I had two corroded pipes in a wall that ruined the wall studs, insulation, dry wall, floor, and subfloor. Fred and his team took care of everything - from re-framing all the way to move-back-in! They were very professional, trusted, and did great work in a timely manner! I felt very comfortable with them at my house. Everything looks great, is done well, and I'm very satisfied! Fred is very honest and does great work. He took the time to answer all of my questions and went above and beyond what he should do. I would definetely rehire!

Fred was friendly and easy to work with. He was very clear with the work that needed to be performed and honored his bid even when the work took more effort than he anticipated. The job was well done and the fence was repaired solidly. He also shared knowledge freely that was helpful for home owners. We are hiring his crew again for another repair job. I feel we can trust Fred -- his estimates are honest and his team will do a good job.

It didn't go well as this contractor never followed up with a call. By answering his phone while in a meeting shows me he has no respect for the people that are in the meeting with him. And it's a given he has no respect for me/any new customers. By him not calling back tells me he isn't interested in any work in the future from any new clients. I have been a small business owner myself and if we didn't ever return calls we wouldn't have any customers. Frederic James Contruction is one of 5 companies that never returned my phone calls!

This is the second time I have used these guys. I couldn't be happier. The structure was supported by old log posts, with minimal cross bracing. There was no underlayment or tar paper on the roof. The original shakes were nailed into 2x4's. Frederick James reinforced the roof to the posts to prevent swaying, laid plywood and paper and then put the shakes on. It's beautiful. The crew shows up on time, cleans up after themselves and gets the job done in a timely fashion. Shakes are hard to find and expensive!. FJ worked on getting me the best possible price. I have more work to do, and I will definitely be using Frederick James.

Fred is remarkable. He is an excellent communicator, sensitive and thoughtful. At every turn he went the extra step for me. He sourced materials when I had trouble finding what I needed, he willingly picked things up, and collaborated with me on solving small and big problems that turned up as the work progressed.

Fred is a great guy. He's honest and caring, and we felt like his price was very fair. James Chad and Mike seem like good people also. All-in-all I think we lucked out by hiring these guys. They do good work and we felt safe having them in and around the house during the repair.

Fred and his crew did a marvelous job of tearing out the substandard work and replacing it. He fitted us into an already busy schedule. Our bathroom is now finished, with plumbing and electrical work that complies with building codes. He and his employees were cheerful, considerate, and punctual. They told us when they would be here and appeared when they said they would come. Even more important, their work was excellent. They listened to our ideas and responded with respect. On occasion, they gave us advice about other issues in our 1950 era house. We are very pleased with our "new" bathroom. We will definitely use Frederick James Construction again.

I gave Fred the inspection report and he and Chad did a thorough and excellent job completing many small tasks underneath the house, in the attic and around the exterior of the house.

Excellent work performed and he's scheduled to come back this summer. Looking forward to it.

Very disappointing! I had to leave work early to meet him, and he completely stood me up. When I texted to see if he was coming he said he had "spaced it" and could we reschedule? I said certainly.....and was very open in my schedule. We settled on the following Monday at 5:00. At 4:58 he texted me that he had some emergency at a job site that he had to take care of, and asked if we could reschedule (again). We settled on the following Thursday at 5:00 (today). Well, it's now 6:29 and I have not seen or heard from him. There's this nifty tool you can use to keep track of stuff....it's called a calendar....maybe he should get one.

Perfectly! Realistic time line. Kept everything neat and clean.

We hired Fred and James to install a backsplash in our kitchen around our stove. The walls were stained from grease splatter and it would bleed through when we painted over it, so we decided to install a backsplash along the entire wall. There were several outlets and shelves, as well as under-shelf lighting that required a great deal of cutting and fitting of the stainless tiles we had chosen. Fred and James did a fantastic job. They made sure everything was perfect and they were very professional and polite. The end results are even better than we imagined. It makes it seem like a completely different kitchen. We could not be more pleased. We definitely recommend their company for any job, and we already have a list of additional ones that we will be sending their way.

Ken was great. The gutters on our multi-level roof had not been cleaned in years. He not only cleaned our gutters, but he replaced gutter covers that were damaged and secured them so they would not blow away. In addition, he trimmed several limbs and trees that were close to or touching the roof and hauled away all of the debris. He treated the roof for moss and repaired any damage that he found. We are extremely happy with any work he has ever done for us.

It was great, way beyond what I was expecting. I live in an older home and nothing was square. Frederick James took the time to level the existing counters, the fireplace hearth, the front door and to replace old split sub-flooring. They kept me informed about what was going on and what was next on the agenda. When things came up, they explained what the problem was and gave me choices (if there was more than one way to solve the issue) BEFORE they moved forward. They gave me the name of a fabulous granite store, and arranged for the pieces I selected to be processed and installed by granite pros. Even with the unexpected amount of leveling and subfloor shoring, they were really close to budget and they finished everything quickly. When I changed my mind about the kitchen back splash, they gave me a reasonable estimate for my change order. These guys are professional, and know what they are doing. They are also personable. They cleaned up at the end of each day and did a through cleaning when the project was complete. This was not my first remodel, but it was by far the most pleasant and rewarding. I will use them again next year when I remodel the bathroom.

Fred did quality work and was very honest. He had lots of ideas to cost engineer the the overall price down and was very easy to work with. The end effect has completely changed the makeup of our house. Highly recommended!

This is the best experience we have ever had with a contractor. First, Ken and his staff are very punctual. They answered the phones when we called or got back to us right away if they were temporarily unavailable. They were quick to come out and give us an estimate that was very fair and much more reasonable than other quotes we had. We needed flooring installed that we had already purchased, as well as baseboards removed and replaced with new baseboards. They made sure the job was done perfectly, including matching the color of the baseboards to the old ones. They also did touch up paint work where needed when the baseboard installation was finished. This included several visits to our home during this step by step process. They were always right on time when they came to the house. They are extremely professional, very friendly, punctual, easy to get a hold of, and very responsive to any questions or concerns. I don't know the next thing we will need done at our home, but there is not doubt who I am going to call. I am so thankful to find them on Angie's List. Thank you to Ken and his guys who helped make our bonus room look incredible!

Ken Rayhorn and his team took down a rotting fence and a replaced it with new perimeter fencing and gate. They not only did the work faster than the time frame promised, they were amazingly punctional and responsive. Ken went the extra mile on many aspects of the job, including hauling off debris from the neighbors yard (no extra charge). Even when they ran into unforeseen issues, Ken made sure the work was done right, which required more labor on his end. It was clear that Ken and his team take pride in their work. They were also great about cleaning up our yard when they were done. While the cost of the project was not the cheapest bid we received, Ken worked with us to bring the cost down to keep it competitive. We found Helpful Hands to be highly ethical and professional and would strongly recommend them to others.

They did great. All interactions with these folks were cordial and professional. They came out and reviewed the work, provided a fair quote and performed everything I asked for. Couldn't ask for better service. Thanks!

Helpful Hands deserved a great review. I hired Ken Rayhorn to repair water damage under my sink and to replace dry rotted boards on my second story deck to make it safe again. Ken gave both projects a thorough inspection before he gave me an estimate and he was honest about which part of the repairs needed to be open-ended, not knowing what he'd find once he looked at a water damage situation under the sink. He was responsive to my needs, cared about the necessary inconvenience for me and made every effort to restore the kitchen as quickly as possible, even though we had to coordinate with the plumbers schedule to do so. Helpful Hands prices were very reasonable. It was a pleasure to have both Ken and his partner Fred working in my home. No question I will call them in the future and enthusiastically refer them to others.

All in all, very good. We're really happy with the work. We love the finished product! They were easy to work with and great communicators up until the end, when it was tricky getting it all wrapped up. The completion date was pushed out, in part because we added some projects along the way, in part because some of their subs were delayed and in part because they felt behind in new jobs. The quality is good. They caught some issues we wouldn't have seen, i.e. rotted drywall around the bath fan, sloping bath and kitchen floors, rotted garage siding, hidden old garage fire evidence, and repaired them. Fred's typical responses to my questions were, "we can do that!", which meant usually that they could find someone to do that work. Their finish carpenters were excellent and created a barn-door look built-in over our fireplace to hide the t.v. that looks fantastic, as well as replacing a kitchen cabinet door and creating a barn-door separating the dining room and kitchen. Their painter was very good, seemed a bit high in price and happens to be Ken's son. Not initially knowing that they are contractors, I had hired a recommended electrician who was excellent. They didn't particularly enjoy working however with someone they didn't hire, and it was an issue for them. I'm not sure the work required 2x their individual price to complete, as they sometimes ran errands together or one would look on as the other did some work. But again, the finished product is really great. We love the quality and look. We spent way more than expected, but that was in part because of all our add-ons. They are delightful men. We appreciate their services.

They made helpful recommendations to update my mothers house to rent out. When i asked questions about updating, they gave such helpful and cost effective suggestions. They are professional and courteous. He helped us figure out what should be replaced and what could be left the way it was. I was really pleased with all of his suggestions. They squeezed us in around bigger jobs. They would come here and there at my convenience. They worked with us on timing. I was so impressed. They were conscientious about being clean and picking up after themselves. I would highly recommend them. We will hire them for additional needs as they arise.

They initially gave the estimate in May and said they were booked at least though July. However, when things deteriorated with the neighbor I needed to block, Ken & Fred immediately responded and squeezed me in, The work took place over a one week period where posts were sunk and the structure assembled. Actual total work time on my property was less than six hours and I found they were very accurate in estimating how long it would take. They were honest, reliable, dependable in their follow up, and I will use them in the future. Best contracting experience I've had to date in Eugene.

The one thing that needs fixed the most in my home is the fence on one side of the property. The people next door along the fence are uncooperative. Helpful Hands came immediately to assist in fixing the fence. Helpful Hands gave us an estimate within our budget. I collected estimates from 3 companies. Another larger company gave an estimate of the same amount as Helpful Hands. We chose the larger company due to possible liability issues with the uncooperative neighbor. After the fence is rebuilt this time, I plan on using Helpful Hands for maintenance and upkeep.

We were in Raleigh NC and hired the contractor via Angie's List to do work on our new house in Eugene OR. Upon arrival in Eugene my husband inspected the window frame that was repaired. The work that was done, was done well. However, they only did half the job. Some of the wood was left bare with no paint and in other areas the wood was pre-primed only The contractor was hired to do a complete repair of the window frame. A complete repair means that when the work is done the window will look good as new. When my husband questioned the contractor and his helper, they both said,"We don't paint." Apparently, they think it is perfectly acceptable for a contractor to do 1/2 the repair work and not finish the job. Who does half a job and thinks that is ok?
