We contacted Austin Fine Floors based on a recommendation from our Realtor. We first visited the south Austin showroom to get an idea of the flooring colors and wood species they carried, and met with Jean to discuss an in-home consultation. Ryan came by for a measurement and with some samples, and we discussed the plans we had to replace basically everything on the ground floor with engineered hardwood. A few days later, Jean came by the house with more samples, and spent a great deal of time discussing pros and cons of various wood species that would match (or at least clash least) with our layout, existing furniture, and woodwork. We settled on a wood that we had seen online but hadn't appreciated until viewing in person, and signed the contract for installation.
Less than three weeks later the lumber was in and we got a call from Roger to schedule the demolition and install. We had planned on having a bit more time to prepare, but Roger noted a space in the install schedule that would allow demo to begin the very next day, if we could be ready. We spent the afternoon and evening before the demo day moving everything from downstairs to upstairs or to the garage, and prepared the house as best we could for the demo.
The crew arrived promptly in the early morning on the day of demolition, and immediately got to work. Big furniture that could not be moved to the garage was wrapped securely in painter's plastic, and the appliances and kitchen cabinets were also sealed. The stairs were sealed as well, to minimize as much as possible dust getting into places it didn't belong. The tile was a challenge for the crew to remove, and the slab was not as level as they would have hoped, but after adding extra leveling cement the demo was done in three days.
Install began on time on the first weekday after the demo was completed, and went smoothly. The stairs in our house are central-core stairs that have a 180 degree twist with two landings, so that required a great deal of custom cutting. The upstairs landing is
also a complicated layout, requiring more custom cutting. The crew never complained and were nothing less than consummate professionals. It was a pleasure to come home every day and see progress, even though we were living in a construction zone for two weeks.
Once the stairs were finished, the new baseboards were installed. We had thought baseboards were included in the original estimate, but that was not the case. The new baseboards look great, and they were the right call, but it was an added expense to the install. The main lesson there is to be as clear as possible when going over the original details of the install to make sure everything is covered. If any questions, ask!
The floors were done in less than two work weeks. We went from tile and carpet on the ground floor to no tile anywhere except the upstairs bathrooms, and no carpet anywhere except the upstairs bedrooms. We love the way the floors look, and people who have visited since they were installed remark how well they match the existing stair rails and our furniture. We are very pleased with the quality of the work and would recommend Austin Fine Floors to anyone who is looking to install wood floors in their home.

Austin Fine Floors did an amazing job!  Yes - they were more expensive than other providers we looked at, but they say "you get what you pay for" and with Austin Fine Floors we certainly did.  Our flooring was installed quickly and beautifully and other than a slight hiccup in scheduling for getting the carpet installed, everything went off without a hitch.  The installers at Austin Fine Floors do a great job and take pride in their work and it shows!

I wish I could rate an A plus since this company earned it. Chase Carpeting had botched my job so I went to Austin Fine Floors. No pressure sales, they actually let you check out more than postage size swatches, and the installation was excellent. Their installer Benito is a perfectionist. And the carpet installation is beautiful! It is amazing that all their employees speak English, which is a challenge in the contracting / remodeling business in Austin. No fear of miscommunication with their employees. I couldn't be happier with their work !

Once we were able to get a date for install everything went very smooth. The crew was extremely professionally and knowledgeable. We were very impressed with the quality of workmanship and the attention to detail. They had to come out on Saturday to finish but were able to get everything done in a reasonable time frame. We would use them again and would recommend them to all of my friends and real estate clients.

The team they sent arrived early and immediately set to work moving furniture, removing carpet and preparing the floor for the hardwood installation. They were courteous and professional. The job was completed as requested and looks perfect. They asked pertinent questions regarding the alignment of the flooring and polished it whe the installation was completed. They cleaned up everything and moved all of the furniture back into place.

I feel like I FINALLY found a company that cares about their costomers and the quality of work they do! Over the past few years we have been doing some updating to our home and up until this project I was just under the impression you have to settle for bad workmanship in this town. Everyone just seems to want to make a quick buck and get out of there. I went to Austin Fine Floors because of a recommendation from a friend. She told me to contact Dale Miller from AFF. She knew him because he goes to our church and has done work for them. I knew when I met him I had made the right choice. He listened to what I wanted and gave me samples he thought would work and we would like. I narrowed it down and but couldn't make a decision. He came by my home to help me with my decision (he is good with colors and has been in the business for a long time) and collected the carpet samples from me to save me a trip. He also listened and looked at the bad carpet install from another company 3 years ago and said his installers could fix it. The installers we had were amazing! They were very clean and polite and I felt very comfortable being home alone with them here. They were very careful moving my furniture and they even stepped back when the job was complete to make sure it was all done correctly. They did a wonderful job of cleaning up after themselves as well. The installation manager, Roger Bolen, also stopped by to see how the project was going and even stopped by the next day to make sure we were happy!! That is customer service that is so hard to find these days. I highly recommend Dale, Roger and this crew of installers.

Austin Fine Floors is the "go to" resource for many of Austin's finest builders ... they are more interested in product selection assistance, product quality and installation quality than a slightly higher price. Their prices are reasonable, but they are not Home Depot or Lowe's.
Dale Miller is a class act ... professional; the finished selection and installation will have that "luxury home" feeling.
This is my second project with Austin Fine Floors, and I am an extremely demanding client. If you have a home near or over a million, Dale and his crew are the resource to use.

We decided not to replace the front porch floor with brick and I wanted something a little snazzier, like a Texas star medallion. Austin Fine Floors was recommended by my neighbor as a company that did fine work, with service a cut above the rest.
The salesperson at Austin Fine Floors helped me find just the right tiles to make my Texas Star medallion, and handled all the details of ordering, etc. The first star was not successful because the company that did the actual cutting of the pieces did a poor job. Eventually, Austin Fine Floors provided an installer that was genius and the cutting of the pieces was perfect. My Texas Star is gorgeous and I have the greatest front porch floor around -- very tasteful, but nicely snazzy.
I cannot praise Austin Fine Floors enough for sticking with my vision and patiently trying to provide me with exactly what I wanted.
I give them my highest recommendation -- Great Company!

The installation was quality was great, and the installation was very timely. It was the followup details that gave us problems. At the time of the installation, some adjacent tile flooring was not installed, so we needed thresholds installed at a later date. It took a few attempts to get them to come out, and one threshold was never installed. In all fairness, I didn't keep asking for service--I tried twice and gave up. The carpet installers were a bit sloppy with the carpet stretcher when placed against the hardwood baseboards: small scratches and white marks were all over the trim. I re-finished the trim to remove them.

Overall we rate the experience poorly. The installers had to be watched closely because they put down the carpet sections in a couple of areas incorrectly. The carpet installation also produced a hugh number of "pops" as we walked on the new carpet like you were walking on bubble wrap. Had to call them out numerous times after installation to fix. An area in the bedroom also showed a strong seam line which they never fixed after numerous calls. In general due to the poor response to service requests to repair items from their installation we do not recommend this company.

The porch was tiled 9/28/10. The medallion and overall tile quality are outstanding. The gentleman who did the tile work was a master artist. First, he had to hack away at some leftover cement blobs from the demolision to make everything smooth and flat; then he fitted every piece of the medallion to insure it was gorgeous and perfect. The tile background also looks great. For real service, above and beyond, Austin Fine Floors came through. I'm thrilled with the work.

This story should have ended well with repeat business for Austin Fine Floors, but they cut corners on material and they were outrageously unresponsive in resolving relatively minor problems. --- The advice from most hardwood information sources I consulted was: add 5% extra wood to the required floor space to allow for some scrap due to imperfections in the natural wood. ----- I prefered to get the wood and installation from the same company. For comparisson I obtained material prices from hardwood brokers and installation prices from contractors. I was expecting and willing to pay a premium to have one company supply the wood, do the installation and take responsibility for the job. ---- Retailer Selection: This happened before I joined Angies List - so I was on my own and there was little information available. The price from Austin Fine Floors was about the same as the broker and installer prices I'd compiled. I chose to go with Austin Fine Floors. ---- Installation: The wood was delivered about 2wks before the install - this allowed the wood to acclimatize to local humidity. The installers were prompt and courteous and they did a good job. The installation was wrapped up in a single day and the work site was cleaned up nicely. ---- Problems: There were about 10sqft of wood leftover or 1.25% of 800sqft - considerably short of the recommended 5% (Austin Fine Floors did not say they would allow 5% for scrap - but it's unprofessional not to do so - it'll be obvious why in a moment). The first 2 rooms installed look beautiful and I'm very happy with them. By the 3rd room the installers couldn't be so choosy with the boards they used because the supply was dwindling. Several boards in the 3rd room have obvious flaws - one board was cracked. ---- Problem Resolution (This is where the wheels fell off) The AFF salesman dropped by to inspect the job, we showed him the problems in the third room. He agreed there was a problem and arranged for the wood manufacturer to drop by The cracked board was chiseled-out and replaced (subsequently the new board cracked as well). The wood manufacturer (BR-111) agreed there was a problem. (So-far so-good). At this point the salesman we'd been dealing with left AFF. Despite numerous telephone calls to AFF and AFF management we never heard from them again. Even an offer to have them supply/install 1200sqft of carpet if they'd work with us was ignored - amazing!!!

I went there because with laminate wood the installation is important. They carry very high quality stuff. You do pay a little more money, but they did work with me on the price. The installer was incredible. He took a week to put the floor in. He did a fabulous job. He was very meticulous and cleaned up after himself. He was very easy to get along with. The floors look great! He was extremely careful and gave me the do's and don'ts of how to take care of it. He found a very slight leak that had just started to cause the wood on the baseboard to swell a little bit. The plumbers that came out had to knock out some of the floor and the wall. He worked around them and when they were finished he showed up to work the next day to fix my wall board. He wouldn't take any extra money for it.
