Samsung issued a work order to Newport TV & Appliance Service in Edmond on 8/9/13.
About a week or so later, I received a telephone call from Newport TV, advising me that a repairman would call me the day before his scheduled appointment time to let me know when he would be at my house. I advised the lady on the phone that I would need more than one day's notice and that I would work with them to set up an appointment convenient for both of us.
On 8/20/13 at 7:45pm, I received a call from a repairman from Newport TV (did not catch his name) telling me that he would be at my house around 1:30pm the next day. I told him I would be at work at that time. I referred to the telephone conversation mention above and reiterated that we need to agree to a time that works for both of us. I told him I would be home any workday after 3:30pm or all day the following Monday.
He said someone else would call to set up an appointment. No one did.
On 8/23/13 I called Newport TV and spoke with Leona. She said that an appointment could not be set up and that Newport TV's policy was to advise the day before of the appointment time the next day. I don't know how that works with anyone but she said that it did. Seems a little arrogant to me or maybe Samsung doesn't pay them enough for "warranty" work and they don't want the business. Leona said I could take the TV in to their shop at my convenience (a 56 mile round trip).
I did not care for the display of arrogance and indifference so I called Samsung to see if I could be set up with a different repair shop. Samsung issued a work order for Professional TV (a 36 mile round trip) and in doing so advised me that Professional TV has an "A" rating compared with Newport TV's "C" rating. I can see why.
We ordered the $200+ part as instructed by the Newport technician, and contacted Newport three weeks later when the part finally arrived. When we called to schedule the technician to install the new part, Newport warned us that, because WE ordered the part, THEY would not warranty their work involving that part. This, despite the fact their technician had told us to order that part.
Feeling this warning about their warranty was some sort of mistake, I asked to discuss the matter with the manager. I spoke eventually with an individual claiming to be the owner of Newport TV. He told me that the technician who'd instructed us to order the part was in error, that we shouldn't have ordered the part, and that the technician was no longer employed by Newport. He reiterated that Newport would not honor even a labor warranty if we proceeded with their service to install that part.
Fortunately, I opted to get a second opinion at that point, calling on a different repair service (A&E Repair) to have a look at our machine. It turns out the machine's controller board was fine. There was instead a simple mechanical fastener which had come loose, causing the balance problem. A&E had us up and running again in short order, and with minimal expense.
In summary, Newport TV & Appliance wasted our time and our money. I would recommend avoiding their service if at all possible.
"This customer did have a bad experience due to a tech that was fired over cases like this but in all fairness, we do take any complaint and resolve them. This unit along with many other LG owners, experience unbalanced load errors and shaking. At that time, this model was reported to change the main board which holds the EEprom which stores how the manchine operates. Regardless, time has gone by and now you will notice that there was a massive recall for this unit to have the EEprom reprogrammed to fix shaking units. We understand that the customer was trying to save money and did not allow us to order the part as if we did, and the unit wasn't fixed, they would not be stuck with a control board. We never instruct anyone to buy their own parts and fir us to install as that is not how we operate. Cases like this, if you decide to buy a part and ends up not correct, then the customer will blame the servicer and that's not what we want so we never suggest any customer buying their own parts. The tech that worked here for a short 3 weeks that made us get this review was not professional and do apologize for what happened. We do provide a good service and if you need any type of service for Appliance or Tv's please call us."
