Our low rating is based on both the work and customer service. We placed a call to Four States for furnace repair. Stating during the initial call our furnace ignitor was out. They were able to send a tech the next morning, (which was good!) A very nice young man showed up, but with no ignition part, and began “troubleshooting”. He first told us our control board was out, again we said we believed it was the ignitor. We had checked the board prior to his arrival and the tattle-tale light on the board showed the board was good. However, we were ok with that, as he is the technician. After a trip to town to get a new board, he installed the new board, then he told us the pressure switch was bad, another trip to town bringing back the wrong pressure switch, which he was told to try even though the tech told his supervisor it appeared to be the wrong pressure switch. One more trip to town for the correct pressure switch. After that installation the furnace would still not work. He then tested the ignitor, it tested bad (our original request). Another tech was dispatched with the ignitor. Our original pressure switch was re-installed, and the newly delivered ignitor installed, our furnace worked. The bill was then presented, at $1,266.00. We refused to pay the trip charge and time for the additional tech. The bill was readjusted to $998.80. I called Four States the next morning and ask to speak to the owner. I was told he was on a conference call and that the person answering the call could help me. I told her how disappointed we were at being charged almost $1,000.00, especially since we had initially stated the problem was the ignition. Her response did surprise me when she told me, customers only “think” they know what was wrong. After several minutes of “stressful” conversation, she ask me what I wanted. I told her we wanted them to know their parts costs were outrageous (we checked costs for the control board and ignitor), and although the tech was a nice young man, he didn’t have the experience to know what to do other than change out various parts. I also told her I would be posting reviews on Four States. She ask me if I was “threatening her” I told her no, I wasn’t, and that is was my right to review the business. She repeatedly ask me what I wanted them to do. I finally said ok, give me some of my money back, how about that? She then responded she would talk to the owner and they would be giving me a call back. It has now been one day short of 2 weeks with no response from Four States.
