Phillips Heating & Air Conditioning Company

From the initial contact to the tech who made the service call, the experience was less than pleasant. After waiting 3 hours for the tech to call, he informed me the service call would be 169$ since it was an emergency call. I was informed "emergency calls" are more. I agreed to pay since I had no heat and pending subzero temps were on the way. Once the tech arrived and "diagnosed" the problem, he wrote an estimate. He said he would knock the service call down to 129$. So, the estimate: |Without Service Contract: |Service call-no heat 129$ |Inducer locked/AVAILABILITY??? 698$ | or With Service Contract: |Service Call 64.50 |Service Contract 249$ |Inducer 593$ |"Other repairs may be necessary-won't know until furnace operates" | |The tech informed me he was not sure if the part was available and stated he was not sure if that was even the problem. |Since I don't have a thousand dollars to throw at a repair that may or may not work, and the general attitude of the tech and whomever answered the company's phone, I opted not to go with this company. |The furnace is less than 5 years old and the company I chose immediately diagnosed the problem, obtained the part, and made the repair for half the quote of Phillips.

The technician came promptly when he said he would, was friendly, courteous, and very knowledgeable, and gave me useful advice about this furnace (in a newly purchased house) and what to expect from it. He changed the filter on the furnace and told me how / when to order a new one, checked everything over, and removed buildup from the wire above the pilot light that would eventually have caused the furnace to shut off automatically. I purchased the service as a Big Deal and it was definitely worth the money. Based on this experience I plan to use the same provider next year.

The technician was punctual, polite, and answered any questions that I had. A positive experience.

Rich came out and was very good about explaining all my curiosities. I asked several questions for my own knowledge, he answered everything so I could understand while he was scrubbing and vacuuming. I would definitely consider this service again.

Phillips did not provide services, Angie's List did not pay them. He said he would get back to us to give us a price on a new furnace, but never did.

He was not able to complete the inspection because he said we had a crack in our heat exchanger. No problem - real nice guy. He gave me an estimate for a new furnace.

See above ! NEVER buying certificates from Angies list again! Groupon or livingsocial is much better!!!!

The men came on time and were very professional and knew what they were doing. They were done at about 3pm and cleaned up after themselves. I also had an april air humidifier and new thermostat installed. The men showed me how to use both before leaving. I would definitely hire them again.

Lines froze and lost heat because they did not do it when first installed.

After purchasing this Deal, I realized that my insurance would cover it and I was able to get a refund. I would consider purchasing the Deal again in the future if needed. It’s nothing that the company did wrong, necessary.

I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for this service and it went well. They provided some other suggestions and we were satisfied with the service.

They came on time and did exactly what was promised. Also explained to me all the details about our old furnace in the new house we just bought. Gave me options and prices for upgrades with no pressure. We will be upgrading in the future and will definitely use these guys when we replace our furnace.

They did a complete furnace inspection. They did a complete job and didn't pressure me into buying a new more efficient furnace. I was completely satisfied.

It went great. The technician, Wes, arrived on time and his office even called to tell me that he was on the way. He spent more than 4 hours inspecting the furnaces and cleaning them. He showed me how to change the filters in the future (we recently bought the house) and told me what size filter to use. He even advised me of the type of filter to buy for future use and how often to change them. He told me of two small repairs that should be made to one of the furnaces and wrote me an estimate for each repair that we will do in the future as neither is urgent. Wes was polite and very helpful. We will definitely use this company for our future air conditioning and heating needs. We have 3 central air conditioning units for the building and I will be scheduling an appointment with Phillips in early summer to inspect them and make any repairs required.

Everything went fine. When we contacted them they came out within 2 days and we had no problems. They showed up on time.

Some confusion on coordinating my being available when the technician arrived but that was resolved with a few phone calls. I thought the fellow was thorough, he explained and showed me the problems he found, and made suggestions to fix them. I asked for a estimate to replace 1 furnace and 1 A.C. and was disappointed when I was told it would take at least 1 1 /2 hrs. He had already been at my home for 2 hrs. I felt that after 2 hrs, he should have been familiar enough with the equipment in the house to have written up an estimate in a few minutes. He did offer a "ballpark" figure and I decided to do some price shopping. I didn't think the office staff was very customer focused a little defensive on my first call to confirm arrival time.

They were good. They did not have a key part in there. There was miscommunication in the schedule. They are very polite. It is just we are still waiting for some parts to come in and reschedule. We did not pay more than the big deal, but we will be once we get our parts done. They showed up about a month early. I guess it was a computer malfunction. We did not hear anything about our parts coming and then, someone showed up a month later. They did not realize that someone came for that. So, there was just a miscommunication. They were super nice about it, but we still do not know about our parts. I thought their price was very reasonable.

Cleaned out AC, no parts or fluids replaced.

Do not use this company!! When the technician walked in the house he immediately presented me with a flyer on some of their "promotions". Then after about 15 minutes he called me downstairs and explained to me that I had a cracked heat exchanger. He told me that if the gas company came out, they would red-tag the furnace. I asked him if I could see the crack, and he said that I really coudn't as he had to use a special light to get up in there and see it. I asked if we needed to call the gas company and he said no, we didn't need to do that. He did tell me that Lennox warrants their heat exchangers for 20 years and that since my furnace was 19 years old I could get a replacement, but that the cost of installing it would be around $600, it was just better to get a new furnance. I just had another HVAC person come out and inspect the furanace and he couldn't find any evidence of cracks in the heat exchanger. This is not the first time I had heard of Phillips telling someone they needed a new furance when they did not after getting another opinion. I am a single women living alone and the other gentleman was ederly. Buyer beware of the $55 coupon special.

Checked 2 furnaces. Arrived at the appointed time. The workman will be returning to complete one part of the job that was unexpected. they also installed the furnaces a couiple of years ago. We have had no preblem with their service.

I cannot say enough about Phillips. We have a boiler warranty program with Equitable Gas Home Works, so when our carbon monoxide detector went off alerting us that something was wrong we contacted Equitable and a second company to come and check the problem. Both companies came out the following day, Sunday, and determined that the unit needed replaced. Both companies provided similar quotes. Since we had the warranty program we went with Phillips to proceed with the repairs AND they were able to have a new unit delivered the next day (Monday) and install (Tuesday). Knowing that we couldn't use the boiler to heat the house due to the carbon monoxide danger, Phillips tried to get our unit installed as soon as possible. The other company couldn't start repairs for approx. 5 day.s The guys arrived at the beginning of the snowstorm for the installation. Both technicians were EXTREMELY nice and we have felt that the customer service was EXCELLENT. The unit was installed in one day!!

We never really had the opportunity to find out what kind of work they do. The employees we spoke with were not necessarily rude, but not particularly friendly either. We didn't buy a furnace inspection because we thought we had the world's best furnace: in part we wanted advice on whether or not to replace it. It would have been nice to know when we bought the service that it would take several weeks to get someone to our home. I fault Angie's List for that as much as the provider since we bought the service from an Angie's List offer. The person we talked with on the phone was not particularly friendly and the technician, though courteous, was not particularly friendly and helpful either. With a recommendation to replace the furnace at a time the weather was about to get very cold, we thought someone might call us to follow up on the estimate they left. No one ever did. The estimate itself was a single number, with not even a partial breakdown of materials versus labor. in light of the company's disinterest in our business, we chose another company. We bought the same brand of furnace, but a higher end model along with humidifier and air conditioner. It's too bad, really, with just some enthusiasm and follow-up, this company would have had our business.
