They were on time. A water heater is a water heater and I wasn’t real impressed with their installation. They told me that I probably needed a drip pan which I didn’t have on the other one. I said that’s fine and I have no problem paying for that. When they put the drip pan in there they had to move the new water heater from the original spot. They used the original vent work coming out of the water heater and it looks terrible. They just kind of bent the main tile and the shroud was hanging from the ceiling so that's pretty cheesy. They were professional but their installation was off.

The instillation went good but a different company provided the instillation rather than the company which I purchased the hot water heater from. Unfortunately, there was a screw-up on the order due to miscommunication/misunderstanding. I questioned about an add discount (from here on Angie's List) for a tankless water heater and I also got a quote for conventional water heaters. Although, the price was quite higher I wanted to go with the tankless heater. Somehow I did not make myself clear and I ended up getting the conventional heaters. I was traveling during the instillation so I was not aware until I got back. When I spoke to the same individual I placed the order with he seemed to question my intelligence - he specifically begged the question of how could I have miscommunicated my request when there was such a vast difference in price... Very unprofessional... What he didn't understand; I was not worried about the price. I won't be doing business there in the future.

This can only be summed up as a category five miscommunication. We put in the heater that was ordered. We are the same company that sold him the heaters and put them in. I don't know what he means by a different company. I know this is crazy but what are the odds of this happening. If we played any part in the mix-up I am truly sorry.

Even though the price was on the high side, we selected Houston Water Heaters because of a personal recommendation. After losing a water heater in just 7 years, we thought by paying a little more, we would get a more reliable product. The install and initial performance of the water heater was very good. In just less than a year's time, it stopped working. When we called for service, a company representative told us on the phone that we should have expected this problem. The Rep went on to say that they knew our $1,200 water heater had performance problems when they installed it. I had to argue with the Rep on the phone for awhile before they finally agreed to come out and repair the water heater under warranty, since it was less than a year old. Not a good experience.

Well this one has my head spinning. We installed this heater (3-15-11) three years ago. In March of 2012 (last year) we installed a new thermostat in this heater at no charge. We took prompt and professional care of this member and can think of no reason we should receive such a black eye out of the clear blue one year later. These are the kind of reviews we worry about and do our best not to incur. I wish I could have talked to this customer when he was first unhappy. I never like to leave a customer with any feelings but joy and happiness. Steve B. Williams

Called and asked for an estimate for a specific Rennai tankless water heater sold by this company. Steve returned my call and pitched a different more expensive brand. Was not interested in coming to my home to assess the project - just gave a figure. Was unable to confirm his current liability insurance carrier. We were very uncomfortable with his phone demeanor and will not use his company.

This is one of those that I don't think anything I could of said or done would have changed this lady's perceptions. I tried to steer her to a Heater that I know would have been best for her situation. The heater I was promoting would work on her existing gas line and therefore save her money. The Rinnai is a good heater but would require the installation of new gas piping. I am dissapointed that we get a D on our record for a job that we never did.

They called when they were on the way over; just like we agreed. Got to the house on time, and I showed them the route to take, etc. I was busy, but I could see them come and go. It took about two hours, and they had the old unit outside and the new unit installed. They had covered the floors with drop cloths, so there was no mess. Checked all the faucets to make sure they had not plugged them up with grit from the old tank. The lead guy had me come upstairs with him to light the fire so that I would understand it. In and out, right on schedule, no mess, no problems. I cannot think of way it could have gone better.
Description of Work: I found Houston Water Heaters on Angie's List, among a list of others that provide this service. I got prices from three of them, all were fairly similar. What I liked about HWH was that they specialize in water heaters. The workers said they do from 3 to 5 per day. They replaced a 14 year old 50-gallon unit with a new one. I paid a little extra to go from a six year warranty to an eight year warranty.

I started called first thing around 8:00 am to start checking prices for a new hot water heater. Houston Water Heaters was the best price of the 4 places I called. I called to schedule an appointment for a new water heater to be installed and was told they could do it that morning. After explaining the water heater information (pricing, warranty, unit size etc), I was told the plumber would be calling me to set a time for install. About 30 minutes later I received the call and he indicated he could be there in less than an hour if it worked for me. A team of two arrived on time, very friendly and professional. They explained what they were going to do to drain and remove the old water heater. I observed them as they left and entered the house and each time they were very careful to wipe there feet (much appreciated). Because the new water heater was a little taller than my old (went from 40 gal to 50 gal tank) they had to do some slight modifications, explained what was needed and assured me no extra cost. They were done with the hole job in about 2 hours. I saw no signs they were even in the house after they left as they were diligent to clean up after themselves. I would definitely recommend Houston Water Heaters. I appreciate that the installers took the time to answer all my questions, advised me on everything they were going to do and cleaned up and were courteous of my wood floors and stairs.

This was not, in several respects, a good experience but it turned out well due in large part to my (!) constant oversight, (2) purchasing of the appropriate parts, (3) loaning of tools and materials, and (4) working with the crew. We had scheduled this to begin at 8:30 am but they arrived at 10:05 AM. I had already drained the tank saving them at least 30 minutes but they still brought in a hose, etc. - they got an extra quart of water out of the tank but further delayed their start. While taking out the old water heater, they nearly destroyed one of the heat sensors for the fire alarm system located in the attic - fortunately, i intervened. When they got the old water heater out there was minor rust on it which I wanted covered so as not to dirty the carpet - they askded for two large plastic trash bags to wrap the botton of the water heater and needed duct tape for attaching it (they had neither). The water valve had a minor leak and I wanted it replaced - they had no 1" valve but I had one from another project. They needed metal flashing (+ $40) due to the water heater being located next to the rafters - they had none although I had sent pictures showing the existing installation. (The job ws uninspect prior to the installation.) They had to go to an area plumbing supply for this item. When they put in the flashing, they had to borrow my tin snips for sizing it - they had none. When putting in the water heater, they were going to use the existing pan - they did not have the necessary 30" x 30" pan. (The SOLE reason for replacing the water heater at this time was that the existing catch pan was leaking due to a roof flashing leak - the water heater worked well and had no issues even thoughh it was 16 years old. It was well maintained.) I called their office and was told that a new one was $189 if they had to bring one to my home located near 59 and Kirby Drive. It cost $26 at the plumbing supply from which I purchased it. This wasted about 45 minutes. They were unable to insulate the hot and cold water lines, which I consider a necessity, due to not having insulating materials for 1" piping. When I agreed to the purchase, I understood that this was a complete installation which cost $1,845 - that price only covered the water heater. The end product was acceptable although the water lines were not insulated prior to their departure. The company's crew was polite and seemed to care about doing a good job but they needed training on what tools, materials and components are required on a typical 1st class job. They need oversight. For instance, my wife had to ask them to put on booties, which they had, to keep their less than clean shoes off of the oriental rugs and carpeting. I indicated that I would use this company again but I would have to consider the circomstances and my time.

We go to work at 8am. and are based in Sugar Land. Member lives appx. 1.5 hours from our location. We had to first pick up the new water heater from our supplier before heading north. Member had a 75 gallon tank water heater. This is a very large and very heavy water heater, that is the reason the boys drained every ounce of water out of it they could. While Member did tell me it was 'upstairs', he left out the fact that it was on the third floor. He also did not mention needing/wanting a new drain pan. We do have pans on the truck but they are for normal 40 and 50 gallon heaters not the much larger 75 gal. I noticed he only gave us a B on pricing. This job by anyone else would have sold for over $3000.00 To make a long story short I am surprised an disappointed that Member was less than happy.

First of all, let me say that it is such a pleasure doing business with a company whose owner and his employees are honest, hard working people who have managed to keep a personal touch and be concerned about pleasing their customers! In today's society that's a real PLUS for me! A little background: I have been dealing with NO HOT WATER HEATER SINCE 10/30/2012 because of a Plumber my home warranty company sent out. I did not want to use these people because of excessive things they said had to be done, in addition to the installation of the water heater and I did not want the water heater they were to install. (the warranty company would not send out anyone else)! Finally, after going back and forth AND BACK AND FORTH, I said "FORGET IT" and took over myself! After many, many calls to plumbers,(a lot), quotes on what they thought needed to be done and talking to the city (several times) about requirements to come up to the city code I went to my Angie's List and found a company (HOUSTON WATER HEATERS) that I had seen in the Yellow Pages, checked them out with BBB, and called them (remember I had been burned-so very cautious)! 11/07/2012- I spoke with Joe at HOUSTON WATER HEATERS. He was very nice and answered all of my questions and gave me a quote. 11/09/2012 - I spoke with Steve to clarify some issues about size of new heaters, height, diamenter, etc. (is going in the attic and not alot of room). 11/13/2012 - I spoke with both Joe and Steve and got more of a firm price due to things to be done to bring home up to city code before installation of heater. Steve assured me that they would do exactly what they say they will do and when they arrive they will take a look and let me know if there is anything else that has to be done that is not included in the quote, if so, they will let me know and I can say, "yes" or "no" to the installation-no cost to me if I say "no". Very Knowledgable........ Nice guy!! I made an appointment for the next day, 11/14/2012. Steve said that someone will call me later this evening to set the time I want someone to come out. David called and I scheduled time for 12:30 P.M. he said he will call me tomorrow at 12:00 Noon before they head to my home. David called just before noon and he and Ray showed up promptly at 12:30 P.M. He inspected the attic and checked out things to be done (as per my quote) and said there was only one thing that he would recommend and that was to switch out a couple of old flex connectors which would be about $40. I told him to do the job. They removed the old heater and installed the new one and brought the house up to city code. Drop cloths were used for the job. David and Ray were both very courteous, friendly, and knew what they were doing and David explained, in detailed, everything that was done to complete the job. I highly recommend this company for their professional attitude, the quality of their work, their dependability.AND they even give you a coupon for some money back and can't we all use that!! YOU DON'T HAVE TO LOOK AND LOOK ....THIS IS THE ONE!!
Description of Work: HOUSTON WATER HEATERS INSTALLED A NEW 50 GALLON RHEEM GAS HOT WATER HEATER IN MY ATTIC AND REMOVED THE OLD ONE. BEFORE THEY COULD INSTALL HEATER THEY HAD TO BRING MY HOUSE UP TO THE CITY CODE, WHICH INCLUDED INSTALLING A HEAT SHIELD, NEW FLEX CONNECTORS, GAS VALVE AND FLEX LINE, A NEW DRIP PAN AND OBTAIN A PERMIT FROM THE CITY.

The installation proceeded without problems. The crew of three were friendly, courteous and professional. They clearly knew what they were doing. The first thing they did was lay down a drop cloth to protect my floors. And, they carried the old water heater from the attic outside to their truck in a closed bag. I was very impressed by this extra care. Juan also spent the time to educate us on the preventative maintenance that would allow our new water heater to function correctly for many years. This I really appreciated.
Description of Work: I called for an estimate for a 50 gal tank water heater to be installed in my attic. Steve Williams gave me all the information I needed to decide which water heater would be best for us. We chose to go with a more expensive model with a longer warrenty. He gave me an estimate on this heater which included installation in my attic. We did discuss that if extra work needed to be done, or parts needed to be used to bring the work up to "codes" this expense would be extra. This determination would be made prior to start of the job. Mr. Williams was able to arrange to have his crew come out the next day to install the new heater. I received a call that night from Juan confirming that they would be out the next day between 9AM and 9:30AM. They arrived the next day at 9:10AM. The job was completed by 11AM. Prior to starting the work Juan examined the old heater and its connections. He suggested that two new "water flex connectors" be installed at a cost of $40. I was a bit surprised this was not included in the original installation price. Juan's explanation was that many homeowners do not want to pay for new connectors therefore it is listed as an extra expense. I told him to go ahead and install the new connectors. The job was completed by 11AM.

I spoke with Steve on Sunday to discuss replacing our gas hot water heater, and we scheduled an appointment for his employees to do the installation on Monday. They called prior to arriving. Once they arrived, they assessed the situation and informed me that a few changes were needing to be made in order for the installation to be done properly. Juan took the time to discuss in length exactly what would need to be done and why, which I greatly appreciated. My husband and I agreed with their decision and they replaced the old hot water heater with a new one. Once completed, however, my husband noticed that a few of the older pieces were left in the attic. I called Steve, and he immediately contacted Juan. Juan called, apologized for the oversight, and came back Tuesday to remove the pieces from the attic. They could not have been any nicer to work with and did a great job. I would not hesitate calling them in the future. Thanks guys!

Called on Wednesday 6/20 and they came out Thursday 6/21. They said 9 am, but they are in Sugarland and I am in Spring, so I figured they wouldn't be here before 9:30. They arrived approximately 9:45 and left at approximately 11:30. I think that this is phenominal. When I first called, Steve Williams asked me what kind of input pipe was currently used, white or tan? I checked and from my vantage point the pipe looked white. Steve told me in that case, they could not provide warranty. BUT when the workmen got here, they said that the pipe WAS TAN, not white, so I will receive the full 6 year workmanship warranty! They seemed to really know what they were doing. They cleaned up after themselves very well. I was impressed. I paid $923, but should receive a rebate check for $25 off of that. Can't beat their pricing!! I would definitely hire them again.

Houston Hot Water Heaters replaced hot water heater after we attempted multiple times to have it fixed by home warranty contractor. I called Houston Hot Water Heaters around 2 PM, and they came out to replace the unit that same day. However, they did not bring out the hot water heater I requested. I had to wait until the next day for them to bring what was ordered and have hot water again. The installers, business manager and owner remained professional and respectful throughout the whole process. I have a few tips for those businesses and homeowners looking to replace their hot water heater: 1) Check out Consumer Reports for their take on hot water heaters (or any appliance you need replaced); 2) Make sure you have a good idea about the building codes that must be met before the company comes to replace your hot water heater (It will save you time and surprise.); 3) Make sure that the unit that is brought to your house is the unit you ordered. If you take more time up front to study what you want and what you need completed, then you will not be hit by any unexpected costs or additional time off work. I also suggest that you inspect everything being installed before it is installed. I would recommend this company for the replacement of a hot water heater next to an exterior wall.

My old 40 gallon water heater was 13 years old and full of scale. The unit would make loud knocking sounds when I used hot water. It was so bad that when I opened the drain valve to flush the scale out it only released a few drops. Based on reviews from Angie's List I chose to use Houston Water Heaters to replace my unit before it started to leak and cost much more in water damage. I spoke with the sales rep on Friday 5/4/2012 and he recommended a Rheem water heater. I inquired about the other brands and discussed the pros and cons of each with him. I inquired about the possibility to install a larger water heater and he gave me the dimensions of a 50 gallon tank to confirm it would fit in my attic. I scheduled the installation for Monday 5/7/2012 at 4:30 pm. The price he quoted me was the price it cost prior to getting a credit for the Angie's List coupon. The day of the scheduled installation, I received a call from the installer that morning confirming the installation time. Around 4:15 pm I received another call from the installer telling me that the job he is finishing up has taken longer than they estimated and he would be 60 to 90 minutes late for my 4:30 appointment. He called again around 5:45 pm to advise he was finished with the other job and on his way, but in heavy traffic. They finally showed up around 6:30 pm (2 hours past the original appointment). I give them a C for punctuality, but I'd give them an A if there were a "Communication" category. And, I was happy they still came out to do the work instead of saying "It's past 5 o'clock and we're off the clock. You'll have to reschedule." So, again, I give them an A. Overall the installation took a little over an hour. The two installers were professional, courteous and conscious to not make a mess. They laid down drop cloths to keep my carpet clean and picked up any stray debris. I would use them again and recommend them to friends.

Sorry we were late and thanks for your understanding and forebearance. Sometimes the job we are on prior to yours can go long due to unforseeable complications. We strive very hard to keep our appointment times, and we like it less than you do when we cant. So thanks again and thanks for the kind review. Steve Williams (Owner)

Came out and replaced the water heater the next morning after I called. Crew was about 45 minutes late, but were fast in the install and very considerate of being tidy and protecting the house as they did their work. Answered all my questions. Very pleased with the work and would recommend them to anyone.

Overall a positive experience. My old water heater in the attic conked off and needed to be replaced. Did some shopping around and found that water heater prices had gone up considerably since the last time I looked (ouch!). The owner walked me through my options and his recommendation with his logic (which all panned out after further research). The men who came over to my home were punctual, professional and very careful with keeping our home as clean as possible. Water heater got installed, tested and everything went smoothly. They even helped me understand how to maintain my other water heater. I expect this second old heater to die one day (hopefully not too soon), but I already have these guys as the first place to call when I start asking for bids again.

From start to finish Houston Water Heaters was a positive experience. There were no hitches and the installation was timely and well done. The uniformed crew showed up with exactly the water heater that I ordered and there were no on the spot little add on's for items that really run up the bill. The important thing is that they were successfully price competitive, and I did a lot of shoping and information gathering before I purchased from Houston Water Heaters. Do use Houston Water Heaters to have a new water heater installed. Colonel Don O.
Description of Work: Houston Water Heaters was very price competitive and was able to give me a firm estimate over the phone based on their extensive experience. The owner was easy to work with and gave me great information about water heaters. The Installers were very professional. They laid down a covering over my carpet before they started and when they were done, they left no mess. They were on-time, on estimate, and the installation was done by a licensed plumber and helper who really knew what they were doing. I can recommend Houston Water Heaters without reservation.
