Sears Heathing & Cooling was great! I called them prior to purchasing the Angie's List deal to ensure they'd be able to come out that day and hopefully get my furnace working. They answered right away and confirmed availability, so I purchased the deal. The technician was at my house within a couple hours, so that was perfect. He determined a fuse within the furnace was dead and replaced it, which got my heat back on. I also discussed another issue I had been having that involved water leaking out of the bottom of the furnace and running to the floor drain. The water was due to my whole house humidifier, and he determined that it was most likely the cause of the dead fuse, as he pointed out the water evaporation that could be heard within the furnace. He found that the drain from the humidifier was completely blocked up, causing water to go back into the furnace. He offered to replace the full drain line for an additional fee, so I took him up on that. During the replacement, he discovered he was missing a part, so he ended up having to run to Home Depot. He returned quickly and completed the pipe replacement, which included an access point for cleaning the drain in the future. It has been great ever since - no water running across the floor for the first time! The whole appointment took about 3 hours, but the end result was fantastic. I hadn't even planned on having the water draining issue resolved during the diagnostic to get the furnace back up and running, but the tech was very interested in making sure all of my issues were taken care of. Great work!

We had purchased a foreclosure. Inspection revealed that the gas pressure was set too high which could lead to CO and wasting money. I probably paid for this service call with the gas pressure adjustment. Thank You! Also was unsure if the humidifier worked. Totally expecting to purchase a new one. I was told it worked, just needed an adjustment and filter change. He even should me how to do it. Great knowledge and customer service!

Company with whom I had service contract was unable to responded promptly to a service request when furnace quit working, Sears Heating and Cooling did respond promptly although I had not previously been their customer. Service representative identified and removed defective part in 14 yrs old Amana furnace. Attempts to locate defective part locally failed, and order from factory for overnight delivery failed also. "Back ordered" part would not have been delivered for more than a week and cost would have been almost half that of a new Rheem high efficiency furnace. The old furnace was removed and the new one installed very expeditiously in a very processional manner. John, the installer, was very careful not to damage or soil floors and left the furnace and area clean. The furnace has since been inspected by a city inspector who found no flaw.

Tim (technician) from Sears Heating and Cooling came out to inspect/service our HVAC. Tim truly exceeded my expectations and I highly recommend this company due to his professionalism, skill and product knowledge. Tim is also provided some great insight into new product developments (thermostats) and how to improve indoor air quality. Thank you Tim and the Sears team for exceeding my expectations.

The company was prompt and very professional. After much discussion, an estimate was provided for replacement of both heating and cooling system. Since it was a lot of money I waited to get other estimates and ended up going with another company. I have had Sear's in the past for previous repairs to the system and their work has been good.

On routine service call, they found my furnace was not working. Need a new motor. Returned with motor about a week later..could not complete so returned and completed job. Furnace was under warranty so only cost was for labor. Tim, the technician, had put in the furnace when it was new and has serviced many times. He always explains everything and completes his work. We've had similar experiences with other workers during the 14-15 years we've used Sears. Totally delighted with their service.

I had left an email through Angies list, but after a balmy night without AC, I called at 7:45 and talked to Paul, the owner. He felt like he could get someone out in the afternoon to take a look. I got a call back 20 minutes later from the dispatcher who asked for some additional details and she felt like someone could come by in the morning. She reminded me that there were several coupons in Angies list and made sure I was using the one I felt would add the best value. An hour and a half later, I received a call from a technician letting me know they could be here in 30 - 45 minutes, if that was OK. They arrived on time and respected my property by using shoe coverings EVERY TIME they came into the house. Kelvin and AJ introduced themselves and let me know what they would be doing and the costs right up front. They even reminded me of the Angies List coupon. Before they even looked, AJ said "I bet it's the capacitor." They didn't just jump to the conclusion, but they inspected the system. I will admit I don't change the filter as often as I should, but I will now. They looked inside and said things looked good there and then checked outside and, sure enough, it was the capacitor. Kelvin let me know the cost to replace it and waited for me to tell him to go ahead before he did anything else, making sure work was done to my specifications. They replaced the capacitor and the system started right up and started cooling the house down. They also pointed out that the back side of the compressor was near the dryer vent and that when the compressor and dryer vent run at the same time, sometimes the compressor can pull in the lint from the dryer vent. Kelvin suggested using the hose to spray out the lint from time to time during the summer to keep the compressor from having to work as hard. They completed their diagnostics after the system came up, checking the Freon levels and confirming that everything was OK. The compressor is an older one, but they told me it was working fine and that was all that needed to be done to it. They didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need. The pricing was straightforward and reasonable. I don't think I want anyone else touching my system in the future.
Description of Work: Sears Heating and Cooling came out to work on our AC system after it had stopped running on a holiday. I called them first thing this morning and although they said it would be this afternoon before someone could come out, a technician called and arrived by 10 AM. They did a quick check of the system and confirmed it was a capacitor issue. They had it replaced and confirmed that everything else on the system was in good working order in less than 30 minutes.

I don't use my air-conditioner except in extremely hot weather. It's an old one from 1988 (Lenox). I got the bad news that the condenser motor had finally bit the dust. Tim showed me the issues and gave me options of repair or replace. I'm opting to repair ($939) as Tim was saying this is a good model and that I don't use it a great deal.

I called Sears the morning after my AC quit working and they sent a guy out that same day. When he arrived, Jody was very personable, and he quickly diagnosed the problem and made the repair. Once repaired, he explained exactly what he did and also provided some basic education on my AC unit. My experience with Sears was very positive. (the only reason I graded their price as "fair" is because it seemed fair, but I have nothing to compare it to so I can't say whether it was "good" or not. Maybe it was. Regardless, I'm happy with the experience.

Another heating company had me so fearful that I was going to have carbon monoxide poisoning. Sears said I wasn't and I could turn my furnace back on. I wasn't happy with either one of those. With Sears and another company I had to pay out of my pocket. It would have cost me a rage over $2000, so they would have cost me more money. I still had to pay for this stuff and I was upset about it. Sears was much more thorough than the first company I called. There was a coupon for $69. My experience was terrible with them. They showed me where the carbon monoxide was too high, but it wasn't out take valve. I wasn't in any danger of it, to get inside the house. They checked it thoroughly than the first company. It will be good to ask them more and detailed information & service.

Repair person diagnosed the problem. He said the capacitor was the wrong size causing my fan to run hot. He said the capacitor was a 80/5 and it should have been a 80/10. He pulled an old 80/10 capacitor out of the bottom of the unit and said it was just laying in there. He said the last repair person who worked on the unit must have left it in the unit when they replaced it with the wrong capicitator. I put this unit in new about 8 years ago and don't remember ever having it worked on previously. He set the reset button and the system started up again but he said it would continue to trip off due to the wrong capacitor. He advised the cost of the repair was $940, for a new capacitor, new fan engine and new fan blades. I asked why I needed new fan blades, he advised they would be damaged when they are removed to get to the fan engine. I did not think I needed a new fan since the fan was running and there is nothing wrong with the blades. I asked if he had a capacitator on the truck and he said yes. I requested he just replace the capacitor and asked the price. He advised it was $250 for the capacitor. I said lets just replace the capacitor. He said no you couldn't do that, if you put a new capacitor on the fan and the fan was bad it would ruin the new capacitor and you would have to buy another one when you replaced the motor. Since the unit was running and working I told him I would think about it. He charged me $79 for a service call. I advised Angies list advertised a $49 rate and he said you had to buy that in advance. I also advised Angies list has a $50 coupon for repairs over $100. He said he didn't know anything about that so I didn't get that discount. I printed the coupon and gave it to him. I don't think the repair person was happy because I didn't go for the expensive repair. It just didn't sound right. Next day I called another a/c contractor and asked to have the capacitor changed to 80/10. They did the work, cost including the service call and capacitor was $189.00. They advised not to replace the fan since it was working and you don't have to replace the blades .

As far as the pricing goes, I realize that it is quite steep, however you should know Lennox is EXTREMELY expensive with their parts. Anytime you run a repair on a Lennox you should be prepared to pay a premium since they price their parts so high. For the $49 discount, that SHOULD have been honored and I want to be the first to apologize for that. We have spoken to the tech that was at your residence and informed him this was not acceptable and informed him of the correct procedure regarding this coupon. Also, if you had a coupon for $50 off a repair that would have been honored as well had you gone through with the repairs. I hope you were able to get your unit running. Again, we apologize for your experience and hope you have a great summer.

I didn't have the service done, because the service provider didn't have a phone number to contact me in order to setup an appointment. I would think that Angie's List would have provided that information to them, since the deal said that I would have a service call in two days. I tried contacting them but contacted Sears Roebuck Heating and Cooling instead. I eventually had my unit repaired using my home warranty, which I didn't think of in the first place. The following week I did realize that the service provider did email me two days after purchasing the big deal and told me to call them to schedule an appointment, but my unit had already been repaired by then.

Jamie met with me last fall to discuss the options available to replace our 36 year old furnace and 10 year old heat pump. He explained the differences in the units, answered all my questions, and gave me a proposal. We waited until this spring to make a final decision and go forward. Jamie was very professional and knowledgeable throughout the process. Mark and Steve arrived on time last Monday. They introduced themselves and got right to work. They were professional and very polite. Before leaving, they showed me how to operate the thermostat and humidifier. Jamie came by to make sure all was completed before Mark and Steve left. We are looking forward to using Sears Heating and Cooling for our heating and cooling needs.

They had the brand that I wanted, which was Bryant. When they came out and did the preliminary talk about what they offered he was very straight forward. The price they gave me was within the ballpark of other prices I got. One man did most of the work. He took about 6 hours to install. Everything is working just fine so far!

With the coupon I e-mailed the company and they responded within the hour to set-up the appointment. The guy was very professional and did a good repair job, including finding some water in the furnace from condensation (that was an additional charge). He was very patient when I asked questions and he made sure that I understood his answers.

Very good and responsive. Had to order part, so returned the next day..that night lost heat again..called and they came out found out it was another part that needed repaired also..another $450.00 (they didn't take my coupon) Just took off for being on contract with them..so decided to get new furnace..should have checked pricing, but couldn't due to it being one of the coldest days on record and no heat except electric heaters running..so bought and installed their furnace. Haven't had any problems so far. But the guy showed up early to install and I wasn't ready for him...he was a little on the too friendly, as my daughter didn't like his sense of humor as he woke her to get access to the furnace area. She would describe him as rude. But the job was completed that day.

As noted above, the last visit was no different from any other. The technician called to tell he was on his way and arrived when he said he would. He did his inspection and cleaning, told me his results, and cleaned up after himself.
Description of Work: We have had an annual contract with Sears for at least 15 years. They come out each spring and fall to check and clean our furnace and air conditioner. The have replaced both once in this time period. They have also made a number of non-contracted calls to our house to help us evaluate or change settings. Their costs are competitive and they have been consistently reliable and helpful. We've had a number of technicians...each one is polite, well-trained, and helpful. The last one on 3/24/2014 was no exception. We highly recommend this company.
