Thursday night our power went out. Turns out tat our main breaker and one A/C breaker had tripped. I heard a whooshing sound for about 5 minutes from one of the A/C units.  After resetting the breakers, the unit appeared to run, but did not cool the house.  Friday morning I called Joe upon recommendation from my son who had used him several months ago. Joe came out in about 45 minutes and began investigating.  Looked kind of like the compressor had gone out, but not sure.  He kept looking until he found a hole in the high-pressure line where a electric supply line had rubbed against it until the insulation was gone, finally shorting out with an arc.  That had caused the hole and tripped the breakers.

He repaired the line, rerouted the wires, cleaned the coils which were fairly dirty, drew a vacuum on the system, and recharged the freon.  He also replaced a drier unit in the line which was quite rusty. He then verified functioning of the system.  Total time, just under 3 hours.  Someone less careful or more in a hurry would probably have replaced the compressor too, but it did not need a new compressor.  Joe was very willing to talk and explain what was going on.
