Second, although the car was only two weeks past warranty, and 6000 miles under the limit, neither Byers nor the car maker would provide any relief on cost. In addition to the repeated repairs listed above, the last time I picked up the car, it was only running on seven cylinders, even though it was running on all eight when I took it in. This was after they had the car for three weeks to try and diagnose the problem. I was told that the only way to fix it correctly was to replace the entire engine for $9100. I took the car to another auto service and they replaced a faulty coil pack for $175 that corrected the miss. As a shade-tree mechanic, even I know that checking for spark is the first thing you do for a miss. Then when I tried to resolve the issue with them, they were rude, sarcastic and unresponsive. Never again!
Description of Work: Replaced failed timing chain on 1999 Jaguar. Repair failed, requiring another new chain and a new cylinder head. New cylinder head leaked oil, due to over-tightening my mechanic. Leaking oil ruined alternator. Intalled new cylinder head and alternator. Car still doesn't run right. Absolutely terrible. First of all, there was a timing chain upgrade recommended by the car maker for this car, but Byers never notified me of it on visits prior to the initial failure.

We do not drive our Forester much, and when we do, we usually use it for short trips (average 10 minutes/trip), so we don't put much mileage on the car. Consequently, we only take it for oil changes about every 6 months or so. It may sound silly, but as a woman, part of what I like about Byers over Valvoline or other inexpensive oil change places is that they don't take advantage of my ignorance about my car to sell me additional products that I don't need. Perhaps it balances out in the end, since Byers is more expensive for oil changes, but I also prefer to have the car maintenanced by certified Subaru folks. I also like it that there is a shuttle guy who either can take you home or to Easton while they work on the car.
Description of Work: We have been servicing our 2004 Subaru Forester at Byers Imports since we purchased it, mostly for oil changes and regular maintenance. We have found the service to be reliable. We receive regular coupons in the mail and by email, and the scheduling is relatively easy. We also own a 1993 Subaru Impreza, and we recently took it to Byers for a 90,000 service (that cost about $1000). Ordinarily, we take the Impreza to Valvoline because the oil changes are much cheaper ($32, rather than $50 or so).

I TOLD MY HUSBAND TO VISIT EVAN'S AUTOMOTIVE, ON MORSE ROAD, BUT HE THOUGHT THE DEALERSHIP WOULD BE MUCH KINDER FOR A BULB REPLACEMENT. $45 LATER HE WAS SHOCKED! I NORMALLY TAKE THE CAR FOR SERVICE, AND EACH TRIP IS LENGTHY, AND EXPENSIVE! THE EMPLOYEES ARE VERY FRIENDLY, AND LOANER CARS ARE AVAILABLE.

WE HAVE BEEN SATISFIED WITH BYERS SERVICE IN THE PAST FOR OUR VOLKSWAGEN, IN FACT ARE THRILLED WITH THEIR VOLVO SERVICE DEPARTMENT (DIFFERENT REPORT). THIS TIME WAS TERRIBLE. WHEN I SCHEDULED THE REGULAR MAINTENANCE, I TOLD THE REP. THAT WE WOULD ALSO BE NEEDING ONE OF THE POWER WINDOW MOTORS REPLACED. IT, LIKE 2 BEFORE IT, HAD BROKEN, AND I KNEW EXACTLY WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. SHE QUOTED ME A PRICE OF $50 ADDITIONAL FOR THE WINDOW WORK, WHICH SEEMED LOW, BUT DIDN'T QUESTION IT. ON THE SERVICE DAY, WHEN THEY CALLED TO TELL ME THEY WERE DONE, NOT ONLY DID THEY TELL ME THAT MY WINDOW MOTOR WAS BROKEN (WHICH I ALREADY KNEW) BUT THAT IT WOULD COST OVER $600 TO REPLACE IT! TURNS OUT THE $50 WAS TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM, I TOLD THEM HOW TO FIX, AND EXPECTED THEM TO ORDER THE PART, AND FIX IT THAT DAY. AFTER INSISTING ON TALKING TO A MANAGER, THEY REMOVED THE $50 CHARGE, AND WE TOOK THE CAR ELSEWHERE TO GET THE WINDOW FIXED FOR A FRACTION OF THE COST (APPROX. $150)! WHAT A SCAM!

I BOUGHT AN 02 X-TYPE IN 12/04 FROM JAG CLEVELAND-5K CHEAPER THAN BYERS. AFTER 1 MONTH IT NEEDED A TAILLIGHT BULB-UNDER WARRANTY. 1ST TIME I WAS PROVIDED A TAURUS TO DRIVE. YOU HAVE TO COMPLAIN TO GET ONE OF THE JAG LOANERS. MY DOOR MECHANISM WAS BROKEN WHEN I GOT IT BACK AND I HAD TO TAKE IT IN AGAIN AFTER SEVERAL ENTRIES THROUGH THE PASSENGER DOOR. I CALLED IN JUNE TO GET MY A/C LOOKED AT- IT WASN'T COLD. IT TOOK 2 WEEKS TO GET THEM ON THE PHONE AND 4 WEEKS TO GET IN AND GET A JAG LOANER. THEY DIDN'T FIX IT. I TOOK IT IN AGAIN AFTER MANY NON-RETURNED CALLS AND THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE MANAGER TOOK OVER. THE CAR WAS FINALLY FIXED. IT ONLY NEEDED REFRIGERANT AND I HAD NO A/C ALL SUMMER. I LOVE THE JAG- BUT WOULD NOT BUY AGAIN UNTIL THERE'S A WARRANTY SERVICE ALTERNATIVE IN COLUMBUS. BYERS HAS MADE STAFF CHANGES. HOPEFULLY IT WILL GET BETTER.

OUR CAR HAS STALLED NUMEROUS TIMES AND REALLY MAKES ME THINK THAT THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE AND UNFIT TO CONTINUE DRIVING. WE EVEN BOUGHT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AT BYERS AND WE STILL CONTINUE TO HAVE OUR CAR SERVICED FOR THE SAME PROBLEMS ON A ROUTINE BASIS. I HAVE TALKED WITH THE GM AT BYERS NAMED DAVID JOHNSON, THE SALES MANAGER MARK GEEDING, AND EVEN THE SERVICE MANAGER TOM BEARD. NONE OF THESE INDIVIDUALS HAVE MADE US BELIEVE TO THIS POINT THAT THEY CAN HELP US AT ALL. WE ARE CONTINUING TO WAIT ON A PHONE CALL AT THIS TIME. MR. BEARD EVEN CALLED A CORPORATE REPRESENTATIVE AT VOLVO NAMED INGEMAR SVELA. HE REALLY DID NOT HELP US OTHER THAN OFFERING US A CHANCE TO BUY A BRAND NEW VOLVO AT A DISCOUNTED PRICE, WHICH IS THE LAST THING WE WOULD WANT TO DO. WE ARE JUST WANTING SOMEONE TO STEP UP IN THIS SITUATION AND TAKE CARE OF OUR PROBLEMS COMPLETELY.
