Neither my AC nor heater were responding. The prior visit resolved my heater not working but when I tried a couple of months later to run my AC it worked for a few hours then stopped. Neither heater nor AC would respond. There was a burnt electronic odor coming from the furnace/AC fan unit. I called A+ and a tech was out that same day. He was able to pinpoint all the problems and resolved them very quickly. The tech was very professional and was easy. to work with. There was a part that was needed and the tech was able to get it and install it within the hour. I am currently unemployed and all it took was a phone call to get the bill lowered. Now both the heater and AC unit are working. I would and do highly recommend this company not only because the owner is a personal friend but because of the excellent work performed by their field repair techs and their willingness to work with the customer
Description of Work: Heater circuit board and AC Unit connector were replaced. Re-wiring was performed on the AC unit.

Just a word of warning, there web site states free estimates but when I called they only do free estimates if they are going to do a fairly major repair or replacement. All they would do for me was a very rough quote over the phone.
Description of Work: I didn't have any services performed. I called to see about getting a free estimate as stated on their web site.

Thank you for the comments, but I have researched our web site and could not find anywhere that it says we do free estimates for service. We do come out and give a free system estimate if the system is over 10 years old. For service repairs, we charge a flat rate diagnostic and give you an estimate for the repairs. We cannot diagnose over the phone and therefore try to avoid misleading customers. Our prices are fair and our service is A-Plus!! We have excellent service technicians who will come to your home and thoroughly diagnose the system to see what's wrong with it. From there, they will give you a price to repair it. Once repaired, they will re-evaluate the system to be sure it's working properly. We don't increase the repair cost to cover a free diagnostic as other companies may do. We always do a diagnostics to make sure we know what the problem is, we don't take another companies word for it, that way we can stand behind our work. Had the caller said go to tab "X" and you can see it says free estimates for service, we would have gladly honored his request, even if it was a misprint. The only place I saw "free estimate" was a promo page tab that says "Free estimate on new Lennox System".

They were here on 5th December. The problem was not solved the first time and they walked away with everything in working condition. They said it would work but it didn’t last and the second time it worked. The total for the 2 visits was about $125. They just got right on the job and didn’t waste time. They took care of it and when I called them back they realized they didn’t fix it so they got the same guy out pretty quickly and later that same day and he solved it. The first time it was a mystery but when he left he had done things and it wasn’t working but the second time he nailed it. I was not upset the first time but they responded quickly the second time.

Called for assistance to just have my duct work checked for efficiency-they were not interested in doing that and wanted to sell the package where they would seal the ducts for a city rebates. They did not listen to my request- as I have a new system and wanted to check to see if it was preforming adequately- Told them I was not selling the house- so I did not need the city ECAD audit and just wanted the duct work pressure tested. They wanted to put me into a program where there were city rebates for new and repaired duct work. They actually sounded to busy for my little request.

I want to thank the member for expressing his concerns. I was out of town and Debi must have misunderstood his concerns. We do provide for testing duct leakage and charge a fee for that. Debi was not trying to sell anything, but offer a free visual inspection to see if sealing the ducts were necessary. If they had not been sealed, then offer to test the ducts and charge for it and present the rebates. A-Plus is a pioneer in the duct testing field and was an original contractor doing the testing for Austin Energy for many years. We continue to be at the leading edge of testing ducts for leakage and performance and getting the maximum air flow possible. We carry several residential and commercial certifications in air balancing. When I returned to town, I tried to call, but I was unable to reach the member because no phone number was left and I could not get a good telephone number “googling” him. We do small jobs and large jobs, size does not matter and I am sorry the memberdrew the conclusion he did. Once again, my apologies for the misunderstanding. Greg

Our two issues were that the tech had pretty bad body odor - understandable since it was in the 80's but still not very pleasant - and that the price the other guys charged for fixing it right was only about $450, compared to $171 for a temporary fix. Seems like they would benefit from just giving customers the hard truth...
Description of Work: We had an air conditioner go out on a Thursday night, and called A-Plus on Friday when our regular HVAC service was unavailable due to a phone outage. They were not able to come that day, but we scheduled an appt for Monday. The tech showed up at the appointed time, checked the thermostat, condenser and the fan. He reported that the fan motor had seized up, and we *might* need to get it replaced at some point. However, he was able to get it unfrozen and spinning again. That lasted about a day when it stopped again. We called our regular people back and they fixed the problem.

Thank you for your overall good comments. Regarding the two issues, first being price. After reviewing the signed invoice, I noticed that the customer was given 2 repair choices. One was a temporary repair for $97.00 and the other was to replace the motor for $374. The customer declined replacing the motor and chose the temporary repair. Please note that with the $74 diagnostic fee, the replacement motor would have only been $445, which was slightly less than he paid the other company. Had we been notified the next day to let us know the temporary repair didn't last, we would have given the customer credit for the temporary repair and taken care of the problem with the replacement motor. We're sorry the customer was disappointed, but we feel we did due diligence by giving the customer multiple choices and sorry the choice he made was not the long lasting choice. In addition, had the customer used the 15% discount coupon we have in Angie's List, the repair would have been less. The second issue was the technicians body odor. I did notice this service call was the last call of the day, and although body odor is not pleasant, it's understandable after working in hot attics and hot temperatures outside all day. We have never had a comment about that before, and have brought this to the technicians attention. We always appreciate customer feedback, it helps us with our goal of 100% customer satisfaction!!

Our air conditioning unit shut down Sunday night and they came Monday morning around 9am. Problem was fixed immediately. Technician (John) was excellent. Very happy with the whole process, from receptionist to tech guy.
Description of Work: The service tech came out to appraise the condition of an AC and Furnace that had been shut down for two years and were pretty old. He quoted me 147 to check them both out, and another 60 to crawl through the attic and check the integrity of the ducts. Turns out the furnace was emitting CO, so it had to be shut down. He did not charge for inspecting it, just a lesser charge for a CO test. The crawlspace was too tiny for a human to get up there (thanks, builder!) so we tested the integrity of the duct by measuring airflow, and he didn't charge me at all for the duct stuff. I wound up spending less than I planned and found that the AC was working and the heater was dangerous - so it was good information for a good price. My bedroom is cool again, and I can toss the noisy window unit I was using.

A/C was not running efficiently. Called on Wednesday night, and was told that someone would call to schedule an appointment. Had a technician come out first thing the next morning. Determined that we were low on freon. Said he could do a leak check, or simply refill the freon since the leak was so slow. We discussed possible replacement down the road, and he remarked that our unit was very mismatched. Opted for the freon refill this time around. Technician was very informative, and nice to speak with, as well. Would call on them again, for sure.

We had no heat, they came out in a couple of hours, diagnosed the problem, came back an hour or two later with the part and fixed it. $375, but fast, efficient and professional. I was particularly comfortable with them because 2 or 3 yrs ago our AC shut off on a ~100 degree day, even as a new customer they came within a couple of hours. Our system was ~13 years old then and I expected some bad news. They came out so quickly I was still online looking for a good deal on a hotel, as I expected to have to replace the system. They replaced a switch(had it with them) and the total cost was $25 for the switch plus $50 for the call and labor. Total of $75, believe me, that was great news in the middle of the summer with no AC and 2 young kids.......

First, I want to say that I've become a tough customer. I've been burned by accepting the lowest estimates, so now I go with higher estimates if I can tell that I'll get top notch service and quality of work. I thought that was going to be the case here. I accepted their estimate of $550 plus their estimate fee of about $75 for expert advice. I felt good about it because Mr. Yamin was very professional and seemed to know exactly what needed doing. Overall, not counting the bad work and service I received later, I overpaid by about $150 in my opinion for adding one 40ft. duct to the plenum. My first encounter with A Plus, was a missed call back about a month earlier. The very kind receptionist, Debbie, misquoted my phone number. I had to call them back a couple days later to talk about my problem. Not a big deal. I waited a few weeks then called back again to have them come out for the estimate. Mr. Yamin came out and suggested putting a new duct in and running it from the plenum top straight to the room. He mentioned that I have the old gray ductwork (about 30 years old now) and we talked about how it breaks down over the years and is much less efficient. The new silver stuff is much better, he explained. I agreed to his estimate (which was about $175 higher than a less professional contractor that came out a week prior). Mr. Yamin took an estimate fee by check to his own name for his consultation, and he scheduled the work with A Plus. The consultation fee was knocked off total of the work being done bringing it down to $556 remaining. Two guys came out and did the work in about an hour or so. I went up and noticed that they only replaced about 20 ft. or so with the new, silver duct and used my old duct for the remaining run. I asked the technician, and he said something about it not being in too bad of shape. That didn't sit well with me considering that Mr. Yamin and I talked about how the gray duct breaks down and considering the high cost I was already paying. In addition, the room was not getting any more air. I called to complain, and after a bit of debate, they sent the same two technicians out the next week. They came back out and replaced that old run of duct. We took a reading in the bedroom to measure the airflow (this was not offered the first time they came out). It was about 68 and should be in the 80s. The technician had no other solutions to increase it. As they were leaving, I went up and looked around. I noticed they had the new duct crimped over from the top of the plenum as it came down. I'm no expert but anyone would assume that's not good for airflow. I pointed it out to the technician and he said, "I can put a strap on that for you." Not, "oh yeah, I meant to strap that." But, more like, "well, since you found it..." He strapped it up to remove the crimp and then they left. I could feel a great deal more air from the bedroom register after that, but it was not remeasured. Debbie called to check in, and I let her know about the strap issue. Then the other technician called and left me a message apologizing for his partner missing the strap. The day after that, my son and I were on the driveway and I noticed a whole bunch of rat droppings right in the middle of the driveway. The previous owners of the house had a rat problem and they apparently got into that old ductwork. When the technicians removed the old duct, they must have dumped all the droppings out of the duct and onto the driveway or swept them from the garage out into the driveway. I also found a neatly swept pile of them in the corner of the garage, and our broom was not where we keep it. Apparently A Plus doesn't have a plan for proper cleanup when removing ductwork. So considering 1) they didn't replace the whole run of duct, 2) they didn't strap the duct up until I caught it, and 3) they didn't clean up properly -- I give them a solid D.
Description of Work: We had a room that was warmer than the others. We need to change/fix duct work to supply the room with more or colder air.

Even though it was buried in the member’s report, the technicians did admit their shortcomings and called to apologize for missing the crimped duct and doing a less than perfect job. They had no excuse for rat droppings because they weren’t even aware they had fallen out. Our goal is a perfect job every time. We fell short – but we stood behind our guarantee and returned to do the job correctly. A good company is not necessarily the cheapest, but one who stands behind their work!

My wife contacted this company after reviewing an excellent profile here on Angie's list. Mr. Yamin told her that if any work was done, the diagnostic charge of $60 would be refunded. I heard this phone call, and remember her specifically asking for verification, as we had already paid another diagnostic to another company, and did not want to be charged again for nothing. Subsequently Mr. Yamin has accused my wife of lying about this conversation. I assure you, she is *never* incorrect about free stuff. Mr. Yamin came out to do the diagnostic and told me that we needed a new duct to the master bedroom and some dampers on existing ducts. Fair enough, I wrote a check out to him personally for the diagnostic fee and we scheduled the work several days later. The workers came out, Gilbert and another I can't remember, they were great - honest and quick. After a few minutes talking with them, we realized we quite likely didn't need the duct proposed by Mr. Yamin, and had the dampers installed alone. While this was considerably cheaper, it has fixed the problem, and we don't have an extra hole in our bedroom ceiling. Subsequently, my wife contacted A-Plus in an attempt to get our refund. She was rebuffed on every turn. In one last conversation, I asked Mr. Yamin where it stated in writing that we had to have all of the work done in its entirety, in order to get the refund, and Mr. Yamin responded asking where it was written that we would get it for partial work. At this point I was being practically yelled at (by the owner, of course). My phone (new 4G iphone) then cut us off. I called back within seconds, was told he had left the office. Eventually Mr. Yamin left a message saying that he never promised a refund on partial work and that "no one in their right mind would refund a diagnostic" on so little work, that my wife was lying, and that the other company which we paid the diagnostic to had good reason to not work with us. In truth, his diagnostic was overpriced, and his personal behavior was belligerent to my wife. His technicians were great, and I would hire them again in an instant, were they working for someone else. Their diagnostic was better than his, and their work quick and effective. Since this time, Sharon (Mr. Yamin's wife and office manager, I presume from our experiences there) has made good on the original promise and wrote a very nice letter acknowledging that they could have been more clear in the pricing policy and refunding our diagnostic. Definitely sound business principles here. As stated above, I would use them again, they did fix our issues, and we eventually found a middle ground.
Description of Work: This is an update of a prior report. The details are below. Basically there was a discrepancy on the refunding of a diagnostic fee, and A-Plus recently made good on the promise, and will be more clear about their policies in this area in the future. The A/C changes continue to work well for us, and we definitely do have more balanced cooling through the house. Despite the difficulties we had, I would use this company again, and I expect we would have a better experience the second time around.

So, on sat evening, I noticed that my a/c unit downstairs was working but really not cooling. I figured it needed freon refill. Called this company since it was on top of Angies list on Sunday morning fully preparing to leave a voice message, but was surprised to see it answered by a lady. She mentioned a technician would be there later, followed by a call from manager confirming the appt and than person called me before arrival. So he came as promised and filled freon, but then charged me 191 to do that quoting overtime charges. I realize that I should have expected that charge, but being very preoccupied and also being so confident with my previous angies list choices, I did not really ask him specifically if he charges extra for sundays. So I was not very happy with the fact that the scheduling lady , the manager on duty and the technician who each spoke to me prior to appointment, NOT even once mentioned "overtime charges".. I could have waited till Monday easily (since we have 2 units). I have no issues with them having a overtime fee. Its just that they did not mentione it one time. ON spekaing to the manager, he claims they advertise it clearly in EVERY place. So I went back to Angies listing and there is NO mentione of sunday overtime charges. And I went back to their website and under hours, it states the hours (which does not mention sunday) and states in upper case bold, red letters "NO OVERTIME CHARGES".... I am not upset because of the charge, but because they did not mention it and manager claims its clearly advertised in every place. Even without the overtime, I have never in the past paid this much to get my freon changed. So next time, I will be smart and do comparisons instead of picking the first choice on Angies.
Description of Work: Added Freon.

We are sorry that this member did not have an A+ experience. When a customer calls, we do not quote rates unless asked. However, we never mislead anyone. I am surprised that he would not have asked-especially for Sunday service, after all we pay our Techs to work "after hours" to offer our customers fast & convienent service . On our website that is accessed from Angie's List, it does say "No Overtime Charges". However it also says (which he left out) we have no overtime charges M-F 8 am to 6:30 pm & Sat 8am to 3pm.Our overtime rates happen to be about the same price as many of our competetors regular rates - only $89 flat rate to come to the house and diagnose the problem. Our R-410 "puron" charge includes both labor and material wrapped into one charge - we had to add several lbs. We also offered him the opportunity to find the leak & possibly repair it. We always make the offer since we know that if you don't repair the leak, it will continue to leak. The customer declined the leak search & repairs. Later that evening, the mgr "on call" called the member & went over the repair situation & again he declined a repair even for another day. He was obsessed with the fact that he paid extra on a Sunday & wasn't open to any discussion. Again we are sorry he did not have an A-Plus experience. We offered excellent service at a reasonable price on a 90+ degree Sunday. We appreciate his business.

Greg Yamin came to the house and reviewed various options with me including duct work, brands of units and air flow recommendations. Greg has worked with the city of Austin rebate program and gave information regarding that option. He explained the process in detail and patiently answered all of my questions. The office staff called me the next day to schedule the installation. The technicians arrived on time on the day of installation, were professional and very pleasant to work with. Work began at 8:00 a.m. and was completed by 2:00 p.m. The technicians worked very diligently the entire time. They put a tarp down and cleaned up after installation. Upon completion, a very detailed set of paperwork was reviewed with me. It included information regarding extended warranty information, city rebate information and federal income tax paperwork. Debi (in the office) is fantastic and is available to answer any question one might have. A letter of thanks was included. I highly recommend this company. My experience was great.
Description of Work: Replaced both the airconditioner and heater.

The exterior unit of my A/C just stopped turning on. I got A+ from Angie's List and called them first thing in the morning and they sent someone the same day.. Frank arrived at 3:15, and it seemed the problem was just dead batteries in the thermostat. Replacing the batteries got the outdoor unit working again, but he also checked the Freon level, the a few other things. Thought we were okay, but next day, I noticed it getting hot, and realized the outdoor unit was off again. Thinking I may have used old batteries, I put in new ones, but still not working. I called A+ again at around 6:30 p.m., and got a call back first thing next morning. They made me the first appt of the day, and Frank came back, replaced the thermostat, checked the drainage pipes, cleaned them out. I was very happy with their responsiveness, returning phone calls and getting same-day appts, very important when it's so hot and the AC is out.
Description of Work: First visit: identified dead batteries in my thermostat causing problems, but checked freon level and other stuff. 2nd visit, replaced thermostat and cleared out the drainage pipes.

Very pleased with the punctuality of the service and how quickly he was able to get it working. Was also pleased that he spent some time with her making sure she understood the system and how to set it properly.
Description of Work: My wife's mother-in-law, the customer is 87 years old and her AC wasn't working. We found A-Plus on Angie's List with an A rating and called them. The dispatcher agreed to send someone out immediately and the repairman was there within an hour. He found that someone who had done some roofing had done something to the AC unit that was keeping it from working. He showed Grandma how to look for this in the future if it ever occurs again so she'd know what happened. Then he spent time with her to make system and make sure the thermorstat settings were in the right place. Grandma is very pleased and thought the repairman was very nice and professional.

We started out with them and bought a contract and they come out twice a year after that and check everything. I think they are very honest and they do not over charge. They don't try to sell you something that you don't need. I would grade them A's on all categories.
Description of Work: We've used A-Plus for years and their last visit was in September to check the heater.

From the first of many calls to David, he was friendly, professional, helpful and very responsive to our needs. He took the time to do call the manufacturer and helped us navigate warranty issues. Donald came out and was very nice, professional and did the work in less hours than was originally expected. High marks for both of them!!
