We used Steve Mayberry and his brother for our new roof in 2001. At that time, we were impressed with Steve and his team, so we decided to ask him about installing new skylights. (We didn't review the roofing job as we were not members of Angie's List at that time.)
The total cost of the job was $1050 which included $250 each for the three skylights (which must have been about his cost) and $100 each for installation. His guy had to go pick up the skylights and drive out to our house (which took at least an hour), install the skylights, and haul away the old skylights. We thought the total of $300 for installation/haul off seemed a bargain . If I had known it was that easy and that inexpensive to have beautiful, new skylights, I would have done this much earlier.
A couple days after having the skylights installed, we had a guy pressure wash the dead moss off the roof and asked him to stay away from the new skylights. During that job, a lot of water and roof debris was blown into the house through the new skylights. I admit that the timing of these jobs was my own stupid mistake. I called Steve and asked if I should be worried that there might be chunks of debris under the seals, and he said he would send someone over to re-install the skylights. The worker re-installed the three new skylights and also a fourth one that they had not replaced, checking and cleaning the seals of each one. Steve refused to take any money for that additional work. I insisted on paying something, and we finally agreed that I could give a few dollars ($50) to the worker he would send over, but Steve wouldn't take any more money himself.
I feel very confident recommending Steve for a new roof or skylights or vents for fans.
Within the last few months we noticed a couple of dried water spots around light fixtures in our kitchen and around our skylight. Time to replace the roof. I dug out Mayberry Roofing's card and also got bids from three other companies to tear off the old roof, re-roof with architectural shingles, replace the skylight, vents and gutter guards and re-flash around all pipes.
It quickly became evident that there are two basic approaches to roofing. 1. Send out a large crew and do the tear-off and replacement in one or two days. 2. Use a small crew of experienced people who do one section of roof at a time and closely watch over the quality of repair and replacement of the roof over 3-5 days. Either way works well and can keep your interior dry during the process. The prices for both are also very similar.
We chose Mayberry Roofing because we wanted as much experience and care applied to our new roof as we could get. That is exactly what we got. I had a hip replacement one week before they started, so we were home during the entire job.
* The crew was on site every day before 8am, and waited until 8 am to start their compressor.
* Everyone on the crew knew exactly what to do and was capable of doing it without supervision.
* Kenny Mayberry, the foreman, kept us informed of all issues and progress. He also made sure the roof was completely clean before laying down any new material
* Whenever a crew member was on the ground he could be seen picking up any debris around the house if he had a moment.
* They had a small radio on the roof which was never turned up enough to be heard by anyone else.
* Steve Mayberry came by the job every day and could be found cleaning up around the job site too, even though he is nursing a bicep injury. He also drove all over town to find the exact gutter guards we had requested.
* The crew requested to work through the weekend to take advantage of the light rain forecast, and they showed up at 8am as usual.
Overall we could not have found a more experienced, disciplined, friendly roofing company. We may have been able to save a little by getting a big fast-moving crew, but that is not what we wanted. Now we have complete confidence that our new roof is truly going to last, and that any issues that arise will be handled by Steve and Kenny properly. Excellent Job!
