They are not affiliated with the stores Sears and Kenmore their are a completely separate company. so they came out and diagnose the problem and then fixed it for us. they are extremely knowledgeable we have used them I would say probably the past fifteen years exclusively for our house and then anything we need to have done.
Description of Work: I used Sears Heating & Cooling for heating and A/C. There was a clogged drain line from the furnace when you run your air conditioning unit it can produce condensation inside so the actual drain in the basement was clogged and it had caused some water to back up be on the basement floor

customer beware- Sears Heating & Cooling. We had our air conditioner go out on a Friday and called Sears Heating and Cooling come out to to fix it. We were told their normal service call would be $79, or they could come the same day for $129- we were fine paying extra for same day service. The service technician came out and did a great job- found the problem quickly and did the repair within an hour. here is where the problem is- where I think other costumers might want to be ware of the billing/ business model Sears Heating & Cooling is using: When I asked for the cost of the part (a capacitor I have seen online for $25) And the labor to put it in, I was told “they don’t work that way” And was presented with a choice of 5 service plans to cover the repair that was done. Ranging from the platinum option of over $900 down to one called “the bandaid” that was just oner $300. In other words, they would not give me a quote for the cost of the part and for the cost of the labor to complete the repair - and the cost of the service call was NOT going to be applied against the cost of labor for the repair. instead, my only option was to choose form one of the service plan levels. But the time I was presented with my “service plan options” the part had already been replaced and the AC was working- Bottom line was, a replaced capacitor (about a $25 part- was going to cost me $431 dollars for the $129 service call plus the $302 “quick fix safety testing 90 day warranty” repair - this was listed as the “bandaid” option on their iPad when presented with my service options. If this is legal, so be it- but I felt compelled to warn other consumers that this sort of thing is how they do business. It felts like a scam, it was far too much for the service performed. Furthermore when I called, they said that this is the way their customers preferrer doing business- even though I was a customer calling in to let them know how much this seemed like a HORRIBLE way to do business. They said they are not a parts and labor company, that they are a service company. I was then transferred to someone’s voicemail and left a message explain my concerns. When I expressed my concern with the repairman, he told me that he hears this a lot, and if I had issues with it, that I should call in to the office on Monday. I take responsibility for calling them- and like I said the repair man did an excellent job- but it does not feel like fair business practices that their billing procedures were not fully disclosed. Up til now, every service call I had made had given me a cost for the visit, and then the service person would tel me the cost for the parts and the labor to do the repairs, and the cost of the service call would either be waived if we did the service, or applied against the cost of the series provided. It seems like if a company wants to vary from this standard billing model so wildly, it should be fully disclosed on the phone prior to the appointment being made or the repair being performed. I think I have the right to know the cost of the labor for the repair and the cost of the part being used for the repair. In the future I will for certain make sure that I will ask ANY service company IF: • the service call cost will be applied against the cost of any service(s) performed • i will receive an itemized bill breaking down the cost of any parts used and any services/labor performed • if my only options for payments will be picking from various service plans vs just paying for the repairs done. Beware of how this company bills/ what you are agreeing to before calling this company. I will be posting this information with Angie’s List, the Better Business Bureau, and the Attorney General’s office in hopes that others may avoid being forced into picking from service plan options when all that is wanted is a repair.

We apologize you were not satisfied with the way operate. As the service manager mentioned, we are one of MANY hvac companies that offer flat rate pricing. Feel free to call around and see what other companies would charge for the applicable repair and you will find we are right in the middle. As for the breakdown, the service manger stated we are about 30% parts, 30% labor, 30% overhead and 10% profit. We have tons of satisfied customers that love our services as you can see from our 250+ Google reviews. We hope you are able to find a company that better suits your needs in the future. Best wishes.

I call the office in the morning and the person I spoke with told me that someone would call and come out in the afternoon. I went out to do my errands in the morning so I'd be home in the afternoon. Jared called me about around 10:30 am. and said he could come right over but I was not where I could get home quickly. He tried to explain that the scheduling didn't work that way but was nice about it. We were able to reconnect after noon and he came to the house. Jared was professional and friendly and wore booties in the house (not that my messy house needed it though). He answered all my questions and tried to explain the workings of my AC in ways I could understand. He located and fixed the immediate problem (a blown capacitor) and explained other issues that may have caused that and would need to be addressed. He laid out the various options we had but was not pushy about making me decide one that day. He also explained what to keep an eye out for since the underlying problem was not fixed. He left his card so that I could discuss with my family and get back to him.

I have used Sears heating and cooling a couple of times when my AC went out, but it was a 23 year old unit and finally failed. Jamie came out and gave me a detailed estimate. I got three other estimates but felt most comfortable with Jamie's knowledge. Scheduled the service. Gary was right on time and did a great job. Very easy to work with. If you need AC or furnace work, these are the folks to call! Service is great and techs are very knowledgeable. Could not be happier.

The technician did a complete inspection on my heating system. He performed routine maintenance like changing the oil filter and cleaning the nozzles but he also found that the seals around my heat exchanger had deteriorated and needed replaced. I also asked him about installing a hard start kit on my heat pump to protect the compressor., he had one on his truck. He was very polite and professional and worked efficiently. I would highly recommend Sears heating and cooling.

I was so very impressed with the technician that came out. I was certain my VERY old furnace would need replaced as no heat was coming out at all and a previous service technician (not from Sears) told me that I'd be lucky if my furnace lasted thru another winter. And that was about 4 winters ago! Josh called before he came out and was very knowledgeable, friendly and respectful. He repaired the furnace and thinks it could last a few more years! I was thrilled with both the service and the outcome. I would most definitely recommend Sears and especially Josh to any of my friends or family.

I have used Sears Heating and Cooling before and was pleased with their service and prices. The technician called ahead as promised and arrived promptly at the time I was told. Water build up in the furnace prevented the fan from circulating heat to the house. The technician diagnosed this almost immediately and cleared out the clogged drain. He advised me that he could also quickly get our humidifier working and quoted a price which I thought was very reasonable. The work was performed quickly, accurately and the price over all was fair. I would strongly recommend Sears Heating and Cooling to anyone.

Not impressed, fairly aggravated really. Most annoyingly was the hack job done on the control wires. They were cut & spliced a few feet from the furnace for no reason. If any splicing needed to be done, it could have easily been done inside the furnace closer to the control board. The wires were then capped off and stripped too far, so now you can see the exposed copper wire below the caps. If you look at the pictures I've uploaded, you'll see that each wire matches up color for color, indicating to me no reason to have cut the wires in the first place, especially that far away from the unit. You can also see the exposed copper. I hopped on Amazon after the tech left and checked out prices for the parts that were replaced in my unit. In total, the cost of parts was approximately $50, but my bill was over $600 for about two hours worth of work, so minus the 50 bucks, that's about $275 an hour. My wife is a doctor and doesn't make half that an hour. After this experience, the next time I need service I'll probably have them come out and quote me, but I'll definitely get quotes from other places as well before letting them perform service. I'll most certainly request a different tech as well. The tech apparently thought it was ok to smoke next to the AC unit and throw his cigarette butt in my flower bed. He didn't put all the screws back on the main panel that attaches to the furnace. Shortly after he left he sent me my receipt via email - it was embedded in the email but the link was broke. I emailed him back asking to get resend and simply never got a response ** In reply to Sears' May 26th reply: No one ever mentioned this was an after hours call, so if there was a price premium, shame on Sears for not telling me. I was given two time slots to choose from with no mention of this being an after hours time slot. There is no line item on the invoice that mentions anything about an after hours call premium, and even if it did, I still should have been told before anyone was ever scheduled to come out to my house. The parts in total were approximately $50 bucks. If you want to debate it and say they cost $100, very well, labor was still excessive. I was not given 5 options, I was given one. I did not decide to choose an option that was or was not a band-aid repair because I was not given one. Your tech said I needed two new contactors, a new capacitor and should replace the second capacitor with a run start capacitor. That was the only option I was given and he did not explain what the point of the run start capacitor was for, nor mentioned if that was going to add a significant cost to the repair (I still have no idea if that actually did). I trusted your tech's opinion and took his advice (consequently the only repair option he gave me). When the second tech came out to fix the control wires, I asked him to double check the workmanship on the AC unit. When he came back in I asked him how it looked and he said he had to install a "starter kit". I don't know what a starter kit consists of, but I can only assume that that's related to the run start capacitor, and I can only assume that the first tech failed at properly installing the new capacitor(s). The first tech told me the cause of our problem to begin with was because a capacitor tipped over and shorted out the contactors. When he (the first tech) told me that he was going to install the new contactors and capacitors I asked him if they were supposed to be mounted and he said yes and that they (Sears) always do that. What then, is this starter kit for? The bracket that was supposed installed by the first tech in the first place? Look, we've had our house for about 4 years now and we've had to put about $30k into this place. I've had contractors from plumbers to painters out here and I've even had Sears out here twice before this incident. Up until this point I've had really good experiences with all of the folks we've paid to get this house into shape including Sears. The prior two times you guys were out here you did a great job, the price was reasonable and I have no complaints whatsoever about the work performed the other two times. This time, Sears screwed up. Your tech can't argue with pictures so he had to fess up there. I think the rest of the information he gave you about giving me options and so forth were fabricated so he could try to save face. He lied to you. And again, no one ever told me there was a premium for the time slot I was given (not asked for, but given as an option). Please feel free to call me if you'd prefer to continue the conversation over the phone. I think the review/grade I gave for this service call was very fair. I have nothing to gain or lose here, I think I've been very matter of fact with my comments and they reflect the service call appropriately.

I want to apologize for the recent experience you had with our company. It is clear the job was not completed to our high standards that we have. We have brought the technician into our office and talked to him about what happened. We were a bit surprised as he is one of our most asked for technicians by our customers. We do not tolerate technicians smoking on customers property and the technician has been notified of this and dealt with accordingly. The wire stripping issue the tech admitted was an honest mistake on his part. From our GPS it shows he was out at your house from 6-830PM after already working since 730am that day. He admitted he had forgotten to go down and clean up his mess after completing his work. In order to fix the wiring problem our technician left, our dispatcher will be calling you to have a different technician come out and resolve the problem at no cost to you. I searched around on Amazon and could not find a price to send a certified, trained tech to your house in a fully stocked truck after hours to diagnose an issue and install parts (I can assure you that we pay more than $50 for all of the parts the technician installed). You paid for a service for our tech to come out after hours and fix your broken AC unit. You were presented a list of 5 options to choose from repair wise and you chose the middle option, not the least expensive (band-aid option). Had you chosen the band-aid option, your cost would have been less than the amount you paid. You decided you wanted more than the band-aid repair, so in turn, you paid more. We again apologize for the experience you had with our company and we thank you for notifying us and allowing us to resolve it.

I have used this company for years and have always been pleased. I have an appointment between 9-12 today. I called their office before 9am to see where I was on the schedule. I was told the technician was finishing his first job and that I was his 3rd job. A while later I was in the basement and missed a call from them. I didn't call them back because I "assumed" they were calling to tell me the tech was on his way. After 30 minutes and no technician I called them back and was told that since I didn't answer they sent the tech on a different job. I don't know why they would move me out to 4th when they told me I was 3rd, Maybe they don't make notes in their customer records when they take a call from the customer. If they had seen that I called in and was told that the technician was finishing one job and I was to be after his 2nd job would they have still moved me out? It just doesn't seem professional. I am disappointed.

I purchased the service with the assumption that I was just going to do some preventive maintenance and get a filter change. Five minutes into the inspection, however, the tech discovered a carbon dioxide leak due to a cracked heat exchanger and actually had to put the furnace out of service due to the potential health risks. I had someone at the house later that evening replacing the furnace (not through Sears as a different service provider was cheaper).

It was really confusing. They said it included a cleaning and it didn't and then they asked me to have me sign up for the service plan which was $160 which again didn't include the cleaning so I had to hire someone else out to clean my furnace after I had paid them for their big deal as well as $160 for this maintenance. It was just a nightmare. I even called them before I bought the big deal on Angie's list I called them and I said I just want to make sure that this included the furnace cleaning because that is what I am really after and he said yes it does. Well it totally didn't go that way. Other than getting my filter changed we didn't accomplish anything. Responsiveness was good. I put that request at 11 o'clock at night and they had called somewhere around 6:30 or 7 the next morning. It was super fast. He showed up right when he was supposed to.

I am selling my condo and had the required home inspection done. The inspector noted that my thermostat was reading higher than the ambient temperature, so I needed a professional to check the system. Unfortunately the buyer then asked me to completely replace my furnace, which I did not think was necessary since it was operating w/o any issue. The technician (Brian S.) was able to come into my home, diagnose the issue, and provide an on-site minor repair to the unit (re-connecting a wire that seems to have come loose). He was incredibly thorough, took his time, and explained all the details of what was going on w/the unit. He was then able to provide a write-up that advised that the unit needed regular maintenance, but was fully functional. Therefore we were able to counter the buyer's request and we will not be replacing the furnace before is necessary. I was pleased that Sears is honest company and understood that I was not in a position to replace the unit unless it was really necessary. Glad to see there are trustworthy companies out there that do a great job at a very reasonable price (I used the Angie's List coupon). Highly recommended!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
