Once the heater was installed, we started smelling a gas odor when we would be on the landing going downstairs, where the gas burner is located. Bob was out here to look at it, was told on numerous visits that it was this part, then that part, finally after 6 to 8 visits to fix it, it turned out to be a cracked pilot. Since installing this heater we've had the circulator pump replaced twice. First was less than a yr after the initial install, we were charged by Northern $483.00 for this. The last was this past winter, by another company, Access Heating and cooling. That cost $334.00. I did call Northern first, but they never called me back. The second circulator Northern installed not only went bad but was leaking. After the initial install I had to call Northern Numerous times because of heating problems. I had more problems with this heater in the short time I had it than in the 9 yrs with the old one, which was going on 30yrs old. Zone valves and various other parts had to be replaced, and the last time they actually came, Bob told me if it was the thermostat, he'd have to charge me. He never put new ones in with the system in the first place, which should have been done. We were also told with the installation of the central air for the first three yrs we'd receive yearly cleaning at no cost. That wasn't the case. Overall we have been extremely dissatisfied with the service we have experienced with Northern Heating and plumbing. Their service has continually gone down hill over the years. I would never call them again. They don't return phone calls anyway. Update, We have always had a problem with the A/C keeping up when its hot out. I was told by Bob, that this was normal in hot weather 80 - 90 degrees and up. I have since had another Heating /air conditioning/ plumbing company come to do a cleaning. I explained the problem with the A/C not keeping up. I can set the thermostat to 70 and as the day gets hotter, by the mid afternoon the temperature in the house reaches 77 up to 79 degrees. The same is true if I lower it even further. I was told by this new tech. that my A/C is 3 ton and is plenty big enough to keep up for the size of my house, amount of windows, ect. He found countless leaks in the duct work, and said the supply and return plenum were not installed properly and needed to be replaced. The estimate was $775.00. I have since done some investigating on my own and found that the new tech is right. The supply is too small. The filter gets sucked right up against the vent when I go to replace it. It should not do that. I've also been up in the atttic to check things out, and found that thesupply is leaking badley where it enters the air handler, also on every duct that enters the handler.. So basically we are loosing a good amount of cooled air into the attic. Which is making the A/C run constantly and still not cooling the house properly because of the leaks, and there is not enough air supply to give the right amount of cooled air to the house. In order to have the proper supply of cooled air, you need to have an equal amount of supplied air. (hot air that is taken out of the house) I would not call Bob to fix this issue, because he origanally said that this was normal, so he was aware of the problem and didn't care, and because I'd be afraid they would make it worse than it already is. We will have this problem fixed when we have the money to do so. I would not even consider hiring Northern air conditioning and heating company, as it appears Bob is only interested in getting his money, not the quality of the work that they do.
Description of Work: We had been using Northern for quite a few years so we had them replace our old gas heater with a Dunkirk gas heater. That we were told was much more energy efficient. Did not receive new thermostats. Also had a Goodman central air conditioner installed with 6 vents in rooms upstairs One in each of three bedrooms, one in the kitchen, two in the living/ dining room.Bathrooms not included. They did install a thermostat for that in the upstairs hallway. We live in a high ranch(approximately 1750 square feet) so we were told no vents need to be installed downstairs as cold air goes down. but that was not the case, so we had two vents added to the bedrooms downstairs. I paid additional to have someone ele's do one of them.
