My wife woke up at around 4am and there was water on the floor in the bathroom. I called Ernie's Plumbing at 7am, when they first opened, and they arrived promptly (around 9am). The representative, Fred Theiss, took care of the leak along with several other plumbing issues we had. Fred provided a full explanation of all the work he did, and he went out of his way to make sure my needs were taken care of. My wife requested a gold handle. Fred didn't have that on hand, but he made phone calls to find a place where they carried that handle, and went to pick it up, then proceeded to install it. As he left, he introduced the warranty, which covered everything for an entire year. We ended up purchasing that warranty. Once the representative left, we received a phone call from the office to follow up with our experience, which was nice. The price was very competitive and reasonable. I've used them several times over the past several years. I would highly recommend this company to anyone for any plumbing needs. We were very pleased with this service.

We had a bathroom faucet that started dripping a few months ago, and it finally got to the point where it was running at a slow rate constantly. Much more than a leak. We had Ernie's come out an give us an estimate, which was $197.50. We had to wait a few days for the money to come in to get the work done. When we called, they had an appointment available between 12 and 5pm. Within a half hour we got a call that the tech was on his way. He arrived within 5 or10 minutes. He immediately set to work replacing the seats and washers on both handles of the faucet. (Only one was leaking but you need to replace both at the same time.. it just makes sense) It took about twenty minutes, and he cleaned up after himself. This was almost a moth ago, and the faucet is working fine. Ernie's had worked on our kitchen sink a year ago and did a great job then. We have another $35.00 coupon and plan to have them back out soon to replace our kitchen faucet.

The plumber explained exactly what the problem was. He also detailed the possible solutions. In other words, if he was unable to clear the clog on his on from outside, it would be necessary to call in a second technician to assist. I apologize for taking so long to respond, because I don't remember names or too many details. I do remember that the less expensive work was completed, and I have had no further problems. I also remember that I got a follow-up call from Ernie's asking if I had been satisfied with the service. I was.

I was not particularly happy with them. The guy came out and checked my gas. He said that he thought that it was in my oven. I asked him how he was sure about it. To make sure, he called the city and I called the city too. We misrepresented the call from the city. He told me that the city told him something. He was flabbergasted that I too talked to the city guy. He then told me to talk to his boss. I spoke to his boss and his boss took the ownership of the call. The guy kept running out of the supplies he needed. He went to Home Depot three times during the course of the job. I forced them to lower the bill by almost $200. I will not call him again. He got the issue with oven fixed; the gas leak had not been in the oven. The leak was still there. I told him to come and fix a problem under my sink, when he was just standing outside for half an hour before he could certify that the leak was fixed. He was not happy that I made him do it, though he fixed the problem under my sink. They were overpriced and they lied to me. He broke a light in my oven. The gas company fixed that. Other than that their work was of pretty good quality.

Response from Ernie's Plumbing Service Inc
Typically no one is happy when they have any type of household problem and in this instance our customer was not happy about having to change out the copper lines on her oven. Currently plumbing codes require approved gas stops and flex lines. These must be at all gas supplied fixtures. She called the city and spoke to someone that was not an inspector and was misled by that person. When she learned that we would have to change the parts at her oven and bring it up to code in order to make the repairs. She then became very agitated with the entire problem and we took the brunt of her anger. She was already upset and that just made the problem worse. We did try our best to work with her and as she said we discounted the bill by $200.00, just to try to help her out. A week later, at no cost to her, we went out and worked on her garbage disposal although we had not ever touched it before. Although we tried and tried to make our mutual customer happy we just couldn't please her.

In the beginning we had scheduling problems & weather problems. He was not exactly professional, hiring extremely young assistants and smelling up the bathroom after using it & once playing music loudly, but the job got done. We had to help him at some points and he was not always equipped for the day- he had to make a trip to Home Depot at one point so not exactly utilizing time. He was however good at problem solving when we came upon challenges. Overall, the price was reasonable for the job & it was eventually completed sufficiently.

Our toilet began leaking between the tank and the commode. First visit/first tech installed a new tank and stressed that IF it began leaking the work was guaranteed. Made me wonder. Sure enough it began leaking the next day. Same tech called me back and said I had said I did not want to buy a matching tank and toilet but that is what was needed. That was a lie. I never said that I did not want a matching set. AND why didn't he tell me the problem about unmatched sets yesterday. He clumsily added that the parts man had told him yesterday that unmatched sets won't work. So why did he not tell me that you have to buy an entire new commode. I demanded a new tech. The new tech whisked my old commode out of my house into his truck without asking. I wanted to switch my seats out with one in my 2nd bathrm). They offered to install one of their toilets at no charge BUT I purchased and toted my own upgraded commode from Home Depot for it is in our Guest bathroom. New tech installed successfully. He adamantly wanted my new empty box the new commode came in. I think he was going to use it to reuse my old toilet that he conviscated from me ( without asking )to pass off as new to the next customer. So their approach to repairs is to send any flunky out. Only upon demand is someone who is really skilled sent out. They apprehend your old toilet and your new empty box from your new toilet to utilize for their next unsuspecting customer. Sounds like some shady business going on behind the scenes regarding replacement parts- the 2nd tech conviscated our old toilet without asking and adamantly wanted to take my new empty toilet box too. Biggest problem is their first tech did not know enough, and LIED, and did not share imperative information with me regarding unmatched tank and toilet sets. Even the lady at Home Depot knew that unmatched sets are likely to leak.
Description of Work: Ernie's Plumbing was called to repair a leak between the tank and the commode. A new tank was unsuccessfully installed. 2nd day a total new commode ( that I picked out, purchased and toted home myself) was installed successfully. They were going to install something from their warehouse but we needed a presentable commode in our guest bathroom. I insisted upon a new tech too who installed the new commode sucessfully but who apprehended my old toilet set without asking. (I wanted to switchout at least the seats and use it in our other bathroom. He also adamantly wanted the box that my new toilet came in.

First, I would like to apologize to this customer because she obviously did not receive the experience we expect all of our customers to receive. Unfortunately she is not being totally honest with her post and I would like to correct several of her statements. First we only hire licensed, experienced plumbers, but we are always happy to send a different plumber out if you are not totally happy with one of our plumbers for any reason. He did carry off the old toilet because we do not leave trash at a customer’s home when we leave. Had she asked to keep her old toilet and box our plumber would have been more than happy to leave it with her. We do not resell any parts or fixtures to any of our customers. That is unethical as well as illegal and we will not have any part in that. As she said we did offered to buy and install a new toilet for her because our plumber did make an error in trying to install a new tank on her old bowl and she declined. We did however make every effort to make amends with this customer and she refused our attempts at every turn. Again, I am very upset that we could not make this customer happy, as that is our goal with EVERY customer, but she has written several very mean spirited lies about us on here that I felt the need to correct.

It was a good deal. They don't take credit cards, which is weird so I had to send them a check but it was okay. The guy was fantastic, he was brilliant and really he could work with it. I think I got a really good deal with them. Everything was excellent, top of the line - they were really good, seriously. Working with the owner was really easy and he was great to work with. They were polite, prompt and everything. It was just fantastic.

Gary gave us a 30 minute lead time which was great since we aren't yet moved into our newly purchased, built in 1968 home. He was very professional with his assessment of our overall gas line structure and cleaned up the work areas before he left. He completed the work ahead of schedule even though we had unknown booby traps in the attic in the form of unsafe boards to walk on. We felt like the charges for the "Unknown Work Needed" were fair. We have used Ernie's Plumbing before, but the next time we call, we will ask for Gary if he's available.
Description of Work: Our plumber, Gary, installed gas plumbing for a new cooktop and oven. He went into the attic several times to fix leaks found due to older pipes. He advised us of old lines that needed to be removed and of a leak in our hot water heater thermostat. (sorry, I couldn't add a new catagory-he was hired to do new gas plumbing.)

The gentleman who came out was very dirty, I mean filthy, when he came to my home. At the end of the visit he did want to honor the coupon of $25.00 off from the yellow pages, after much debate he did honor the coupon. He got the job done, but it was not a good experience. The work was on a rental home and my tenants were living there still, I was not impressed by him. He also gave me an estimate for additional work at that house and was almost twice as much as the other estimates I received. I would not use them in the future.

We are very sorry to hear that this member had a bad experience with us. Unfortunately our plumber had been working on an outside job that day and did not have a change of uniform in his truck. So when this customer called the office and requested him out that day he did not make the office awareof this. We have spoken to this employee about the need for personal appearance just as a reminder. Also, he had given the customer our repeat customer discount for 10% off which was greater than the $25.00 off. Normally,we do not combine discounts but our plumber did go ahead and do that on this occasion. Our service manager made contact with this customer and have expressed our deepest apologies. -- Ernie's Plumbing Service, Inc. 1809 W. Pioneer Parkway Arlington, TX 76013

The service was great and the price was reasonable and fair though not cheap.
Description of Work: Ernie's installed 2 hot water heaters in our second story attic this year. We were very pleased with their service and professionalism. They were prompt, used their time efficiently, kept the home areas clean. We had previously used Ernie's last year when we had a potential gas leak such that all gas lines and appliances had to be checked. We were so impressed with their attention to detail, time efficiency, and professional service that we used them for the installation of the hot water heaters and were glad that we did.

I will say the woman who booked my appointment was very nice on the phone. The plumber showed up on time and they called ahead to make sure I was home. HOWEVER, this does not give them the right to charge such high prices. The plumber who showed up admitted that they did charge more than most of their competition. I will never call Ernie's Plumbing again.
Description of Work: I didn't use Ernie's Plumbing because I felt the estimate was too high. The plumber wanted to charge a MINIMUM of $275 just to take my shower faucet apart and find the problem. He said the total could be as high as $750 if he had to replace the shower assembly. This sounded too high so I called a competitor who did the job for only $90. It turns out a washer needed to be replaced and a screw tightened on the inside of the stem. The competitor also said he wouldn't charge me anything until he knew what the problem was. Thank goodness for second opinions!!

In Sept '09 the customer was given an estimate of $187.50 to install her toilet. Previous repairs to the toilet had proved unsuccessful, therefore it was the plumbers opinion that the toilet should be replaced in the long run. A flapper can only be considered a temporary repair. We do apologize for any inconvenience that the homeowner experienced but we do not feel that our plumber was trying to be dishonest. He has always proven to be very professional and highly customer oriented.

I have an older house and this house has the old style clay pipe drain line, with no clean-outs mind you. I also have a ton of trees in my yard. The two make for a very bad combination. I am constantly having roots in my line and the sewer line backs up into my house. So I called Ernies in to see about getting some clean-outs put in so I can take care of this problem more readily. They told me first that they would have to locate my drain line to be able to tell what they needed to do, understandable. It took the guy three days to "locate" his equipment from someone else to be able to do the job that we had scheduled for three days earlier. All the while my line is clogged and I cannot use my plumbing (toilet, showers, sinks, etc.). He shows up finally and puts his snake camera in the line and we cannot really see anything as to tell what the blockage is, which is the point of the camera part. He locates the line using the same equipment, for 350, very expensive for the work done mind you. So now that the guy knows were the line is, he gives me a quote for digging down 18" in a 5x2 foot area and replacing a 4 ft section of pipe with two clean-outs (this is code now days to have two, which is ok with me and honestly a better thing to have). His price was 1200 dollars. We talked about that for a while as that is just insane to pay IMO. I asked what would he charge me if I dug the hole myself, he told me he could probably do it for 400-500 if I dug the hole. So I decided to dig the hole and call him when I was ready. Instead I found another plumber who would do the same thing for 200 after I dug the hole. So I did not go with Ernies for the bulk of the service I requested due to price. They were extremely professional and the guy spoke great English, which is always a plus. A very professional plumbing company, but a bit on the pricey side.
Description of Work: Called Ernies out to my house for a quote on getting clean-outs installed outside my house and to locate my drain line in the yard for the clean-outs. The gentlemen used their camera to look in the drain line and then locate the pipe in the yard. This was after rescheduling a couple times due to "someone else having his equipment". He performed the location sercive for 350.00 and gave me a quote to dig up a 5x2 foot area to install the clean-outs for 1200 some-odd dollars.

We have had an intermittent slab leak for the past 18 months. It would leak and by the time we had a plumber arrive to find and repair the leak, it would stop and they couldn't find the source of the leak. We noticed the leak on Wed morning and I called several plumbers right away, explained the problem and urgency because of our bad luck finding the leak in the past. Ernie's was able to send someone within the hour, but didn't bring any equipment to troubleshoot or repair the problem. The plumber who came just gave an estimate of how much it would cost to find the leak and then fix if they were able to find it. The estimate was much higher than we expected. We contacted someone else, who, although they didn't come over right away, they had what they needed to do the job, did the job to our satisfaction and at a much lower cost than Ernie's estimate.

I think they are new to our area in Gainesville and when I have called have come out in less than 24 hours. I first called them for an estimate to re-plumb our polybutelene pipe that is getting old. I thought there estimate was reasonable at first. We ended up having a leak a week or two after they were here. Their estimate said they give a 10% discount on follow-up business so I figured it might be good to call them for the leak and then I would get a discount on the larger job. One thing about these guys is they like to fill out their paperwork and whatever else they do when they get in the driveway. Don't be surprised if they leave you standing in the driveway while they start their paperwork for 5-10 minutes. This happened more than once. Even though the plumber had been here and knew what kind of plumbing we had, he didn't have the basic T or fittings for our pipes. He spent a whole lot of time on the phone vs. working and charged us labor to drive 30 miles to Home Depot to get the part. The bill ended up being $361 for a relatively minor leak at a T-joint. It should have been half that or less if he had gotten off the phone and brought the basic parts. He wouldn't even give us the Angie's List discount saying we were going to get reimbursed by our home warranty company. He only grudgingly gave us the refrigerator magnet for future discounts. Shortly after he left, I got a call from someone in Ernie's office asking whether we were satisfied. I told them I was disappointed in the service, the high charge and perhaps an hour or so that he spent on the phone. They put me through to the supervisor. We discussed it and he said he would get back to me. He did call back and leave a message but then didn't return my call when I called back. I called him a second time a week or two later and refreshed his memory. He said we had not been treated right but made no offer to do anything about it. We talked about the re-plumb job. He offered to send someone else out to talk to us about it. When he came, he did the same, sit in the van for 5-10 minutes doing paperwork while I waited in the driveway to show him what was needed. He confirmed the original estimate of about $4700 and said they would give me the ten percent discount. However; he said if they ran into any surprises or problems, they would charge me $175 an hour in addition to the bid and he didn't want to be very specific about what the surprises might be. He wanted me to sign on the spot but I decided I wasn't comfortable with the $175 an hour for any surprises. I've since found another contractor on Angie's List with a better price and agreed to cover everything for the bid, not leave himself an out for "surprises" @ $175/hr. The second plumber was $96 an hour if I needed some additional work down like some outside plumbing.
Description of Work: We had a leak in some old plumbing in a wall between our bathroom and garage. We also asked them to bid replumbing polybutelene pipe for four baths, a kitchen and laundry room.

Response from Ernie's Plumbing Service Inc
It is with profound apologies to him for the quality of service that he recently received. There are a few items that I would like to clarify so that there is no doubt left. It is true that our plumbers often fill out their initial paperwork when they have arrived. It is true that we did not have the needed fitting on our truck. This particular part is not typically carried on most plumbing trucks, the item is not hard to find it just isn’t used often and that is why he plumber had to go to the supply house. As often as possible we strive to provide every type of customer service that we can. When this homeowner says that we were on the phone for over an hour he is certainly correct. We were trying on his behalf to get him reimbursed for our invoice. He had a warranty service but we were not a part of their network and they did not have any plumbers available. So yes we were on the phone for an extended amount of time. Regarding the people skills. We are very proud of all of our employees (including office staff) and would like to think that we all try as hard as we can to make each and every customer happy. Sometimes though we all have an off day and I think that this is what happened in this case. These two particular plumbers have been with Ernie’s for a while and they are typically two of our most requested technicians. He has pointed out that we did make our followup call to make sure that he was satisfied with the job that had been done at his home. When it was discovered that he was disappointed the dispatcher did the proper thing and routed him straight to our service manager. It is my understanding that our service manager did make contact with the homeowner and that the homeowner was to get back with us regarding how to make the whole experience better. To this date we have not heard back.

It seemd a bit expensive, so I called and asked why the price was $190.00 (complained) and I was given a $65.00 refund. We have used Ernie's for many years and once again they came through with flying colors.
Description of Work: I had a leaky faucet in my kitchen. We called Ernie's and they came and id the work quickly and efficiently.

We had used them before. The quality of their work was good. They were responsive and punctual. We would use them again in the future.
Description of Work: We used Ernie's Plumbing Service 3 weeks ago. We had a clogged line, and they came out. They went in and the line kind of cleared itself.

While he was working, I went to get a new faucet and had him install that as well. Henry also checked out our hot water heater which ended up being corroded and replaced it. He also brought our water heater up to code. We had an inspector out who felt Henry did a great job. I felt their pricing was reasonable and Henry was thorough and cleaned up well after himself.
Description of Work: Henry came out to change the piping under the sink in the kitchen.

I thought we had a water leak at a rental house and they explained how it was water running off the neighbors house which is on higher ground than we are. They did not charge anything, not even a service call.
Description of Work: I called them to come out to look at a leak.

They were prompt and they did a very good job. Their price was a bit more than the estimate. I would grade them high across all categories.
Description of Work: Ernie's Plumbing replaced the water sink that was flooding out about two or three years ago.

I found them off of Angie?s List. We like them and we have used them several times before. They accomplish their work, their price is reasonable, they do whatever we need and they don?t seem to add in extras to make more money out of us. They are honest and prompt, and they go out of their way for us. I have no complaints whatsoever.
Description of Work: I had a toilet that was running and that wouldn’t stop, and so I used Ernie's Plumbing to fix it for me.
