Jodi and her team were a dream to work with! We reached out to Jodi for a bid on re-building our patio due to some flooding/drainage issues, and also to make it into an outdoor living space. She was very responsive and had great ideas on how to solve our water problems while also transforming our boring backyard into something really beautiful. You can tell that Jodi really cares about the quality of her work and we could not be happier with the results. She is a kind and professional person to work with, and our communication before and during the project was fantastic. She took care of every detail and we are still in shock at how quickly it all came together. They started on time and finished the whole project in less than 2 weeks. Her crew was amazing and worked so hard all day, every day - while also leaving everything in perfect shape and cleaner than they found it. We will definitely be doing future projects with Jodi and the Morningstar team!

Very poor communication. My emails about concerns about the proposed work were not answered. Jodi wanted to be paid without having clarified my questions, and at that point I backed out.

Jodi was very prompt with returning my phone call inquiring about designing and building a new backyard patio for our home. She was very easy to talk to and communicated via email, text, phone, with the desire to help turn our backyard living space into something beautiful! She was very helpful in working around our budget and listening to our wants/needs. Her crew worked hard and quickly, finsihing the project in a week - exactly what Jodi had quoted! We appreciate her willingness, attentiveness, and dedication to finshing this project so that we could enjoy our new living space outdoors-- Can't wait for FALL weather!! :) Thank you, Jodi!!

This is the biggest home improvement project we have done so far and thanks to Jodi and her crew it went really well. The end result was also great. Firstly, I was impressed by her responsiveness (over text and email) and punctuality (showed up on time for all the meetings before the work started and actually started and finished the project 3 days before she had promised). I am glad I stuck to her advice about the choice of stone as well as shape and size of the patio. She also kept me informed about when the material was going to be delivered and stopped by everyday and multiple times on some days. Another thing I would like to mention, she honored the price she had quoted 2 years ago for this project. After the work was done they cleaned up the place really well and pressure-washed the patio and driveway where the material was stored. The guys working on the project were very punctual and even on 100degree days they were working really hard to get it done on time. Kudos to them. I was impressed to know that some of her crew members are working with her for 5 years or more (if I remember correctly). Overall, working with Jodi was great and will certainly give her a call for future landscaping projects around my home. I highly recommend Jodi if you want good quality work done on time.

Jodi and her crew took our awful backyard that we never spent any time in and turned it into a beautiful oasis that we LOVE to spend time in. Early last year (2014) we hired a contractor to replaster and renovate our pool. This contractor ripped up our pool and deck, took our money and disappeared. When Jodi came to our house for the initial meeting, I was honestly afraid that she would say it was too much work and turn us away. The complete opposite happened!! She was excited and took our disaster on! She ended up doing everything aside from our pool (and she actually recommended the pool company that we ended up using and loving) and it turned out perfect!! We started this past March and had to put up with our wetter than normal Spring. Jodi was excellent with communication and was always just a text or phone call away. Her crew is awesome and if you use her you will love them as well, Darwin is amazing!! Our deck was stained incorrectly the first time and it could have turned into a real nightmare. But Jodi ended up totally redoing the whole deck instead (we didn't pay a single dime for this) which cost her around $3000. She is awesome and works so hard to make everything perfect so her clients are happy. Our lot has a very large slope in it and she took care of any and all drainage issues that we have dealt with in the past. She did a beautiful job and we could not have been happier. We will have her back eventually to do our front yard as well. Highly highly recommend Jodi and Morningstar Landscaping.

It is rare for me to be truly impressed by a service provider. I am typically satisfied if someone just does the job they promise to do, because I have dealt with many different providers who over promise and under-deliver. But Jodi and the rest of the Morningstar Landscaping crew were truly impressive. Our backyard had a steep slope that was completely unusable and provided nothing but weeds and a breeding ground for mosquitoes. I had dreamed of changing that slope into a usable tiered patio space and garden beds so I started contacting companies. I first spoke with Jodi a few months ago to schedule a consultation and she asked me enough questions over the phone to get an idea of what I wanted before she even arrived at the house for the initial consultation. She remembered what I told her over the phone and asked more questions and truly discussed our goals for the spaces so that she and I were on the same page before any bids were provided or work planned. She listened when I told her our budget constraints and worked with us to determine the best materials and design to be able to stay within our budget, setting realistic expectations for the project. She didn't try to upsell or push materials that she knew would be out of our budget. She sent a bid that accurately reflected our conversations and the work to be performed. Jodi told me that the work would take approximately 2 weeks due to the difficult nature of slope and the difficulty of accessing our backyard. This made complete sense because to get to our backyard, you first have to climb down a set of stairs which meant the materials would have to hand-carried down. Initial work on the project was delayed due to the heavy rains we had this spring, and Jodi communicated with me throughout to let me know when the project could realistically begin. Given the slope of the backyard, it would have been unsafe to work when the ground was drenched. I appreciated her communication, and her attention to safety regarding the project. It made me feel secure that the retaining wall they would install would truly be sturdy and secure. Once work began, I paid attention to the crew's efforts and could see just how hard and diligently they worked. I'm not an expert in stone work or masonry and irrigation, but I could observe the care taken by the crew to make sure all was level and functioning appropriately throughout the process. Whenever I had questions about a specific aspect of the build, the foreman or one of the crew members would take the time to explain what was going on. When all was done, Morningstar Landscaping had provided us with a patio, hardscaping, landscaping, irrigation, stone and gravel, & masonry services for both our back yard and side yard. They built a retaining wall and patio space with landscape beds and fixed the pre-existing failing and inefficient irrigation lines feeding the beds with water-wise drip lines. They also repaired and rebuilt a stone staircase and fixed drainage that had previously been poorly made by a different provider. We now have a beautiful multilevel patio and landscape space, with safe and beautiful stone steps. I had dreamed of getting the backyard to look like a beautiful provencal style walking garden and now I have one. We now have enough space for entertaining and taking full advantage of our yard. And Jodi over-delivered on her promise by sending extra crew to the project to make up for some of the time lost to the rains and the work was completed in a little over 1 week instead of 2. I am truly impressed and plan to hire them again when I want to get any other part of the yard redone.

I contacted Morningstar in for an long overdue discussion of my backyard needs. Jodi contacted me about 3 days later and we met the following week. She immediately saw a vision and was very forthcoming in how the process works. So after I received the bid, we talked again and I got on their busy schedule for about 3 weeks later. From conception to construction to the final walk, the communication was great. They first removed a very sick and hazard tree. Then Her and her team created a beautiful covered pergola and stained it. Then they constructed a new patio with a kitchen for my big green egg that had no home before, benches at the corners of the design too and a very unique firepit (now I can smoke away all the mosquitos). The Masons were incredible to watch, very attentive to detail, the carpentry work on the pergola is absolutely beautiful and the posts on it are dressed up too so I can even set a drink on them. Her crew leader Darwin was great to work with, and Jodi was in constant communication and watchful eye on the project and weather. The guys covered up everything if it looked like rain, and even through this weather saw the clear days and had 2 full crews working to get it done. The stone she recommended turned out perfect, and the gravel french drain they installed in front of the patio sure did it's job and was tested for sure! Lastly they cleaned up the area and laid new sod and a few plants I picked up on my own. I was so happy to work with such a professional and I would highly recommend them. High quality of work for a very fair price.

Upon scheduling a time to meet with Jodi to provide a quote, she fell ill and had to cancel and asked to reschedule. This is totally reasonable and not an issue. About a week went by with no follow up, so I followed up with her. No response. I waiting another 5 days and followed up again. Never received a reply. Not the type of response one wants from a small business. Lots of positive reviews about the work Morningstar provides, but based on the poor lack of responsiveness I would not recommend and would not hire. Maybe there is just so much work to go around that it doesn't matter.

I recently hosted a birthday party for my neighbor, Richard Overton. Mr. Overton is 109 and the nation's oldest WWII vet. I knew this was going to be covered by all of the local news channels so I wanted my yard to be on point. Jodi and her crew to the rescue! They brought in all new mulch, replaced the victims of the winter, weeded the flower beds and yard. Everyone at the party noticed how awesome my yard looked. Every enhancement we have ever done to the yard has been with Jodi. And that is the way it will always be. People were calling me from other states to tell me they saw my yard on the news! So glad I used Jodi and her team. Even the Mayor Steve Adler complimented the yard and patio! Great job!!!

Jodi and her crew were fantastic. The whole experience could not have been better. I contacted Jodi and sent pictures of what I had at the time and told her that I wanted all of it replaced with a stone patio. She contacted me shortly after, asked for details and gave me an estimate. I gave her to go ahead and she told me that it would be about 6 weeks out before she could get to me which was fine since I was in no rush. As it turned out, it was only about 3 weeks before she began as she was able to work me in after another job not too far away from me. The week before the work began, Jodi came out and looked at the area that I wanted to be removed and replaced with a new stone patio. She knew what needed to be done and told me her ideas. The price was firmed up and was reasonable considering the amount of work that needed to be done. The workers came on time every day and worked all day. The master mason was very helpful and had good suggestions. His and his crews' masonry skills are exemplary. The crew were very detailed and dedicated to doing an outstanding job. Jodi checked in with me almost every day to let me know what to was on tap for the next day, i.e. landscape removal, concrete pouring, stone cutting and laying. etc. Everything went exactly as planned and the job was done in a week. The crew cleaned up everything perfectly and left no mess at all. They even re-sodded the area where the grass was worn down due to them having to haul stone, concrete, etc into the backyard. The patio is absolutely gorgeous! I do not think I could be happier. It is exactly what I wanted. The irrigation that was rerouted works perfectly and the sprinkler heads are placed in the right spots. The sod is doing fabulous as she is very picky about not only the stone that she will use but also the sod. Only the best! The paver pathway is awesome and looks so much better and is much more functional. The side flower bed looks 100% better with the gravel and stones instead of the overgrown brush that was there. Word has gotten around on my street and my neighbors are popping over to see my new patio and outdoor living area. Like me, they are so impressed with the beautiful patio and the workmanship and detail that went into the project. Morningstar did an outstanding job at not only landscape design but with landscape removal, masonry, paving, sod installation, irrigation and, of course, patio design and construction.

One expects a contractor to build with quality and for a reasonable price. One expects that the contractor will be responsive to the client, follow the timeline of the project and be professional at all times. It is difficult to find a contractor that fulfills this list of desired qualities. Jodi Phillips at Morning Star Landscaping was a most pleasant surprise. From the moment we contacted Jodi to bid on a complete redesign of our backyard she became a partner. Jodi worked with us on the design of the rock work and on the selection of plants. She put together a bid within the price range we had in mind while including all the features we wanted. The crew lead by Darwin worked from 9 to 5 very efficiently. We had a complex design for the rock work and both Jodi and Darwin followed up with us daily as the work progressed to make sure it was to our satisfaction. As the rock work was almost finished we felt that some areas in the original design needed to be modified. Normally this type of news is not very well received specially when it comes to completed rock work and it normally comes with a fee for the additional work. While the change was not minor, it was done at no cost. We made more than one change during the project. There was never any grumbling, no new charges. It was clear throughout the project that Jodi's intent is to satisfy the customer! Another important point to be make is that Jodi was always easy to reach and promptly responded to all questions. The rock work is done, the plants all in the ground and the backyard looks great. At the end of the project, Jodi was our contractor and also our friend. We plan to do a follow up project with Jodi later in the summer. Cannot have a higher recommendation than that.

Jodi is very energetic, responsive and had great ideas. The crew worked hard, quickly, and did quality work. There were a couple very minor things I wanted re-worked and they responded quickly without complaint. Jodi selected beautiful and healthy plants and trees for our project, and even rejected some plants that were delivered that didn't meet her standards. Everything they did looks great, and I'm very happy with the end result.

We are so happy with the result. The trees and beds look great and have really added to the curb appeal of our house. Jodi was great about communicating with us--very available for questions. She has a great team of guys working with her. We would definitely work with her again.

well, cant say enough great things about this service. this was phase two and three of the backyard. last year, Jodi and her team was able to the hardscaping for my backyard. recently they were able to come back to help finish it off my working with me on doing the landscaping piece. and man does the finish product looked great. Jodi educated me on the proper tree to put in the back yard and made sure they would get enough and not enough sun light. She also finished the borders for the beds for me to make sure it tied in nicely with the other work. she has then come back to lay all the wonderful plants in the bed to finish off the backyard. Now my backyard is finish and looks like the Oasis I wanted. and perfect timing too as I have my family from overseas coming in this week which Jodi knew about so she worked hard to fit it in her schedule to make sure it was all done by the time they showed up. Also another great thing is she keeps in touch with me to see how the plants and tress are going. she wants to make sure they are a huge success. Which is great because in the past I killed anything that was green! :) SO in the the end I would highly recommend Jodi and her crew. She listened to my vision and took her expertise and helped transformed my backyard into my oasis. Thanks Jodi!!

I couldn't wait for Jodi to come back and make my backyard look even more beautiful. Last year she did some hardscaping for me and I love my new patio. So this time around, I needed 6 more trees, to cover my back fence and hide the back of my neighbors house. Jodi sent me the names of different tree varieties and explained how each one grew. Together we picked out the types of trees, but honestly, I just went with what she suggested because she is the professional and knows her stuff. She got them in the ground within a week, even in the cold weather! She also planted more perennials, cleaned up all the beds, and mulched, so the area has definitely gotten a much needed face lift. She also suggested transplanting several vines to the other side of the yard, so they took care of that also. Jodi and her crew are fantastic to work with and are extremely popular. She is so knowledgeable about all varieties of plants and comes up with great designs for flower beds and patios! She is definitely worth the wait, so get on her schedule now!

My experience with Jodi was amazing from the start. After contacting her by email with a few pictures of my backyard and a brief description of what I was looking for, Jodi responded right away and we set up a time for her to stop by the house to take a look the very next day. She gave me plenty of ideas of things we could do and after she left texted me several pictures of her past projects as examples of things she thought would work well in my yard. We went back and forth for a few days and she worked with me to figure out a way to do everything I wanted and stay within my budget. She even helped me figure out how to deal with getting approval from our HOA. Once we decided on a final plan for the project, Jodi sent me everything I needed to turn in to the HOA right away. I received HOA approval on a Friday and Jodi and her team were ready to work on Monday! I couldn't believe how quickly things were moving since I'd heard horror stories about projects like this dragging on for months. Her team is very fast but they don't skimp on quality. I was amazed to see that the patio was near completion in a matter of days.The total project was completed within 2 weeks, and it only took that long because of weather delays beyond anyone's control! I really enjoyed working with Jodi because not only is she passionate about what she does, but she's down to earth and does everything she can to make sure her customers are happy and within budget. I've already started talking to Jodi about more things we can do in the backyard down the line. Her enthusiasm is contagious and I can't wait to see what she and her team can do next!

As always the quality of work surpassed my expectations. Jodi and crew have been taking care of my yard and landscaping for over a year now. We didn't get too many freezing temps this winter, but the few we had killed a few of my plants and made a mess in my landscape. Jodi and her guys came over and worked their magic. Cleaned out all the beds, pruned back and the dead branches, replaced the dead plants... weeded the entire yard- by hand! One of her guys, Juan, has been with her for 12 years. That speaks volumes of her as the owner of this company. I love Morningstar Landscaping! We have already discussed re-doing my front yard so I will post some before and after pics for that big project. Call Jodi!

Jodi and her team did a great job removing a large tree stump in my front yard along with a smaller (but still sizeable) tree in my back yard. They will be back in about a month to put in sod and plants and I can't wait to see the final results! My yard already looks 100% better and they were a pleasure to work with.

Everything went great! Came out and did a site survey, got me a quote a few days later then started shortly after. Everything went smooth, her crew was courteous and cleaned up after themselves. Her head guy Darwin, was extremely knowledgeable and nice to work with. I would definitely recommend them to friends and family.

This was our second time working with Jodi, and everything turned out so well. She is easy to work with and has a great team. The estimate was accurate and teh work was completed on schedule (with a few weather delays--that's what happens in January!). Jodi has a great eye for design, and she gave us great advice about what to do to remove grass in our front yard. We are so happy with the work and have been getting lots of compliments from neighbors.

Everything went great. Jodi came over in the beginning to work with me on my vesion of my backyard and what I was hoping to get out of it. She took that and expertise to come up with a great plan for my backyard. the team she brought to do the work was fantastic. all of the workers were very friendly and professional. they always made sure to keep me in the loop and always gave me an update at the end of the day on the status of the project. Mother nature wasn't the nicest to us during this project but Jodi and her team always kept me well informed the days theey were able to work. they even worked on the weekends to catch up to get keep the project on time due to all the rain we had those weeks. in the end, we are very pleased with the outcome. everything looks great and you can see no corners were taken. We look forward to working on further projects with Jodi and her team to keep turning our backyard into the oasis we are after. thanks!!

I have been a delighted and satisfied client of Jodi and the Morningstar team for close to two years now. Every time they come over for a project, they exceed my expectations. Recently, I had my flower beds cleaned along with the addition of fall color plants and new mulch. They also added gravel to the side of my driveway being that it is a weird spot and I do not want anything there to maintain. She planted new trees and added a stone border to match the previous stone work they did for me. They also power-washed my patio and added an enhancement sealant to make the colors in the stone really pop! I am so proud of my back yard and patio! I cannot say enough good things about Jodi and her guys. 2 years later and I still could not ask for a better landscaping team to work with. They work very h****** their jobs and give their full attention to their projects. This sometimes can cause a backup for them. So even if you call and they can't see you for a few weeks, it is totally worth the wait!

As most of Morningstar's reviews, Jodi is wonderful to work with and I am so happy with the outcome. I sent an email to Jodi, pleading for her help for my pitiful yard. I wanted to enjoy going outside and not have to stay on the tiny patio the builder had put in. Jodi responded immediately, in fact at 4:30am the next morning and assured me she could make the yard inviting. I knew when I contacted her that this time of the year is extremely busy. So I was patient and in a few weeks she came to the house to give me ideas. She said it might be a couple of weeks before they could start and sure enough, she was right on target. Once they started, she was in contact with me daily, keeping me informed along the way. The job was done in the time frame she said and they even worked the entire weekend. I was so impressed. Her crew were professional and did a great job of cleaning everything up. Jodi came up with a fabulous plan of totally covering the old patio, with a design I just love and had several stones I could choose from. She also suggested I put gravel in another area where I wanted to get rid of the grass and it matched perfectly with the stone. Then she created a flower bed and landscaped it with some beautiful plants with color that really makes that area pop. They then built a small masonry wall that encloses the area and put a nice touch to the area. I will definitely have Jodi come back to finish landscaping the rest of the yard. I thought I could do it myself, but after seeing how well she designs, and her professionalism, there is no way I would trust anyone else. I now love to go outside to water and I can't wait to begin decorating the patio with flower pots and furniture. Thanks again Jodi!
