Anyway, the work seems to be fine, I just feel like I was taken advantage of on prices and will not be going back.
"Thanks for the good word [member name removed]! Always happy to get you to and from home when your without your car."
Took it in 0800 Thursday AM, got a call toward noon telling me the ball joints are fine, and that the idler and pitman arms were worn to the point of it being a safety issue, but the good news is it would be cheaper. I'll leave it to the reader to speculate on how many garages would have done both jobs, even if the ball joints didn't need replacing. At that time I also asked them to attend to the fluids and filters that had been a bit neglected as well, which they did.
The car was there overnight, so early this afternoon I stopped by to check on it. I was told it would be finished later this afternoon, and that's exactly what happened. While I was there, I asked to see the work in progress, and it turned out Clay himself was working on it. He escorted me into the garage, lifted the car a little higher so I could see, and also showed me the parts he had removed. I wasn't checking up because I don't trust him, I just wanted to understand what was going on, and he was very nice about it.
When I picked the car up this afternoon, I saw right away that they had even washed it too! That was a nice touch that I appreciate. To be perfectly candid, the price was not a bargain, but it was a fair price for fair work, and that's all we can expect, right? They do good work, run a solid business with people that know what they're doing, and that costs money.
Beth, Dan, and Clay were all very professional and courteous, and it's nice to see a local family business that I can walk to from my home doing well, and I find it very rewarding to spend my money THERE. I would not hesitate to recommend Clays to my neighbors and friends.
Since then, I take my car in for regular work. Being a 1997 CRV, it does need attention from time to time. When the fuel gauge stopped working, they ordered the part. But when they actually removed and cleaned the original part, it worked, so they put in back in, and only charged me a minimum service fee. They also said if the gauge failed again within 3 months and did need the new part, they would not charge for labor again. The exact same thing happened with the motor for the rear windshield wiper. They fixed it rather than replacing it, again for a minor service charge.
This is typical of their care and service, and I recommend them to anyone who will listen.
Clay's Auto Service has serviced my car and my wife's care several times. I trust them completely!
"[member name removed]- So sorry that we were not as responsive as we should have been. I would love to find out from you where we dropped the ball since I cannot find a record of work performed on your vehicles in our system. Where you just getting a phone estimate? -- Beth"
