Description of Work: We had a minor gas leak that needed to be resolved. We called Hofmeister based on Angies List reviews. They flexed their schedule at were basically at our house immediately (which I appreciate). Their employee quoted my wife $575 for approximately 3 hours of work ("it may take longer") and materials. Not unreasonable given what he thought would be a difficult job. Work was completed in about an hour including the employee leaving our house to get supplies from the supply shop. Total Bill = $575 even though the work took 1/3 of estimated time. The reason? Although the job was MUCH easier than he expected, the quote written in stone based on how difficult and how much time he THOUGHT the job would take. I understand and appreciate that they came to our house fairly quickly and took care of a serious issues, but charging full cost on a job that took a fraction of the time is egregious if the estimate was based on how difficult the employee thought the job would be. I could not get multiple estimates so we had to rely on their experience. How many other customers have they overcharged based on gross overestimation of work needed? After complaining, the company did reduce the total bill by $50. The owner of Hofmeister will probably respond to defend their policy by claiming that if the job took 10 hours, they would only charge based on original estimate. I have no idea if this is true but past experiences tells me this is not the case. I am usually hesitant to give negative grades especially for a company that seems to have a good track record. The issue over the payment was disappointing. We will not use again.

Description of Work: Came right away to fix an emergency backup into our toilet and bathtub that dripped down into the basement. Though I felt it was a bit expensive, problem was taken care of right away in a professional and efficient manner.

Description of Work: The plumbing services were fine but I thought a it expensive. The plumber was a little casual about the work. Will probably use again, though. I use the Newsletter to look for my possible needs often, it's quite useful.

Description of Work: Replaced 2 drains that were leaking, and going to repair the handle on the shower (faucet). Coming back Saturday for the shower, didn't have the part with him.

Description of Work: Hoffmeister failed to provide detailed information of costs or to present same in a timely and professional manner. They were unresponsive to repeated phone calls and cancelled meetings at the last moment. The individual who was to attend this meeting directed me to call the office to reschedule but when I did, I was informed that he would be out of town for a week. Our deposit somehow found its way into the hands of an employee who subsiquently left the company and while I was ultimately successful in retrieving the money from this person I would warn anyone contemplating engaging this firm to beware of such unorthodox practices.

Description of Work: I received superior service yesterday by a young plumber named Harold. I had a leaking kitchen faucet, and Harold came to assess the problem. When it was obvious that I needed a new one, he asked which type, which finish, and went to a supplier to obtain it. After installing it, he realized that the wire strainer inside was filled with debris. He said that wasn't acceptable...that the supplier had provided him with a used faucet. Even though it was after 5 pm, he returned to the supplier, obtained a new faucet, and even gave me a discount that the supplier had offered after their mistake! He was an outstanding example of what you can expect from using plumbers from Angie's List! Thanks, Harold.

Description of Work: My old boiler was on the verge of failure. I had called Hofmesiter in August for an estimate. Wasn't sure if I could even get someone to come see the unit with the weather being so cold but Fabio called me right backind and was at my house a few hours later. They honored the original quote from August and scheduled my new new boiler install for Saturday at 6:30. I called on Thursday afternoon. Fabio and his crew were terrific. Explained each step of the process. I can't say enough about them. Took out the old boiler and installed a new one with all new pipes in one day. Oh, and while some other companies had charged to do an estimate Hofmeisterm did it for free. Make sure you ask for Fabio!
