Showed lack of professionalism by not returning calls

ORIGINAL POST: They made a 1960 bi-level look like brand new. Their crew was prompt, courteous and friendly. Mike the owner of the company offer a low key sales pitch and explained everything in detail. UPDATED NOTE (Spring of 2015) - The following Summer after I had my siding installed by Acorn in the Fall of 2013, I had the roofer who installed my roof just months before Acorn had done their siding install, to come and clean out my gutters. The roofer was shocked by the amount of damage Acorn had done to the roof with their scaffolding & equipment. There were torn up shingles, nails left in roof, holes and other assorted damage. I reached out to Acorn and sent them pictures that my roofer had taken of the damage. I have yet to hear back from them about my damage. At least a return phone call was expected. PLEASE NOTE: My original review of the work done by Acorn scored a rating of "A", however I am revising the OVERALL score to a "C". They are a good company, but lack a something in Customer Service after the job is done.

I called the provider 3 times and left messages that I would like an estimate for insulation in my attic. I never received a phone call back so the work was not done. I thought it was very unprofessional but they did not return my calls concerning my request for an estimate I was very disappointed because they seem to have good reviews on Angie's List.

We had a two-person crew for 2 days, who worked very fast and were pretty thorough. The house is noticeably warmer now than it was this time last year. When working on the exterior, they lifted up the shingles and drilled through the existing joints in almost all of the cases. In the one or two spots they were unable to do so, they alerted us to this before proceeding. There was some minor chipping to the exterior paint, but that was to be expected. In the attic, they drilled through the old floors. We knew to expect this, but some of the 3-4 floor planks broke completely and will need to be replaced. All of the interior insulation dust was vacuumed up by the crew, but you will still see some fuzzies float around for a week or two, as the insulation settles. You may want to consider power washing your exterior walkway and porches, as they will get pretty dirty too. Acorn is supposed to come back sometime this fall, to infrared scan the walls to check the insulation levels, but we have not yet scheduled for them to do so. Overall, a very good experience, at a very decent price. Would recommend.

It didn't. I never received the quote. And in today's market, I'm not chasing anyone. When I made the appointment I was a bit put off on how they positioned my job as small and they don't do anything less than 5 windows. My need was 6 in total. The guy who came to do the estimate was great. I thought I was going to go with this company based upon my experience with him as long as the price was close. But I never heard from them with my quote. Other companies provided an estimate on the same day. I gave them the benefit of the doubt by being a smaller, family owned company.

Owner is terrific. Workers were very polite and worked hard. Would highly recommend.

Very well - did a thorough job and I am looking forward to the cost savings on heating oil this winter. Quote was much less expensive than other competitors. In fact, we are having Acorn come back later this week to give us a quote for some more work. Very friendly crew, cleaned up after themselves - very happy with service.

They did good work at a decent pace, and now my friends can't even recognize my house. They did a really nice makeover.

They did a nice job. The guy was a good salesman, he went into a lot of detail and explained things well.

The sales rep was very professional and provided answers to all our questions. He explained the three phases of construction (roof, windows and siding) and when each would begin. Workers were on time, did a quality job and cleaned up all debris at the end of each phase of construction. I would certainly recommend Acorn Home Improvements to anyone considering home repairs or remodeling.

Very happy with work. Michael was wonderful to work with. He was very receptive to changes we made during the construction. He answered calls promptly and kept all his appointments at home punctually. The work itself was extremely well done. All our neighbours praised his work and said we had a wonderful exterior. The work was highly professional , neat , and done on time. All I can say is that his work exceeded our expectations. We are very happy with his work, and would choose him to do any additional work on our house.

After the crew left I realized cellulose had come through the walls in my closet (cedar closet). My clothes were covered in cellulose. Otherwise, very knowledgeable staff and professional. They did a great job and I would use them again.

Everything went fine. They were on time. Their price wasn’t the best price that I had but it was a good price. They did exactly what I wanted. I had no issues with them. They were very knowledgeable and they knew how to do the work. They were very accommodating. They answered all my questions without any issue.

Mike initially came and looked over the property. He advised me what he could do and what was needed. I told him I would only be doing part of what he suggested at this time and he had no problem with my plan and gave me two invoices---one for the exterior walls and one for the attic. He was excellent in explaining what was needed and could not have been nicer and more patient. A few days after I accepted the bid, his crew arrived. They could not have been more professional or nicer. The crew foreman took the time to explain to me what they were doing and answered all my questions. By the end of the day, the job was finished. The project could not have gone more smoothly. I simply cannot properly express how pleased I was with Mike and his crew. I plan to engage Acorn next year to insulate my attic and I would have no reservation about recommending them to anyone.

My primary contact was Mike from Acorn, he was very friendly and easy to talk to. I have an older 1920's 3-story house that had almost no insulation at all. The house was very drafty and the person living on the top floor was always cold in the cool/cold weather. Mike came by and checked the whole house with an infrared camera and ended up giving me extra tips on how and where to save some money on heating. Mike was great, not pushy or agressive like some other's I've dealt with. I felt the cost was good, one price for the walls and one for the attic. The team showed up when they said the would. Three very nice fellows who cleaned up after they left, both inside and out. Most of the work was done via popping the vinyl siding, drilling a hole, filling the cavity with blown-in insulation and then sealing it back up. Some of the wall and all of the attic had to be done from the inside. There was a decent amount of dust, but the crew clearly tried to keep it to a minimum. Some well placed drop-cloths helped a lot. They did most of the walls in one day, then finished and did the attic the next. They did miss a few spots that I noticed in the attic, but they were quick to address them and didn't try to claim they already did it. This crew was just just as friendly and easy to talk to as Mike was. Side note: 3 months later I asked Mike to come by and look at a spot I felt might have been missed, he came right over, verified the omission and had the crew out later that week. No hassle and no cost. Everyone makes mistakes, but some make it a nightmare to get what you are owed. I am very pleased with the service Acorn provided. Once concern I had was that on the inside holes they use a Styrofoam disk to plug the hole and then spackle over it. Some plugs didn't get set far enough back so when I sanded off the spackle (sometimes a lot of it) the plug was showing. Overall a minor gripe. The house is no longer drafty and no more complaints from the top floor! A good product, a well done job and a reasonable price!

Excellent experience from initial appt to completion of work. All were professional and knowledgeable. My garage was left post work cleaner than it was before! I would use them again without hesitation.

We had a really good experience with Acorn Home Improvements. We were interested in new roof. Since roof is one of the biggest expense and most important part of your house, I did thorough research on various sites including Angies list and better business bureau. Based on initial research, I found Acorn to be a very credible and reliable home improvement company so I decided to call them for an initial quote/estimate. Mike came as scheduled and explained various options and what would be the best choice based on age of my house and cost/benefit. Mike is very thorough (and a good listener. It's very important when the first time home owners have tons of questions). He doesn't use high pressure sales techniques like other big box stores sales people. He also suggested other things to improve efficiency and things we can do ourselves so that we can save some money. His quote was not the lowest compared to other quotes I received for similar scope of work but I was reasonable considering every little things he put in writing (6 nails per shingle, drip edges, 130 MPH wind warranty, 30 felt paper, 3 ft ice and water shield etc). I also asked for the references and houses to take a look where the work completed. Important thing to note is that we did not start the work until almost a year later. Mike tried his best to stick to his original quote. He had to contact his vendor to honor the original materials cost. I was really happy with that. I signed the contract and scheduled for the roof work. I was running on a very tight budget and informed Mike upfront that the final cost cannot deviate too much from the original quote. He agreed and absorbed the cost to replace rotten plywood. What a gentleman and man of words. I was impressed. The roof work was completed on time. The quality of work is great. Soon after the roof, I was interested in the insulation work so called Acorn again and they did a great job on attic insulation too. May be some Windows next time??? Soon after the insulation and roof work was done, we found that the attic did not have enough ventilation and there was ice dam issue on the front steps. So I called Mike to take a look. He looked at it and figured that there was no soffit ventilation in place and may be the gutter screen is causing the issue. Originally with the old roof we did not have any issue as we had the attic fan. But we had to remove the attic fan because with new roof we added passive ridge vents and to comply with manufacturer's warranty we had to remove the attic fan. Mike sent the guys again to drill holes and added soffit ventilation. He also cut some holes in Gutter screen which reduced the ice dams. I still have to see how is the attic ventilation which I should be able to check during the summer. Overall, I was happy with the professional work they did so I refereed two of my friends for the rook and windows work. One already completed a new roof and added bow window. The other one is already planning for a new roof. In a nut shell, I am very happy with the work and definitely recommended Acorn to anyone who wants to get a quality work done at a reasonable price. Work was done clean with little distruption and on time as promised

Job was done efficiently and the workmen were just as polite. The job did make a difference although we know that we will eventually have to save up for new windows to get the most warmth! I would definitely use Acorn again.

Overall happy with the insulation work Acorn did for us. Only downside was that they ended up leaving quite a few holes on the outside to get the insulation into our house and the spakle job on the outside and in the ceiling inside was not done very nicely. For us it does not matter as we have to get the house painted anyway and will replace the wood. Nevertheless something to keep in mind for others. Finally, they could have done a better job at cleaning on the inside once done with the work.

Overall, Acorn's service, quality of materials and professionalism were excellent. Michael Sheehan was the contact that we had from the beginning and he really took the time to understand our needs, based his solutions specifically on those needs, and all with a no pressure attitude (which is very unique based on other quotes and very appreciated). While we had obtained many quotes for this work from other companies, we mostly appreciated the honest approach and competitive prices when dealing with Acorn. They do not cut corners, stand by their products and offer only quality at a great price. They also have a great team working in the office that kept in constant communication with us involving the implementation and timelines of the project. Their installation team was very professional and cleaned up nicely after the job which is good since we have young kids. Acorn came highly recommended to us from a coworker a few years ago and prior to this job, they installed all new windows in our home which we are still very happy with. A few years after that job, one of the windows had a MANUFACTURER seal issue and Acorn replaced it immediately on good faith. I would highly recommend Acorn and undoubtedly use them again.
