The job went very well. Richie was prompt, showing up when he said he would and answered all my questions (and I had a lot!), went over all the information I needed to know about the new boiler and its care. He had someone else come (a licensed electrician) to do all the electrical work involved and another person to do the asbestos abatement. I was very pleased with the people he brought in to do these jobs, they worked quickly and cleaned up after themselves, as did Richie when he was done with the job. After the job was completed, Richie came back to make sure everything was working as it should be. As far as his price went, I received estimates from a number of plumbers and, while replacing a boiler is not an inexpensive experience, his price was in the ballpark, not the highest and not the lowest. Even if I had spent a lot more, I don't think things could have gone any better. Everyone connected with this job was terrific from the guys who worked with him to his office manager Ellen (what a sweetheart) and even though I went into this being a little nervous because it was such a big and expensive job, Richie put me at ease and everything went very smoothly. Highly recommended!
Description of Work: I had my boiler (gas) replaced, including the asbestos removal from the existing pipes and the reinsulating of those pipes.

My sewer main pipe cracked on New Year's Eve, flooding my basement with a few inches of dirty water. I called my regular plumber at the time, Vigilante, but they couldn't provide anyone for 3 days. I tried a few additional plumbers until I reached Sessa, who was able to send someone out that night. He was able to figure out that not only was there a cracked pipe but there was also a clog in the main drain that led out to the street. He cleared the out the clog (with his sleeves rolled up to his shoulder - ugh!). I ultimately involved Sessa in replacing the 100 year old clay pipes that had failed. Sessa's now my main plumber. They offer a $130/year service contract, which gets me a discount on work plus scheduling priority.

Came in explained the choices I had and the ups and downs of each choice. I went with the same boiler for price and ease of install. They came in installed the boiler, explained what to expect. They came back for a inspection to make sure the system was working properly along with a 2 year service contract to make sure it was up to spec. They were very clean and OVER TWO THOUSAND cheaper then another popular plumbing company listed.

Expensive insurance coverage for water heaters and boilers. It should include discount for multiple locations or units. Insurance should provide some basic inspection service that others provide, such as glass level replacement, water heater sediment flush, or some tune up service that costs about $39.95 that I bought as additional service from Angie's List promotional service.
Description of Work: Expensive comparing to others such as (national grid/Home service). Warranty should include some boiler/water heater inspection service, that normally listed for $39.95 from Angie's list.

i contacted sessa to repair a water heater that was no longer working and wanted an estimate on the cost to install a new one. the service representative came, took a look at the existing water heater and instead of quoting me a price to install a basic water heater that i wanted to buy from home depot, tried to sell me one of their high end models that was about 4 times the price. i instead ordered the water heater from home depot who sent out one of their service representatives to properly a**** the size water heater that i would need. the home depot guy noticed that my existing water heater did in fact work, but was just somehow on the wrong setting, made the necessary adjustment and cancelled my order at no charge (i only ended up paying a minimal amount for the service call). i find it difficult to believe that the sessa representative overlooked the fact that my existing water heater worked and was on the wrong setting, since he "throughly" examined my existing water heater and tried to convince me that i needed a new one since it was a number of years old. i feel that the sessa representative was dishonest and looking to take financial advantage of me by selling my a water heater that i didn't need. i will never use this company again and warn against anyone interested in using them to be careful

Member, I could see how you may feel misled about the problem with your 11+ year old water heater. Our company prides ourselves and trains our technicians to perform any service in the customers best interest and SAFETY FIRST. Simply raising the temperature on the worn, failed thermostat to treat the symptoms and provide your tenants with scalding hot water is not professional or recommended by us or the manufacture of that tank. Any manufacture will tell you to replace your tank at the 10 year make for many reasons. Failed thermostat (yours), prevent flooding, inefficiency due to scale build-up, scalding water, etc...Your tank is well over 11 years old and overdue to be changed. Sorry if the home center people misled you, but again, safety first. If the F is for safety, well then we'll take it everyday. NOW,as far as the price difference is concerned, we install nothing but the best for our clients even if that means spending more money for better warranties. Comparing apple with apples, nobody can give you a better warranty and can actually be there if a problem should happen, 24/7. I am more than willing to refund your $50.00 so please, at anytime, call our 24 hour 7 day a week 365 day a year phone number and we'll send that out to you immediately. I'll also further advise you the differences in cost and style tanks if you have not replaced them already. Thanks for your input in this matter. We strive to be the best and we don't claim to be perfect. I'll take this as a lesson in lack of communication on my part because if I would have explain to you better in person and in writing, we wouldn't be here. Richie Amato

Dealing with Sessa Plumbing was an excellent experience from first call through completion of work. The woman who took my call was pleasant and knowledgeable about availability of someone to come to my house. She was also direct about initial cost and efficiently scheduled an appointment for the next day, at my convenience. Frank, the plumber, arrived on time, was cordial and professional, assessed what work needed to be done, explained my options and their costs. I make special note that even though this was late Friday afternoon on one of the hottest days of the summer, Frank arranged for one part he did not have on his truck to be brought to him so that he could complete the work for me during this visit. Once he received the part, he proceeded to complete the work efficiently and neatly. Although I decided not to proceed at that time with a complete toilet replacement, I am sure that in the near future I will be calling Sessa to do that work.

Description of Work: We discovered a gas leak by the gas meter in the basement. I looked on Angie's list for a referral and called Sessa at 8 in the morning. After creating a plan and explaining pricing, Ben began working non-stop for the next 5-6 hours! He used the top floor drain entry to snake the system and whatever else was necessary. He cleared the 3rd floor then the 2nd floor then the 1st floor and checked each one as he progressed. When finished, he cleaned up, replaced the drywall he cut out of the wall and told me how to address any future drain blockages and get an access panel for the future. WOW! The price was steep, but the work was incomparable and his approach to the problem was very comprehensive! He was really a professional in all aspects. He also spoke very highly of the company's owner and high standards! After owning a building for 35 years, this is definitly a company I will continue to use - and am very happy to have found it. Thank you to Angies List and contributors.
Description of Work: After 3 days of Roto-Rooter failure to clear or present a reasonable plan for clearing a sludge back-up in a 2nd floor kitchen of a 3 family house, I used Angies List and found Sessa. The plumber they sent (Ben D.) was amazing and such a relief from almost a week of stress over solving this problem. He first thught out the problem, looked at all kitchens AND the outsoide venting, and listened for water flow. Then discussed his concerns with me so I was able to provide a history that gave him a realistic answer to the problem.

I made an appointment for a plumber to come out and give me an estimate on the work I wanted done (replacing kitchen faucet and bathroom sink/faucet). At the time of making the appointment, I was told the would be a charge of $49.99 for the estimate. On Sat., 3/31/2012, Richie arrived on time and we talked about the work. I explained that I would provide the faucets and bathroom sink. He said that it would be cheaper for Sessa to provide me with the sink. He also indicated that the work would take 1/2 day. (I was somewhat surprised that it would take that long.) When he left, he told me that I would received an estimate via email by the end of the day on Mon., 4/2. I did receive that email with the following flat rate estimate: 1) replace kitchen faucet - $256 + tax and 2) replace wall mounted bathroom sink with same and faucet - $1036. I was also told that if the bathroom sink installation went well, Sessa would discount the kitchen faucet replacement 25%. I replied to Richie asking him to please provide me with a complete breakdown of the costs including labor and that I wanted to see a photo of the bathroom sink as well as it's cost. His reply was that he was in the middle of a computer conversion and wasn't able to provide me with a scanned copy of the bathroom sink. He also assured me that doing the work early on a Sat. would assure me that I wouldn't have to miss work (thus, now, not taking 1/2 day to complete the work) and wanted to know my time frame for having the work done (because of his computer conversion situation). I told him that it wasn't rush but wanted to have it done no later than mid-May and if the work was going to be less than 1/2 day, what the new estimate would be. Needless to say, I have not heard anything further from Richie. I feel like I've been scammed by this company and would not recommend them to anyone. I believe it would be a professional courtesy on behalf of Sessa and Richie to return my $50 estimate fee that I paid. I contacted another reputable plumbing company for an estimate, who did not charge a fee for the estimate, and told me that the work would take a max. of 3 hours and would cost only $500-$600 (plus tax) to complete.

I don’t know how much I spent on the job but they did a good job and they wore little booties. They were very neat and they cleaned up after themselves. They were very polite and they came quickly. They were good. I would use them annually to do maintenance on my system. He checked out my water heater as it was a year before its useful life. I spoke to him about doing a tank less hot water system. It is a two family house and so we have a huge hot water heater. They are going to do a tank less water heater for me which increases the value of the house a lot.

I called them on a Wednesday, they were here on Thursday for an estimate. They squeezed me in for service on a Saturday(they said that otherwise I would have to wait two weeks). The technician arrived promptly, worked continuously for approx. two and a half hours, was extremely neat . He appeared knowledgable about the situation. This company works on a flat rate for each part of the job, not on a per hour rate. The rates seemed expensive, but I don't have anything to compare it to. The bill was exactly what he said it would be. He also recommended a product to keep my drains running clean, which I purchased. I would definitely recommend them and use them again.

The service was excellent. Right from the start, the Office Manager called to confirm my appointment and then called on the morning of my appointment to let me know that the Plumbers were on their way. They are expensive, but I felt comfortable having the workers in my home and confident that they knew what they were doing.

As I wrote in a review that I posted on May 30, 2011, I contacted Sessa on Friday morning, May 27, 2011, of this Memorial Day weekend. My old flushometer had failed, so we were having a nice little emergency. Sessa sent Ben out a few hours later. Ben was not just a very capable plumber; he was also extremely intelligent and friendly. He spent more than 2 hours on this project. He could have just replaced the defective part of my old residential-grade flushometer; but he gave me the option to upgrade to a commercial-grade flushometer. The cost of the upgrade was double the cost of replacing the defective old part (approximately $600.00 versus $300.00), but I chose the upgrade because Ben showed me the parts that compose the Sloan Royal flushometer as well as the parts that compose the old Rex flushometer and I could see that the Sloan was much superior to the Rex. It is superior in terms of durability, but also, as it turned out, in quietness of operation, which is a pleasant bonus to ourselves and to the landlords who live downstairs of us. I cannot praise Ben enough. When I was not satisfied with the too little amount of water that the new Sloan was producing with each flush, which was happening because the Sloan, designed for commercial use, was generating just 1.6 gallons per flush whereas I was used to double that amount, Ben consulted his manager, and they improvised a work-around whereby Ben disabled the Sloan's shut-off valve so that the amount produced per flush approximated the amount to which I was accustomed. Praise must also go to Ellen, the office receptionist, who handled this whole situation with great professionalism. Speaking of professionalism, Sessa runs a highly professional operation. The prices for every kind of repair are in a large binder, so there can be no issue of an employee charging whatever he feels like charging. Also, the 6-year warranty on parts & labor that Sessa provides is at least twice what I believe most other service providers offer, whether they are in the plumbing business or some other business. For that reason, and taking into account the excellent quality of the work Sessa performs, I consider their prices, while high, to be quite reasonable. As a follow-up to the review I posted on May 30, 2011, I want to add that Sessa reliably and capably honors its warranty. About a week after Ben installed the replacement flushometer, it failed. I called Sessa and Ben showed up at my home within two hours, made some adjustments, and my toilet has been working perfectly ever since.
Description of Work: I am quoting here from Sessa's detailed invoice, as capably written by their employee, Ben, who performed the work, likewise capably: "Removed old style Rex flushometer from top floor bathroom. Installed new Sloan Royal flushometer w/ shut-off valve that required disabling for water volume purpose. Reconnected existing vacuum-breaker tailpiece & tested flushometer. Six year warranty on new flushometer."

Installation went without a hitch! The plumber, Richie, was prompt, courteous, and efficient. Phone calls were returned promptly, and everything went well. The only thing, I thought the price to just come out and give an estimate, $79, was a lot of money. That resulted in the B price rating. The price for the actual work after that was fine.

My husband was tired of the dirty old radiators that came with the house & wanted to switch over to baseboard (which is what he grew up with in Long Island) Richie from Sessa came over looked it over and told us what a waste of space (and money) it would be if we went to baseboard. He explained that we'd loose space and that baseboard would have to go around the rooms entirely costing us more space. If we wanted to we could have replaced our old radiators with new ones or recessed radiators into our walls. After discussing it, we decided to go for the recessed look to give us more space (as well as replacing the old hot water heater) They sent Ben who was an efficient and courteous worker (everyone was nice to deal with especially Ellen the receptionist) and even though there was a delay due to the age & structure of our house) The end result was great and we are happy with our decision. UPDATE*** needed emergency repair to broken boiler right before the recent snowstorm & they came within 2 hours, diagnosed and replaced our Circulator Pump. Great on the spot service & we were very happy and very warm in no time!
Description of Work: Replace old dirty radiators with new recessed radiators & replaced old hot water heater.
