Not sure what provider means re: accusing me of "evading" payment. I am paid up in full. Final check of 3 from insurance co. was slightly delayed due to insurance co. error: made out to incorrect mortgage holder as co-endorser (out of state); so I had to request a new check; of course then forwarded promptly to Acme when received (less than 30 days). Washing machine damage discovered after workers had left, I was at work so it was reported later when I discovered it upon entering laundry area. Have photos of wrong color shingles, warped (new) gutters and debris in laundry room.
Description of Work: Replaced entire roof and subroof (radiant barrier). I called this company by mistake. I had thought I read about them on Angie's List but it turned out I remembered their name from an ad. Their rep was extremely pushy and at the same time assured me it would take "one day" to do my roof and that "we can make sure that your insurance company will cover the entire cost except for your deductible" which at the time was $1,050. He said that while my insurance company would have to approve his estimate, he did not anticipate any problems whatsoever and cited specific clients with whom he had accomplished successful negotiations with insurance companies, claiming that he used to be an insurance adjuster himself. He showed me a notebook full of references on different kinds of stationery, then insisted that "to even get the permit process going and start things with your insurance company" I had to pay $250 immediately. Foolishly I did so instead of consulting at least one other company, since I was eager to get the work done and frankly I believed the rep and his "pitch." Later, this same rep tried to get me to pay him another $1,000 months before any work was actually done, "to pull a permit" which ended up costing $175 (and even for that, I never saw a receipt and paid an additional $250 (credited to total). The damage was incurred on December 4, 2009 and the roof was not completed for OVER FOUR MONTHS. My insurance company challenged the original estimate which was extremely high (over $11,000 for a 1200 square foot house), and ended up agreeing to something over $8500, however my deductible was raised to $1350, there were "unexpected" items which suddenly came up at the last minute resulting in several hundred dollars additional on the final invoice which I was then told "they will not pay for. (?) Every stage of the process I had to place innumerable phone calls and send emails to the rep, who would make promises which then took weeks to complete (estimates, permits, appraisals, etc.). Several times said he was "too busy" to address my situation because he was "out looking at roofs," i.e., giving estimates (presumably, to new customers, before dealing with me, an existing one). The final roof, although I specifically chose white shingles, is gray and does not go with my house. The roofers did the job in two days, and for one night left my attic open to the sky with a few tarps over it, despite the rep's promising they would not do that. It took another 2 weeks before the gutters were replaced, and more mistakes were made with those although apparently corrected. Overall I would never deal with them again and would not recommend them to anyone. I have since looked at other roofers on Angie's List and noticed almost every job I saw cost less than mine, proportionately. I am yet to "settle up" the final invoice and am very upset with this experience.

Response from Acme Roofing
Member has made false accusations and statements that arc no true. The work completed and supporting paperwork and emails do not support the validity of her complaint. I. Since there is no reason for her fabricated accusations and statements that we have no choice but to believe that she is trying to extort money from us by not paying What she owes us. A brief of her threat has been. "If you don't give me some money then I will ruin your reputation by turning you in to the Better Business Bureau" and Angie:'s List. (She stated in one of her letters that she wanted us to pay her personally $8,500.00???) It is clear to us that she will go to great lengths to obtain money dishonestly. She is deflecting her obligation to pay us what she owes by filing erroneous complaints and making false accusations. For work completed. She still owes $606.00. plus $125.00 late fee. plus interest. Plus the cost of collecting the final balance. Plus time spent by our staff to answer her false accusations. 2. Washing machine damage? This is a very farfetched accusation. This was unknown to us until she filed her first complaint. When we completed the replacement of the roof and decking we cleaned up the work site. The gutter work was done shortly after the roof and we came back the following days and moved one of the downspouts and adjusted the gutter screens. The washing machine issue or debris Clean up was never mentioned. Our workers did not move or work on her washing machine. 3. According to our contract with her, it is the customer's responsibility to obtain her money from her Mortgage Company and Insurance carrier, we do not have a contract with the Insurance Company or Mortgage Company, she does. We assisted her by submitting the paperwork that she needed to get the money from her insurance company to do the job right. We do not have an agreement with her to collect from her insurance company or her mortgage company. This was her responsibility although we helped her as much as possible. However, it is her obligation to pay her bill on time which she has failed to do. 4. She chose GAF/Elk Royal Sovereign "White" shingles. She received the white shingles that she chose, we are not responsible for her dislike of the choice that she made. We simply gave her the color that she chose. "White", She placed her linger on the sample board, choosing "WHITE". (The: photos of the roof are in the large package that we sent the Central Texas BBB previously. She has a white shingle roof with a new radiant barrier 5/8 “ deck. 5. This process of working with some insurance companies take some time. This was out of our hands. We submitted the insurance paperwork as promised in our agreement. We got the approval of the funds required to do the job properly. We waited for her to meet the terms of her agreement and make the start up payment. We proceeded with the job promptly after she met the terms of our agreement by paying the start up money as stated in our agreement. It is amazing how many unknown and unsubstantiated claims that she has made. Then she requests a full refund of money for her claim? She is trying to steal our services and the upgrades to her at no charge to her plus an additional $8,500.00 for having to deal with her? (Her actions show that she is not truthful and that she is dishonest.) She really has no legitimate complaint. the job that we did for her is a I good job. It is complete. It passed the City of Austin Inspection. We met terms or our agreement with her. She has failed to meet her obligation in paying us the balance of what is owed. We invite the BBB to meet us out at her home to view the quality of our work. We are also willing to meet at the Better Business Office andd confront her in person with our record of the facts, photos and (E-mails from her) The paperwork will show the true story. We are willing to follow the entire BBB procedure (and then some) to keep our good name and good rating with the Central Texas Better Business Bureau. Gary Luton-President
