Went pretty good, but time will tell if branches were trimmed enough. Surprised no chain saws were used for any of this job. This was explained on site during job. Im not a tree expert so perhaps they did what was appropriate. Workers were very professional and respectful and hard working. I just thought more of some branches would be trimmed to be made shorter in length. They did go all the way to top of every tree, 2 fir and 2 western cedar about 60 to 70 ft tall.
Description of Work: Several large trees trimmed, to reduce weight on limbs, added 1 cable for support. Kinda on the fence whether, i would hire again. They did spend the whole day working 8 to 530pm.

What made them so good was the communication. He took the time to care about every one of our concerns and not just say, "oh yeah we'll take of it" because we have a lot of different kinds of trees. I had specific questions, and he took the time. Whether or not we actually did anything or not, he took the time with us. Therefore, we signed the paper.

They were responsive to inquiry, appointment for estimate and scheduling. Pulled in a few days as they were doing work in neighborhood. The completed the trimming in about 30-45 minutes, in discussing the trimming, stated it should help with allowing air and sun in canopy; but mostly a wait and see attitide for success. Extremely dissapointing. In attempting to discuss how we continue to maintain and/or address brown rot, they stated they did not do any type of treatments, nor could they adequately recommend treatment. They provided a referral for a partner company, why would i turn around and hire another company? I hired an arborist specifically to gain insight and knowledge to address the trees concerns and disappointed that they are only providing a tree trimming, cutting and removal service for the amount of money spent. It took approx 20 - 30 minutes to clean up (there wasn't that much cut (~10- 15 %), but I found small branches after they left by the tree and the path from the back yard to the front street. I will not use them again or recommend. I want an arborist that can and will provide complete service, not just trimming.
Description of Work: Cherry tree that needed maintenance trimming, for brown rot (?) and general health. Arborist input on maintaining tree and addressing issues, provide information and plan to get tree healthy.

We were very pleased with Oregon Tree Care from start to finish. They were prompt, courteous, and professional, and provided a free estimate before we made our final decision. When the arborists came out, they were clearly very excited about working with our tree. They gave us specific details about what they would be doing, and why. When they were finished, they checked to make sure we were happy with the work, and gave us recommendations for how soon we would need our next service. We definitely plan to use them regularly as we need additional work.

Extremely well. All trees were nicely pruned to eliminate the sky reaching suckers and all branches that had turned in on the tree center. Pruning included removing those branches that adversely impacted the trees' structural integrity. All debris was chipped and removed. The yard was left looking as though no work had been done. We are very satisfied with this arborist's work. If I recall correctly, this is his third year to care for our trees.

They did a great job. The only complaint I have is that they missed two of the dead branches on the oak. But in their defence, it was winter time and it's difficult to catch every one. They cleaned everything up quite nicely and left the chipped wood for me to cover some ground I wanted to keep moist during the summer. The most important thing, however, is the extent to which they supported my desire for them to focus on the health of the tree. Too many services we talked to were too aggressive and were willing to sacrifice the health of the trees for nonsense reasons. They took the time to educate us during the whole process. They gave me free advice to avoid burying the roots with bark dust or anything similar because it might suffocate the tree (a very old, huge, big leaf maple) and to plant symbiotic small plants (one particular suggestion was licorice ferns) around the trunk to help the tree and avoid grass growing in those spaces. They commented on the mushrooms and whether they were a sign of health or sickness of the tree (health in this case). Etc. They even helped answer my questions about another tree that may be too close to the water line between the house and the street. Overall a great experience. They'll be back in a couple of years to check up on my trees.
Description of Work: The crew surveyed our two large trees (big leaf maple and oak), thinned their canopies, took out one branch that put the house at some risk, etc.

Oregon tree care was very professional. Dillon was on site the day our trees care down with a crew that knew what they were doing. We had 4 large Doug Fir trees and a Cedar that needed to come down in a tight backyard. They took each tree down with precision. The wood from the trees was picked up by a charity that day and the next that OTC had arranged. This lessened the cost for us as well. The following week they were back out to grind the stumps. I cannot say enough good things about this company!

We had had competitive bids from two years ago (delayed because we wanted to be sure the maple was really, really dying). Oregon Tree Care was not the least expensive but they gave me the best answers to my questions, so we went without extra bids this time. Preliminary work needed to be done regarding electrical and FIOS wires. Oregon Tree Care contacted another tree company which has a contract with PGE for removing branches over electrical wires. That company brought their bucket truck and easily removed those branches prior to the other work. Also we were supposed to disconnect the FIOS wire or at least put in on the ground and cover it carefully with plywood, but the FIOS technician looked at the situation and said it was not necessary. He said he would be available the day of the work if this was really needed. In any case the Oregon Tree Care team was able bring down the tree without disconnecting the FIOS but it was nerve-wracking for all concerned. All things considered, if my husband and I were to do this specifically: take down a large, dying tree next to the street, power wires, and our FIOS line, my husband would want someone who uses a bucket truck. Everything else went smoothly. One arborist climbed to the top of the 100' fir and did his tree surgeon work on the way down. Another two worked together up in the maples. The smaller work was very quickly done. All of the men who did the trimming are certified arborists who love trees and love climbing them. They work well together and are very professional and careful. They were prompt, did what they agreed to do, cleaned up the yard, and left the trees looking much better than when they came. For advice about and care for the many mature trees in our yard, both of us look forward to working with Oregon Tree Care on an ongoing basis. They know their business very well and are a pleasure to work with.
Description of Work: 1. Remove mature maple (50') and two young douglas firs (30' and 20'); 2. Remove maple tree stump. 3. Prune two mature maples for dead branches and to decrease branch end weight and improve light penetration. 4. Prune mature douglas fir (100') of large dead branches (the neighbors had removed nearby trees) and prune small amount in crown for light penetration and air movement. 5. Trim plum tree at base of fir. 6. Cut logs for firewood; chip and haul debris.

I contacted Oregon Tree Care after a large limb broke off one of my street trees. They were quick to respond and gave me an estimate that was higher than others I received. However, I decided to use their services due to the professionalism and knowledge shown during the estimate. The arborist that I talked with was obviously interested in saving my tree and making the other trees healthier rather than hacking them down which was the option given to me by another company. They ended up pruning and thinning three trees on my lot and were very professional throughout the process. Almost no debris were left in the yard and the trees look great.

Oregon Tree Care comes and looks at what is needed ahead of time and we discuss the plan for the day. The crew works hard and they are delightful. We enjoy having them, and are happy to have a tree service that is thinking about how to care for our trees instead of what to chop down!
Description of Work: We live in a protected forest in SW Portland and are surrounded by large Maples, Doug Firs, and Cedar trees. We need to keep the forest healthy to protect our home. Oregon Tree Care has worked for us several times over the last 4 - 5 years working on general maintenance.

They first came out to review what I wanted done and how important the trees were to us and gave a fixed price. Set a date and they were on time, did an excellent job including clean up. I am retired so at home and they asked if I wanted them to explain what and why they were going to prune as they were and since I was interested and had the time they went into great detail on such things as how each tree liked sun, drip line, how the cutting would affect growth, etc. As to the persimmon, it was still in shock, under stress and they felt less, not more trimming to get its shape back into balance was better so not to add to its stress. We also discussed about tree food, fertilizer, adding mulch etc. Seems the trees are old and well established that they are getting food and not really need added fertilizer. Anyway I most appreciated the detailed explanation. Again, the work and price were outstanding. I highly recommend Oregon Tree Care Sincerely, Andrew Lippay
Description of Work: Pruned very old decorative cherry tree (like in Washington, D.C., 50+ years old, and old deciduous magnolia tree, quite old, a persimmon tree damaged by major limb breaking from weight of too much fruit, and a good size individual camilla bush to get it back off the neighbor's driveway.

We've hired Oregon Tree Care for small jobs (cutting up a fallen Douglas Fir) to very large ones: trimming and "wind sailing" several very tall trees, finally removing a huge storm-damaged tri-trunk Maple from our front yard that was located in an area surrounded by power lines! Oregon Tree Care knows what they're doing! These men are skilled problem-solvers who do their work thoughtfully, carefully, and precisely. This company's commitment to the environment and Oregon's trees is evident. And they're fun to work with! You won't regret working with this company!

The actual tree removal was very well done - they said one of our large concrete patio pavers was cracked from wood falling, but it wasn't an easy job. They made a pruning cut of a plumb tree in return for the damage. The problem came with the wood removal, which was included in the price. They left all wood removed except what they had chipped - which left an extremely large amount of wood in our back yard. After a few days, we called to remind them to pick it up. Their response was to put one of our personal cell phone numbers on craigslist without telling us, advertising: 1 1/2 cords of free wood cut to manageable pieces from recently removed tree. First come - please take it all. Call to set time to pick it up. 503-[our personal cell phone number] Our cell phone started ringing non-stop with calls from people we didn't know. We called OTC asking them to immediately take down the ad, which they did, and we proceeded to arrange the wood pickup ourselves. When the wood was finally removed, we saw that there were actually 3, not just 1 of our patio pavers broken. After numerous emails and phone calls back to OTC asking for a partial refund based on the wood removal portion of the bill, we got no response from the owner. A couple of months later, after more phone calls, we finally got them to come out and grind the stump. Dylan did grind it to ground-level but that was it. We had talked to them about doing an extensive grind below ground level to keep the allianthus from coming back, but this didn't happen. We asked Dylan to please speak with the owner and see if we could have them come out and trim some trees at a discount in return for the amount paid for wood removal that didn't happen. He said "oh, well removal wasn't included" - I showed him the itemized invoice in which it clearly states: "Remove all wood from job site" and "Total includes all work detailed above." He said we were getting a great deal on the stump grinding. I said that $75 was quoted to us long ago. After quite a long back and forth, he said he and OTC would make it up to us, that they had fired someone on the crew, hired better office help and were now back on track. They would call us soon and come out to look at trees to trim to make up for the difference. We never heard from them again. We paid another professional to come out and grind the stump way down below ground-level so that the allianthus would not return. We could have had another crew come out, extract the tree, and leave the wood for us to deal with for less money. So we ended up paying for removal of wood that we ended up removing ourselves and twice for the stump grinding. We liked these guys after the extraction, but after all the incredibly bad communication and even outright dishonesty in the weeks and months following, we could never recommend this company.
Description of Work: After seeing the ratings on Angie's List and doing a lot of research, we decided to go with Oregon Tree Care to completely remove a large Allianthus (Tree of Heaven) in our back yard. The price included rigging, extraction, cutting the stump to ground level and removal of all wood from the job site. For $75 they would come back and do a deep stump-grinding.

I thought they were really good. They were quick and very professional. They do a lot of things throughout the community by pruning trees. You don’t get somebody who does not know what they are doing.

They arrived and introduced themselves, set up their chipper and began pruning small branches with a long handled chain saw. They were careful about making sure that wires, neighbors cars, etc. were safe. One of the guys then rigged up and climbed the tree, again making sure stuff below was safe, and gradually took the rest of the tree down. They cleaned up as they went, and stacked the wood in the parking strip, having cut it to fireplace lengths. Everything was cleaned up and the whole process took a little over an hour and a half. They did the work yesterday and will be by to grind the stump soon.

Overall the experience went very well. Team was punctual and introduced themselves to me. Cleanup was well done. Only concern was that the neighbor's asked the team not to touch much of the laurelwood hedge on their side, and the team did listen to them and left their side more full. I spoke to Damien about this a few days afterwards and they offered to come out and finish the neighbor's side if we wanted but we spoke to the landlord of that property and left it as in. The team did a great job and I would definitely hire them again.
