Description of Work: UGI Heating, Cooling & Plumbing replaced the thermocouple on my gas furnace a week ago. The part that lets the gas come in was clogged so they cleaned that out and put that new thermocouple in. I also got a new thermostat so they replaced the old one.

+ -1 moreEverything turned out well. The person that came did a fine job. He did say he would call between noon and five and he showed up at six but that was okay given how busy he was. He did not have the sensor on his truck and he said that was due to each sensor being different. They did clean the sensor and it is a temporary fix. They did the same repair a month ago and they have ordered the part. This was same day service and he was very busy.
Description of Work: This was a Big Deal for 10% off an annual HVAC service agreement - includes parts & labor! The cost for that was $179.00. This was for the water heater, air conditioner, and furnace. They came to do a repair on a sensor for a gas furnace. The sensor was defective as the heating was turning on an off over and over and it would not stay on, the system just kept cycling.

+ -1 moreOn January 14, 2013, I used a coupon to have my furnace cleaned and serviced. The gentleman did an excellent job. Since the furnace was over 20 years old, he recommended upgrading before it quit, as it is located in the ceiling crawl space. Over the next nine months, I contacted several Heating and A/C contractors, including Mike Evangelista from UGI. On September 5, he arrived and we discussed a split system. Unfortunately, I needed permission from the Condo Association to move the unit to the side of the condo (rather than in the back). Several weeks later, the gentleman from the association told me that he had made an appointment with Mike, but Mike never showed.
Description of Work: Furnace was cleaned and serviced, via coupon. Consulted company for estimate to replace heating and A/C unit.

+ -1 moreThey did not communicate their expectations that they would call ahead of time to confirm someone was home. As a result a family member wasted 3 hours waiting for them. When I called to inquire, UGI "apologetically" said they found the serviceman and he would swing by to do the installation. Three hours later he still never arrived with my family member still waiting for them at my house! I called UGI again and demanded I speak with a supervisor. I did. He bluntly told me to have the unit installed by someone else. I was completely taken aback!! I demanded they come back and install the unit even though it was now after 5PM. He arrived and the first thing out of his mouth was that he didn't really want to be there. They claimed to not have the "parts" to install that evening. I demanded the upcoming Saturday, as not to lose any more time or work time, they reluctantly did. $500 later, no apology or discount, my unit was installed.

+ -1 moreIt was an easy fix. Provider came out at 7PM on a Friday night. It was a simple matter of adjusting the gas valve on the water tank, with instruction to put vents on the closet doors where the unit was housed. Although I questioned the service tech about a new water heater, he assured me it was not necessary. I know of other companies who would have jumped on that opportunity to make an unnecessary sale, so I can't say enough how much I appreciated the honesty!
Description of Work: Work was done under contract - having problems with Hot Water Heater.

Then the second time I called to set up an appointment, they didn't serve my area. The company was polite and responsive when I did speak to them.

+ -1 moreUGI arrived on time, did a thorough check of our system and provided a detailed explanation of what was needed to correct the problem (we had a leak in the freon coils.). He gave us options and suggested we meet with the UGI salesman for more details which we did within a few days. UGI salesman was factual and not pushy. He presented options for fixing our air conditioner. The explanation included what tax credits and rebates would be available to us. We ultimately decided to have UGI replace our air conditioner because of its age. We were very pleased with the work done--it was completed on time, the team was very professional and patiently answered our questions. Finally, our basement was cleaner when they left than when they arrived.
Description of Work: Assessed cause and repair need for our air conditioner which stopped working.

+ 1 moreI bought a home that hadn't had the boiler serviced in 6 years. It also is my first home with radiator heat. UGI gave me a window of 12-5 for when their repair man would be out. He called ahead of time to let me know he was near (at 1:30) which was great. He serviced the boiler. He also fixed an improperly angled vent line from the gas water heater to the chimney. The repair man was awesome as he answered questions and was very knowledgeable. He let me know how to bleed air from the radiators and where the shut off's were, as well as how to flush sentiment from the water heater every 6 months. UGI's service cost was $100 less than two other "A" rated Angie's List members. It was only $135 for the service and $25 to fix the vent line. I figure, if my gas bill goes to UGI, why not give them a shot at service. They were excellent.

+ -1 moreOur oil furnace died and we were looking for estimates to convert to a gas furnace and hot water heater. I called UGI for an estimate. It took them over a week to get back to me. When they finally did he said he could come in about two to three weeks to give us an estimate. I explained that our furnace was broken now and we had hoped to have it installed by that time. He apologized and said they "were really busy". It just seemed to me that they were really lacking in their customer service and have that persona of being the only "game in town" when it comes to gas service.

I have had things repaired in the past. If we have their contract we get service right away. If our heater breaks and it is 20 degrees outside they come right out. They are quite a company and it is nice to stay with them.

They worked with me, my time constraints,and limited knowledge of furnaces as well as the different service plans offered by UGI for major household appliances. Angie's List personnel worked tirelessly as well to put me at ease with purchasing coupons after the initial discovery that my furnace was not functioning properly. Angie's List personnel not only got all of my questions answered directly from UGI, they provided me with copies of all correspondence that identified me to UGI so that there could be no misunderstanding during my dealings, e.g. switch & bait, with UGI. I highly recommend both Angie's List as well as UGI. I am so glad I joined Angie's List and have recommended this company to several friends after relaying to them my experience. I've seen service men work in friend's homes always aware of the mess left behind and misunderstandings between homeowners and service company. That was not my experience at all, I was so impressed with my experience as well as everyone's attempt to get me the most discounts available for this furnace and installation. Thank you to all involved with the installation of my new furnace.
Description of Work: The service was performed in an extremely professional manner. Had to have new furnace installed. The workmen and their supervisor arrived promptly and immediately went to work removing old furnace so new furnace could be installed. The Supervisor explained all necessary modifications needed in a very friendly manner and answered all of my questions. The workmen were extremely polite and respectful of my home, they kept the entire work area as clean and neat as possible. No breaks were taken by the service men rather they worked continuously while on the premises. When the new thermostat was installed, they explained how thermostat worked, how to replace the backup battery and installed carbon monoxide detector outside the bedrooms. I was extremely impressed with the entire experience and was thrilled that all of my questions were answered so that I comprehended not only how the new furnace worked but the smart technology and regular homeowner maintenance necessary to keep the unit working at the highest efficiency. The initial service man provided me with a additional coupon towards the new furnace once it was determined that fixing the old furnace was not cost effective. Because it was not cost effective to fix the old furnace, UGI did not charge me or use the Angie's List coupon for the three service calls, rather UGI applied the Angie's List coupon towards the purchase and installation of the new furnace instead. The initial service man, the furnace sales man as well as the installers and their supervisor were so helpful during the entire process. I felt at ease throughout the entire process and am grateful to have had this service performed by such knowledgeable professionals.

+ 1 moreThey were real pros. I had to push a bit to get it scheduled, but I'm sure they are booked! They came on the date and completed in 2 days as expected. They walked me through the system and left the place spotless. My oil budget was $197 per month (12 months), my gas budget at this point, $48 per month, orth every penny for the new system, and I also now have gas cooking. Love it! Strongly recommend if you want confidence in the result.
Description of Work: Conversion from oil boiler furnace heating system to new energy efficient natural gas boiler heating system, with on demand hot water. Old system was removed and new system was wall mounted freeing floor space and eliminating need for chimney. Gas line run for new gas cooking range, electrical run & stove connected and tested.
