Austin did a professional job, knows his business, and was a pleasure to talk to and learn from. He also charges a very reasonable price and provides warranty and guarantee if any follow-up needed. He also had to suffer through high 90F humid weather for the outside work without a bit of complaining!

It went incredibly well. Austin was helpful, friendly & eager to work with me. The home I was selling was passive solar with venting under the foundation, which made it more complex. Highland put together a plan, and got the job done much quicker than I anticipated, and extended theguarantee to the new owner.

Austin came to assess the situation after the house had failed in a home inspection. He walked us through the process and told us about the equipment that would be installed. He knew that we were under a time constraint so he was able to fit us in his schedule. The job was done in a very professional manner and works beautifully. After the new test results were in our level was way down and the house passed. I definitely would hire him again.

Dan judged that they could meet their guarantee (of 2pCi/l) with a slab penetration in a far corner of the basement that caused almost no loss of use of any basement basement space. The installation by Austin and Dan was very neatly done both in the basement and on the outside of the house. The result was a reduction of radon level from 5.6 to 1.2.

Response from Highland Air Inc
This home had radiant heat in the majority of the basement floor (pipes buried in the concrete circulating hot water) which was the deciding factor for using the far corner of the basement for the suction point location. At the homeowner's request we used the smallest fan available which provided enough reduction in radon to satisfy the homeowner. There is no safe level for radon and Highland Air strives to keep radon to a minimum. The appropriate radon fan would have reduced the radon to outdoor levels.

After my house tested over recommended radon limits, I contracted with Dan to install a radon mitigation system and replace my sump pump. Dan and Austin were professional, responsive, knowledgeable, and prices were competitive. The job was done in accordance with all recommended standards. They are mindful of energy efficiency by using the proper fan size for your specific job and guarantee results without additional cost. The initial post mitigation test showed levels reduced from 10 to 0.7. I would highly recommend them.

Description of Work: Air filter change to fix furnace that would hot run. Simple, but I did not see the thin film of crust on the filter that blocked air flow. The technician didn't have to look as it was evident by the air pressure built up inside when removing filter. At closer inspection - yep, air filter.

Highland Air did a superb job mitigating the radon at our home, reducing the radon level in our basement to the same as outdoor air! Dan first scientifically evaluated the situation at our home. While other contractors proposed up to 4 slab penetrations and a tangle of piping, Dan proposed a single penetration followed by testing. He and Austin designed an elegant, unobtrusive system that looks and works beautifully. They were punctual and kept the work areas spotless. We loved the scientific, intelligent approach and the excellent solution for a difficult problem.

I live out of state and was in contract to sell a home. Following a failed radon inspection, I called Highland Air, Inc. I was in the area for a short time. Dan came out right away and explained what would be done. Price was reasonable based on the size of the home and installation required. I had to return to my home out of state and Dan performed the installation. The radon was retested and at an appropriate level. I returned to look at the work performed and it met my expectation. The area was left clean and the house sale went through.

Description of Work: We had a 19 year old radon mitigation system in our house that was no longer functioning. I contacted Dan at Highland Air and explained the situation. I provided photos and data concerning the nonfunctional existing system. Dan prepared the materials needed to refurbish the old system. He arrived at my house as scheduled, reviewed the project and provided a cost for the project on the spot. Satisfied with the scope of work necessary and cost, I opted to have Highland Air preform the work. Dan went to work immediately, replacing an old evacuation fan with a new energy efficient model, sealing a multi-pump sump basin, removed a pipe cap and provided a radon test kit to ensure the effectiveness of his work. As a result of his radon mitigation the radon levels dropped well below government established minimum acceptable readings.

It was a positive experience, if you can view a $1500 expense as positive, because of the professionalism of Highland Airs, Inc. I have detailed the experience fully in the above notes. I am a member of Angies List and have used the service twice in the last month. Once to purchase a new stockade fence for my personal residence and this time for a real estate sale process. We were selling my parents home as they are moving to a full care facility and we needed this contract to proceed as quickly as possible. it was the first offer we had on the home for 6 months and timing was critical. Highland Air was sympathetic to my family needs and the time issue.
Description of Work: We were in process of inspections for a real estate sale. The buyer had a radon test performed and found very high level of 17. We agreed to pay for radon remediation to continue with the contract. I searched Angies list and made several calls to firms who provide this service. I sent an email to Highland Air, Inc becasue due to the early morning hour phone service was not available yet. In my email I gave the address for the residence. Within 2 hours I received a phone reply from Dan Sharron, owner of Highland Air, who was in the area for personal reasons. He asked if he coud get a look inside the property to determine the needs and supply an estimate. I met him there a short while later and we reviewed the process and Dan's background with radon and his plans for remediation. He explained that he was off to Florida the next Monday on vacation and the only open day he had for installation was Sunday. Although he had never worked on Sunday he agreed to take the job to assist with my deadline issue. His price was considerably lower than others and he had good reviews on Angies List. He guaranteed his work and was the utmost professional. He installed the system exactly as he described, in the manner in which we agreed would be the best option for the new owner. He was able to place the system so that it was practically invisible and would not interfere with any remodel work the new owners may undertake. I would not hesitate to recommend Highland Air based on the service and value provided. Dan supplied a retest kit and the lab results came quickly as stated, and the new reading was 0.4 picoCuries, the same as an outdoor reading. Dan left the home cleaner than when he started, he was on time and performed exactly as he stated. I left a message for Dan and he returned my phone call from Florida while on vacation. When we found there was a radon issue the real estate agent gave me names of Remediation Companies in the area and Highland Air was not among them. When I explained to the agent that I found someone on my own from Angies List and gave the price and reaction time, she was impressed. She asked for Highlands business card so she can recommend them in the future.

Dan arrived as scheduled about a week later, and carried out all the work previously proposed in a timely manner. Everything was done exactly as stated. He also closed up the 4 inch hole in the side of the house from the inside, and put a false vent cover over the hole on the outside so nothing looked out of place. I happened to be available with some time on my hands, and assisted a couple of times when a 3rd pair of hands was useful. Having watched Dan throughout the project I can testify that he takes the greatest of care to do the job professionally, i.e to do it right. When he finished that day, Dan left us with a radon test kit, which we used a few days later. The subsequent results showed the radon level to be 1.5, and our electronic monitoring confirms it has stabilized at much lower levels than we had previously seen. We are very happy we had the work done, and also happy that we chose Highland Air. We would not hesitate to recommend Dan for somebody needing radon mitigation.
Description of Work: We have a new (2 year old) ranch style home, and had been electronically monitoring the radon level in the basement for the past 12 months. The readings fluctuated between about 2.5 and 6.5 depending on the season, weather conditions, if basement windows were open, etc. so we decided we needed to activate the passive mitigation system the builder had 'installed'. We contacted Dan, and he came to the house a couple of days later to take a look at what we had in the attic & basement. The builder had done some of the preliminary mitigation work by running a 4 inch PVC pipe from beneath the basement floor up to the attic. But the pipe was then run straight out through the side of the house, just above a front bedroom window. Dan pointed out that radon must vent thru the ROOF, not the side. He gave us an estimate to: re-route the PVC pipe back across the attic to the back of the house; attach an 'in line' fan; run the pipe from the fan up through the roof; add a power outlet for the fan (something the builder had thoughtfully omitted); caulk/seal a substantial number of grooves that had been cut in the basement cement floor (which provide a source of entry for radon gas if there is any beneath your house); supply a lid to better seal the basement sump pump hole (ditto).

I was mandated by the bank to get the radon concern taken care of. I called Dan and explained my rush...couldn't close on my new house without the system being installed and showing proven results. He took care of it within a couple of days, followed up with a letter to my bank, and provided the results as soon as they came in. The radon levels went from 7+ to .6. (point 6). He was very nice and worked very neatly. I would highly recommend Highland Air.

I recently sold my home and inspection came back with high levels of radon. Since my daughter's family lived on same street as myself, I had her home tested and her radon levels were even higher than mine. Anyway, I received several estimates and I chose Highland Air because I immediately felt the professionalism and knowledge Dan possessed. His company only deals with mitigation and nothing else. It's not just another product to his company. I was very please with the work he did for us and now know my grandchildren are not being contaminated with radon gas level higher than the accepted levels.

After a neighbor's home was sold and a radon mitigation system was a requirement for the sale, we decided to have our house tested. We bought a kit at Lowes and did the test. It came back with a very high reading. We had another test done a few weeks later and it also came back very high. We called Highland Air to discuss a mitigation system. Dan Sharron came to look at the house and review the two lab reports. He explained in great detail what was required for a radon mitigation system to work. He made an appointment for a few weeks later for the work. Dan and his son arrived and went right to work. They installed the fan, wiring, housing and pipe from the basement to above the roofline. They were very professional and polite. They asked for homeowner input to make sure the system's appearance was satisfactory. Dan explained how the system worked and what to do if there were any problems. Dan left us with a test kit with detailed instructions on how and when to conduct the test. We completed the test and it came back at .4, well below the 4.0 recommended safe level. We were very happy with the work overall and would recommend Highland Air without reservation.

Excellent - We are in the process of purchasing a home that did not pass the radon test and needed assistance with a radon mitigation system. Dan Sharonwas very quick to respond to my phone call and made an appointment to see the home withn 1 day of my call. Dan met us at the potential home site and explained all of our options in great detail. He took the time to educate us on radon mitigation and explained that an expensive mitigation system was not necessary. We fully appreciated his honesty and willingness to educate us. He could have completely taken advantage of us and our lack of knowledge of radon mitigation. Thank you for not only taking the time to educate us but for putting our mind at ease.
