Causal water built a swimming pool for me two and a half years ago. Their final task was to install an automatic pool cover. The cover did not work. They claimed it was an electrical issue, thus my fault. A qualified electrician checked and there was no problem. Casual Water promised to repair the cover. They sent someone and it worked for a day. I called them again, they sent someone again. Still the cover never worked for more than a few hours after a number of vague efforts by their ever changing workmen. They acknowledged that it needed repair but since they never repaired it, two summers have passed without a cover. Finally I asked that they replace it. I still owed them approximately $4,700 out of approximately $90,000. I explained that I wouldn't pay until I had a working pool cover. They sent an invoice several times and then said they would take some action if the bill wasn't paid. Under contract, I would be in default if the entire sum weren't paid and they owned the pool equipment and could repossess it. In point of fact "default" can be adjudicated only in court. No one can simply declare a contract to be in default. Nevertheless, when I was gone for several days, with no warning, they entered my property and took the pool heater. They knew I had little recourse but to replace the pool cover and pool heater because attorneys fees would be so high I wouldn't take them to court. And they were right. However, when removing the pool heater, instead of unscrewing it they cut the pipes. Thus as of now the pump cannot operate and the water is not clean. This was such a CHILLING ACT OF GRATUITOUS VENGEANCE I feel that it is necessary to admonish everyone to stay away from this unsavory company. As we all know there are three sides to every story: my side, their side and the true side. In this case, the exception proves the rule. Mine is the entirely true side because there is no subtext and no backstory. I had nothing to gain by simply wanting a working pool cover. I had acted in good faith from the moment I met these people. Many friends and family came and went from my house during two summers and all know that the pool cover never worked. I have emails from Casual Water saying that they always keep their word and live up to their contractual obligations. The reality is that they are inept, untruthful and menacing. Since we live in an area where there are so very many choices of companies to build and maintain swimming pools, surely hiring Casual Water would be a serious mistake. Finally, I have also contacted the Better Business Bureau and their report will be made public shortly. I suggest you look at it. Apparently there is only one other review of Casual Water on Angie's List. Also an F.

Response from Casual Water
When the autocover was initially installed in the spring of 2014, we submitted our final bill, due 10 days from invoice date. [member name removed] never paid her bill and subsequently reported issues with its functionality. We made 3 service calls during summer 2014 without finding anything wrong. In the fall, when it was time to close the pool for the winter (put a winter cover on), we DID find the autocover was stuck, and sticking and concluded that it was manufactured ‘tight’. We let her know that when the pool would be opened in the spring, we’d replace the fabric with a looser-fitting cover. She subsequently complained that her pool had gotten stained due to there being no autocover for 1 summer, which is incorrect, but we placated her for the inconvenience of not having a working autocover by acid-washing the pool (a $795 service) in the spring at no additional cost. On May 21, 2015 we replaced the cover, tested it and it worked. We sent another invoice. [member name removed] called again a few days later to report the cover “not working” and on June 10 we returned to make an adjustment, again leaving it working. We made another payment request in July. Again she called to say it wasn’t working. We sent our service man to the pool and were able to determine there was no power to it, but we had no access to her circuit breaker panel. We reported to her that there was an issue with power and suggested she call her electrician. On September 9, we again requested final payment on the project and indicated we would take action if no payment was made and her response was an angry one. After exhausting all efforts to collect this debt, the heater was removed from her property in accordance with our contractual rights. Her comment that we were particularly malicious in our method of removing the heater is facetious. There was no other method to remove the heater, as she incorrectly states. We felt the heater was ‘equal-value’ to the $4,700 debt. I have told her that if she settles this debt, I will return the heater, otherwise, I will have to sell it to recover our loss. Otherwise, we billed her according to the agreed upon contract price. As our contract states, warrantee work (repair and maintenance after completion) is due when the contract is paid in full. In this case it wasn’t, and we continued to show up. As you can see, we are dedicated to our customers’ satisfaction. We made numerous service calls to determine the cause of the problem she experienced but never witnessed the problem ourselves until the fall 2014, at which point we took pains to resolve her problem, obtaining another cover, acid-washing her pool for free, continuing to respond when she complained it still didn’t work, and ultimately determining that an electrical failure was the cause, which unfortunately for the customer, relies on an outside contractor that they have to pay for separately.

I signed the contract to have to pool installed. I paid the down payment and the company started to give me the run around. I asked for my money back and they continue to not respond. I would not recommend this company.
