Vincent Origlia Plumbing was hired after we experienced severe damage after Hurricane Sandy. He took 2/3 of the money up front and did 1/3 of the job, some of it not very well. Our cut-off valve now cuts off the water pressure in our home as well (not what we wanted). The kitchen sink had to be redone because it was not done correctly at first. We had about 12 appointments canceled. He never came to replace the baseboard heaters that we originally wanted him for and the one heater he put in was not high-efficiency heating as we had been charged for. We finally had to terminate our association with him when he did not show up after several missed appointments. When we asked for our money back he said he'd send it to us. He has told us he was going to send us money for three months now. This was the only contractor that took such advantage of us after Sandy. We have already reported him to the Better Business Bureau and wanted to avoid an Angie's List listing in hopes that he would send us our money as he had promised, numerous times. We still have not received it. Our next step is to the Suffolk County or Long Island licensing board to report his license and then to the State Attorney General. He should not have taken advantage of us.
Description of Work: Put in a cut-off line for our water, put in new shower fixtures for new bathroom, and connected kitchen sink.

Response from Vincent Origlia Plumbing
After hurricane Sandy another plumbing company that works in the Nassau area asked for our help as they were overwhelmed with work. We are one east based company with allot of contractors based on the east end of Long Island. We went to the ravaged area affected by the hurricane and offered our help. We did what we could. When we came upon [member’s name] and her husband and gave her a great price. Still her husband made us feel terrible that they were in “Sandy” area & asked us to cut the price by ANOTHER $500.00 dollars – which we did- at this point we were making no profit. We were/are willing to settle for to [illegible amount] but [illegible] – and demanded $1840.00. She agreed to $350.00 and said she would file. I booked and saw she already filed and was asking for $1840.00! We felt bad because they kept saying how being victims of “Sandy” etc. My husband did all the work he could and then handed over the remainder to the original contractor. We were busy with our obligations. We have been in business over 26 years with never 1 complaint. I spoke with [member’s name] she continued to complain that being in the “Sandy” are she felt taken advantage of. I explained her home was built in 1920 and the next plumber she called in of course recommended an upgrade. In addition, he gave her the going rate. Not the “Sandy” discount she got from us and not the additional $500.00 “Sandy” discount her husband her husband talked my husband into for the last few months she has threatened me with filing with Angie’s List if we didn’t refund $350.00 dollars. I agreed. I’m glad I did my homework- she already filed with Angie’s List and the Better Business Bureau. She (1) lied about the amount she was willing to settle for (2) she lied about already filing. (3) she lied about trying to get something for nothing. Basically my husband is an excellent plumber and gave her the best price yet her husband STILL wanted another $500.00 off the bill. Now she got another plumber in there & saw what it really cost. She decided to upgrade and wants us to pay for it. She is NOT being truthful and is trying to get something for nothing by playing her “Sandy” card. It’s a disgrace to people that really suffered, when we were at the end of the job & knew just the simple baseboard had to go back in, we had to get back to our own customers & referred the work back to our contractor that originally summoned our help. We did nothing wrong this woman has not been truthful and needs to be investigated.
