Squirrels had been gnawing on the lead collars of the vent stacks on my roof. I called Scott Exteriors about having them replaced and for a roof inspection. They recommended rubber boots over lead collars and found several other problems, loose nails, that needed to be corrected. I contracted with them to do the work which was done promptly and was of good quality.
Description of Work: Replace seven damaged plumbing lead collars. Paint new rubber boots and plumbing pipes. Caulking as needed. Replace chimney flashing.

Scott Exteriors -SE- were the most responsive to my requests for estimate for this work. Other highly rated companys took up to two weeks longer to send in there estimates. SE made it easy to select colors and sign paper work by doping by my office or home as needed. SE was also quick to answer all my questions once work started, most often within a few hours. The work was done quickly, cleanly and without any problems.

They were awesome.! I worked with Corby who was very nice and explained everything. Came out a throughly inspected the roof. Sent a quote the next day. He itemized everything he was going to do and gave the pricing and grand total. They scheduled me for the 8/27/12. They were there at the time the said they would be. Finshed that day and it looked great! They were fast, efficient, very nice and hard working. Completely cleaned up before they left. There were no surprises on the cost-they charged what they said they would. I would highly recommend them!

Corby H. was very responsive and helpful with providing an estimate and facilitating insurance response to discrepancies between his estimate and the claim adjustor's submission. Additionally, I have a very irregular schedule and he graciously worked around this by having the work crew complete the work at my convenience rather than theirs. The work crew was timely, professional, and thorough in their work, arriving when they said they would and completing the work at the estimated date/time. My only concern was a little more thorough cleaning of attic space. I live in an older house with an attic fan, when using the attic fan after the re-roof job old roofing material rained down when opening the louvers. With that being said, this is the second time I have used this company and will continue to use in the future.
Description of Work: Services included removal of existing roof, installing OSB decking, installation of felt underlayment, installing drip edge, installing flashing on plumbing stacks, and installing composition shingles.

We contacted Scott Exteriors as well as several other companies because Scott was so highly rated on Angie's List. They did not disappoint us. Far from it, they were outstanding. When we contacted Scott, they were overwhelmed with the amount of work as a result of a major hailstorm in the area during June, and advised us that they were behind in setting appointments for estimates. Two weeks later their representative, a most personable individual, came to give us an estimate. Corby was extremely thorough, took at least an hour inspecting the roof (on a 1700 sq.ft. house), and explained what he had found and what needed to be done. He found a weak spot close to the chimney and also explained that our then-current turbine configuration was not the most efficient. We discussed what other roofing companies had suggested, and he explained in detail why we should go ahead and change the configuration during the installation of a new roof. He explained the installation process and his role during installation, did not pressure us into signing the contract, and left us with the estimate. Internet research confirmed Corby’s assessment of the ventilation situation of our hip roof. An installation date was scheduled after he returned a few days later when we signed the contract. On the day of the installation, Corby and the installers arrived at 7:00 in the morning, right on schedule as promised. There were six installers, who ripped off the old roof, checked out the entire decking, hammered in stray old nails down by hand, laid the 30-lb. underlayer, and then installed the new roof. I might add that the work was performed during daytime temperatures exceeding 105 degrees. The installers were real troopers. What impressed us so immensely was that a few days before our neighbor had his roof replaced and all of the old materials were dumped into a trailer which had to be picked up and emptied several times, and in fact, at one point the workers had to stop because the trailer was too full. Scott Exteriors had a very large truck which held all of our old materials and was then hauled off, leaving a relatively neat driveway with only the new materials on the ground. The inspector arrived about 10:30 to check on everything, and he was a real pro and personable as well. They gave us the feeling that they cared about doing an excellent job for us. During and after the job, one individual constantly walked around the premises with a magnet to pick up any stray nails. When the installers left, the area was spotless, nothing remained indicating that so much work had been performed that day. The inspector returned the next day to make certain that everything was performed according to their guidelines. He also spent an entire hour on the roof, checking it out thoroughly as well as taking photos of the roof. We cannot applaud Scott enough for the thorough and professional job they performed, and we love our new roof.
Description of Work: Scott's courteous, friendly and professional representative came to our home to give us an estimate to replace a 6-year-old roof which had been heavily damaged during a recent hailstorm. There were no high-pressure tactics, only helpful information so that we could make a more educated decision upon selecting a roofer. The information provided was confirmed by our own Internet research after the rep’s visit. Corby, the salesman, explained Scott’s work plan, his own role and that of the inspector during installation, and was extremely thorough in all of the information provided to us. On the day of installation, the roofers and Corby appeared right on time, even a few minutes early. The removed the old roof, hammered down old nails, covered the roof with new underlayer and then replaced the shingles. The old materials were thrown into a dump truck which left as soon as all of the old materials were discarded. During the entire time, someone walked around the premises with a magnet to pick up any stray nails and clean up. The job was completed that day and our driveway was left as spotless as it was when they had arrived that morning. Outstanding service was performed by all and we can only sing Scott’s praises.

I felt this company has wonderful people in their staff - from the account representative to the work crews that do the work. I would not have known what to do to about getting the insurance claim filed, estimates, options without Patrick Pearson; he came over to temporarily put a cover on the broken skylight and walked me to what needed to be done. And after my insurance clim was settled he came over again providing me with a very clear estimate of the work and dates for work to be done which were kept; Patrick is the best. The work crew who arrived worked quickly, kept to the schedule and left the premises totally clean. After the work was completed an "inspector" from the company came to insure all was appropriately installed.Very happy with this company in every respect and are my company of choice for roofing work.

I called Scott because I had a roof issue earlier this year and they were very prompt and let me know the problem did not require major attention. After the roof was installed I really appreciated the follow up. Miguel came out inspected the roof, was very nice and pointed out a couple of issues that they would come and repair.

My roof replacement only took one day. All debris was cleaned. This was my first roof replacement and the staff at Scott explained the whole process to me and worked with my insurance adjuster. The soffit vents were installed the next day. The work only took a few hours. Scott Exteriors did an excellent job! I am very pleased!
Description of Work: My roof was damaged by the June 2012 hail storm. I chose to upgrade the shingles on my roof with Class IV IR shingles. After getting several bids, I elected to selected Scott Exteriors (Steve Ralston was the estimator). I also had Scott Exteriors add soffit vents once the roof was completed.

The front office is responsive but their workers are very sloppy and inattentive. It took 4-5 visits to get the job completed correctly. If they respond to this, they will say that I had unrealistic expectations. I just wanted the job done right the first time, but regardless of that... ....The killer is this. On one of the visits, the crew was packing up to leave. Luckily I was at home and stopped them and asked them to clean up and if they had a magnet could they sweep the area where they were working. They kind of rolled their eyes and begrudgingly went to their truck and did a cursory sweep about 4-5 feet out from where they were working. They found a half dozen nails, which didn't exactly inspire confidence in me. They then left. Since I have young children (1, 3 years old) I was concerned that they may not have got all the nails so I went an bought a magnet sweeper and started sweeping yard around their work. I started finding nails everywhere mostly in a bee-line between where their truck was parked and where their ladder was. They were the same roofingnails they were using. When I called the owner, livid about this, he accused me of trying to "shake him down" so I could get out of paying. I told him that I intended to pay, since they performed the work, but that they should have been more careful about clean up. I would never use these guys .
Description of Work: THEY LEFT OVER 30 NAILS IN MY YARD!! EVEN AFTER I ASKED THEM TO SWEEP FOR NAILS!!! I HAVE YOUNG CHILDREN, THANK GOODNESS I FOUND THEM WITH A MAGNET BEFORE ONE OF MY KIDS STEPPED ON VERY SLOPPY - LOTS OF ISSUES WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND

Response from Scott Exteriors
We appreciate all customer’s responses and it is unfortunate that our repair crew did not meet expectations on this job. We do thousands of repairs every year, and we try very hard to be as clean and professional as possible. We emphasize to our crews to be friendly, professional, and clean; however, we regret that this job may not have been our best clean-up work. It is important to note the owner of Scott exteriors did not use the term “shake me down” as stated by the customer – rather we asked specifically what he would like for us to do for him. It says something about our commitment to our customers that we returned to the job 4 times; however, this is not representative of 99.9% of the jobs that we do. We regret not being able to satisfy 100% of our customers and will continue as a company to strive for that 100% mark anyway.

Outstanding service. The crew came about 6:30 in the morning to stage their supplies and then started promptly. They stayed until 7 in the evening to complete the job under the threat of rain and then cleaned up the worksite afterwards. We were called by the adjustor during the day to see how things were going. The crew was great and very professional. Thye following day, someone came out to pick up roofing samples and also asked us how it went. The results were great!

I believe the roof repair went fine, I was not home when repairs were completed, and have not been on the roof to inspect. I have to trust they did a good job. My experience with company representative Bruce Bacon was very positive, with good follow up and responsiveness on the quote and scheduling the repair crew. Company came across as very professional, good customer service and responsiveness on the phone. I used their Angie's List coupon to receive 10% off the job. I obtained several quotes and found everyone's minimum roof charge to be $350 and that is all my repair required. [the brick mason work was the more expensive part of the repair]
Description of Work: Repaired shingles and flashing around chimney damaged by lightening strike. First they highly recommended a brick mason Jack Dempsey 214-335-4804 to rebrick the chimney who did an excellent job with excellent follow up and responsiveness. Then Scott Exteriors did the roof repair.

I had Scott Roofing (now called Scott Exteriors) install my Class-IV roof six years ago (August 2006). They did an excellent job. However, last month (June 13, 2012) we had a really bad hail storm (baseball size hail). Since I have a Class IV roof, I wasn't sure how much damage the roof had suffered. The next day, I called Scott Exteriors to ask them to come do an inspection. The lady who answered the phone immediately told me that they were backed up, and that I should probably contact another contractor. I then told her that I am an existing customer. She then told me that being an existing customer makes a difference, and that my salesman would contact me shortly. Five days passed before I received the following email, which was sent to 75-100 of their clients: "Dear clients, We are truly sorry for the delay in getting to your roof inspection. At this point, we have surpassed 650 requests for roof inspections. If you know you are in an area that has been hit by damaging hail, contact your insurance carrier and get on their list. We are going as fast as we can and appreciate your patience. Please know that when we come to your home you will get out full attention. If you have made other arrangements, please let our office staff know. Best regards, Joe" I was hoping not to involve the insurance company because of my large deductible, unless I needed to replace the entire roof. Therefore, I patiently awaited to hear something from my salesman (Joe Clifford). I then called them 2.5 weeks later (on July 6), and was told by the lady who answered the phone that she would let Joe know that I called. I waited a week to hear from Joe, but never did. Therefore, I sent him an email on July 13, asking "Got an estimate as to when someone will be able to come out and inspect my roof?" He responded immediately with the following email: " Alan, At this point with over 1800 phone calls and 5 of us, we don?t have the man power to do hail inspections. I know no one likes calling their insurance carrier but that?s where we are. We are now looking at houses that have been approved by insurance for replacement. Thanks, Joe " I did not appreciate being treated this way, especially since I did not want to involve the insurance company. Also, I did not want to start looking for another roofing company. I trust the work that Scott Exterior does, and really wanted them to come out and inspect my roof. I sent Joe the following email: "Hi Joe, So what do you suggest if I do not need a replacement, just repairs? My insurance policy has a $XXX deductible; thus, the entire cost of repairs will be out-of-pocket. Therefore I have not contacted my insurance company. Do you want me to contact another roofing company, even though you guys did the installation? I trust you guys to do the job right, and don?t really feel comfortable going to another roofing company. Suggestions? Alan " He responded immediately with the following email: " The insurance carrier is the bottom line as to what they deemed as damaged. If they say its damaged then we can progress if they say no damage you have it in your records the roof is ok from that date." I was therefore forced to contact my insurance company. After they sent out an inspector (July 16), I sent Joe this email: " The insurance inspector was at my house this morning. He said that there was damage to the roof, the rain gutters (need complete replacement), and to my patio cover. He will send me the estimate within the next day or two. So, what?s the next step?" When I did not get a response from him that day, I sent another email (the next day; July 17), saying: "When can I get an estimate?" I expected him to come out to inspect my roof, so he would know what exactly needed to be replaced. However, he sent me an email stating: " I will be doing paperwork all day tomorrow. " I wasn't really sure what this meant and how it related to my situation. The next day (July 18) he sent me an estimate of the cost to replace my entire roof, including new lead collars, power vents, low profile vents, and turbine. I was really confused and disturbed by this. How can he decide -- sight unseeen -- that my entire roof, including all the vents needed to be replaced? I expect an existing customer to be treated better than this. To add insult to injury, the quoted price was twice the original price. I sent him an email about the price increase ("Can you explain why it?s literally twice the price of the cost of my original roof?"), and his response was: "Materials have gone up way more than twice the cost of when we did your roof. Shingles and underlayment?s are petroleum based and it has been the worst storm season in 30 years. We don?t make the stuff, we only install it. I agree it is price raping from the manufacturers. There is all kinds of data online about why roofing is so expensive. Insurance should be at the current price rates if they know you have class 4 shingles." Although I think they did an excellent job six years ago, I don't think they know how to treat customers. Therefore, I will be using a different roofer (not sure who yet), and will never recommend Scott Exteriors to anyone.

I worked with Jordan Wassel to decide on the replacement shingles, and with his professional consultation and advice decided to use impact resistant shingles which not only got me a new roof discount from my insurer, but also a 25% discount on annual premium. Jordan is very professional and and helped me with some minor roof repairs back in 2009. I also used Scott to inspect a dormer window leak, and while I thought I needed a new window, Dale Bush determined that my problem was just a bad install from my builder, and corrected the leak without the price of a complete new window. Scott Exteriors is very honest and reasonable with their approach. They won;t push you to spend dollars that aren't needed. In spring 2011, Jordan inspected my roof after the hail storms that spring, when all my neighbors were getting new roofs. he determined we didn't need a new roof at that point. On April 3rd, 2012, we were hit with softball size hail and the need for a new roof was pretty obvious. Scott doesn't chase storms like the hundred other vulchers that knocked on my door within minutes of the hail storm offering free TV's to sign with them on the spot. I did get one other quote from another high rated roofer on Angie's list and the price was very comparable.

Had a good experience previously with Bruce and Scott Exteriors, so called for an estimate to replace the garage flat roof, which was sagging and leaking, as well as estimate to cut a section of the roof back where a tree was touching. Bruce came out promptly and gave an estimate for both. We accepted his estimate for the garage roof replacement, but decided to do the cut ourselves, as estimate was higher than I felt reasonable. Severe weather caused a delay in the work schedule, but his crew came out promptly when it resolved and performed the service as promised. His flat-roof guy (I forget his name) seemed very knowledgeable, and explained in detail what they were doing. The work was done in a timely manner, and clean up was done satisfactorily. The gutter was installed nicely, and as I had requested. I only dropped the quality from A->B, since there is still slight pooling on one section of the roof after a rain, but it is not nearly as bad as previously. Bruce personally came out to look at it when I mentioned my issue, but I don't think it's worth re-doing. Will absolutely hire again, and will recommend highly.

Bruce was able to come out two days after we called, in response to concerns about the roof from our initial inspector. He inspected the roof and stated that there was no need to put a new roof on, and that only minor repairs would be necessary. His price was competitive with other roofing companies that we called, and he seemed the most professional. His crew was able to come out the next week, as promised, did a thorough and efficient job, and cleaned up nicely. Bruce himself came out to inspect the finished work and approved it. A wonderful experience overall. We have since used this company again.

Overall, this is the best experience I've had on a job of this size with any contractor. It was easy to do business with this company. Scott replaced our hail-damaged roof and added ridge, low-profile, and soffit vents to improve ventilation. The estimate was thorough, and there was a good amount of communication via phone and email in answering all my questions. The crew was friendly, professional, and hard-working. They completed the job in a day. The follow-up inspection was easily arranged. The inspection revealed a few loose ends to tie up, and another crew came out to finish the job. When I mentioned I wasn't happy with the way one of the vent pipes looked, they replaced it with something different without hesitation. It was a pleasant experience working with them. Scott honored the Angie's List coupon, which made the cost of the job very competitive. The new roof looks great, and Scott sent a written warranty. I will definitely use Scott again for all my roofing needs.

We used this company in the past for the same services (except gutters---this time first time gutters were evere replaced) about 10-12 years ago with the same great service so we chose them again after researching their current status on Angie's list. All representatives of Scott's exteriors are very responsive and professional. The crews showed up in time each of the 2 days and worked very hard throughout the day. The work was very well done--all looks great!! May b a bit higher in charge than other companies but their excellent work is well worth it!!

With a seventeen year old 3-tab shingle roof nearing the end of its twenty year life we decided to replace it. There wasn?t any damage over the years necessitating an insurance claim, we planned to pay for it ourselves. So it better be as close to perfect as possible, we thought. Sorted through Angie?s List reviews and settled on Scott Exteriors. Set up an appointment and Corby Hosea came out on time early one Monday morning and walked the site and the roof, discussed the type of roof we were looking for, and offered the name of an HVAC services company who could install the roof dryer vent I?d ordered online previously. He retrieved some information from his truck and walked me through the different kinds of shingles, in this case CertainTeed Landmark IR, and suggested a range of colors he thought might be most appropriate for the brick and the planned paint. His quote was timely and detailed, delivered by email per my request. After a bit more research and detailed reading of the manufacturer?s warranty I requested that the requirements set forth by CertainTeed be followed for the upgraded warranty and wind rating. Corby provided a new quote quickly which I printed, we signed, and faxed back to him the same day. He also detailed how the upgraded warranty paperwork would be processed and provided by the manufacturer after the invoice was settled. Miguel and his crew arrived on schedule and started the demolition. They were all professional, mature, diligent, and quiet going about their work. And quick too. We were notified of all problems as they came up and they worked through to solve them quickly and efficiently. When the materials arrived I inspected them to be sure they matched the quote and they did without fail. The material delivery itself was efficient and quick, with a fork lift off a flatbed handling the front and back delivery, the latter via the alley. The roofing crew?s dump truck was backed up to the roof edge at the garage in back off the alley without a problem. There was no damage to anything from the fence to the flower beds to the house or lawn. There was also no interior damage, nothing shook loose, and no nailheads appeared in the ceilings. George arrived later that morning to oversee the job and to introduce himself as he would be doing the inspection of the completed job later that day. We talked for a while and he helped explain some details I wasn?t well enough acquainted with to see how they were done. Very helpful and clearly knowledgeable. I pointed out the turbine vents that were to be removed and decked over, he found that line item on the work order and checked with Miguel to make sure it got done. He also checked on the rest of the vents and other issues before leaving to visit other working crews. The HVAC services person arrived on time and worked with the roofing crew to get the vent installed and then plumbed into the dryer vent exhaust in the attic. No problems with multiple contractors on site working in the same place, very professional. All needed decking repairs were made and were done very well with new OSB, not a sloppy cut or nailing in sight. Once the roof was clear the underlayment went down over valley and flashing metal and then water and ice underlayment went down before any shingle bundles were taken to the roof. I was able to get a look at the roof at this point and it looked very nicely done. The flashing around the skylights and chimney was far better than what had been there initially, more of it and wider above them to be more specific. Miguel went out of his way to answer questions and to point out portions of their work being sure to ask if it was acceptable or if I wanted to make any changes. It all looked very good, exceptional really, so reroofing started at that point. It looked like it would be absolutely impossible to leak it was that well sealed. The crew moved quickly to get all the shingles up on the roof as shingling started in the back. This may sound trivial but their air compressor was a gas engine driven type that was exceptionally quiet. If you?ve had to listen to an electric compressor running on and off through the day while it sat right outside a window then you probably know this is a great courtesy to the customer. Reroofing isn?t a calm experience but they?ve gone the extra mile to make it as least intrusive as one can imagine. Once the bulk of the shingling was complete, including hip and ridge shingles, George was by to inspect the vents in the attic and the flue on the hot water heater, all of which he did in great detail. There was a problem with the furnace flue that had been there since the HVAC unit was replaced ten years ago and which couldn?t be fixed simply by moving the jack on the decking. George however, working with Miguel on the outside got it clear of the decking without having to tear anything out or disrupting a single joint in the flue pipe. Pretty impressive bit of work. Everything else checked out OK and the finished roof was better than expected, much better actually. I don't know how they got all the old tin painted so perfectly, it all looked completely new! Wasn't expecting that. Every vent, every bit of flashing, the flues, you name it, perfect, plumb, and color matched like they grew there. And the drip edge matched all of it. Maybe this isn't that much of a surprise to some but it was to me, it's details like this, undersold and overdelivered, that define best in class work to me. And, the color we chose, one of those Corby had suggested, was perfect. Who'd'a thunk it? Always hard to tell from a picture but it did it justice, no surprises there. We're very pleased with the look, color, and quality of the work. Honestly it really does look perfect close up or far away. These guys _know_ what they're doing, they're not guessing, or hoping, or wishing, they're the real deal. After they were finished and had cleaned up the yard with multiple passes of two sizes of magnets you would?ve been hard pressed to tell they?d been there at all and honestly that's not an exaggeration. Having been through previous roofing experiences this was a most welcome extra. In fact there was one piece of an old shingle out in the back of the back yard that had sailed there somehow but wasn?t noticeable as it was on edge to anyone standing anywhere near the house. Pretty funny really, got a chuckle out of it anyway - an escapee from the old roof... And after a number of days actively looking for nails, or anything else for that matter, I found precisely one, count ?em one, roofing nail out by the front walk halfway to the street. That's gotta be some kind of record. Other than a few little tiny chips of old shingle that wouldn?t have been found without getting quite close to the ground, there was nothing to be found. At all. Very cool. How they managed this I?ve no clue but dang they?re good. All this took place prior to exterior renovation and Corby was again right on top of many emails helping me to coordinate several contractors? services later after the renovation was completed. Timing was excellent and everything went perfectly smoothly. Given the time of year and the workload being carried the ability to deliver services within such a small window of opportunity speaks highly of everyone at Scotts Exterior from Miguel and his crew, George, Corby, their management, and senior management. No company can run this well with sloppy management. Renovation required removal of the new drip edge and this was expected. Replacement of 2x4s behind the fascia necessitated lifting the edge of the roof in a large number of places, and this was expected as well. Corby, George, and Miguel were right there after the renovation was finished to make repairs, install new drip edge, and add some flashing at a few places where it?d never been either adequate or installed in the first place and which wasn't obvious until the revovation was complete. And again it?s an incredibly nice job with some details supplied by Miguel that were far from obvious but added the perfect touch to places that wouldn?t have otherwise looked as nice as they do now. Brought a smile to my face, that?s for sure. Great guys all, wouldn?t think twice to use them again, no doubt about it. Oh, and the neighbors had nice things to say about how great it looked when finished just before sunset that day, smiles all around. Seriously nice work guys, more than worth every last cent.

We had used Scott Exteriors for previous roof repairs, and when our roof was damaged by a recent storm, they were the only ones we called. Our new roof is beautiful, and they took extra care as our older home had some structural issues in the attic that needed to be treated carefully. Their price was fair, workmanship top quality, and ALL of the people we dealt with at Scott were professional and pleasant. If you're going to make an investment like this in your home, be sure you go with someone you can trust!

Installed two new wind turbines, repaired plumbing stacks and painted all the same color as the roof. Shored up some rafters in the attic that were aging.
