Description of Work: Installed 4 heat pump units. Price is cost before rebates and tax deductions. All of the people we dealt with were top quality - from initial assessment and bid, to installers and craftsmen.

Description of Work: Pre-paid maintenance, with some fixits later (external thermostat, etc.). Since I have a pre-paid agreement, I'll stick with them until it runs out. Heat pump is 13 years old, the tech told me it's on it's way out (although EWEB says they should be good for 20 years, which makes me wonder about the quality of their product). Technician smelled strongly of room deodorant, which was highly offensive (even though I told him that the first time he visited).

The only negative thing I felt was the workers kept gettting called away for another project. This was always pre-arranged and I agreed when asked if it was OK. The heat pump was installed in one day, but the weatherization took longer, which was not a big deal to me since neither heat or a/c was a necessity at that time of year.
Description of Work: Home Comfort provided both my weatherization and my new ductless heat pump. I was completely satisfied with all aspects of the work. When I was getting estimates from others, it was through 2 different companies, for the heat pump and then for the inulation needed. I would recommend them to others.

Despite the bid specifications to the contrary, the geothermal system was not installed correctly. The geothermal lines were supposed to be placed at a depth of five (5') feet so they would not present a digging/trenching hazard. Instead, a full eight feet (8') from the dwelling the lines were only at a depth 38" -- placing them in a hazardous position for any future landscaping/irrigation system which might be installed in the yard. Unfortunately, our landscaping contractor, who was trenching lines for the irrigation system several months later, trenched through these shallow lines. HCH came back out and tried to shift the blame on the landscaping contractor, then turn around and offered us a "repair solution" of over $7,000. Another HVAC contractor was brought in who confirmed for us that the HCH installation was incorrect. We ended up paying $4,808 to the second contractor to repair the damaged lines. We still have concerns about whether or not the system is running as it should since the lines were installed at such a shallow depth. We made a formal complaint to the Oregon Construction Contractors Board (CCB), but company president, Jeff Elling, wrote the CCB saying that the agreement was between HCH and our general contractor, and he had no obligation to respond to our complaint as the homeowner. I've never seen such a display of arrogance. I would not hire this company to work in your home for any reason.
Description of Work: Home Comfort Heating was hired by our general contractor to install a two geothermal HVAC systems as part of the construction of a single family home. This is brand-new construction (not a remodel) so HCH had full and complete access to the dwelling throughout the construction process and had every opportunity to install the system correctly.

Response from HOME COMFORT HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING,INC
The member has no basis for his claim toward HCH and does not state the 2004 OMC code to validate his claim or position to show that the lines were to shallow. This is his opinion ,along with hyis other HVAC contractor who saw an oppurtunity. His Contractor, Bob Heistuman, that we were in contract with, did not file a claim against HCH. The proper procedure for filing a claim was thru the general contractor first, which the State of Oregon made clear to him. The member did not choose to do this. The Geo lines were part of a "header" trench which was buried below a 3’ level in the area that the pipes were cut. There is no Plumbing or Mechanical Code for the depths of these types of lines, but they are buried at a very sufficient depth and are as deep as the average domestic water lines and electrical lines going to most homes. The main geothermal lines out in the geothermal field were buried at a much deeper level. This is typical installation practice for this type of job. What he also does not state is that the when we installed the lines at the construction phase, the landscaping had not been started and the depth of the finished soil had not been determined by the GC, who was aware of the lines and depth. There was no set of Landscaping plans onsite at the time of instsallation for our review, Upon request for geothermal job references, we will gladly furnish you with a list of over 50 very satisfied customers that you can call. In our opinion, 3 years after the install of the geothermal system, the irrigation contractor failed to get a line “locate” before he started his digging. He also had his trencher set to a depth lower than required for landscaping water lines. HCH has an excellent reputation for taking care of their customers for over 18 years.

They were prompt and thorough. Two different teams did each separate job. Initially the ceiling team were supposed to install some vents as well, but the structure didn't allow for that. Communication with the home office was very good. Michelle was especially helpful. She set up all the paperwork for our refund from the energy company, all we had to do was sign it and mail it in, but she is the one who told us how much to expect back. Also, we ended up having a problem with our duct work separating in the untreated part of the house, I think due to the under-house team insulating the ductwork in the treated part. She had a team out within 24 hours to crawl under our inaccessible part of the house, and they restored our duct work on that side to better shape than what it was before they did the insulation. We would recommend this company for insulation work any time.
Description of Work: Attic and ceiling insulation, taking it to a R-38 value. A small house, only 585 square feet, $430. Also Floor insulation, which had to have wood lattice installed to hold in place. They also sealed all air gaps around perimeter. Insulated around ductwork. The inspection produced several minor repairs/modifications to help improve the insulation's effectiveness. This part was $825.
