I tried calling at the beginning of the month, the 3rd. It said his mailbox was full so I couldn't leave a message. I sent an email with my phone number and what I needed done. 4 days later he contacted me via email and asked if he could stop on Wednesday the 9th to look at my roof. I said sure. I sent an email the next day asking how it went and haven't heard from him again.
Description of Work: Needed a roof certification for Insurance and estimate of any repairs needed.

I purchased this as a "big deal" coupon after facing the wrath of Super Storm Sandy. Initially, there was some phone tag back and forth as the company and I were trying to make contact. The estimated date of service was pretty far into the future; however, JW surprised me by completing the work on an earlier date. I was not home at the time the work was completed; however, I was not too worried because I was told during the phone consultation that Jerry from JW would be performing the work and that photos would be taken to show before and after conditions of the roof. Unfortunately it has been two weeks since the work was completed and the photos have not been received. After a follow-up call, Jerry explained that he had been very busy with other "big deal" coupons and would try to get the photos to me within 5 days. Hopefully, I can update with positive feedback. UPDATE: After some pretty fierce winter wind storms, I had another contractor look over the property before the Spring rains hit. He found damage from Super Storm Sandy that SHOULD have been found/replaced by JW Contractors in mid-December. Jerry has NOT returned repeated phone calls and NEVER sent the emails of "work that was done." I am now beginning to think that NO WORK WAS PERFORMED and I was robbed of $149. I wanted to give this company the benefit of the doubt given the other positive feedback that I have read; however, this recent discovery coupled with JW Contractor's lack of punctuality, professionalism, and responsiveness have led me to change my rating of this company.
Description of Work: JW Contractors inspected and made minor repairs to my roof. A small piece of fascia (flashing) had been ripped off the side of my house during Super Storm Sandy. This piece was replaced along with a general tidying up of the rooftop. UPDATE: Another roofing professional who just inspected the property believes NO WORK WAS DONE BY JW CONTRACTORS.

Jerry contacted me shortly thereafter and set up,a date to check my roof. they arrived on time and checked out my whole roof for leaks, loose shingles and popped nails. They also caulked my sky lights and around my chimney, I was very pleased that they cleaned out my gutters which wasn't covered by the package. Jerry did find a problem on the one side of my roof and will be getting back to me with an estimate for repair. He took a picture of the problem with his phone so that I would be Able to see what was wrong. Jerry was very professional and I will certainly use him again for any future problems with my roof.

The men arrived exactly when they said they would, and before they began to work everything they were going to do was completely explained. We were particularly impressed with the straight forward explanation and honesty concerning the several p'aces where the roof appeared to be buckling, and the simple corrective action that was taken. Without hesitation or reservation, we would use this company again for repairs, maintenance, and of course the installation of a new roof.
Description of Work: Every flashing was inspected and caulked, every "nail" securing the gutters were inspected and tapped in. Likewise the ridge vent was similarly inspected nail by nail. In several places where the shingles had shifted, they were repositioned properly and adhered in place.

Jerry Werel, the owner, made the whole roofing experience as close to enjoyable as roofing can be. Not only was his quote surprisingly reasonable, his crew was great, and his customer service and follow-up are beyond my expectations. Materials used: GAF products including Timberline HD shingles in Hickory, Weather Watch Leak Barrier, and TimberTex Premium Ridge Cap. Plus felt underlayment, drip edges, ridge vents, flange pipes and rubber where needed. They also installed new flashing and even built flashing in places (potential trouble spots) not included in the quote (around a gutter on the front of the house, and where the old chimney was) at no additional cost. We have a huge 150+ year old house with several steep and oddly-shaped roof lines. We also had an old chimney venting our gas water heater, but the chimney was falling apart and leaking water into our house. Prior to the roofing, we had an electric water heater installed so that the chimney issue could be resolved permanently. When we first contacted JW Contractors, we explained that we wanted a new roof as soon as possible due to the chimney leaks and the fact that we would be putting the house up for sale before the holidays. Jerry said he was booked solid, but he would do his best to get to us ASAP. Only a few days later, he contacted us asking if he could start the next day due to a major scheduling change. Hooray! Amazingly, we got the new roof completed just days before Superstorm Sandy hit. His scheduling change probably saved us thousands of dollars in repairs if we still had that old chimney leaking during the hurricane. On the Monday that Sandy started pounding the Lehigh Valley, we noticed some water spots forming on our living room ceiling/walls where there is a small porch roof overhanging. We panicked and called Jerry, who said he'd come out ASAP. A short time later he was there to see what was happening inside. The man went up on a ladder on the porch roof in the hurricane to fill in gaps with caulk. We really did not expect that. It turns out that those gaps had nothing to do with the roofing or anything JW Contractors did. The hurricane-force winds were driving rain in through tiny gaps around the windows, not the shingles, and it was really no one's fault, but Jerry did the best he could to stop the worst of the leaking. (End result is that we have a little bit of drywall to repair, but insurance covered it, and it was not the fault of JW Contractors. All of the roofing work performed flawlessly during the hurricane, and you can bet we were sweating that being the first test. No trial run with a little bit of rain - full on tropical storm!) A few days after Sandy passed, Jerry came back to check on the leaking areas. Even though he didn't have to, he and one of his guys spent a few hours sealing around upstairs windows to prevent future water leaks. He also built a new section of gutter where rain water had been splashing awkwardly on another section of porch roof. Finally, he removed some old gutter guards that got mangled in the storm. All of this follow-up service was completed at no charge to us. Seriously. Can you beat that? What else should you know about this experience? Jerry explained everything they were doing every step of the way. His crew was good-natured, professional, polite and I didn't see any of them loafing around for even a minute of the four days the main job required. They arrived bright and early, barely daylight, and worked to dusk. They cleaned up every day, and at the end of the job boss Jerry made the final pass with the magnet to check the crew's clean up. This was very important to us since we have a dog and worried about stray nails in the grass where she roams. Invariably, you find a few stragglers clinging to the spaces between the deck boards, but for a job this size, I give them a "A" for clean up. At the end, we paid only $75 over the original quote for plywood that needed to be replaced. That's something you don't know until the old roof is pulled up, though. I expected a lot worse with that leaking chimney. tldr; I really can't say enough good things about JW Contractors. If I wasn't buying a nearly-new house, I'd pay travel costs for Jerry and his guys to come put a roof on at the new place in West Virginia. One additional note: Please do not be put off by Jerry's accent when you first make contact. My husband, who happens to be French and also had an accent at one time, found Jerry hard to understand over the phone, but if you take the time to listen, I guarantee it will be worth your while.
Description of Work: JW Contractors removed and replaced our entire roof, including several small porch roofs. Additionally, they dismantled an old failing chimney and built appropriate roofing over that area to abate water leakage.

Overall I would say the work was done but, I felt the lack of follow up and any paper trail was negative. I would prefer a more professional company in the future.
Description of Work: We had the roof maintainence/tuneup done. The contractor had no paperwork. We did not receive a receipt for the payment. They said we would receive images of the roof. We never received any images. The contractor seemed knowledgable and I have to assume the work was done properly because we had a minor leak and the leak has stopped.

Terrible. Will not recommend this contractor again.
Description of Work: We decided not to use this contractor for several reasons. At first we were pleased that this roofer came out immediately to provide an estimate. However, the experience quickly deteriorated from their. The contractor said that they would provide us with an estimate within 2 days. Unfortunately, we received the estimate 1 week later and for twice as much as the average cost to replace a roof based on reliable research done over the internet and discussions we had with a friend who recently replaced their roof which was comparable to our own. The average price to replace a flat roof was roughly $3,000 which matches the price our friend paid to replace his roof. The contractor gauged us after the hurricane and charged twice that amount $6000. I am sure this contractor is good under normal circumstances, but our experience demonstrated they attempted to take advantage of a home owner after a hurricane.

Overall, it was a waste of money. The gentlemen were here for about 10-15 min. One of them never even left the ladder. It stood at the same place the whole time. The other man walked around on the roof, then came down and told me I need a new roof. Nothing else was said. No explanations. About a day later I went on the roof to see what was done, absolutely nothing. My roof was exactly the way it was befor they came. I just got an email of an estimate and what he said needed to be done. The whole roof he said. Im glad to say I found another company who explained everything to me and was very pleasant. Stay away, Its a waste of money..

Jerry and crew just finished our roof and we are completely satisfied by the job done both in quality of workmanship and timely completion. They finished the work in a day and a half (in record breaking temperatures). It did take a while to get the job started (which some previous reviewers might have had an issue with) but that is because good contractors are very busy contractors. Jerry always responded to my emails or calls in less than 24 hours and the job was started on the date promised. Furthermore, in this case no money exchanged hands until the job was completed to my satisfaction. Even with a signed contract that is very rare these days. At the start of the job the crew took great care to protect the extensive plantings surrounding our house. Yes a little debris fell here or there as is inevitable but they carried all the old roofing material to the driveway end of the house instead of just throwing it off where ever they felt like. Every bit of old shingles, flashing, and paper were removed and separated out for recycling. Next the supplier that delivered the materials to the site has worked extensively with JW and they really know their stuff which is a detail that is not always obvious. At this time of year materials need to be delivered early in the morning or else the truck would damage your driveway. This driver managed to back up a large flatbed with jib crane up a short, narrow, and hilly tree-lined driveway with minimal damage to the overhanging trees. During the job Jerry kept me apprised of the work progress and made sure that all was done to my satisfaction. The rest of the crew was also quite friendly and responsible. At the end of the first day they completely cleaned up every last nail and scrap of debris making sure that no nails were left in the driveway (or anywhere else). Our yard and driveway were cleaner than before they started the job. Furthermore they left the house in a state of completion that made sure everything was watertight even though the shingling and finish work was not 100% done. The next day part of the crew returned to finish the job which was all taken care of by lunch time. All the flashing and drip edge is new and they preserved (or improved) the junctions of the siding to the roof. Chimney flashing was done as a single piece too which looks much nicer than pieced together pieces of aluminum. Finally the site was cleaned up again and they made sure that I was satisfied with the completed roof. Choosing a roofing contractor is not an easy job. JW was neither the cheapest nor the most expensive. However for the money paid I found them to be an exceptional value. Jerry has an Old World standard of craftsmanship and way of doing business that belies his age. Nothing flashy, just an excellent job at a very reasonable price. That's reason that they are so booked up and in demand. I would not hesitate to recommend JW to anyone for roofing and will definitely consider them for work in the future.

I found this company on Angie's list, rated with an A overall. I felt confident in requesting an estimate from this company for some repair work that is much needed on my roof. I sent a message (email) through Angie's List and was contacted promptly by a representative. We scheduled an appointment to have an estimate provided. When I mentioned that I would be taking a 1/2 day vacation in order to be home for the appointment, the representative told me that wasn't necessary and offered to come out after hours to take a look. I was really pleased with where it was going. Appointment was scheduled for 6:00pm on Tuesday, June 26th. So far, so good but this is where it goes down hill. On June 26th, 6:00pm came and went. 6:05 came and went. Still no real problem. I understand things happen; you get stuck in traffic, the customer at your last appointment asks a million questions, etc. Although, a call would be appropriate if you're going to be late. 6:15, 6:20 came and went. Finally at 6:25pm I get a call from a gentlemen saying the representative who scheduled the appointment was out of the state and wasn't going to make it. He said he could come out if I really wanted him to but that he was 45 minutes away and wasn't yet finished with the prior customer. In other words, it would be around 8:00pm before he showed up. I told him to forget about it. He said he would have the original rep call me to schedule another appointment. I say, what's the point? If I can't trust you to keep your word about a simple appointment, I'm certainly not going to trust you to repair the roof over my family's head. I'm not going to trust you'll do the work correctly, charge me a fair price, use quality materials, resolve any issues that may arise from work not being done correctly, etc. If I can't trust your word, I can't trust you or your company. Bottom line. I find it hard to believe that no one could call me ahead of time, even earlier that day, if it was known that the person who scheduled the appointment wasn't going to be able to make it and no replacement was available. I don't imagine he suddenly found himself "out of state" 25 minutes after the scheduled appointment. Still looking for a good, honest roofing contractor. Sorry to say, there don't seem to be many. This problem has repeated itself for nearly a year now. Work must be booming. And, even more disappointing, Angie's List hasn't helped. I came here and paid for a membership after all other avenues to find a reputable contractor failed. I settled on 4 A-rated contractors and sent each of them a message. JW is the only one I heard from and it didn't turn out as I had hoped. Guess I won't be renewing my membership here either. The hunt continues.

We had a minor leak in the roof, and we were looking for someone to come and check it. They had a special on Angie’s List, to do an inspection at a lower price, so we called them. They came out when they promised, they were very good, and they did exactly what they promised to do. They said that the roof was sound, and if they found any bad vent pipes they would fix them and they did, we were very, very pleased with them. We dealt with Jerry Werel, and he is the president of the company. He was very honest, and very upfront, not blaming anybody else for what was wrong. He just told me that the particular brand of pipe was prone to deterioration early. I was worried about what he would come up with, that he would probably tell me that I needed something here and there, but I was very pleased that he didn’t hike it up and do something that didn’t need to be done. He was very responsive, they did it within days of us calling him, and he was punctual, they were here right at eight o’clock in the morning, just like he said they would be. He was extremely professional, he told us what was wrong, how long the fix he had done would work, and when we may need future service.
Description of Work: We had JW Contractors come and give us an overall evaluation of our roof, and to repair a minor leak which we suspected to be in the vent pipes.
