The process of buying this condo was a miserable experience and then I moved into the condo and it became an absolute nightmare. The previous owner was a wealthy doctor who had purchased the place for his mother. Marianne was really representing him, not me, but it took me a while to realize that. She was so friendly and nice and I trusted her to look out for my financial interests. I thought I was purchasing a place that needed some updating. What I got was a major fixer-upper. None of the appliances worked. I think they were decoys, staged to sell the house. She told me a warranty would cover them and it didn't, because the damage was not from normal wear and tear. Yes I had an inspection and I filed a complaint about him too. Because it had a bad roof that leaked, which she told me not to worry the HOA would take care of, the $3,000 paint job I had done was ruined with the build up of snow that we had over the winter. We kept getting birds inside the place and several hundred dollars later that was fixed with chicken wire over the chimney. Spent $1,000 on the ventilation for the dryer that was completely blocked with dead birds and nest building debri. Marianne never went over which utilities I needed to contact before I moved in and was barely taking my calls after closng. Seller left several things behind and Marianne would not ask him to remove items. After making several calls to her boss she offered to remove these things herself and buy another remote for the garage door, since she had told me several times that there were two and the seller provided only one that was wrapped up in tape. Never received any valid info on HOA. She told me that they take care of landscaping and they don't. Dead leaves and dead plants all over the place and it's my responsibilty to clear up now. Found out recently that this place was left vacant for five years. That was never disclosed. The patio was covered in ivy, which she convinced me was nothing more than an afternoon's work. $300 to clear the ivy. $500 for the exterminator to kill the ants that invaded the kitchen due to the overgrowth of ivy on the other side of kitchen. That's still a problem so I will need an ongoing service. All in all, I believe if I had not been given so much false info, I would not have purchased this place. I was very hesitant about it at first, but she convinced me that it would be the best thing for me. I think as someone who has worked in the real estate business, she knew the place was falling apart, but she wanted to sell it and impress the doctor who owned it. I'm sure she thought she had a future selling homes to him, but I being that I am old I would never buy again. I have only listed some of the more memorable thing from the last few months. I refer to this place as the money pit now. Almost every day something breaks and I just wonder how much longer have until I am completely financially ruined. UPDATE: The roof still has not been fixed by the HOA a year later and I found out that I have to pay $1500 to have it fixed. Marianne specifically told me the HOA would pay 100% of the new roof. Also, The garage floods everytime it rains because the drain that is outside of the garge is clogged and no one can seem to fix it. I really should have paid about 1/2 the price for this moneypit.
Description of Work: I purchased a condo from Marianne that I found online. Once I expressed interest she represented the seller and myself simultaneously. She showed me the condo. She gave me information on the condo. She wrote up the offer that I made to the seller. She got me in touch with the finance person at Howard Hanna. She answered some questions that I had during the process. She did fix some of the things I had asked the seller to fix.
