After a June 2011 storm snapped trees and caused damage to our Walhalla home, we took our property manager's vigorous advice and selected Two Brothers Construction (or Improvements), owned by Brian A. Watson of Timmonsville and Seneca, SC, for repairs. When we subesquently tried to hire another repairman with better credentials, Mr. Watson indicated that, based upon our initial, tentative (no contract) choice to use him for the task, he had purchased $1000 in material for the work. That proved to be a false statement. In late July, we mailed a $3000-check for Two Brothers to our property manager who forwarded it. It was promptly deposited but, contrary to repeated verbal (phone) assurances, no work was performed until November when Mr. Watson was advised that we were coming to inspect his progress. The little bit of work he then performed was shoddy, substandard and incomplete, again contrary to verbal assurances given. After being tricked into giving him another chance, we learned that his next piece of work was worse than previous efforts. Where a large branch punched through the roof and ceiling of an upstairs room, the sheetrock was to have been removed and insulation inspected for moisture. Instead, Mr. Watson merely mudded over the 8" ceiling hole but stated the sheetrock was replaced after the insulation was checked. That was discovered to be untrue when we switched to a reputable carpenter who made the correct repairs. He also discovered that a shattered peak rafter had been ignored and simply covered over with new ridge shingles. A hole in the 3/4" roof decking was patched with a piece of 1/2" plywood, leaving an obvious depression. All in all, a completely bad experience with Two Brothers Construction involving poor workmanship, poor ethics and less than honest communications. Our property manager inicated she has stopped using Brian A. Watson because of similar fraud committed against another property client. Requests from property manager for refund of money paid has been ignored.
Description of Work: Initial work was two temporary garage roof patches made after storm damage occured 6/22/2011, performed at property manager's direction. After we received a bid of $5400 for complete repair, a $3000 advance payment was made in late July. No work was performed until November, with permanent fixes made where the temporary roof patches were. A shattered gable beam was propped up close to original position but left hanging.
