+ -1 moreThe windows were installed in a very short period period of time. That was great. However we never received a phone call in regards to financing. When we called to confirm that we were financed it took a couple of days of phone tag to get an answer. Also piles of small debris were left on our front walk. Other then that it was a great experience from beginning to end.

+ -1 moreI was approached by a young guy who rang my doorbell stating that Anderson was doing work in my neighborhood and would i like a free quote? He told me it couldn't be just my husband, it had to be both of us at the appointment or they wouldn't give us the $250 coupon they were giving out. We set the appointment up by phone when we were contacted the next day. I asked how long the appointment would take and was told approximately an hour. The rep showed up a little early which was fine, but his tactic was so old school, high pressure sales that i was ready to throw him out the door after the first half hour. He proceeded to show us pictures of his kids, etc. and ended up taking us through a grueling 5 inch thick binder of slides on how his windows compare to others, etc. When the quote for a 1300 sq. ft ranch came in at 25,000 and he realized we weren't signing right there, he called his "office" at 7:45pm on a Friday night to see if we could take the last spot to get others to see our home after the work was done and therefore get us a discount. That took 5K off the price and by now he had been at our house almost 3 hours and i had told him off the bat we weren't making any decisions that day. We also told him we had a dinner reservation at 8pm and he was still at our house at 7:50pm. I finally told him we had to go and he had to leave - he walked off in a huff not even giving us a card or any kind of contact information and we were seriously considering these windows but did not want to be pressured into making a decision that instant. This guy was a scammer and this company should be worried about their longstanding reputation being tarnished. We are going somewhere else!

+ -1 moreThe first rep was friendly and the product was good but he didn't write down everything that he was saying. I insisted so he wrote it down finally on the back of the estimate. The appt was very long and we had another commitment so another appt. was arranged. Appts. were always done by someone else on the phone and they always asked a bunch of silly questions which became annoying. Rep couldnt make second appt and we were notified at last minute. Another appt was made and had to go through same questions asked. Second appt answered all our questions and the product seemed good but the price was very high. A few days later received a call that we had been selected to receive "thousands of dollars" off cost of windows if we allowed company to show our house to others from the outside only. A different rep came to discuss this and said that the first rep made a mistake in his estimate. Now he was offereing about $100 off the original estimate. The whole thing seemed like a big scam and we were very displeased. The second rep left our home in a huff and annoyed because we werent buying his scam . The product is a good one but the reps and their process stinks and prices are high. Wouldnt trust them to do any work for me. Joined Angies list to get more information on window replacement companies and will look elsewhere now. Glad we didn't make a mistake with a shady company with poor procedures and principles.

+ 0 moreThey were great. Any time I work with any contractor when something comes up in the job I want it to be their responsibility and not mine and it completely was. There were problems with the job, they dealt with it and didn't charge me anymore money. They fixed the problem and they were terrific about it. I didn't have to fight with them when a problem came up. One of the windows were shipped the wrong size. It was a large picture window, they installed it and then they agreed it was wrong because it didn't align up. They took it out, ordered a new one, reinstalled it and put everything back. It was perfect and they didn’t charge me anything for any of it. They were great. They did excellent quality and I had a terrific experience.
Description of Work: I used Renewal By Andersen of Western NY to install three sliding doors and five windows. They also closed up two windows.

+ -1 moreSuggestions for Angie's list users: This business is an extremely competitive one. No matter who you deal with, don't be kafoozled into signing anything in haste. Take time to check out the alternatives. For example, Home Depot came in with a bid that was about $25,500, also for Andersons, but in a vinyl-clad wood version, rather than the Renewals by Anderson exclusive offering. Home Depot also showed me comparative customer and technical ratings that evaluated Anderson as a middling product. The goal of your evaluation -- as with anything you buy -- to get the right value for your needs, one that balances quality and price.
Description of Work: This is an INITIAL reaction only, based on their sales and bidding process. I have contracted for an installation, which will begin in a week. The Anderson product offered by them is clearly a premium product at a premium price. The sales rep, and the technician who followed up for measurements were prompt, efficient and thorough. Concerns: 1. They were extremely eager to get a signed commitment, and noted that if I changed my mind, I had three days to do so. (This is a legal requirement in NY) 2. They were also insistent on a 33% up front deposit. As it happens, NY mandates only a 25% deposit. 3. Unfortunately, three days was not enough to evaluate the alternatives. Subsequent bids came in at about $5,000 less. 4. In their urgency to get a signed contract, they represented that the install would take place in early March, before the Spring rush. Then the date became mid-March. Then it became the last week of March. Frankly, I preferred a later installation when the weather will be warmer and I won't be heating the great out-of-doors for three days during installation, but the constant changes raised my furrowed eyebrows. I am, however, proceeding with the contract, and will update this after installation, and hopefully also in about a year when I can assess the impact on my heating bill.

We set an appointment. Two clean cut representatives came to our house punctually, talked with us for about two hours, answered our questions, and gave us an estimate. We liked what we learned about Anderson Windows and their thorough installation operations. The interior moulding finish would match our current interior woodworking. We wanted very much to have Renewal By Andersen of Western NY do the replacement, but the cost was too high for our budget. END

+ -1 moreThey have a good quality product and they educated us pretty well, but they spent too much time at our home. They took up like four hours in the afternoon. There was nothing wrong with the windows, but the price was exorbitantly high. When we told him that's too much money, somebody else called us instead of the guy that we talked to and he said he could get us at 55,000 or something, but we were getting higher-grade windows from the other provider. They should not break on the first estimate. It was a long process going backwards with different people to trying to sell us. It was a little on the high pressure side.

The president of the company came out to our house afterwards and he was great but my impression after the salesman was here was that I would never do business with them. The quoted price was $16,000 and their responsiveness was good but we did have to reschedule once.

They had answers and were well trained. They were not the lowest priced estimate but they were well worth it. We were highly impressed with them and we would highly recommend them.

+ -1 moreDidn't care for the sales pitch---very pushy--said to get a home equity loan--said our house would not sell if we didn't get new windows--preferably theirs--talked tooooo long, an hour would be fine. We just didn't feel very good about the whole experience.
Description of Work: We did not have any services done due to the extreme cost-----28,000 for whole house windows--and only one picture window Did feel that the product was good but it should be for that price---if we were younger with a new house it would be worth it because you would probably get your money back long run, however we are retired and it would not pay to do that.

+ -1 moreDo act kindly throughout your visit even without a sale. Do leave after about an hour since after that I am not listening any more. Do offer suggestions on how to finance but do not judge your clients on their financial situation. Do leave on a friendly basis because you WILL get a call back if you do because the windows speak for themselves. Do not call back the next day repeating how stupid we are to pass up such a deal and that the prices will now go up because we did not sign immediately. Life is too short to have someone come into my home and make me feel bad, Having survived cancer I now live with integrity and want to be around those who do too.
Description of Work: Before setting up appointment for estimate I specifically told the woman on the phone that I was not ready to start work and that I just needed an estimate to prepare to change the windows later in the year. First of all, they called me several times over the year to set up appointments for estimate. After the 4 or 5th time I told them to come over and still insisted that I was not going to do my windows right then, I needed about t6months to a year to put money aside for this big job. He Mr. Scott arrived on time and made sure my husband and I were present before starting his sale pitch. After 3 hours of sitting with him, of course, he did measure my windows too, we were totally exhausted, hungry, thirsty and just plain bored of hearing how wonderful these windows are. Granted I know Anderson windows are the best and that is the window I will use when I decide to replace them but Mr Scott talked for 3 hours and yes as the other person said it felt like a timeshare meeting. After he crunched some some numbers he came up with a large investment for us, although he said the windows will pay for themselves over time which may be true but when I told him we did not have that kind of money on hand he suggested we get a home equity loan. I told him I wasn't going to do that since I had just paid off my house and being close to 60 years old I didn't want a loan like that for the next 15 years well into my 70's. What was the straw that broke the camels back was that when he knew we were not making the deal there and then me started to tell us how stupid we were and that we are living our lives backwards.I told him we had some credit card debt to take care of and he said he couldn't believe we live our lives in debt and offered we take out a larger loan to pay everything off. It was ok to suggest this but it was the manner in which he suggested it. I felt like I was in an interigation and we were bad little children getting ourselves in such a position. He said he would never live his life that way. We finally told him he had to leave because we had another appointment and he still took his time leaving and after telling him that we needed at least 24 hours to talk about this decision he insisted that his financial girl call us and also gave a call to his supervisor to get us a sweeter deal. It all sounded great but his attitude turned us right off. He was kind and helpful before he knew we were not signing on the dotted line that moment then his other personality came out and left a really bad feeling in the pit of my stomach. There are many ways to sell a product and this may work for some people but it does not work for most. If I could give some advice to this company it would be to treat people as you want to be treated even without an immediate sale. Before he turned on us my husband and I were going to go with this company in the future but not now. He said that usually if he leaves a house without a deal no one calls him back. Now you know why Mr. Scott.

+ -1 moreWe never used them. They were punctual, but they were not terribly professional. We felt that they had a very good quality window to offer, but their sales pitch was very slick and very pushy. It was a hard sell. What struck us as strange was that they insisted that my wife and I both be there for the estimate instead of just one of us. My wife had to leave the room for a minute, and they stopped and waited for her to come back. It just felt strange. It felt like a timeshare presentation. They were definitely reading from a script. We also got a feeling that they were a little arrogant. We were very unhappy with them.
