The individual who called was VERY RUDE! I told him I had chosen a different company to replace the fan and he stated that the work had already been completed and I had to pay for it.
"You can't just come out and perform work without permission!", I complained.
"Ohhh, REALLY?", he replied in a sarcastic tone of voice. "Why would you even want to go with a new company? Why wouldn't you use a reputable company that's been around a long time?"
I was astounded at his nerve and his attitude and was speechless for a moment.
He was trying to bluff and bully me.
"NO! You CAN'T do work on someone's house without a contract! I'm going to report you to Angie's List. Now you get up here and take your stinking fan out and put mine back!"
A different representative called back the next day and apologized and said they would come and take it out.
The following day a worker rang my doorbell and informed me that they had already disposed of my old fan and that he had removed their new fan but put a good used one in that should last me at least five years.
I still had the guy from the other company come and replace it.
I don't trust the integrity of these people and there would be no way for me to verify it.
Stay away from these people -- they'll try to take advantage of you.
"We were contacted by this person to replace the radon mitigation fan, and did complete this request on 12/18/13. We called her on our way to the home as she had requested as well as rang the doorbell when we got there to let her know we had arrived. She did not answer the door however; a woman yelled out of a window at the technician. So she obviously knew we were on our way to her house and also when we arrived to complete the requested service, this must have been before she and her room mate went to their court date. No one from our company called her 1 or 2 days later in regards to the payment, as a matter of fact she was not mailed an invoice for this service until 12/27/13. That was our first contact with her after the day that we installed the new fan. She called us AFTER she received the invoice(dated 12/27/13) and stated that she never authorized us to do this. To accommodate her we offered to remove the new fan and replace it with her old one. When it was discovered that we had already disposed of her original radon mitigation fan, we still removed the new one and replaced it with one that was slightly used. Her original radon mitigation fan was NOT OPERABLE. She was told by the technician that these are warranted for 5 years, so she could expect it to last a while. Her account of the phone conversation is not true, we would never say something like "why wouldn't you use a reputable company that's been around a long time?" Our years of service to our customers speaks for itself. We may have in fact said "oh really?" only because we had noted that not only had she called and requested this service, but she also was called as we were driving to her home to inform her of our expected time of arrival, as well as ringing the door bell and having someone acknowledge our presence by yelling from a window. You can't say that someone took advantage of you if they are only completing service that in fact was requested and completed. After all of this she was given(at no charge) a fan for her radon mitigation system that was operable, compared to the inoperable one that was removed."
