Abacus Plumbing, Air Conditioning and Electrical

I was pleased that ABACUS responded so quickly to my negative review posted 11/17/14. The media filter converter kit was installed on 12/1/14 at no charge along with a new one-year filter ($93 BAM price). I'm told that this should resolve my media filter replacement issue. I am happy once again and plan to renew my BAM membership in 2015. I would have upgraded my rating to an "A," but lowered it to a "B" for now because I feel my problem should have been addressed earlier, during my Spring 2014 inspection. If all goes well during my 2015 inspections, I will raise my rating to "A." ____________ 11/17/14 - Overall Rating: D See my previous review of Abacus dated 04/22/14. As instructed, when I scheduled my Fall 2014 BAM furnace inspection, I told Jennifer at Abacus that I would need to have my media filter (in the attic) changed out. She assured me that the technician would have the proper filter on his truck. The first and second filters the technician tried to install were the wrong size/type and would not fit. When questioned why he did not have the correct filter since I had specifically requested it, he said that they do not carry that type on their trucks because they take up too much space. (Note: My furnace/air conditioning system was installed by Abacus in Spring 2013, and they have all my records including information on what type filter my unit requires.) This makes me wonder if I had an older, unpopular model furnace installed. If Abacus serviced this particular model on a regular basis would they not carry the filters in their trucks??? The technician removed my dirty filter and shook it out by hitting it up against the bricks of my house and then reinstalled it, saying that it would probably last me until my Spring 2015 air conditioning inspection. He said that to insure that I have the correct filter for change out during future inspections, I should purchase them myself at Home Depot or Lowes. Why was I not told this before??? This inspection lasted approximately 35-40 minutes with half of this time wasted on the filter issue. The remainder of time was spent in the attic; no room air vents were checked. My first furnace inspection in Fall 2013 lasted at least two hours, with the technician checking the air flow and temperature at each air vent throughout the house. He even took the time to vacuum out my return air duct which contained a lot of dust and sheetrock debris from original construction of the house. Maybe I was spoiled by this first inspection and have expected the same level of service in subsequent inspections. Upon leaving, the technician did not give me an inspection checklist receipt which I have always received in the past. I had to ask for one. He then went out to his truck and filled one out. I suppose he had all the correct readings in memory since he carried no paper or clipboard with him while in the house??? Overall this was not a very satisfactory experience.

We are very satisfied with the service. We have used Abacus in the past as well and they are just wonderful to work with, they do excellent work and I highly recommend them, they are very nice and everyone they have working for them are very well trained and professional.

The tech was knowledgeable, professional and nice. He explained the process step by step. Highly recommend.

I would definitely use Abacus again! They answered the phone at 5:30 a.m., and I had an appointment for that morning between 9:00-11:00. The plumber who showed up was professional, wore booties, and did a great job. He had one toilet on his touch, and Abacus was able to deliver the second one while he installed the first one. Overall, it went very well.

I called for the 123 drain deal. Had a clogged kitchen drain for a couple of months and had tried everything to unclog it. Abacus scheduled a time, called 30 minutes prior to arrival, arrived on time, was courteous, professional, and did everything they said they would do. The technician was thorough, well informed, and didn't leave until the job was done. He explained everything to me, ran the camera down the drain and showed me what and where the problem was. It was a tough job and took a very long time to resolve, but it was done with a smile. I would recommend Abacus to anyone. When time came to pay the bill it was $123 just as they advertise, and not a penny more. Great job, great people.

Great service! A little expensive but worth it for the quality of service.

I called five companies for a cleanout price. This was the least expensive that could come the following day. The price was to be $123 total. I had a morning surgery and left the woman that works with me to receive and pay the bill. I returned from surgery and the invoice left that was charged was $363.95 for under 30 minutes- . The service is meant to get people to agree to use them, then they just charge you for more than what a the labor for putting in a replacement toilet would cost. The ticket says kitchen sink cleaner 314.00 and 49.95 service. I called and the man said says you were to pay 123, so I will refund the money. We will wait to see if the money comes back. I knew the man that started and sold the business- Todd Iacco, I hope that he would be upset about the charging methods today.

Installation of new system was done well.

I called Abacus to get a quote on a whole house water filtration system. They sent Jason out the same day! They were very easy and convenient to book an appointment with. They worked with my schedule, and they called me to let me know they were on the way. Jason came to my home, he was very friendly and professional. He gave me a written estimate with various options and pricing for me to select from. I was so surprised that they were able to install the filtration system the same day! I LOVE the system, our water is so much cleaner. Thank you Abacus, I will be calling on you again!

Our toilet was running so I called Abacus. I was quoted a time of 8 to 10 a.m. Manuel showed up in the given time frame. He was very polite and courteous. He explained the reason why the toilet was running and what he could do to fix it. After the work was done, he cleaned up the area. He also checked the rest of the toilets and faucets to make sure that everything as they should. I will definitely call Abacus to do more work at my house. Customer service was also very polite and professional.

Received a call when the technician was on their way and they arrived promptly. Terry, the technician was very professional, efficient and offered me options which I appreciated. This was my first time having this company service my unit.

I had much higher hopes for Abacus then they did. They are efficient, but they sell a contract that is supposed to give you better service, and priority if something is wrong. What they don't tell you, that when they come out depends on scheduling. I had emergency plumbing, and couldn't count on them, which I thought I could because of the special contract, and so I had to go to somebody else. Lesson be learned, you need to read the contract closer, or you need to understand that the priority list is not for an emergency. The people who came were very clean, friendly, on time, and they called, but I wouldn't rate them at the top of the list. We had a problem with the back up on the air conditioner, and it flooded, so I needed somebody pretty quickly. I don't think they were the least expensive, but they were very quality, so I bought the contract. I bought the contract for air conditioning, and plumbing. It covers all of the AC, plumbing and heating. The price was fair, but I work in a company where we are not the cheapest, so I value proposition for quality and redemption of quality. I saw the quality of Abacus was good enough for the contract. When they first come out they say it is $100 just to look at it, and that was part of the company. I think they are a good company, but I feel they are expensive, and they oversell the service for what I got. They were overpriced for what they promised.

They did a real good job. I am real happy with them. They did what they said they would do, in a timely manner and we haven't had any problems since.

The service worked out great. They charge $99 for heating and AC inspections. They are on time, their employees are very courteous, and knowledgeable. I have used them for 3 years now, and I have already renewed with them.

We used them once, and the results were good. It was a good experience. They responded quickly, they did a good job, and they didn't take a long time doing it. They were courteous.

The experience was good. I would recommend them because they did very good work. They worked here on a Friday and they came back out on a Saturday and they finished it. I was without hot water maybe for a day. I had one little minor complaint; I don’t know if it’s their fault or the city’s fault. In order to change out the water heater I need to have a permit. To get to the water heater in my house, I need to go into the closet. In front of the closet there is a whole bunch of shelving that had towels. So to get to the water heater I had to remove all that shelving and take down the towels. It’s a huge amount of work to get to it. They pulled the permit and they did the work. I put all the shelving back. Then they contacted me and told me that I needed to get the building inspector out there to inspect their work. The building inspector didn’t respond. I told them that I am not taking all the stuff apart. The guy can look from the outside if he wants to see if it is correct but I am not taking it all apart. That’s my only complaint. In terms of price, they are a little expensive. The quality is good. They were on time and they were very professional. I would not use them for a leaky faucet because I can do it myself. If it was some type of major repair like a water heater or something like that then I would definitely use them.

They did really well for us. The service was excellent, they were thorough, and they were on time, which was good. We haven't had any issues since.

We were very happy with them, and we have recommended them to a lot of our friends. It was Good Friday, and they stayed until 8 at night, until they completed the job. We had no running water in our house, and I had a house full of guests, and they stayed until the job was completed. They came out and got us our unit.We had another company come out, and their price beat the other company, and they were much more knowledgeable.

They did a good service. They are professional. They were the only place I called.

We were real happy with the water heater they did for us. We had our share of issues with the air conditioner installer we did after. They've been real real responsive through trying to fix everything but they've had a lot of staff changes. So extremely happy with the water heater not so with the air conditioner. It was pricey.

It was great to about July and then we had a power outage and it went stupid and it has honstly never been a hundred percent right since. It had a warranty. The problem is that the guy that sold it to us who was really sharp left and then the guy that replaced him left and then we were left with an idiot named Barrry, who I almost threw out of my house. He was so rude and nasty and I was actually contemplating suing them because Barry, his answer was always, "it's working fine," I was about to call my lawyer and sue him and the guy that sold it to us called me to apologize and said they'd hired him back to replace Barry the idiot. He came out and had it working really good in about 20 minutes, Barry had been to my house 8 times. Then we had another power outage this year and it went stupid again and then that guy who took care of me is gone again. They sent a guy out and it was working better but it hasn't worked as well as it did when we had it first installed. So not thrilled with the air conditioning people, they've always been responsive, they've always come out, they've sometimes sent us some total idiots who couldn't do anything but were downright rude and nasty about their inability to do something and implied that we were crazy for saying it didn't work and then they sent somebody smart out. They were always here when they said they'd be.

They charged my son a lot of money. I could have done better if I had used the people that I used before. They decided that they could not warranty anything. It was a cheap air conditioner. It is still running but, I did not like their attitude.

They show up when they say they are going to show up, the work is done professionally, and it’s done in a reasonable amount of time.

We were satisfied with his price and the quality of the work because it is still fixed. They came out and gave a quote on what they expected the job to cost. I told them that it was expensive. When we got through, he called me back and said that he got the clog fixed easier and quicker than he thought and gave me the charge which was much less. He actually charged less. My impression was they were honest. They are going to charge you for their work, but at least the guy I have dealt with did not seem like he was going to charge dishonestly or unfairly. The best ones are expensive, but they just charge me honestly, and I am fine with that. They were on time.

They were just awesome. The original people that demo our house had broken plumbing and flooded our entire downstairs hallway. When we had the flood we contacted them, of course we didn't contact the people who screwed it up...we were done with them and we didn't want them back in our house. So they came out and completed that...they are just great people. It was relatively expensive but I do business with them because whatever they do they do it right 100% of the time in my experience. They are not the cheapest by any means but they do first quality work. Their people are first quality people, they know exactly what they are doing. I've been nothing but 100% impressed with them as a company. I am completely happy with having done so. Their work is really excellent. Their organization is first class, everything about them is top shelf. If you want it done right, get these people...they are the best.
