Years ago, we had a water seepage problem on one of our basement walls. We had that problem fixed, but there was still moisture in the walls that caused mold to grow between the plywood mount for our electrical box and the wall. In addition, we have some spots on the wall that needed additional treatment. I contacted The Attic Doctor for an estimate of the work, and Chuck came out to check it out. He explained in detail what they could do for us. We had some difficulty getting the actual estimate since they did not have our email address, but we finally received the estimate and we contracted with them to do the work. Chuck is the one who actually came out for the work. Prior to the appointment time, he called us to say he was running a little late. I appreciated him letting us know rather than having us wait and wonder. He came over with a partner, and they did an excellent job. At times while they working, and also when they were done, Chuck explained all they were doing and kept us updated. The wall looks 100% better than it did before, and now we don't have to worry about any mold or water seepage issues with it.
Description of Work: They cleaned some mold behind the electrical box in my basement, and cleaned and painted the foundation wall.

This could not have gone better. He showed me how to cure the problem myself. He also told me that if I wanted to guarantee (or as close as you can come to a guarantee), he would recommend a provider who did the fix more regularly than he did and would probably give me a better price. You can not beat honesty, knowledge and service. I will use him again if I need any type of attic work.

Overall service was excellent. Eric and team was responsive and worked with my hectic schedule to complete remedy request for the sale of my house. I went into contract for the sale of my house with the new owners wanting to close in 30 days. That left little time for the inspection and to receive back the remedy request. I had no idea about the mold appearing areas in my attic along with the ventilation issues. I also had no idea on who to contact to obtain these types of services. I then came across an ad for Angie's List and joined as a member. A simple search brought up "The Attic Doctor" and everything that I needed done was a perfect match. I purchased an offer for an inspection as I had know idea on what type impact service like this would be to my budget. With a quick message via Angie's List, I was replied back to within hours stating they would call me the next day to set up an appointment. I talked with Eric the next day and explained my situation that I was in need of ballpark pricing so I could make a decision. He reviewed my house specs and information and gave me a low end to high end range over the phone that allowed me to make a decision on the remedies. I committed based on this information and he had his crew out within a week to make the fixes. They were informative and respectful of the property and my needs. I would definitely recommend this company to another person in need of these types of services. I was also pleased that the pricing based on ball parking was the low end of the spectrum and was within the estimate scope provided. Thanks Attic Doctor for helping me out on short notice!

i decided to use the Attic Doctor as another supplier said they had an employee who did mold work in Florida and they used bleach and then coated the treated mold area. I had heard bleach will not kill black mold-which was affirmed by Attic Dr. Plus, as mentioned above, the coating would raise questions about what was the 'issue' in that area....which I did not want. So, the job was expedited as the owner asked if a work crew wanted some extra Saturday work and called to see if they could come Saturday to do the job....3 workers for about 4 1/2 hours. They installed 7 additional soffit vents, sealed some of the ridge vent (to improve attic flow), installed a new attic exhaust fan that is activated by temperature and/or preset humidity limits, baffles for the all vents and fabricated a special galvanized air flow block to eliminate warm air from escaping from the basement into the attic around the chimney. And cleaned the back mold that had originated from the bath shower up one side of the roof and down the other side. I was skeptical of how they would be able to rid all of the mold from every board and rafter in that area. After they had finished and the agent used to kill and clear the mold had dissipated, I climbed into the attic to see what it looked like. I was TOTALLY amaized! The roof deck boards that were black were total clear and clean. It looked liked new boards had been put in. The mold was killed, gone and the appearance is that it was never there. The chemicals are strong and there was some odor for a when but cleared within a few hours and I didn't notice it in the house. So, I was totally happy that the mold was gone as I had no idea how serious a condition it was and what would be involved to fix it....and then do what ever necessary, so it would never return. I am totally and happy and satisfied with the work and what has been done in my attic to keep anything like this happing again. till clear and clean. Moral of the story - check you attic one a year to make sure you don't have things growing up there. Description of Work: Set up an appointment to see the black mold that had accumulated in a certain, defined area in my attic. Eric came in the evening and crawled thru the attic, reviewed all soffit vents, exhaust attic fan, ridge vent, size of attic, insulation and the mold plus the rest of the attic roof area. I was also in the attic and he explained everything he saw and what his opinions were, what his proposed solutions were, some available calculations for the air exchange in the attic, what the mold area would look like when they were finished and what need to be done to have no reoccurrence. We also discussed schedule, cost and any other items that were needed or suggested options. Also what another company had suggested to do for the mold (bleach treatment and paint over it) which would have raised questions during a Home Inspection for future sale.

Eric was extremely helpful, right from the get go. He first took a look at the problem area, and explained that it was a non-issue that didn't require expert help. He then walked through what was causing our mold and discussed several ways to help mitigate it, most of which we can accomplish on our own. He let me know the best ways to address mold in the bathroom once it is there, and armed me with enough information to be able to tackle this problem. If we ever have a larger issue where we need help, I will certainly work with Eric to get it fixed. He was professional, knowledgeable, and very helpful.

In March 2015 a team came to 1) remove existing soffit vents, check size of cut openings, enlarge 12 existing vents and install new, cut in and install approximately 10 new soffit vents; 2) set up containment of attic access and create negative air pressure; 3) set up an air scrubber outside of containment; 4) spray a fungicidal cleaner/remove biological growth from attic sheathing and framing; 5) spray a borate base anti-microbial; 6) remove and replace baffles as needed; 7) repair rolled insulation as needed; 8) install a new power vent to be controlled by thermostat and humidistat 9) drop electrical line and add switch in closet for power vent on/off; 10) close ridge vent as needed; 11) remove ridge vent on upper front gable, cut open ridge for exhaust opening and install new baffled ridge vent. Install new cap shingles to match existing roof; 12) rake insulation and fog entire attic with an anti-microbial. The team that came was courteous and informative - answering any questions that I had during the process. They did leave some roof cut-out items in the attic space, but it was easy for me to clean up.
Description of Work: Free estimate and description of issues in Feb. 2015. Eric described how my attic needed to be fixed to allow the appropriate ventilation and then they would remediate to remove the mold that was growing (because it had not been properly ventilated). He also helped me knowledgeably talk to the roofing company that caused the problems in an attempt to get a resolution from them.

Owner came out for estimate on Thursday July 2nd. He was very knowledgeable and explained everything that should be done. Emailed me the proposal on Friday July 3rd (which I approved) and started the work on Tuesday July 7th which they finished in 4 hours. The two men that came out were pleasant, clean and introduce themselves. Always had booties on shoes in house. Plus I have cats so they always had to remember to close the doors (which they did). First ran water through sump pump and downspout to ensure drains were working. Fixed the hole on the driveway by foundation, moved the big rocks and placed ground cover to raise the foundation and put rocks back. Seal blacktop where it meets the house and around the rocks. Seal exterior foundation with synthetic mortar to prevent water intrusion. Went downstairs in basement set up air scrubber to clean and remove biological growth on walls near sump pump. They fixed the cracks and painted two coats of waterproofing paint. The basement, foundation outside and the driveway look great. I'm very pleased with their work and highly recommend them to everyone.
Description of Work: In basement had mold around the sump pump. On the outside had a two inch hole near foundation. Set up an Air Scrubber in basement and spray a fungicidal cleaner/remove biological growth on foundation walls near sump pit. Apply an anti-microbial and multiple coats of waterproofing paint as needed. On the outside between the house foundation and the driveway raise grade as much as possible. Run water through sump discharge and downspout to ensure drains are working--run snake through drain if needed. Seal blacktop where it meets the house in same area including filling the hold near drain with blacktop cold patch. Try to build a small curb stop to divert water. Seal exterior foundation void with synthetic mortar to prevent water intrusion.

Eric came out and explained how to correct the ventilation in the attic and also how they would take care of the mold. Eric also took the time to figure out where the leak in the garage was coming from. His crew came out and added extra soffit vents and added a power vent on the roof. The mold was remediated. The work area was clean when they were done in the attic. They also caulked the area on the roof above the garage where it was leaking. I would definitely recommend The Attic Doctor to anyone who has mold or roofing issues. If I have any other roofing issues, I will certainly use them in the future.

The Crew (foreman: Charles) was very polite, knowledgeable, efficient and willing to explain the process of work being completed. Care was taken to keep plastic up on walls of hallway and floor protection was used. We did have a problem with the fan vibrating very loudly after installation and Eric, my rep, was quick to contact me to reschedule a crew to come back out and fix it. Again, the crew, headed up by Charles, fixed it and continued the same amazing professionalism. We live approx one hour from their office and there was no hesitation for making the job right quickly. I would highly recommend The Attic Doctor!

Eric came to my home as scheduled to review the issue and give me an estimate. Our basement is partially finished. Black mold (which Eric called biological growth) was present in the electrical box which is in the finished portion of the basement. The area that needed to be treated was many times as big as the doors which opened into it and went around the corner. Although my husband does most of our home repairs, he did not want to tackle this job. We were concerned that the finished wall would have to be removed. Eric assured me that is not the case; they could clean up the issue with their equipment by reaching into the corner. He checked all other exterior corners in the basement, pointing out small areas that contain biological growth. He could remove it and repaint those areas too. The major damage was in the finished part of the basement (wouldn't you know it!). Eric went outside to investigate the cause of our problem. The gutter was not draining correctly, and Eric advised me about fixing that issue. My husband took care of the gutter drain, and we hired The Attic Doctor to remove/kill the black mold. What professional and personable men Chuck and Tommy were! They arrived as scheduled, did the scheduled job thoroughly and left no mess. They wore "booties" over their shoes when in the house, put up a plastic tent around the work area, and took all the debris with them when they left. Chuck pointed out some additional biological growth on furniture we have stored in the basement and told us how to remove it. They even left a piece of plastic for us to complete that task. We couldn't have had better service for the job we needed done. For the amount of time involved, we feel that the price was a bargain. Thank you!!!
Description of Work: Black mold was removed from our basement walls.
