told me the cost and time it would take to do the job right over the phone. I agreed to it and he started within a week. The workers were there on time and very nice. We could not make up our minds as to which stain to use, so we changed our choice three times and not once did it seemed to upset them. I thought all that sanding was going to make a big mess, but to my surprised, it really didn't. At the end of the first day, our new floor already had the first coat of polyurethane! They came out the next day to see put on the second coat but t wasn't dry enough yet. On the third day, our floor was finished! The final product is excellent! They did any out-standing job! Every time I walk into the house, I can not believe how great the floor looks. When I have any work to do on hardwood floors, Joe Hardwood Floor will be the person I will call.

I called Joe Hardwood after meeting with no less than five flooring installers who shall remain nameless but who basically lied about various things (square footage, etc.). In exasperation I joined Angie's List and found Joe Hardwood. I called Robert and he came over the next day, showed me what he had, measured, gave me a bid, and at no point attempted to hard sell or b.s. me. I hired him on the spot and he showed up the next morning to start. His workers were respectful and polite, and I left them alone several times with no problems. The job was done on time as promised and the flooring looks great. He assured me that I could call him back for any problems, however we've had none. Can definitely recommend this company without reservation.

We had our carpet removed from the Master Bathroom and replaced with tile. They came out and I left them there and went to work. When I got home the floor was done however I had been advised by Joes to not walk on the floor so I didn't even open the door. The next day I opened to view my new beautiful floor. The floor was beautifully done. No mess left behind - just a beautiful floor.I was extremely pleased with the service, the price and my completed project. Yes I will definitely use them again and again.

Rob exceeded all expectations from the moment he came in to give me a written quote to fixing issues with the job that came up. He even coordinated with his brother, Joe, who handled painting of the stair risers as well as painting the master bedroom and bathroom. I would rehire him to refinish or install hardwood floors any day. Certainly price played a big role in the decision to hire his firm, but that was not the deciding factor. I had quotes from several firms on Angie's list. More than anything else, I must say that I relied on Angie's List and member reviews and comments and then relied upon the price to make my decision. Great job...well done...keep up the good work.

It was a four day process. Day one the old floor was removed. Day two the slab was leveled where necessary with concrete. It was good that this was done on Friday because it took most of the weekend for the concrete to dry completely. Day three a moisture barrier product was applied to the slab. Day four the new floor was installed. All four days the workers arrived within 30 minutes of the expected time. They worked quickly and professionally. We are really pleased with our new floor.

I have used Joe Hardwood floors in the past with excellent results, so I decided to have them complete another 500+ sq feet to finish up my house renovation. Our house has terrible sloping issues since it is raised and has had extensive work/renovations done over the years. Rob's team is really superb from a planning and prep perspective. The prep for our job took up about 60% of the overall schedule, but was absolutely necessary to ensure quality leveling and installation of the floors. His team is prompt, professional, and they work every day which is VERY refreshing. I have found them more expensive than other companies quoting the same work, but based on their results for 2 jobs on my house (~2000 sq feet total), I will say that I would never go to anyone else at this point to lay new wood flooring. The piece of mind that I KNOW it will be done right and on-time is well worth the extra expense in the long run. A+ for this company from me. Guy Moore
After receiving 5 estimates, my wife and I decided to hire Joe Hardwood Floors to install hardwood floors throughout our entire home, including the stairwell. First of all, the owner, Rob Navon, is a true professional, very polite, and takes the time to explain the process and answer any questions throughout the job. Secondly, his two man crew was incredibly punctual, courteous, clean and very knowledgeable. (Each one of the employees had over 6 years working in the business) Most importantly, they were trustworthy. I was not able to be at the house all day watching them and after just a few days I felt comfortable leaving them in my home alone. Even when they fell behind schedule 2 days due to issues with the subflooring, (not their fault) and due to our requested for a third coat of polyurethane, the project was completed on time. They crew worked Saturday and Sunday to complete the job. The floors looked amazing when completed and we have received nothing but praise from friends and family. One family member has already received an estimate from them and another is considering hiring them to install hardwood in their staircase. After completion, we contacted Rob about some detailing work we were not satisfied with, and he sent his crew out to address our concerns without any questions or hesitation. He truly wants his clients to be happy with their work. Even after all that, while moving back into the house a small rock got stuck to a moving box and scratched the polyurethane. I called Rob immediately and he sent his crew out the following day to fix the scratch at no cost. Joe Hardwood Floors may not be the least expensive contractor in town, (nor is he the most expensive) but in my opinion he is the best and well worth the additional money. You can never pay too much for true professionalism and quality work. My wife and I love our floors and would confidently recommend this company to anyone considering installing hardwood floors. We got 4 estimates to change 4 bedrooms from carpet to hardwood. Joe Hardwood's estimate was competitive. Dan explained how long each step would take and stressed that the floors would have to sit for 2 weeks to acclimate to the house. He emailed and texted me to let me know the schedule for the next day/step. Everything went according to plan, and the floors are beautiful! They seamlessly match the existing hardwood in the unifying hallway. We couldn't be happier. I would choose Joe Hardwood Floors again and recommend them without reservation.

My experience with Joe Hardwood flooring was excellent. From the start Rob addressed all of my questions and concerns. The floors went in quick and the finish came out amazing! I have seen a lot of white oak installations and the result here was top notch. I would not hesitate to use Joe Hardwood flooring again as I am so happy with the end product. I also had what I thought was a somewhat technical install with 2 sections being glue-down and 1 section in between being tar and screeds. The final result is that you can't even tell the difference between the sections and there are no transition pieces between the various rooms. Rob really did an excellent job of accommodating my wishes here. I also had him come back and do the shoe-molding (I already had someone doing my baseboards) and they also look excellent.

I was closing on a house and needed the floors to be re-stained. I called for an estimate and Rob came out asap! He was punctual and very professional. I knew that he was our guy! The crew showed up on time the very next day after closing. I was very impressed how the team worked and cleaned up after the day was done. The floors turned out beautifully, and I definitely feel we can now do so much more with the home. Throughout the process, whenever I needed to ask a question, Rob was very prompt in getting back to us. Last, the job was done on-time which was crucial for us as we were scheduled for a move. I would highly recommend consideration of Rob and his team!
Description of Work: Hardwood floors were darkened from a lighter color to a much darker color. This included sanding down the floors, applying a new stain color, adding polyurethane coatings, and finishing out the shoe/floor molding. The entire home of 6,000 sq. ft. was completed. Additionally, a few wood pieces were replaced.

Rob from Joe's Hardwood Floors provided the best quote to repair and refinish the hardwood floors of my house in The Heights. He was able to match the wood perfectly by using boards that had been torn out of another house. His team replaced all the bad boards, sanded, and refinished the floors in 3-4 days. I will definitely call Rob again if needed.

See above. I hope they use this experience to find better qualified installers or at least tell people that they haven't installed a certain product to save them the trouble. FYI I believe Shaw is the biggest floor company in the United States. HGTV uses this exact product in their Green Homes. You will find this floor at Lowes and virtually every large flooring store in Houston. The product is called Shaw Epic Engineered Hardwood.
Description of Work: Very disappointed with Joe's Hardwood Floors. I will keep this review objective because I think Angie's List is only as good as the reviews, and an angry rant doesn't accomplish anything. Here is what happened: 1. We got 4 bids for installing Shaw Engineered Hardwoods over a slab. We picked Joe's Hardwoods based on Angie's List and based on Rob's statements about their method; 2. We specifically told Rob before we hired him that we were buying Shaw flooring. Rob said he would make some calls to see if he could get a better price, so he positively knew what product we were using; 3. Joe's Hardwoods picked up the floors at Lowes and brought them to the house. They opened a carton, looked at the wood, pulled out the instructions, and nobody said anything to indicate they had any issues with installing a Shaw floor; 4. They leveled the floors (cost of $1,800.00). From what I can tell they did a decent job. It still is not totally level, and they left a pretty substantial spill of the leveling cement in a bedroom that I had to remove with a hammer and a chisel; 5. Day of the installation I get a call from Rob that they are walking off the job. The installers couldn't figure out how to install the Shaw product. I was shocked, and reminded Rob they had known that this was the product since before they were hired. Apparently they have never installed a Shaw floor, and didn't want to continue because it was taking them too long and they were concerned they wouldn't do it right. They picked up their materials and literally walked off the job with no prior notice. 6. I hired a replacement contractor who has installed 50% of the Shaw floors in 1 day. It looks great. I read the installation instructions and figured out how to install the floors in about 3 minutes. So, overall, I have to say I would not recommend them. If you buy a product they know how to install maybe you will have better luck.

With all due respect, I don't think I deserve an "F" grade for work that I never started at your house. We got as far as the float. Your derogatory statements regarding my company creates a very false and misleading picture to other Angie's List Members, those who are looking for a high quality contractor like Joe Hardwood Floors. When you asked me about the material, I looked into it and all my of my vendors told me that it was a "dropped" product. I always do research regarding the wood I install and I couldn't even find a picture on line. We were close to the install date, so I took a chance and accepted the job. When my men picked up your product at Lowes, we delivered it in your house and inspected it. The product were not in Shaw Boxes and they were not marked Shaw. They were in generic boxes. We examined the material and the tongue and groove or locking system that they had was one that I did not see before and it was material that was not very common. We were able to lock the wood pieces together on trial, but upon installation, we were having trouble and I didn't want to have us improperly install your floor and be responsible for thousands of dollars in damages to you. This obviously would of been worse situation deserving a bad grade. Given this, I respectfully forfeited from the job and I called you immediately regarding my intent. After we spoke on the phone, you mentioned that your were able to get another crew right away, the next day to install the floors and you also mention that they installed half your floors (700 sq. ft) in one day. That's amazing! Given this, I don't understand what type of grief you have incurred considering there were no gaps in installation time for you to degrade my company in such a way?. In regards to the float, I notified you on the day we were leveling that there were many irregularities of the subfloor and that we could not get the slab perfectly level without spending thousands of dollars in float. We both agreed to the minimal amount, which were 35 bags to smooth out the irregularities, but not leave the floor 100% level. Towards the end, there was a balance due of $162 which I did not charge you as a courtesy and you agreed it was a fair compromise. In your review mentioned above, you said we did a decent job on the float, so I'm scratching my head on why such a terrible review? I am requesting that Angie's List either removes this posting or have the client re-evaluate and give me a more accurate report card. Sincerely, Rob Navon, President/Owner, Joe Hardwood Floors, LP, Super Service Award Winner- Angie's List

I paid the price only for the labor. I had to have it done very quickly and they were able to do it for me. The person who came out and provided me an estimate was very good. He was knowledgeable; but he was managing many crews. He hired contractors to do work for him. Next time I saw him was, when he came to get the balance of the check. I had different quotation; but time was my enemy, and I had to pay. Their installation quality was good; but in the end they messed up.

[Member name], I reviewed your comments and object to the above average grade that you place on my company. Your comments regarding "messing up' at the end of the job is very misleading to Angie's List Members, those who are looking for a high quality contractor like Joe Hardwood Floors. I think it's important that your clarify yourself a little better when using words like "messing up". Perhaps I can explain to everyone what the customer is talking about..... We installed 1475 sq. ft. of laminate in [Member name]’s house which took approximately 3 days to install. After the job was complete, I came by to inspect the job and the work was done very nicely, with the exception of a transition piece at the top of his stair case that was not very desirable to me nor the client. We both agreed that it needed to be changed out with another type and I did not charge client for any extra labor expense to come back and install the new transition piece. The problem that the customer is talking about entails this transition piece that was installed towards the end of the job, instead of at the beginning. In any event, the problem was resolved. With that said, [Member name], can you do a better job explaining to Angie's List members why you are giving me a B rating? I am requesting that Angie's List either removes this posting or have the client re-evaluate and give me a more accurate report card. Sincerely, Rob Navon, President/Owner, Joe Hardwood Floors, LP, Super Service Award Winner- Angie's List

Rob was great to work with and was very, very fair about payment terms. Admitted that the particulars of our job were a first for his company, which speaks greatly about his character as an honest person. Turns out, his guys did a FANTASTIC job on our bamboo softwoods--yes, that's "softwoods," because bamboo is a grass, not a hardwood, which is what makes them so difficult to refinish. But Rob's guys did a fine job, and the bamboo turned out awesome. One note for newbies: Joe Hardwood Floors may have a dustless option, but we didn't pay for it. If you see two bids that are thousands apart, it's probably the dust containment system that's the difference. We've refinished two floors now and didn't use the uber-expensive dust containment for either one, and we were pretty satisfied. No matter what, you're going to have dust unless you seal up every window, door and vent except for one exhaust and one intake, turning your whole room into a giant vacuum. That's pretty expensive to do and wasn't worth it to us. Value for the money, Rob's outfit was top notch.

Their quality of work is exceptional. Rob is the owner. He is a very good communicator. It?s very easy to get a hold of him on the phone. He comes and does all the estimates himself. Everything is like crystal clear especially for someone like me. I am a layperson and I don?t know anything about hardwood floors. He was straight to the point and was very clear. I thought that was really valuable when you are talking about that much money. The price wasn?t the cheapest, but it was the second cheapest. So I was pretty pleased. There were some things that they came and fixed them right away and I can?t complain about that. I would definitely use their services in the future too.

The whole job took about one week...the guys worked very efficiently and it was clear that they were very experienced. The floor looks awesome and they were very competitive on their pricing. They also patiently worked with us to match a sample color and quickly identified the right stain. They were very neat except that they spilled some varnish out in the street next to the curb, but overall, a very minor incident and I would wholeheartedly endorse them for this kind of work.
Description of Work: Rob and his guys did an excellent job for me. They sanded, stained and revarnished approximately 1500 sf of wood flooring in our 50 yr old house. They also put down newly stained and varnished shoe molding throughout and did an excellent job on that as well.

Their work is impeccable. They installed pre-finished hardwood floors and did a perfect job with the installation. My only complaint was that the original estimate was grossly underestimated based on the subflooring requirements. I signed the agreement with them assuming one price and was quoted a higher price upon having his installers review the site. However, this was only after the original down payment was paid and I do believe they would have refunded my money had I requested not to start the job. I was not upset with the original increased estimate. But after they had worked a week on the job, they requested another increase of about $3000 which, while potentially necessary because of the poor subfloor, it was a huge oversight from the original quote. I ended up paying because they had completed most of the subfloor by that point and I didn't want to bring someone else in that late in the process. Regardless, they finished the job and the results were outstanding. I would use them again because I feel like I got what I paid for. However, I will go in knowing that they are a higher priced vendor at this point.
Description of Work: The $7000 did not include materials (i.e. - prefinished wood floors), but included subflooring (plywood) along entire 1000 sq feet of space, leveling compound, and labor for nail installation of flooring.

Very pleased with this company. They were punctual and professional. They went as far as to seal all clothing hanging in the closets with plastic and they used a machine that bagged and contained most of the dust so there was very little that I had to clean-up. They also replaced all of the old quarter-round with new quarter-round stained to match the floor's finish. They paid attention to detail and finished the job w/i the time frame given (3 days). The cost of the job was very reasonable for all of the work that they did. I've dealt with a few contractors in my time and this is the only one that I can say anything nice about. :)

Rob came by and gave me a really reasonable quote for replacing the carpet on my stairs to match the hardwood flooring I had on the second floor in my townhome. Many flooring companies would not install wood on stairs. Within a week his guys were here and the stain/wood texture (landing is 'knottier' than the steps to match the knots in the planks upstairs) were right on. Two coats of polyurethane later and I was happy. Or so I thought. I noticed a few weeks later that my stairs didn't have the same luster as the pre-existing floor. I called Rob and asked if he could come back and put another coat of polyurethane on. He said "No problem!" and his guys were back within a week at no additional charge. Now a week later I am extremely pleased with my stairs. I would definitely call Rob at Joe's Hardwood floors if I had any hardwood flooring needs. His guys were on time, timely, courteous, and did excellent work. I was a bit nervous for the round-edged landing and the color of the stain but they were right now.

Description of Work: I had arranged to pruchase a home on Friday 9/18, and they started that day, and worked Friday, Saturaday, and Sunday to refinish the two floors in the living room, and bedroom with original hardwood floors installed in the 50's . their work was fantastic. The floors looked like new installations. the crew was great at minimizing dust, and cleaned up after themseleves. I was so impressed that they finished the work in time for me to move in on Monday, and walk on the finished floors. I am a customer with high expectations for service, and I would highly recommed Joe's hardwood floors. They did high quality work at a reasonible price, and I can not say enmough good things about them Mike Sternesky .

It went wonderfully well. Rob assigned his most experienced and perfectionist crew -- Pancho and Leviv -- to my floor, knowing it needed special care. By sanding the water-stained spots (4 or 5 of them, from roof and water pipe and plumbing leaks over the years), they quickly determined which slats needed replacing, and did an expert job of that, not marring any of the surrounding slats. They also did about 15 or 20 epoxy injections, sealing those boards tight to the floor. They put heavy bags atop the new boards to make sure they dried securely, without warping. When I was ready for the second visit, Rob scheduled them over a three-day period. But then Pancho made the right decision NOT to stain after all, since he knew I wanted the maple to be light, not dark. So they didn't need all 3 days, which gave me a nice break in-between the two coats of polyurethene. When, after the first coat, I asked about a few dark circles that the epoxy injections left, Pancho said he would fix those cosmetic flaws in front of the fireplace, and he did a superb job of that on the final day! (The epoxy marks in the bathroom were far less visible, and not in an eye-catching place in the house, so we agreed they didn't need that extra cosmetic covering!). I expressed my concern that the boards to the left of the toilet (plumbing leak) were still too dark. They agreed to replace them on the last day. (Luckily, I had just enough extra slats to cover that area!) After letting the first coat dry an extra day, Pancho and Leviv returned on Saturday morning -- EARLY -- along with Rob, who did a careful inspection with me. Because maple is so light, I found a few flecks of dirt and wood shavings that had embedded themselves under the coating, and I had marked them with sticky notes so Pancho could see them easily. I had to be at a meeting that morning, but I promised to return before they left, so I could go upstairs before the floor became "off limits" for walking. When they were done, Pancho left my key in an envelope under my garage door, which I'd raised ever so slightly. Later that evening, I tested the floor to make sure it wasn't tacky, before I dared walk on it. Boy was it ever beautiful! It's a gorgeous sheen, and so smooth. The new molding -- now the right coloring -- makes such a difference. The maple "transition piece" to the tiled kitchen is restored to its original beauty -- even moreso, because Pancho and Leviv removed the unsightly nails that had been hammered into it by the original floor installer, as well as the unsightly glue that had held the piece in place (and that had been visible on the kitchen tiles). I found only three tiny pieces of dirt in prominent places that needed fixing. Pancho came back promptly to remove those carefully, using a special knife and some alcohol. He even offered to help me lift my dining room table, clean its four feet with alcohol, then stick new felt "feet for furniture" on each. I couldn't be more satisfied.
Description of Work: My engineered floor had water stains, scuff and scratch marks, the wrong shoe molding (pine instead of maple), as well as a few loose boards. Rob Navon wrote a proposal on the spot, discussed with me how I could have the loose boards secured with epoxy injections and the badly water-stained ones replaced with my extra slats, and agreed to do that part of the work before my replacement windows were installed and the sanding, buffing, staining, coating work (as well as laying down new molding) after the Window Guys' work was done. So that's what we did, as I'll describe below.
