UPDATED 8/17/2013: Our initial review follows below. What started out great turned into a nightmare; two fence posts (one on each gate) began warping this summer. I called July 22, left a message, and received a call back on July 23 from a gentleman who stated someone would be out the next week to take a look. The next week came, no one called or showed up. August 5, my husband called and spoke with Sidney, who stated someone would be out Wednesday, Thursday or Friday that week and would replace the posts outright. He stated they would call first. No one called, no one showed up. August 12, my husband called and spoke with Kenny, who did our initial consult. Kenny apologized, explained they'd had a difficult time keeping up with all of the rain we'd had this summer, but that someone would be out by Wednesday, possibly Tuesday to fix the fence. My husband asked that they please call before they came out, because we have a dog and four small children, and always keep the gates locked. We needed to know to keep them open. No one showed up or called Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. Friday, August 16, at 6:57 a.m. I received a call from C.J. who said they'd be out around 8:30 a.m. that day to fix the posts. He said it would take a couple of hours and asked what kind of posts we had. I said I thought they were French Gothic, but I didn't know fencing material that well and couldn't be sure. I told him we'd waited around all week and I had errands to run that morning. I stated I'd leave the gates open and that we'd be back around 10 a.m. At 8:40 when we left, no one was there. At 9:45 a.m. when we got back, no one was there. I called C.J. back, who seemed surprised no one had shown up. He said he'd call me right back once he got in touch with the gentleman who was coming out. A few minutes later he called back, and said the gentleman would be there any minute. At 10:45, he did show up, told me they didn't tell him we had French Gothic posts, and that someone was going to have to bring some out to him. I showed him the posts that needed replacement, and he started working. Around 12:30, I didn't hear anything, so I looked outside. He was gone. I assumed he'd gone to get the posts, so I didn't think much of it. Around 3:00, he came back and started putting up the new posts. Again I assumed he was going to then finish the job, as I'd been told the whole process would take a couple of hours. At 4:00, I looked outside to see how it was going, and the man was gone. Hadn't said anything to me or given any indication he was leaving. I waited until 4:45, then called and left a message, asking if he was coming back or what the plan was. My husband called Kenny and left a message asking what was going on. Kenny returned the call and said they'd be out 'first thing" Saturday morning, or he'd come out himself and finish the job. My husband stated the job needed to be finished by then. Saturday morning, we received no calls, no indication that they were coming out. At 9:45 a.m. I called and left a message with Kenny, asking what was going on, and expressing our sincere frustration with this situation. I told him I'd previously left a great review on them here on Angie's List, and that I was going to update it with a negative one. Fifteen minutes later, he called back and the crew was apparently on their way and scheduled to arrive at any time. He gave no reason for not calling to tell us that, just that they'd be there any minute. Shortly after, two gentlemen showed up to finish. By that time, my husband had started to put the fence back together, because we hadn't received any notification they planned to do so. I'm terribly disappointed with this; I just hope and pray we never have another problem with this fence. At this point, we are willing to pay someone else to come in and do the work, rather than be blown off by Volunteer. I understand this is the busy season--we've also had a lot of rain which I'm sure makes their schedules difficult. But I don't appreciate being treated like our time isn't valuable, or as if we have time enough to just wait around on them. Our experience with Kenny and Volunteer Fence Company was awesome. Kenny came out on a Saturday to run a quote for us, was extremely prompt in getting back to my husband about any questions, and when our association asked us to re-draw the plot line for the fence, he did so and re-quoted the estimate in under five minutes. We moved into our home Jan. 2, had Kenny out to quote the fence on the 13th, and the job was done by Jan. 24. It looks fantastic and it's very sturdy. Overall, we are really pleased and happy with the fence!
