The sprayer on our kitchen sink was broken and we needed it to be replaced. We realized that the best option would be to get a new kitchen faucet with a sprayer. We wanted a basic model since we plan to remodel in the next few years. The technician reviewed all our options, which included new hoses since the old ones were not compatible with the new faucet. I received a call that included the plumber's name and estimated time of arrival when he was on his way. The work was not rushed and the plumber was professional and courteous. He had a fully-stocked van which had all the parts needed to complete the job. We would definitely recommend Abacus Plumbing and plan to use them for any future plumbing issues.
Description of Work: Replaced kitchen faucet, broken sprayer, and outdated hoses.

Young man finally showed up at the new location. He looked at the location in the garage and called his home office for information on an installation estimate. The estimate, which included getting the 'required permits' exceeded $2000.00 I thanked him for the estimate and told him 'No thanks.' I then contacted the city of Humble to ask about water softener permitting. The woman I spoke with said my address was not in the city of Humble, that my home fell in the greater Harris County area. So I went to the Harris County permitting office and was told there were no permits needed for a whole house filter nor for a water softener. So when the plumber starts with the song and dance routine about permits and the like, check for yourself. You might just save a lot of money.
Description of Work: Requested an estimate to install a whole house water filter and a water softener into a new home pre-plumbed for a water softener installation.

Thank you for your feedback. It is very important that we have this type of feedback from people who have chosen not to use our services. I personally remember our Technician calling in about your call. I asked the tech where you were located and your address that is assigned by the postal service says you are in Humble Texas. I used that information and YES the city of Humble does require a permit for this type of work. I am sorry that I made this mistake. BUT if we did not have to pay for a permit we would not charge you for a permit. Now, as to the price quoted. I understand from the Technician that you were looking to have the work done for around $800. We do not have an $800 system. Our system is described as one of the Best in the industry and comes with one of best warranties and it is backed up by Abacus 24/7 365. Our price also includes a standard hook up including double check valve and drain system. Yes it is more expensive and Yes I looked at the invoice the tech brought back to the office. So based on that documentation, the whole job was quoted to you for $1600 not the "$2000" you stated. We know that we will never be everyone's plumbing company but we promise to always do the right thing by giving our customers the best price for the best job. Thank you again, Abacus Plumbing Manager

They told us that we needed a whole unit when they came to check the air conditioning the last time. They had installed the blower upstairs in the attic and they put it in backwards. Nothing was working and so they sent somebody out to do some testing. They told us that we needed a new unit. The other company came out and said that we didn’t need a new unit. They found that the blower was put in incorrectly. They checked the air conditioning and said that everything was okay. Their professionalism was okay initially but it slowly deteriorated.
Description of Work: We had a contract with Abacus Plumbing & Air Conditioning to check our air conditioning and furnace twice a year.

[Member name removed], We are sorry to hear about your bad experience with Abacus. Our technicians are trained by American Standard and Lennox to assure high quality trouble shooting, repairs and installation by our employees on the products we sell. /if we indeed did install the blower incorrectly, Abacus would have been happy to correct the issue under warranty. We strive for 100% customer service at all times. Regards, Laurie Johnson General Manager

My husband had Abacus out in March 2013 and signed us up for their annual plumbing inspection. Not wanting to let that money go to waste I had them come out mid February. Our house was built in 2006 and our hot water tank failed inspection, which I believed given our hard water everything was corroded. The estimate for replacing the tank and a vent that he said was possibly leaking emissions was around $2000.00 ($1600 and $400 respectively), they were also going to relocate the tank. We had a second plumber inspect and they said the spot it was in was within code though could be moved if preferred, the vent was fine but the tank did need to be replaced. I was disappointed in Abacus because they weren't more upfront, the public generally doesn't know what's going on with plumbing, it would have been nice to know why I was potentially going to pay $2000 - were they going to get permits? They didn't mention this. Will the replacement be a top of the line or mid grade? I'm not sure. Instead of giving just one price, break it down for us. When I called the office to initially make the tank replacement appointment the lady asked how much the estimate was for, this had me a little worried - why do they charge different prices for replacing a 40gallon tank. But then I figured it's because all they give is one price they don't break things down...staying informed means knowing where your money is going. But part of staying informed means asking questions on part of the consumer. I marked that I would use them again, but really it's if needed. They did do their job and probably the best that the guy knew how. Will we have them back in 2015 to do an annual plumbing check, I'm not sure. But this visit did teach me to ask more questions.

They were genuine, real. You could tell that they were not put on. The sub contractors they used because they didn't special in things were just professional people. Nice people, I liked that they were real. Any question you had, they would talk to you. Every employee subcontracted by them was just top notched. They sent two teams. One man that did the concrete work was subcontracted I thought they had chosen wisely as well as the man who dug the ditch. I was happy with the job and I'm still happy with the job.
Description of Work: We live in an old neighborhood. Mine was built in the 1950's and has a concrete foundation. We had a water leak. They bfought a concrete saw and took out a piece about a foot wide in the patio in the back and had to tunnel in to repair that pipe. Then they had to dig a ditch waist deep to the access line. My husband had a clean out outlet put in two places in the laundry and kitchen sink. We had another put at the end of the line where the sewer is. They did all that work for that.

JUSTIN FROM ABACUS CAMETO OUR HOUSE AND RAN A CAMERA THROUGH OUR CLEAN-OUT AND DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM 18 FT UNDER THE HOUSE. TREE ROOTS HAD GROWN INTO THE SEWER LINE FROM A BREAK CAUSED BY A SHIFTING FOUNDATION AND BLOCKED THE DRAINAGE. HE SENT OUT A CREW THE NEXT DAY TO DIG UNDER THE HOUSE IN ORDER TO ACCESS THE SEWER LINE, A MAJOR FEAT. HE WAS VERY CONSCIENTIOUS ABOT TELLING US THAT THERE WOULD BE AN ADDITIONAL CHARGE IF HE HAD TO BREAK OUT ANY CONCRETE ENCASING THE PIPE, WHICH THERE WAS. OVERALL HE DID A VEY GOOD AND PROFESSIONAL JOB. DEFINITELY A MASTER PLUMBER.

Our experience with Abacus has been multi-layered, so to speak. We first hired them in 2011 to put new pipes in our house. We spent the big bucks to get good new pipes. They took a few days, obviously, and while they were at it, we asked the head guy on the job if he would fix a toilet that we had that was wobbling. So we added that onto our bill as well. Everything seemed to go well. The pipes were great and the toilet didn't wobble, and we really liked the new fixture he installed in our kitchen sink. Fast forward a year or so... The toilet that they fixed...well now it's leaking. So we call Abacus and they have no record of it being repaired during the repiping of our house. We look for receipt, and of course can't find it. So we pay them to fix the toilet again AND pay someone else to fix the floor from the damage that was done from the leak. Weeks later of course, we find the receipt. Mostly out of frustration we decided not to try to get our money back. Fast forward another 6 months or so. We have water coming out an exterior overhang from the second story of our house. It's clearly coming from our bathroom. We call Abacus. They come out and tell us that we need the plumbing completely redone in our shower...that he can't actually find the leak, but he knows it's down there somewhere and once he tears up our shower he'll find the leak. Hmmmm...I don't think so. I call a different plumbing company. Their guy comes out, takes a look, says the seal around our shower door is leaky and suggests a simple, less-than-fifty-buck solution. Saves us a few hundred bucks from paying Abacus. And what do you know...it works...no more water leaking our house. Fast forward to today.... I get home and I can hear water running...not sure where from, but I can hear it in the bathroom...and can hear it when I put my ear to the wall. I shut off the water from the street and call the OTHER plumbing company...the one that didn't want to rip up my shower for no reason. They come out cut a little hole in my wall find the leak. One of the guys says to me, "These are really good pipes, and new. I've never seen these have problems before." (Which is why we paid all that money for them.) He looks a little more... OH, it seems that when they were installed, there was a cut from the tool they use to cut those pipes that was started but not finished....like they started to cut the pipe, decided it wasn't going to be long enough, and cut the pipe further up...leaving a weak spot that eventually...after being exposed to water pressure for 3 years...started to spurt. So, yes, accidents happen. But I paid a lot of money for those pipes. So the guy from THE OTHER plumbing company says "You've gotta have Abacus do this because this is still under warranty." He says that he could do it in like 15 minutes, but it would cost us $500. As much as I REALLY don't want to call Abacus back, I do. Get them on the phone while other plumber is there. They initially say that I've got to wait two days before they can come out. I explain that I have a leak...and that I have to keep the water to the entire house turned off...and that there's another plumber here. Another plumber there...oh well then we can send someone out tonight. So Abacus guy shows up. Remember the other guy says that he can get it done in about 15 minutes. I can see the work that needs to be done and it looks like a 15 minute job (but I know nothing about plumbing...). It takes Abacus guy 2 hours to fix it. Now maybe it was a two hour job to begin with. Obviously Abacus didn't mean to notch a weak spot in the pipe when they installed. And maybe it was an honest mistake that they couldn't find the paperwork showing that the toilet had been reseated when it started to leak months later. Maybe. But that's a lot of maybes. Sorry Abacus. I'll stick with the other guys...who, if I thought it was kosher to put there name in this review, I would.

He replaced my toilet and worked for an hour to fix my sink. His price was right on with the estimate and everything was running when he left. I was happy that there was someone to answer when I called late at night, and I was pleased that they came out on a Sunday. I'm a member of their club, and they didn't charge me extra to come out on a Sunday. They're all very professional.

watch out for these companies they have a low price to get in but once in the house but it escalates. I had a frozen hot water hose on my washing machine i thought the 49.00 covered to loosen the hose no that was just the beginning by time he undid the hose put on new hose i had the charge was 134.00. they will give you all sorts of prices and join the club maintenance pack for additional costs. They are professional and know what they are doing but don't think if you have a little hose to change 49.00 will cover it. There costs are very very high I'm glad i didn't have a major problem I would have thrown them out of the house. I almost threw them out of the house with the price they charged me for changing a hose !

We make it very clear to our customers when they book that we have a $49.95 service and evaluation fee. This fee covers the technicians time to drive to the job and perform an evaluation of the issue and give the customer options to repair or replace. This fee does not cover any work. Logic says that all companies have these costs and must charge for their time, some choose to bury it in their price we choose to be upfront about it. We then give the customer a flat rate price to perform the work at which point the customer can choose to accept or decline our proposal. We are very upfront about our pricing. I am sorry that this member did not like our pricing. We appreciate the feedback.

Bill Glass is an expert plumber who took the time to make sure the work was done right. He is truly awesome and backed by an excellent manager, Jose Parra. I'm only giving Abacus 4 stars because of a bit of disorganization between the different departments. For instance, it would have been good practice to discuss the permitting/inspection process for installing our new hot water heater with us BEFORE the installation; and not having us learn about it when the person in charge of calling the city contacted us to set up the inspection. I am very glad to have found Abacus, and will not hesitate to call you for my future plumbing needs.
Description of Work: We originally called Abacus to come and inspect our hot water heater. We were fortunate first to have Plumbing Manager Jose Parra called in to discuss how to handle our specific brand of heater; and then to have him assign Master Plumber Bill Glass to work with us. Bill went above and beyond to maker sure that all of our plumbing problems were addressed, including the breakdown of the hot water heater due to it having been installed improperly when the house was built.

It started with a toilet that wouldn't flush...and since I had found out from their previous work, that my sewer line was broken in several places, (and did finally clog and back up requiring cleaning and dehumidifying and removal of wood trim at floor level - done by another company they suggested) - I knew not to press my luck and wait & see. They came that afternoon. The toilet was replaced.....and the next day they snaked a camera through the pipe and it was really clear that tree roots had created a dam. So, in the course of one day, they cut the grass and laid it aside, dug, weaved pvc pipe around and away from tree roots, added a 'clean out', replaced the dirt and grass and it was not easy to see where they had worked!! My home was built in 1972 - if your home is near that age and you have trees - be forewarned, but rest easy if you allow Abacus to take care of you!!

Old gas furnace stopped working on 1/5. Abacus was called and service rep showed up one hour later and assessed that unit had to be replaced. 2 Service techs arrived the next day at 9AM to install the new unit. Installation was completed within 4 hours with no issues and they verified that unit was working properly before leaving. Old unit was hauled off and all debris cleaned up. This was an emergency situation due to a dangerous and potentially deadly coldsnap and overall response time was phenomenally fast.

Abacus investigated some noise and sewer smell coming from the tub in our master bath. We don't use the tub at all. It took the Abacus guy about a second to figure out that our trap had dried out, then another few minutes to check and prove that, in fact, the dry trap was the problem. Who knew! Problem solved. And - get this - Abacus did not charge for the visit. Wow. This is our second dealing with Abacus and both visits were thoroughly professional and managed with integrity.

I've used them for years. They're very good. They're very professional. They call me on time and show up. They came and explained their stuff. First, they call me before getting there. The guy was very clean. He put different shoes on inside and another when he went outside. He inspected the thing. It was not totally in the scope of what he was supposed to do. I asked them if they could look into it. He said that we can do this and that as well as fixed it. He did what he had to do and got done. It was more than just coming in and telling me he cannot do this because it wasn't in the scope of his job. He went above and beyond what he can do. It didn't take very long. He explained what I can do and what I cannot do when it's not working.

last experience dealt with quote for hot water heater (attic) and inspection of ac/heating. Provided a thorough inspection of both, however, suggested that there was a need for a new water heater. Second opinion showed that was not the case. Problems were solved wtih minor repair to existing unit. They also noted structural/code issues with roof vent from the heater, which the rep said would require extensive work on the roof. Again, second opinion showed very minor fix to the issue. Previously they performed plumbing work as part of a kitchen remodel and work was excellent.

I ask them for detailed information of the part and the service charges. The plumber told me that the part costs $360 + service charges will be around $150+ $50 for showing up I asked for the part name they couldn't provide me the part name. I believed the plumber, but in reality part should not cost more than $70. I might pay $150 for the part which cost $70. But I wasn't ready to pay almost $300 extra on the part. I was really disappointed with the misleading information provided by the technician and the way of talking of the management.
