Schultheis Bros

Darrin is the man. He worked me in during the morning (much appreciated), simply came and, with no fanfare, just unclogged the thing. I've had lots of different plumbers to my house over the years, for various reasons. The vast, vast majority tell you why what they are doing is so hard. This is the second time Darrin just came to my house and did the job at hand -- efficiently and well. Tremendous. I think of him in terms of the adage "when you make it to the end zone, act like you've been there before" -- old time professionalism or the sort I wish we had more of. I think I finally found a good plumber!

Excellent. Darrin is very professional, the quiet type who just does things well without calling a lot of attention to himself. I was very concerned about the main valve replacement since I live in an old house that was built prior to plumbing. I called Schultheis because of excellent experience with their HVAC service. I expressed my concern with the valve replacement and Darrin said he has been a master plumber for 20+ years and I was in good hands. He was right. After the main valve was replaced I asked about replacing two shutoff valves for an upstairs bathroom. He bothered to check the old valves before replacing and suggested I might not need to replace them -- but I wanted them replaced to ball valves anyway, just for peace of mind. Those look great as well. You know you have someone good when he does not suggest work for the sake of work. Apparently, Schultheis is more of an HVAC company than a plumbing company (they have fewer plumbers). This is too bad, since they seem to hire quality people. I've written about Mike (my HVAC person) before and the two gentleman who installed my new AC last year did a great job as well. (I tried to write an Angie's List review for that work, but it was rejected since it came too soon after another review -- the one for Mike's visit for the annual AC inspection.) I also asked Darrin about pipes that freeze under my kitchen and laundry -- pipes in a small crawlspace. He was not at all intimidated by this work (unlike other plumbers who like to put up lots of billboards) and had an immediate suggestion. I will definitely ask for him to do this work as well -- and look forward to having that problem solved. I wish Schultheis had handymen -- I am looking for one, and they seem to find very professional, quality people.

since it was a sunday, he did not have the part he needed to get the furnace going again. we had the part first thing the next morning and the very old furnace was running again. Even though we know we need to replace the furnace, they were able to get this one fixed and running again, so we can make a decision about the purchase of a new furnace while we were not under pressure.

They always do a good job on furnaces.

Everything went very well. They had been maintaining my 28 year old Trane equipment since it was initially installed. There was some question as to the safety of heat exchanger on the fall inspection so I decided to replace all of the HVAC equipment to get up-to-date efficiencies.. I received 3 bids from different contractors; Schultheis was within 5% of the lowest. No hard sell - just presentation of options. As with anything, you get what you pay for. The removal and installation took 3 days. Everything was cleaned up and old equipment hauled away. It has worked perfectly since the 11/1/16 installation. I couldn't be more satisfied.

He worked up an estimate and got back with us and gave us our different options of what brand to buy and how expensive. Then they ordered it and then came in and installed it two weeks later. There was no cost to the estimate. I really can't say anything bad about them.

The first time they came out they did an estimate. They have a professional guy that that's all he does. He goes out and measures the square feet of your dwelling place. Then they estimate how much heat you need. So he worked up an estimate and got back with us and gave us our different options. What we could buy, what brand, how expensive, then they ordered it and then came back and installed it two or three weeks later. I really can't say anything bad about them. It was excellent. First of all, I needed a new furnace and I was at a Home Depot and they had a kiosk set up and giving out literature and saying if you are interested in a new furnace or air conditioning unit, we can come out and give you an free estimate. When they came in $2000 cheaper than the company I already was working with so I chose them.

I signed a contract for yearly maintenance for my heating and air conditioning. They came in and they measured my house the interior and actually what the other company was trying to sell me was a furnace that was too powerful. So basically I was spending too much on electric because the fan that was trying to blow out the heat was constantly running because it was too powerful for my house so anyway Schultheis Bros.came in and actually quoted me a better deal on a more efficient unit so I was truly thankful for that.

Outstanding. Mike has been our guy since the polar vortex of 2015 when we found out the hard way that our previous guy was ripping us off. We have never, ever before had maintenance like Mike does on that unit -- he works solidly for over and hour and when he is finished it sounds great and we go into the season with a lot of confidence!

They did excellent job. Every time we call, they are right there to help.

They are amazing company. Every time we call, they are right there, even when its a problem they didn't cause. We had snow build up, and everything froze. We had water leaking, and they fixed the roof, even before the roof was replaced. We got new flashing installed, and they came out in sub zero weather, to also take ice out of the gutters. Roof is beautiful and perfect.

I noticed the temperature was 62 degrees so I called the and they said they’d get somebody here as soon as they could because they were overwhelmed and they came. Its 25 years old and they’ve serviced it every year. I really can’t say aside from that pump we’ve had any problems.

They are on contract that if anything happens they must come out and they do.

The Schultheis technician unblocked the condensate drain... by pushing the clog down the line, where it caught again. The condensation built up in the line and overflowed out another drain further down about a week later, causing $4,000+ in water damage to the ceiling and wall below. I called Schultheis to see what they would do to help with our insurance deductible for the incident (aren't they supposed to carry their own insurance?), and they haven't even bothered to return my calls.

The work we needed to get done wasn't easy by any means. It wasn't an average job because it involved taking down of a 25 year old unit which was extremely complicated. I made numerous calls to various vendors and received upto 5 different quotes. A few of the vendors/installers had never even seen a unit like ours and were afraid to even provide us a quote. Long story short, Schultheis Bros provided the best quote. It was everything we were looking for. A friend of mine referred them to me and I am glad I listened to her. Schultheis Bros were amazing to work with. They did an excellent job from start to finish. From Estimator to Project Manager to Installer, everyone was extremely hardworking, friendly and helpful to work with. I recommend everyone to call them. They came from one end of the town to other for this job.

The two men that came were very professional and efficient. They actually installed the new A/C unit without stopping for lunch, and working the whole time. I'm a loyal Schultheis customer ever since they came in the middle of the night during a polar votex when my furnace broke -- and, so far every experience I've had with them since has been very positive.

As usual, I have nothing but praise for Mike -- see my previous reviews for glowing recommendations. Nothing has changed. I'm always happy to see him come. This time he had to "condemn" my AC -- sadly, after he cleaned it! I should have known this was coming -- it was leaking several years ago and a patch job to the coil worked for a few years, but eventually gave in. For several years of its life, it needed coolant before it would start for the season. So, someone else came from Schultheis within an hour, gave me an estimate on a replacement, and I went for it (they will come in two days to replace the unit). I am a loyal Schultheis Bros. customer, ever since Mike came on that polar vortex night in 2015 when my furnace failed -- to do improper maintenance from my previous HVAC guy. As an aside, I also used other places in the distant past (a local company specializing in Carrier, service, actually). Those guys never seemed to know what they were doing. These guys do.

Once again, we could not be more impressed with the service provided by Mike. As written in a previous review, he came in the middle of the night during the "polar vortex" last winter when the furnace quit working at 11:30pm on a Sunday night -- and may well have saved the pipes in the whole house from freezing and bursting as a result. At the very, very least, he saved me from a miserable time because I had a broken ankle at the time and would not have been able to occupy the house for at least a week once the pipes froze (the temps were staying extremely cold for a long time, for those that remember those days). The furnace failure was do to improper maintenance by another HVAC technician we previously trusted. That was our introduction to Mike -- when he was dead-tired and came that night from over 40 miles away to fix our furnace when no one else would. Kudos also to the Schultheis Bros call center for answering my call that night, BTW! So, since then, Mike has proved this kind of dedication and quality service was no fluke. Of course, we purchased a service contact from Schultheis Bros and asked for Mike. He did the A/C last summer -- cleaning it in ways the our previous so-called HVAC maintenance person never did -- and it ran much better as a result. This time, he did the same thing for the furnace, spending over two hours cleaning that unit that, most likely, had never been properly serviced in the fifteen years of its existence until Mike took hold of it. As with the A/C, he used WATER! Our previous HVAC guy never did, which seems incredible to us now. But Mike actually took out the burners, cleaned them, and put them back -- telling me he wouldn't do this every year, but it clearly needed to be done this time. He also cleaned the infamous "condensate drain" which was not being maintained before and is the reason the furnace failed in the polar vortex last year. We discovered that should be cleaned every year -- something our previous HVAC guy never did but, of course Mike does routinely. While he was here I sat upstairs, working on my computer, right above the furnace. I could hear him working the entire two hours on that unit -- it was incredible. And, as with the A/C, when it runs now, it sounds better than it has in years. People like Mike who are dedicated to doing a good job and who know their stuff are all too rare these days. But, they make a big, big difference -- as we discovered the hard way. Thank you.

We had Schultheis give us a quote to replace the boiler for our heating system in early Spiring. We held off on the upgrade till fall and then contacted them. They confirmed the quote and scheduled the replacement. They arrived on time, and did a great job setting everything up and cleaning up afterwards. They were very respectful, wore those shoe covers as they walked through the house to bleed the radiators. We did have an issue with some water being let out by the boiler due to high pressure, They had someone come over and take a look right away by a very knowledgable and experienced person. He explained the problem (potentially a faulty valve, or an incorrect factory pressure setting) he made the adjustments to prevent the problem, and came back a few days later to again check and make sure everything was good. Overall, it was a great experience, the staff are extremely knowledgable and these are my go to guys for both heating and cooling (i have separate systems) A+++.

Went well. He and his helper waited around to make sure the fix worked. In addition he fixed another small problem we had with our washer hose. Great service!

The guy arrived 4-5 hours late to measure from the scheduled time even after I said I only had a brief window where i would be home. They never followed up with me on the estimate. I called several times and they continuously didn't call me back. they finally did call me back and gave me a verbal estimate and said they would call me back the next day to revise it and give me a final estimate of which they never did. I highly recommend avoiding this place. don't waste your time like I did on them.

This is a response to the statements made by Schultheis regarding my review. Their response stated "when a roof experiences severe rotting that would require intensive structural work, we maintain the right to decide not to perform work." It also stated "the roof was completely deteriorated and that the structure would need to be completely redone." Thls was not true of my roof. The only section that was rotted was the left side of the overhang where the gutter was. The response by Schultheis Bros was completely untrue regarding my roof. Perhaps they got my job mixed up with another roofing job!

Mike is the best. As described in a previous review, he came during a below-zero night (during a polar vortex), in the middle of the night last winter, to fix the furnace -- don't know what we'd have done if he hadn't come. When he came then he said the furnace wasn't being properly maintained -- and described exactly why (something we looked up in great detail afterward). I think he thought it wasn't having routine maintenance at all, but, in fact, we had this other guy come, for several years, who did nothing but take our money. Heck, that other guy even started to put in cheaper air filters, and we discovered the housing for the original air filter was removed -- and it cannot be replaced. So, I'm stuck with these cheaper air filters now. When Mike came he CLEANED the AC unit -- and I mean with a hose! The other guy NEVER did that -- never even used water when he came (which actually led to the other problem with the furnace). Now the AC unit runs something like an order of magnitude quieter than it did before. It must have been so filthy all those years and struggling to get air. How is a person supposed to know? Even Angie's list does not always help with that all of the time, because these HVAC units are complicated, and con artists are out there. We trusted the other guy because he talked a good line. But the difference between him and Mike is clear an unambiguous. You can actually hear it in the way the unit operates and see the effort Mike puts into actually maintaining the unit. Mike is a professional who cares about his craft. It's a joy to find people like that these days.

We moved into a new house on Tuesday, and Wednesday we realized the a/c wasn't working. We put in a call and they said they'd fit us in as soon as they could. They called back 2 hours later and said someone would be there at 4. Service guy showed up at 215 and got right to work. Turned out the unit has been disconnected. He reconnected the unit, added freon, and cleaned the coils. It was up and running when he left. Friday morning we realized that it wasn't working again so we called back. Again they said they'd call when they could fit us in but they were busy. They called back an hour or so later and said someone would be there in a half an hour. Service guy inspected the unit and discovered a clogged coil. He cleaned the coil and got the unit up and running again. There was no charge for this visit because they have a 90 day guarantee on their labor.
