A bad experience soothed over with a call from the owner.
Description of Work: * I have revived this review after the owner contacted me, asking that that I reconsider. He spent a great deal of time explaining what had happened. I stand by my original review, but I was assured by the owner my experience was the exception. He was pleasant and clearly concerned. My original review was pretty scathing, but factual. I also took into account their reviews here. ----------------------- Revived version. I called because my pilot would not stay lit on my water heater. My main issue was the person on the phone was knowledgeable enough to diagnose my issue, but didn't know any of the specs (like BTU's or life span) and gave me only one option as a replacement. I would have preffered someone coming out, diagnosing the probem and giving me options, repair or replace, and if replace, discussing what needs are and fitting me with a suitable unit. I cancelled my installation because I felt uncomfortable with them replacing an appliance without knowing if it would suit my needs. The good: They were the only company of 3 with immediate service on Saturday, St Patty's Day. The price seemed very reasonable. Had I had it replaced I would estimate from call to finish would have been about 5 hours on a Saturday.

My experience with Houston Water Heaters was excellent. This company seems to be very well run; they are quick, efficient and professional. Setting up the actual appointment was painless. The crew arrived within the quoted arrival time, removed the old water heater and installed a new system in about an hour and a half. During the replacement process, they had to perform a few minor modifications to bring my plumbing up to code, which added slightly to the quoted price. On balance, I am extremely happy with the service provided by this company, will use them again in the future, and will recommend them to my friends.
Description of Work: Our 10 year old water heater developed a leak on Friday, requiring immediate replacement. I called Houston Water Heaters and talked with Steve, who was quite helpful over the phone. He offered an extremely competitive price for replacement and installation of a Rheem Fury water heater, with same day installation. For comparison, another highly rated competitor on Angie's list gave me a quote nearly $500 above Houston Water Heaters for an identical system.

My old water started leaking (on a Friday, of course) so I called Houston Water Heaters. I knew my old water heater was on borrowed time, so I had their number handy, based on Angies List reviews. They were able to fit me in the following day. The guys worked fast! They had my old water heater out and installed a new Rheem 50 gallon with a 6 year warranty on tank and 1 year warranty on labor. They also replaced the old gas valve and installed new flex connectors. All this in less than an hour - even with me chatting all the while - sorry guys. Great service, very clean, very quick.

What a great company. I had concerns since my current water heater was 7 years old, I know that is not extremely old for the service life of a water heater however when it is installed in the attic you seem to worry about water leakage and damage if the water heater had a catastrophic failure. I made all the arrangements over the phone with Joe. He seemed very knowledgeable and presented me with all the choices as to heaters that were available. The Technicians arrive on the schedule date and time and did an excellent job. It was evident these guys knew their job, They laid down tarps on the floor and cleaned up the area when the task was accomplished. Water Heater installation is all this company does and it was very evident by their performance. I believe they set the benchmark for other installers to emulate. Thanks for a job well done.

Spoke to Steve by phone. He asked very good questions and was able to determine exactly what needed to be done to replace my leaking water heater, and he gave me an estimate. The installers showed up on time and were very polite and professional. My old water heater was not in compliance with code, so my installation required some additional piping to be run through an exterior wall; this work was done very neatly and with minimal impact on the exterior. The actual cost was the same as the estimate. Great job!

Overall great experience and nice work. I picked Houston Water Heaters based on comments from Angie's list and had no prior experience with them. I submitted a request for quote through their website form and Steve responded by the next morning with an estimate ($1083 inc tax & removal of old unit) based on my description and offered to complete within the next day if I needed. I called Steve and we discussed more details on his recommended unit and timing. The lead installer David contacted me the day before to confirm timing and again on the day of the job. David and Miguel were efficient and professional in doing the work and answering my questions - I watched most of the work. They laid down floor covering from the outside door to the attic drop ladder. I added a couple more items to the work scope based on what we found (sticky shut-off valve, 2 rusty water connectors, and drip pan total ~$150), no pressure at all on discussion of changes and prices seemed reasonable. They suggested and anchored my water lines more securely with no extra charge. Removed the old unit & cleaned up work space & path. As Steve suggested was about 2 hrs. No surprises on original price and they honored the $50 coupon for attic installation. We've been living with the unit (a Rheem) for a week and all fine. The unit is well-made with electronic ignition, brass drain valve, no noise, putting out plenty of heated water.
Description of Work: Scope of work was replacement of a 50 gal gas water heater in the attic of our 2 story house. The existing water heater was a 6 yr warranty unit installed in 2003. The existing unit was performing okay with the exception of sediment build-up from hard water which causes a popping sound when the water is heating up. Or primary concern was risk with the unit leaking since in the attic and some nearby neighbors have had issues with similarly aged houses & water heaters.

They arrived on time. Installed new Rheem 18' water heater. Made sure that we were up to code amd we were. Arranged for city inspector to come and inspect. Bid from competitor was over $1500 for the exact same water heater. The only difference was the competitor gave a 6 year labor warranty instead of 1 year. Both had 6 years for manufacturers parts warranty. Saved substantial money for the same product.

My daughter indicated to me that the hot water heater in her condo stopped working. I contacted Houston Water heater to obtain a quote to repair or replace the unit. My contact person was Joe. Joe wanted to know the age of the unit, where was it located, and what were its dimensions. Since the old unit was greater than 7 years old, Joe recommended that I replace it rather than repair it. I concurred with his recommendation. Once he confirmed with his supplier that a replacement unit was available, he gave me the total replacement cost. When the old unit was removed from its closet, visible signs of corrosion were evident. The technician indicated that the old unit was a clear fire hazzard, and posed significant risks. I am very grateful that Houston Water Heater directed to the right decision to replace the unit.
Description of Work: I hired Houston Water heaters to install a hot water heater in my daughter's condo. The work was done professionally and efficiently. The quoted price was the same as the final cost. There were no surprises, and my daughter and I are both well pleased with their work.

Was not an emergency so time wasn't an issue. Very knowledgable over the phone. Suggested a couple of brands. Perfect timing. In fact, gave me a call 30 min before they arrived. Very professional and nice. I watched the whole time, so I could learn about how it works and how to care for it. Very informative on how the water heater is made. Gave me instructions on how to care for it & what to do in different situations. Probably shouldn't say this, but they even helped me move a vanity to the garage. Have used a more expensive company in the past, but this company does the same quality work for a better price. Will definitely use this company again.

They were recommended by a friend of mine who used them. They were very good. They gave me a price over the phone. They arrived on time and did the work. They were very professional and cleaned up after themselves. They didn?t take very long to do the job; they were fast. They installed it and tested for leaks. They were the least expensive when I researched them. I was a little worried about that. But I talked to my friend who used them and he said that they were very good. They delivered the water heater that we talked about getting and they did not slip in a lesser model. They in fact delivered a better one than we had talked about. They said that they sent the wrong one at the distribution, but they didn?t take it back. I would definitely use them again and recommend them to others. They were conscientious, clean and their price was fair. They did a good job.

The crew was on-time, courteous, neat, and quick. Replacement of both water heaters in the attic took a total of two hours. One of the heaters was accessible by a folding stair, but for the other one they had to go up a ladder and through a trap door hole in the ceiling. This company was easy to work with and were good at answering all of questions before we agreed to use them.

Very easy to deal with. Professional from inital call where I was give a firm price over the phone to when old units were carried away. Company worked me in same day. They did miss their inital estimate of when they would be at my house, but they called multiple times to update me on their status and gave me plenty of time to meet them when they were on their way. Crew of 3 came and installed very quickly and efficiently. Work was done right, experience and confidence in what they were doing was very obvious. They wore shoe booties to keep carpet clean (much appreciated) and were very courteous. The installers seemed to enjoy what they were doing. I felt the price was very fair, especially after seeing the quality and manner of their work. Price was less than half of other quotes I received. Went with Houston Water Heaters thanks to experiences of Angie's List users. Thanks! Highly recommend this company.

They arrived on time, were extremely pleasant and neat! explained everything as they went along and finished in a reasonable amount of time. They cleaned up after themselves such that had I not been there while they were working, I wouldn't have noticed (well, except for the hot water heater!) They helped me with the paperwork for the Texas Appliance rebate. Follow up for the acid trap was excellent, and even the City Inspector said they did a great job!

We called based on Angie's List ratings, and spoke with the owner. He was very polite and gave us a realistic estimate based on the water heater we were looking for, a Bradford-White, which is a top brand. They did not have the model we wanted in stock, but were able to order it quickly and set up delivery/installation on a day when my wife would be home. The job went quickly and they cleaned up after themselves well, as if they had never been here. The price was fair and reasonable and we were pleased with the quality of work. My only complaint was that the pipes could have been flushed better after installation, as we had some rust and sediment clogging my faucet aerators. A more thorough flushing after installation could have been done by the crew, though the age of the house and pipes may have made this difficult to accomplish regardless. Overall, we are very pleased and will recommend them to our friends and neighbors.

I was looking to replace a water heater that was going bad. I got in on the Texas Trade up Rebate program. I got the Houston Water Heater name off of the rebate website http://www.texaspowerfulsmart.org. I verified that they had gotten good reviews from Angie's list. They were comparable in price to a company that I had previously used. Houston Water Heater recycles the old water heater. If the water heater was recycled I get a better rebate. I also prefer to recycle when possible. I made the appointment for Tuesday. They called to let me know that they were coming at 10 am. They called at 10 am to tell me that they would be there shortly. They were there at 10:15 am. The whole project took about 1 1/2 hours. They were very clean and efficient. I would definitely use them again.

I called several plumbers for quotes on installing a new water heater (50 gallon natural gas). Estimates from other plumbers ranged from $1,500 up to $2,100 claiming the location of the water heater in the attic was inconvenient and would cause extra hours of labor. Called Houston Water Heaters at 9pm on a Wednesday night and talked with Steve. He was able to give me a quote over the phone for ~$968. The appointment was for 3:30 pm on Saturday. That day, they called and asked permission to come by the house early at 2:00 pm as they finished the previous job early (which was great for me). Once there, they went straight to work. There were three persons in the crew, which made the work very effecient. They were done by ~4:30pm. I was waiting for them to request more money because of the difficult location of the water heater and the pains they went through to drain my old one (clogged with hard water deposits), but they did not. I heard no complaints and was impressed with their professionalism. They charged exactly what they quoted me over the phone. They cleaned up the work area and swept out the garage before leaving. Would highly recommend this group. Found them on the internet and read previous reviews on Angies List, which were positive in general (only two reviews at the time). I was very happy with this company and got a fair price.

Price they quoted was more reasonable than the one I had received from another plumbing company and they said they could do it on Sunday. Well the original Saturday came and we had to call him to confirm and he had forgotten that he had told us that he would call us back to confirm. So he said he would do it Sunday. Then Sunday comes and he calls to say he doesn't have the men to do it. So we then schedule it for 2 weeks later. When they do come, they show up in the later part of the day and the amount quoted did not included the replacing the inlet valve which I had specifically asked for. They were also missing the replacement water heater when they first showed up. When it did finally arrive, the job went smoothly and the guy helped my husband readjust the water heater since it looked too close to the wall. Overall, it was ok. They did not charge for the weekend call nor working in the attic (which the other company would).
