Ed performed a very thorough inspection of a home we were intending to purchase. Ed was punctual, he took the time to explain exactly what he was going to do, and encouraged us to accompany him on the inspection. Ed is an experienced professional and clearly takes his work seriously. He completed the inspection on time and provided clear and concise information which we used to negotiate the closing deal on our house.

We called him late in the day on our way to my parents home. Living 5 hours away is not easy to be dealing with a musty smelling house. Ed came that very evening. He was prompt, very knowledgeable and explained what tests he could do. He examined all areas of the house, he even went into the attic!! We received our results within days and he recommended ways to eliminate the issues.

Ed is spectacular. I called him to ask if he could give me a last minute inspection on a house. He came to look at it about 10 minutes later! Not only was he extremely helpful, he even gave me lots of tips on how to improve and maintain the house. He obviously knows what he is doing and is a really nice guy. I believe he genuinely cared about me and my home buying issues. I will absolutely recommend him to everyone!

I feel burned by Angie's list. Let me break down my experience based on the qualities being rated. Price - Normal based on other inspections. Quality - He emailed us our insect inspection report, after review we realized it was a report for another house! I understand not attaching the right report to an email but it appeared he was using an old report as a template and forgot to make some changes. Also, he did not mention or take pictures of mold that was in the basement. How are we going to ask the homeowners to test the mold in the basement if it is not on the report? Responsiveness - He always emailed and called back in a timely manner. Punctuality - He was an hour and a half late. He did say that it was because of an accident but from his appearance it looked like he was up late the night before. I gave him an average rating in punctuality because I am unsure if he was being truthful about the accident. Professionalism - RUDE to the homeowners. He left all the lights on and did not wipe his shoes before coming into the house. I know this because he left a trail of mud on the floor. He smoked cigarettes while inspecting the outside of the house. Come on he couldn't wait three hours for a cigarette? Also, he kept saying he was on our side, I was not aware that there were sides during a home inspection. I believe the purpose of a home inspection is to learn more about the house you plan to buy, not to accuse homeowners of lies. I would not recommend this inspector in fact I will be calling Angie's list to complain. I due not plan to renew my membership next year, I have been burned too bad!!! Emily

Unfortunately cannot make everyone happy - never late. They had a 2nd appointment in the afternoon they were supposed to call me to confirm the time I would arrive so that they would get the same time and same courtesy is my 1st client of the day - they talk about mold - I'm industrial hygiene trained specialist - I told be very careful about the mold scam, Pittsburgh 101 - mold mitigation companies offering their own testing - multiple inspectors using low-level labs for processing and not trained by industrial hygienist - as far as mold is concerned if it is suspect that's exactly what it is the science that proves if it is an issue - should have called me to elect testing. It's written in the report. Obviously they do not read the report fully - inspections are 100% custom for the client and building - as far as the homeowner goes they really should not be present. The get very offensive when I criticize the building and try to justify unprofessional repairs, etc., and sometimes extremely dangerous repairs will I did get aggravated - multiple items were not moved for preparation of the independent building assessment, which is required - this was also a situation where the client did not like the way I wrote the wood destroying insect report - I am a certified applicator. Not this client in they did not agree with my professional advice - of course they cannot ask for repair unless they did testing as far as mold goes, it's in the report and it was completely explained -

It went amazingly. I could not have asked for a better experience. Ed took a stressful situation and answered all of my questions with patience. He was extremely thorough and trustworthy. I never doubted or questioned what was happening for a second.
Description of Work: Ed went above and beyond what any home inspector would do. He worked directly with my relator and when I could not make the appointment, he took extremely detailed notes and extra pictures so I was familiar with all of the ins and outs of the house I am looking to purchase. He was flexible and willing to communicate via email past regular business hours. In his report, he color coded and explained the meaning of all of his findings so I (a single, first-time home buyer) could understand everything. I would recommend him to anyone!

Never had such a meticulous inspection. Very clearly not only knows his stuff but really worked on my behalf to let me know the good and the bad about the place. His analysis made it easy for me to talk with seller about specifics in need of repair. I will keep his report as a guide to consider when traits might be called for in future. Very professional.

Ed was very thorough and professional. He took loads of pictures and took the time to explain everything to me. He covered everything from immediately needs repairs and safety concerns all the way to recommended maintenance. He definitely will work for YOU. He does not compromise his work because of any real or implied pressure from realtors or others. I feel very comfortable purchasing the home knowing what needs to be done and how soon it needs to be done. Ed has my respect and I would highly recommend him to others.

My fiance and I are first-time homebuyers and were very nervous about selecting a good home inspector. Ed came with great reviews and far exceeded them!! He was friendly, responded to questions and scheduling issues quickly, and - most importantly - did a thorough home inspection. He explained more than I ever thought I needed to know about various small issues in and aspects of the house, and gave an incredibly detailed report (with pictures) and the end of the inspection. We also experienced an issue during the first inspection - the home had not been dewinterized - and Ed was adamant in the inspection report that the inspection should be completed on the seller's end because he couldn't inspect water, gas, etc. Overall, a super positive experience! I was so pleased with Ed I joined Angie's List just to write this review. :)
Description of Work: Ed performed our home inspection. He also came back a week later to complete the inspection because the home was winterized upon the first inspection and he couldn't complete everything that needed to be done.

Very helpful and professional. It seems that he was the only person on our side while buying the home. He is thorough, patient, and independent. He discovered many issues with the new Maronda Model Home at Juniper Court , Heritage Estate. I believe that the effort of Maronda people to cover up the water problem in the home was discovered by Ed. He told me to relax and assured me that he will get things done right even though it takes him time. IT was worth it. Mr. Lampl personally performed the services himself. Not only did he arrive on the job on a timely basis. I received his report (via e-mail) the same day he did the inspection. The report itself was extremely detailed. It provided descriptions and pictures of what he was describing. I called him once I received and read the report and he was very patient in explaining it to me. I would highly recommend his services!

Ed was on time for our inspection. He was as thorough as anyone could ask for. Being a contractor myself I could see many obvious issues with the property that we were looking at, however Ed insisted on covering absolutely everything in his report and pointed out many issues that I was not aware of. He uses state of the art tools and provides the inspection report on-site, which was perfect since I was only given 10 days from signing the property contract to have the house inspected, review the inspection report and renegotiate with the seller. Time is very important during this process, so the on-site report was great and I could start reviewing the report that evening. Ed was professional and certainly knows his stuff (that's coming from a contractor who knows quite a bit).If you're looking for someone to spend 30-60 minutes inspecting your potential purchase, Ed is not your guy. I can assure you that if you're looking to rush through your inspection, you're going to miss a lot and when you realize it, it will be too late. Plan on spending a few hours with Ed and you'll get all the information that you want. He uses terms that anyone can understand and the report is extremely thorough. He is also very resourceful if you need to hire contractors for repairs on your new purchase. He may seem a bit rough around the edges, but that's due to the fact that he's a straight shooter (NO B.S.)! I'm sure that some folks feel that way about me, but the quality of work is second to none, as it is with Ed's inspections. I will certainly recommend his services and since this is an investment property for me, I will use his services for ALL future investment properties. He was willing to work with me in terms of scheduling and I could not be happier with my experience.

While doing some pre-spring cleaning in our basement we saw some mold growth on our carpeting. Soon after my husband became ill with terrible headaches. We called Ed in to test our house for mold because we like that he was an independent air quality tester and not affiliated with a company that does mold remediation. When he heard that my husband had been having health problems, he fit us into his schedule immediately and was out at our house within 2 days. Ed took 3 indoor samples as well as one outdoor sample to test as a baseline. Although the tests were a little expensive, I liked that he was using such a well-known lab to do the mold testing. The whole process made me feel very good that we were getting the best quality testing possible. Turned out we did have high mold levels in our basement and they were the kind that aren't good to have. Not the best news, but better to know than to not know. Ed gave us a recommendation of who to call for our mold remediation and since they started working my husband's health has been better and he has much fewer headaches and respiratory troubles.

Ed Lampl & HomePlusIsUs.com was by FAR the most professional and informative company we have had the pleasure to work with. After dealing with several companies such as Bactronix, Mold Men of Pittsburgh, and Metro Mold Removal Pittsburgh, Mr Lampl was the true pro, making everyone else appear as con men and/or rank amateurs. I will quickly summarize our experience with the other companies as to provide insight as to why we rate HomePlusIsUs.com & Ed Lampl so high. Bactronix talked a good game on the phone but never showed up even after several calls to their office and to their field representative. Metro Mold Removal Pittsburgh - We could not reach a live person but instead had to leave a phone message. (not reassuring or professional). Dont be fooled by a pretty face OR WEBSITE. Mold Men of Pittsburgh did have a live person and their man showed up. However they could not provide documentation as to the chemicals they would be using and the estimate was rather high. We did receive some promo equipment documents only after we made inquiries. They offered an air sample test for $175 which seemed primitive after seeing Mr Lampl's numerous pieces of equipment in action. Now back to HomePlusIsUs.com and Ed Lampl. First Ed took our call immediately and asked us some detailed questions, getting to the heart of our problem even before he asked us if we wanted an appointment. He was VERY knowledgeable and provided facts related to our issues. To be blunt he was more scientific and did not give us a "sales pitch" which is what we received from the other companies I mentioned above. (BTW we will never call them back to our home because the difference between them and HomePlusIsUs was that stark.). When you find a winner you stay with a winner and that is just old fashioned common sense. After the call ended within minutes he emailed us numerous documents detailing the type of mold problem we may be experiencing, the testing equipment he would be using, and medical information from the New England Journal of Medicine in regards to mold and its effects on our family. He also sent us a copy of "Mold Scams 101" which was an indication of his honesty. In comparison we did not receive any initial documents from Bactronix, Mold Men of Pittsburgh, or Metro Mold Removal Pittsburgh. We did get the sales pitch however and "how soon can we schedule you line"... After seeing the difference between HomePlusIsUs.com and the other mold companies in Pittsburgh, we scheduled an appointment. At the designated time (his professionalism even extended to being prompt) Ed arrived in his newer company vehicle and gave us an overview of what he was going to do and showed us the equipment he was using. Since I am curious in nature (and I have my family's health to consider) I asked Mr. Lampl many, many questions while he was working. Some of these questions I gathered from doing my own internet investigation and others from the "sales pitches" from the other companies we called. In every instance Mr. Lampl gave us the science behind which are the facts. He did not "BS" us or treat us as dumb sheeple with home owners insurance. During the testing process Ed was more than happy to show what he was doing AND WHY. This is important. First because it showed the level of experience and second, his knowledge based in facts. During the time Mr Lampl was in our home I felt that I had received a mini "hands on" education that far exceeded anything I could have learned from doing Google searches and by talking to the other company representatives who mostly wanted to "up sell" while quoting the basic dumbed down answers. After the testing was done Ed Lampl (who is also a CERTIFIED Home Inspector) took the time to inform us of the next steps in regards to when the lab results would be expected and the strict standards of the 3rd party lab he was using. He also provided A CHAIN OF CUSTODY DOCUMENT! Ed also holds numerous certification in environmental areas which is another plus. I want to offer some advice here, if your mold removal company does "in house" testing then you are about to be scammed. They care about the "income" and not your OUTCOME. With HomePlusIsUs it was more about the OUTCOME and not the income. You and your family's health should be that important to you to discern the difference. When I mentioned the comparison was stark, I was not lying. Also while Ed was here we were treated as if we were his family which was greatly reassuring as we are not experts (but we had one working for us). In essence he "has our backs". Afterwards Mr. Lampl did not rush out when the testing was completed and in fact I thought "Ed was losing his butt on all the time he spent with us". In addition, Ed Lampl always kept his word on numerous things he promised and in fact over delivered which is unheard of today. Being "old school" this meant something to me as I was raised that a "man's word is his bond". Ed also is old school which is rare in today's "come on quick buck" society. At the risk of sounding cliché' "if you experience the best there is no need to try the rest..." Like your family HomePlusIsUs IS THE BEST.

Ed was professional and did a thorough job. He took me around the house with him and explained all the problems and potential problems. He was eager for me to know the house. I chose Ed based on his other Angies List reviews. When I first contacted him, he answered the phone right away. He began explaining what his inspection would include, along with a quote that was right on. He was available on the date we requested and showed up on time. In fact, he was already inspecting the exterior before we even got there. The home inspection went very well and he took the time to show my husband and I, not only issues that came up, but also things we would need to know regarding general home maintenance. He suggested we also do a mold test in the basement due to noticeable water marks in the basement. I'm very happy we did, because there ended up being a significant mold issue in the basement which required attention. He recommended a mold remediation company that did extensive work in the basement. Ed then came back to do a post remeditation reading all within a small window of time due to the sellers wanting to close before the new year. Everyone worked hard and fast to complete the jobs even during the busy holiday weeks. Lastly, Ed provided an extensive inspection report that came in handy during the negotiating phase of the home buying process. I highly recommend Ed for an honest inspection and would definitely call him in the future if his services were ever needed. He's an honest guy, that I felt truly looks out for the consumer.

Ed was very professional and thorough. All aspects of the inspection were clearly explained. The information was placed into a computer in real time and given to me not only via email, but via thumbdrive for future reference. NO stone was left unturned regarding the condition of the home. The inspection lasted almost 7 hours and I was at Ed's side the whole time. I definitely received my bang for the buck. Zefon international - products are used internationally including New Zealand “one of the air quality capitals”. Using certified bio pumps cleaned with hydrogen peroxide wipes after each use ensures there is no cross-contamination. Bleach is not used to wipe down the pumps because the microscopic spore root systems are not killed with this product, which is a common misconception. Each sample has factory sealed tape - assuring our cassettes have not been tampered with. Each sample is carefully handled and re-sealed with the original tape – always making sure our cassettes are never expired - cassettes expire like medicine. Every outside baseline sample/comparison test is always 10 min./10 in.² - there is never a reason to change the exterior area (square inches). You should always change / location if the conditions are not correct, such as to much particulate at the location. Ragweed-etc, does not require changing the (area ) square inches. A 5 min. /5 in.² outside sample is not recommended internationally. We only use a national lab where the samples are carefully read, sometimes several times which is part of the quality assurance protocol of the laboratory. If you ever watched true TV or Court TV - this lab does over 50% of the metal's testimony in those cases. Swab testing should be performed in conjunction with air testing. In some cases using a luminometer (instant bacteria level) may indicate the necessity of swab testing. Rossen Reports: Are mold contractors charging for unneeded work? Ed performed the work in a professional and timely manner. Ed was very thorough and honest with the inspection and provided us helpful hints on what we could do to make the house better. Ed?s work should be modeled by all inspectors. He takes a Windows tablet with him wherever he goes in the house and has software on the tablet that used voice recognition to create the report. Some examples of his extended dedication include the garage roof. The garage roof was a little high to be climbing on in the dead of winter, so Ed used a projection pole with a video camera mounted on it to inspect the roof. He then uses still pictures from this movie to include in his report. AWESOME WORK ED!!! Another good thing about Ed is that he recommends the buyers perform questioning. He never takes offense with questioning. In fact, he welcomes it. He took some of my dumbest questions and explained a solution tactful. Finally, Ed encourages you bring a USB drive the day of inspection. He takes all pictures and movies and downloads them on to your USB drive so you can review the pictures prior to the report being generated. I would definitely recommend Ed?s services again. I enjoyed his company while my wife and I were making the single most important purchasing decision in our life. You can rest assured, that Ed will go to extraordinary lengths to complete a thorough inspection.

Ed Lampl met with me last week to inspect a large late Victorian house that my wife and I are considering purchasing. Unfortunately the weather was rainy and freezing, however that did not stop Mr. Lampl from providing a thorough and complete inspection. From roof to basement, inside and out, I was shown all the issues with the home that I would never have known were potential problems. He brought along his generator to check the electric in the house since this it was not possible to turn it on though the utilities company at the time. (he charged an extra fee for this service) The best part about his service was he was kind enough to give advice and tips on repairs, including where to find local supplies for those repairs. This was certainly appreciated because the house is so old and we would like to restore it to its original condition as much as possible. Mr. Lampl audio recorded his findings that were immediately transferred to a PDF document, along with the photos he took. When he was finished he handed me a thumb drive with all the information on it. I would highly recommend Mr. Lampl for your structural inspection needs!

It went better than I expected. The house is vacant, and so when I arrived a few minutes early, he was already there, checking everything out. He spent a lot of time taking pictures of everything that needed repairing, and spent time explaining and showing me what was wrong and how it needed to be fixed. Being a mother with children, it means a lot to me that he took extra time and effort checking for mold. He checked everything, he even let me look into the attic and made certain that the bathroom fans were vented outside and not into the attic which causes mold. He checked every nook and cranny as if it was his own home. Some insulation fell out of the attic when he opened the door, and he cleaned it himself. He was very careful not to scratch the walls when he was carrying his ladder in the house. He spent over 2 hours in the house explaining everything to me. He really went the extra mile many times over in many ways. His motto is that the house inspection is about the buyer, no one else, and he truly proved it to me. He is very personable and easy to understand. I learned a lot about many parts of a house, furnace, etc. that I didn't know before. I feel so much more informed and knowledgeable after working with Ed. I am happy that I chose him from Angie's List. I highly recommend him to anyone that wants to truly have peace of mind that every possible problem has been addressed before purchasing their home!
Description of Work: Ed did a very complete house inspection for me. He checked everything, from the furnace, air conditioning, electrical, mold, looked at windows, doors, etc.
