We recently bought a house in Gahanna which had mold in the attic. We came to Angie's List to help find reputable mold removal services, came across The Attic Doctor, and could not be more pleased with our decision. Eric was very helpful with setting up the appointment and ended up putting a team together last minute to work on a Saturday to fit our tight schedule. The remediation was mostly performed by Charles who showed up early to ensure there was little delay in getting the job started/finished. He was very professional, knowledgeable, informative, and eager to work with us. In addition to the work listed on the invoice, he took the time to explain everything as he went along, checked the overall condition of the attic (quality of construction, insulation, any signs of rodent or bug infestations - thankfully nothing), and gave recommendations to keeping a quality attic space. Before the fogging, he showed the results of the spray and mold removal of which we were very happy with. Eric came later in the day to help finish the work, and was just as professional and helpful. The original service request only included mold removal, but they took the extra time to inspect the faulty fan in the attic and replace it so the mold would not return. They also installed the duostat to ensure that the fan would be able to run year round. The quote was originally $1,000-$1,200 as they had not previously seen the attic, and they were able to stick to that $1,200 number even with the additional work. One other thing that should be mentioned is that we were very pressed for time and had difficulty closing due to the mold. We did not have the opportunity to get The Attic Doctor into the house before the work was to be completed which is why there was a range to the estimate. They pulled the house up online and gave us a quote from what they could see there. Given our quick need, we also did not have time to price any competitors other than the company the sellers hired to inspect the attic during closing. While the other company was (only slightly) cheaper, we would gladly pay the difference again to work with The Attic Doctor due to their professionalism and quality of work. Thanks again!
Description of Work: The provider completed the following work (per the description of the invoice): -Spray a fungicidal cleaner / remove biological growth from upper attic sheathing -Install a new duostat and motor on existing power vent -Replace fan on power vent -Fog upper attic with an anti-microbial

I had a small dark mold growth in the ceiling of my garage. He recommended a primer product to take care of it and recommended fixing the roof. He gave me a detailed explanation why I needed no other remedy since the air in the garage did not circulate in the house.
Description of Work: Eric called me and gave me a comprehensive detailed remedy for my problem and didn't charge me a thing. No visit was required.

The Attic Doctor staff had a schedule opening and were able to come sooner than our original appointment which was helpful. They remediated the mold and were careful to cleanup insulation that had come through the attic access portal after they were done. Overall they were very professional and courteous.

He only charged me for a house visit. He came out in the evening possibly even after hours for us. He was very nice and great to work with.
Description of Work: We thought we had mold in our attic. He did an inspection of the entire attic. He found light mold in the attic entry. He told us he could fix it or he could explain how I could fix it myself which I ended up doing.

I called Eric Poling -- who came out for the initial inspection and estimate. He wasn't certain when he could schedule my job, but he kept in touch once he had a better idea on when the job could be scheduled (Eric called 4 days before his work crew arrived). ~~ Eric's work crew arrived on a Friday, in the general time expected (I wasn't on a tight schedule myself), did the demolition of the affected wall after containing the airflow in the room with a plastic curtain over the doorway and using a high flow air filtration unit. Once the wall and affected insulation was removed, we could see daylight through an two small areas of the dormer roof, which the previous roofing repair crew (hired by my condo association) didn't close. ~~ Work crew returned the following Tuesday, where the wall was rebuilt with new vapor barrier, insulation, anti-biologic growth treatments, and drywall. Thankfully, the framing wood in the affected area was still sound -- but if the wood had been compromised, they would have replaced it. ~~ Work crew returned the next day (Weds) to complete the work by sanding the drywall mud, painting the drywall with primer, cut / nail in / caulk to finish window trim and baseboard. Crew also did what they could to remediate the two small areas that were open to daylight through the dormer roof, in order to avoid future leaks or possible critter invasions. ~~~ The lead crew member, Chuck, was very knowledgeable and did excellent, conscientious-to-details work. ~~ I had part of a trash bag and old wood trim to dispose of ... which wasn't an issue, given the thoroughness of the job from the inspection through the execution of the repairs.
Description of Work: Inspected bedroom and attic above where a roof leak had occurred (roof already repaired). Identified biological growth (mold) areas for remediation. Crew came in - removed affected area's wall, mitigated for mold, rebuilt the wall - left as primer painted.

It went very well. When we replaced a bathroom exhaust fan, we discovered that it was unvented and allowed enough moisture for mold to grow in the attic. Since we were listing our house for sale, we needed a quick fix. The Attic Doctor was very flexible and responsive. The work was done quickly, and since the Attic Doctor is on the Columbus Board of Realtors, they were able to access the house using the realtor's lockbox and we didn't even have to be home. It was a job well done.

Eric and his crew were very professional, patiently answering my questions about the process before, during and after their visit. During the initial (estimate) visit, Eric was very clear as to what his crew would be doing to correct the mold issue and to improve the ventilation in the attic spaces in question to prevent the mold from returning in the future. Once his crew arrived to do the work, they were polite and courteous. I felt they took great efforts to be conscientious -- one of the items that needed to be addressed as part of this job was the addition of more soffit vents to my home--they painted the vents to minimize the contrast between them and the house color, but his crew didn't like the contrast difference and went back up to repaint them! They also paid attention to the loose pieces of insulation that may have worked their way into the house, and picked them up as they saw them. Additionally, Eric and his crew were receptive to a request I made for insulation to be added to another attic space that was outside of the original proposal. The only area where I marked them "down" was for punctuality--this was a 2-day job, and on both days, the crew arrived after they said they would (arriving :45-1:00 later than they told me they would...but that could also be due to the amount of job-specific supplies they needed to load into the trailer/bring with them??) The attic roof and rafters were originally black with mold...after treatment, the wood looks almost like new. This week has seen an increase in temperatures and humidity, but I can already notice a significant difference in how the upstairs feels this year as compared to previous years. I would recommend their services.
Description of Work: The Attic Doctor removed black mold in the attic spaces of my home, and then blew in additional insulation (taking my 1970's attic from approximately an R-13, to above an R-38!)

I called and talked to Eric on the phone about a mold problem in my basement. He seemed very knowledgeable and polite. We scheduled a site visit for the following day, either early morning or late afternoon to work around other obligations he had. I gave him two phone numbers, one for morning one for afternoon/evening. The following day we never heard from him - or he used a different phone number and did not leave a message. My guess is that when he does a job he could do it very well judging from other reviews. But scheduling does not appear to be his strength. To his credit he did follow up after I posted this review and was very polite and apologetic.

He is really good. He gave me a break on the price because I belong to Angie's List. The only beef I had was getting a call back from them. My main problem was the communication. They were excellent. We had to call him and remind him to come out. The price was very fair.

Called numerous providers (including major national restoration folks who work on a consulting basis it seems) and nobody would call back. Called Attic Doctor and he answered my call immediately. He was polite, professional and Incredibly helpful. He recommended an immediate address of our issue that I could do on my own. He was honest and candid. If the problem comes back or if I have similar issues in the future, I will call the Attic Doctor.

This crew was amazing. The house was unoccupied for several years and the mold problem in the attics were among the worst I have ever seen. They worked for several days treating the roof sheathing and now the sheathing looks like it is new wood! No mold or even any discoloration! In addition, Eric new right away what caused the mold to grow in the first place (a botched addition of ridge vents) and corrected the ventilation problems.
Description of Work: The attic Doctor treated and removed mold from two attics and removed the musty smell from the entire house. In addition, the contractor fixed a ventilation problem in the attic spaces that resulted in the mold growth, repaired unrelated roof damage, added soffit vents, ducted two exhaust fans to the outside and repaired the chimney.

Our home inspector found mold in the attic of the house we are in contract to buy. The seller had disclosed that it was already taken care of by another company and showed us the receipt. With my husband having just had a heart transplant, we decided to hire our own mold inspector for peace of mind, and Eric did find mold in the attic but also that the house was never properly vented when it was built in 1966. (it was built without eaves as most houses built in that time period) and that the previous work was not done correctly by the other company. The seller and I were very impressed with Eric's knowledge of the problem and his answer to not only fix the mold problem but to temp resolve the ventilation without doing a major renovation and replacement of the roof. (which I will hire Eric later to do). We have yet to move into the house due to the closing date, but the seller has said he was very impressed with the work, stating how much more comfortable it is to sleep at night in the house at night and that the second floor stays a lot cooler. The seller has even mentioned he is having work performed at his new house after seeing the work Eric's company has done here.

Overall the Attic Doctor did a great job. The workers were very nice and professional and did a nice job. The job got completed in the time frame needed before our final inspection. The only area that could be improved is the scheduling, as they would give little notice before showing up a few of the times. I would recommend the Attic Doctor to others who are in the situation of needing mold remediation while trying to sell your house.

Over the holidays we discovered a major moisture issue in our attic and a lot of black mold. Had a few companies out to look at the problem, but the Attic Doctor was the only company willing to deal with both the mold and the reason it was there. Eric is very knowledgable and took the time to walk us through the issues and what needed to be done to assist. Eric even left a commercial air scrubber after his first visit for several weeks to help clean our air while we got other estimates and decided we wanted to do. Eric's team was excellent and other than the noise in the attic we did not know there were even here. They covered all surfaces while they were working. You cannot tell we even had an issue now. One other point between Eric's first visit and the work the situation did improve somewhat and Eric's first comment was he was going to need to redo the quote and lowered it. Eric did not need to do that, I would have been none the wiser if he has stuck to the orignal quote, but doing this speaks volumes to his integrity. I would have any of Eric's companies do work for us again.

Work was performed in an excellent manner. Contractor showed up on time to perform the work in the least amount of time. Extra care was taken not to damage the areas of the house not involved in the work. Problems that came up during the remodeling work were handled efficiently and completely. In fact, several unknown problems from the construction of the house were identified and corrected during the remodeling phase of the project. The completed work came under the estimated quoted price.
Description of Work: Had a mold problem in the kitchen area from a leaking dishwasher. After reviewing the problem, the contractor supplied a reasonable quote for the mold remediation and repair work that needed to be done. Several alternatives to the needed remodeling work were proposed so the kitchen could be returned to a fully functioning area. Services performed were the demolition of the affected sub flooring, drywall, flooring, and cabinetry. The area was completely dried, and then the mold remediation was performed. New sub flooring and drywall were installed. The cabinetry was replaced. New flooring was replaced in the entire kitchen. Additionally, the counter tops were replaced as an additional remodeling job.

I hired Eric Poling to come to a final home inspection after finding out the home I was supposed to close on had rotted plywood, rotted insulation under some rotted siding on the home a roof leak and a bathroom leak. During his inspection, he found mold like substance in the attic and discovered several other areas of rotted wood on the home that were supposed to be remedied that were not repaired. Eric saved me from purchasing a home with many issues that would likely have cost me in excess of $40,000.00 to repair.

After researching mold remediation companies, I had three of them come give me estimates. (I could only find three that removed mold from attics) I won't mention the other companies but The Attic Doctor was by far the best choice. One of the other companies quote was cheaper, but the scope of work they recommended was not the same and after talking to Eric with the Attic Doctor, my mind was already made up. The Attic Doctor was also the only company that guaranteed the job would pass a mold clearance test when they were done. This company definitely impressed me and my home inspector that found the mold. They are extremely knowledgeable and professional. They build plastic walls, put plastic on everything including the carpet and answered all of my questions throughout the process. If you have a problem with mold, this company is the only one you need to call. (475-MOLD)
