Gilbert Tile

Bill did great work, was on time and responsive. Communicated very well during the job. Would recommend him highly.

When I use the vacuum attachment with a brush to sweep it, the brush keeps hitting these corners. It's also dangerous. My granddaughter cut her foot (through socks) on one of these corners. When I told Mr. Gilbert about this, he said the floor was PROBABLY uneven. I don't believe this floor was uneven and besides, even if it were, why didn't the subfloor make it even?.

Bill Gilbert came to give an estimate of my project within two days of my first call. After measurements and consulting with me as to my plans he drew up a work estimate that listed materials I had to select and the details of the work he would cover. With his list I was able to select all the materials with two trips to a major supply house. The work began one month after the initial estimate and went flawlessly to its conclusion 10 days later. Bill and his assistant were very easy to work with and I felt comfortable allowing them to work alone in my house while I went to my job.

Mr. Gilbert was contracted by us to replace the ceramic tile on the walls and floor of the main bathroom of a house that we purchased in the spring of 2012, as well as install a new tub, toilet, and sink/cabinet. He was lower priced than some of the other contractors from Angie's List that we contacted, and he assured my wife that she would be happy with his work. He provided an account at a ceramic tile dealer where we could buy the ceramic tile materials at a discount for us, which we appreciated. He and his assistant did very nice work up to the end of the job. We purchased a new tub, sink/cabinet, toilet, new faucets for the sink and tub and a shower head on our own. My sons and I did the demo work and removed most of the tile and the old tub and sink. Mr. Gilbert and his assistant removed most of the ceramic tile glue, smoothed over the glue that could not be removed with drywall plaster , and did a very nice job on the tile and installation of the tub and toilet. Where the attention to detail dropped off, however, was when he put in the new sink/cabinet. He and his assistant installed the cabinet, and because he reported that the floor (that he just installed ceramic tile on), was not level, installed the cabinet with wood shims under each of the front legs. This, as well as not adjusting and installing the heating/cooling vent, and a threshold at the bathroom door, left quite a bit of work for me, as the owner, to either do myself or hire someone to finish the job. These were all items that I presumed would be completed by the contractor. (I've had bathroom ceramic tile work done in the past, and nothing was left for me to do). Leaving the job in this condition was, in my opinion, very unprofessional. I especially thought that when he saw that the cabinet would not fit flush to the floor that he would have found and installed bull-nose ceramic base/trim that would have matched the floor tile and covered the shims. I'm really not that happy to please! I was out of town when my wife paid for the job, and I was very disappointed when I saw the conditions that Mr. Gilbert left for me to remedy.

We had trouble finding anyone that would install a shower pan in our walk in shower. These guys were one of the few willing to tackle the project. We also had them tile our shower in carerra marble tile and install a little corner bench. We were very pleased with the work. We even ran out of tile and they had to interrupt the project and come back to complete once we had ordered more tile - I know they were not happy about this, but they did it and did not charge us extra for the extra days they had to allot to the project. They seemed reasonably priced and seemed to be very skilled in their trade. I would definitely use them again.

Bill came to the site and gave me a quote for tiling that was much less expensive than others I had talked to since he recommended an application that was not as labor intensive but looked about as good. He predicted that he would not be able to get to the job for at least two months but I decided to book him rather than keep looking for someone who could perform it sooner. He began the work exactly when he had predicted and was finished in two days. Bill and another fellow did great work, using some creative methods to tile around problem areas. The end result is very impressive.

I like that they got here on time. They were nice and punctual. I would use them again in the future too.

He did a beautiful job and it was well worth the price. He arrived on-time and was courteous. Overall, it was just a wonderful experience! I plan on using him to tile my other bathroom floor.

We contacted Bill and several other companies with high marks found on angie's list. His price was by FAR the best and seeing pics of his past work, it didn't seem that his quality was compromised. After the estimate, he gave us a detailed list of all of the supplies we needed which made it easy to shop. He arrived on-time each day and cleaned up every evening. The work was completed on-time and his estimate was spot on. We're really happy with the quality of his work and both bathrooms look amazing! We even found a coupon after he started the work which he honored. We'll definitely be using him again soon on a kitchen project we have pending!

Bill came out and for no charge did the measurements and provided a quote 4 months ago. It took Best Tile that long to actually get the tile in stock. Bill honored his quote and was very responsive in coming out right away to do the install. The installation looks fantastic and Bill clearly has years of experience and knows everything about installing tile. He even installed a whole new set of different color electrical outlets and wall plates, which I did not expect. It was very appreciated. I would not hesitated to have Bill come back for any tile work.

It went ok. The experience re-emphasized to me that you get what you pay for.

Bill gave us a good estimate but we had to wait for four months to have it completed since he was so busy. He completed the work in a week which was good since a few estimates said it would take six weeks. The bathroom looks great. We had selected everything ourselves form Home Depot form the list he gave us which takes a while to choose and have delivered also.

They were here on time each day, did a real nice job and I'm satisified. The price was reasonable. I would use them again.

Excellent as always. I've used Gilbert Tile exclusively for over 15 years, on three different restorations. For the last decade, I haven't even gotten other estimates. Gilbert Tile does a great job, on time, for a great price.

This work was done back in 2005, so I don't remember the exact price. Did a fantastic job and even installed the new toilet without even being asked to do so. Would hire again in a second.

They were phenomenal about communication. They called us at various steps along the way to make sure everything was what we wanted. When he came for the estimate, he was the only one that noticed details that his competitors failed to notice and he made measurements. His estimate was explicitly detailed which was really helpful.

Bill Gilbert gave us a detailed written quote at the time of reviewing the job. This impressed us as the other three contractors we requested quotations from gave verbal estimates and followed up with less detailed quotes. Selected Gilbert Tile based on both price and the fact that the quote was very detailed, effectively providing us with a "Bill of Materials" identifying this items which we wanted to provide (vanity, tile etc). Job started on the schedule date and took five days to complete, which was the time frame indicated in the quotation. The working area was cleared and all debris/rubble was taken away on a daily basis. The quality of the workmanship, particularly the tiling, was excellent. Everything fit and we are very please with the result.

He did not install any backer board over the plywood before laying the tile. So far we have no cracks, but cement board or backer board is typically used over a plywood sub-floor prior to laying tile. He also never used a wet saw and cut everything with a tile cutter and "chipper" tool. He clipped the tiles that had to curve around a corner tub and did a sloppy job on those pieces. He had a bad attitude when asked about it and made no attempt to correct his work or even acknowledge the problem.

We are happy with the work. He cleaned up well after the job and got the job done quickly with no interruptions.

Mr. Gilbert always returns phone calls and does the work when he says he will. It was a pleasure working with him.

Mr. Gilbert and his associate were on time, polite and cleaned up after each of the multiple visits it took for the various stages of the job. At first I believed that the cost quoted was high, but after I saw the actual effort and multiple steps and visits, I felt it was quite realistic. He provided a photo album of prior restorations as example of his work.

BILL WAS ON TIME AND VERY PROFESSIONAL. THE FLOOR LOOKS GREAT.
