The only reason responsiveness was a "B" and not an "A" is they apparently had a problem with their phone service when we called on Friday and did not return calls at first. When they did call back on Sunday an appointment was made for Monday morning and they were actually a few minutes early.

I was very impressed with him. I will use again. He told us the transmission was going to go out at any time and he was right.

Angie's List did it again! My experience with Star Appliance Service underscores why I rely on Angie's List every time I need to hire a service contractor. I carefully research reports from other members before making any hiring decisions and have yet to be disappointed. In fact, the Angie's List service contractors I have hired have been, without exception, a cut above the rest. As luck would have it, my side-by-side refrigerator/freezer quit cooling on a Saturday evening. Knowing I would have to wait until Monday morning to try get someone out look at it, I had no idea if it could be repaired. I had an idea that it was the fan motor, since I could hear the compressor running and no air was blowing from the refrigerator air vent. I immediately turned to Angie's List and identified Star Appliance Service's David Messick as one of the premier appliance service contractors in my area. In fact, I was impressed with the large number and quality of Dave's positive reviews. We shopped for replacement refrigerators on Sunday just in case the problem wasn't worth fixing and called Star first thing Monday. Dave answered the phone himself, was extremely courteous and agreed to come out between 12 and 2. He actually called again mid-morning to let us know that he had finished another job earlier and could come out before noon if that was agreeable. Dave quickly diagnosed the problem as a worn out freezer fan motor and gave us an inclusive price of $219 to replace it. It was definitely a lot cheaper than a new refrigerator! Dave had the replacement part on his truck and quickly installed the new motor and had us up an running within an hour of his arrival. He is very knowledgable and took the time to tell us about our refrigerator (a Kenmore which Dave says was actually made by Amana). David Messick is definitely our "go-to guy" for all large appliance repair.

I called David on Friday morning, and he scheduled to come out between 11 and 1. He called 30 minutes before he came, and arrived on time. He was polite and neatly dressed. The refrigerator was not cooling, so David investigated to find the problem. After ruling out the compressor and trying to solve the problem by replacing the fan motor, he was unsure of the exact problem (faulty motherboard or faulty fans), but suggested replacing the motherboard, and if that did not solve the problem, he would put the old board back in and just charge for a trip charge (and suggested buying a new refrigerator since repairing it by replacing the motherboard AND the fans would be prohibitively expensive).

I called Dave and within a day he came to inspect a gas cooktop whose igniters were not working. I was tired of lighting them with a fire place match. He discovered that all 4 burners were badly corroded and decided that he needed to order new burners. He told me the price of each unit and the total he would charge with labor on a Wednesday that the parts would arrive early the following week. I agreed. On Monday he called me to schedule the replacement work and arrived Tuesday afternoon at the time he promised. He replaced 4 burners and checked to insure all were working properly. I used Star Appliance in the past and will do so again as the need arises. I believe Dave offers his customers value, responsiveness and professionalism.

David did extensive testing on the freezer and was honest about what his tests revealed. I felt he could have charged me much more for the work than he did. I will definitely use him again. He was punctual, called ahead of time, talked to me honestly and truthfully and was pleasant to work with. I was very impressed considering I have used MANY appliance repair companies before and have not had good experiences. He gave me the feeling he was more concerned about being fair and honest than charging me an arm and a leg.

It was great. He returned my call the day I left a message. Was able to come the next day. He diagnosed the problem with both the washer and dryer. He had to get the part for the dryer so we made an appointment for a couple of days later to install the new parts - he was available the next day to finish the fix, but it was a bad day for me. Anyway. He was on time. Didn't mind me watching and asking questions. He finished and tested both machines within one hour. He was professional and I would recommend him to anyone!

I left Mr. Messick a message. He replied back to me promptly. I gave him a brief description of the problem. Mr. Messick provided me with his availability to work for the following week. I left him a message on his answering machine the time that my husband could be at home for the repair. Mr. Messick was very timely, responsive, and professional! Not to mention, he knew exactly what he was doing. It took him a total of about 3 minutes to fix the problem. This was not his first rodeo!

What more could you ask for? Mr. Messick returned our initial call promptly, showed up on time, fixed the problem quickly and efficiently - all done courteously at a fair price.

Overall a great experience. Star had done such a great job fixing our dryer before we were sure to call them first this time. Technician was on time, ran some tests, and diagnosed the problem in a matter of minutes. Replacement of the water pump was fast and efficient. We will definitely be using Star again in the future.

GE Profile Dishwasher had small pool of water on kitchen floor just below it after being run. We observed a slow drip at bottom of dishwasher and assumed that we either had a plumbing leak or the door seal had gone bad. Star Appliance came out determined that all that was wrong was the door was not fitting tight enough. To tighten it simply required loosening two screws, adjusting the latch, and tightening the screws. It all took about 20 minutes. Other companies we have dealt with before would have charged for the trip, labor and most likely invented some more involved problem. Star was honest and the most fair priced appliance repair company we had ever dealt with in Houston (over the last 27 years of homeownership). It's nice to finally have identified a honest appliance repair company. We highly recommend Star. Thanks Star!!!!

Dave was at my house about an hour after my initial voicemail. He diagnosed the problem and gave me two options and their price. I chose the less expensive and the ice dispenser is working great! Dave was professional, prompt and efficient.

David arrived on time, diagnosed the problem, estimated the repair costs, did the work, cleaned up the area and was gone in less than an hour.

I called at 8:00 Friday am. Dave was at my house by 9:00, and problem was solved by 10:15. Couldn't be happier with the experience.
