Mike came out for an estimate and was on time and very knowledgeable as usual. We had a very long list of updates and went back and forth over email for a week while we prioritized - Mike was very patient with all of our changes. We agreed upon the list, price and dates and a few weeks later his team arrived on time. Joe, Ralph, and Mark (I think it was Mark) were terrific. They spent two weeks in our house and did a fantastic job, were polite and professional. Joe kept in touch while we were at work, sometimes sending text photos of the progress. We were so excited to see it all come together - the lighting looks beautiful and it's nice to know our electrical is safe now! They patched up the holes as well, which was really helpful.
Description of Work: All City completely replaced all the ancient knob & tube wiring in our 100 year old house with modern wiring, upgraded our panel from 100 to 200 amps, and installed all new lighting throughout the house and outside.

My experience with All City Electrical was fantastic! Mike returned my call promptly and scheduled an appointment the following day. Joe was the electrician who came to my home. He was knowledgeable, personable and he was able to explain everything to me in a very clear manner. I had been having a lot of issues with my living room light fixture- specifically, my bulbs kept on blowing after a short period of use. On the last bulb blowing occasion, I smelled a burning plastic type smell which was concerning. Joe opened the wall switch box and the light box, inspected it all carefully and explained that everything looked good. Although somewhat embarrassing, it turns out that I was using the wrong type of light bulb! I would highly recommend All City Electrical!

Staff person arrived on time and worked efficiently and diligently to determine the cause. In some ways, it seemed an effort to find a 'needle in a haystack' since the cause of the problem could have been any outlet, source or even wiring inside the walls. After checking the fuse box and finding all in order, he began the process of elimination, asking for my help to confirm that lights were on or off as he turned power on and off through portions of the house. He found the problem - a short in the connection of a rarely used upstairs hallway sconce - within an hour and fixed in. His ability to solve the problem eliminated a potentially dangerous electrical situation in our home. He then offered to use the extra few minutes to hang a new light I had purchased for the entrance! He clearly was working quickly from the moment he arrived, a fact I very much appreciated since we were on the hourly clock in terms of what we would be charged.
Description of Work: Lights had been dimming in the house for months with increasing frequency. PSE&G said it was an interior problem.

Mike called me back within a 1/2 hour of calling him to get an estimate. He called me about before coming to the house to say he would be there in about 15 minutes. He was very professional. He wouldn't even come into my house until he put his 'booties' on. We scheduled the job for a few days later. Joe called me about before he came to do the job to let me know he would be here in about an hour. It was snowing like crazy, but he still came and came on time. He was also very professional and did a fabulous job. I will be using them again in the spring for several items I need taken care of. I can't say enough about All City Electrical and have recommended them to several of my friends already. Nice work guys!

Responded quickly and fixed the problem in the 2nd floor within hours, including running new wiring to address the issue. For the island kitchen, turned out that is was on the same line as an outdoor outlet that had a GFCI switch that popped. Since we just bought the house, we didn't know, but they simply reset it. Nice to have that type of honesty! We'll definitely use them again!

But Mike was the only one who decided to make time and send a crew member to check out the issue. A second electrician also came in as the first one couldnt figure out the issue. They made a couple of marking for Mike to check out later. Well, at the end of the day we shelled out $230 for 2 hrs of work - without a resolution to our problem. Mike called us back the next Monday to set up an appointment to review the problem. I would recommend him for his responsiveness. I would call him back because now I know I can count on him when I have a problem.

I hate writing a review like this, but the way my Generator installation ended I would never hire All City again. I looked at All City?s reviews on Angie?s List and almost all were positive. One thing that I noticed is that on every negative review Mike (All City Owner) posted a reason why it wasn't his fault. I expect Mike to respond to this review with a litany of excuses as to why my poor experience was my fault and not his. It?s clear that as long as everything goes as planned All City is fine to work with, it?s when something doesn't go according to plan that you will run into serious issues with All City, not the least of which is the temper that the owner has. When I initially interviewed contractors one of the things that sold me on All City was Mike?s emphasis on his experience as a Generac dealer. What he didn't tell me was that there is a difference between a dealer to install Generac generators and dealers that maintain their warranties. Mike is not a dealer that maintains warranties because as he told me ?Generac doesn?t pay enough to make that worth it.? This became relevant after the generator was installed. At that point Mike told me that the ?Positive terminal on the battery was cracked? and that ?Skirt was defective? and couldn't fit on the base of the generator. After I expressed disappointment that he had just installed the generator and now I had to get it repaired, Mike's response to me was, "What are you gonna do, s**t happens." At this point Mike tells me even though he had just installed the generator that he can not repair these items. Only a warranty dealer can repair them. Basically once he takes delivery he can?t make repairs to it. To say this defies common sense is an understatement. If this is truly Generac?s policy, and it appears to be, then it is up to the contractor who does the installation to make sure that any generator he gets has no defects in it. What is unacceptable is that after I have spent $11,000 installing a generator to be told that I am now responsible for getting it repaired; even if those repairs are under warranty, what has effectively happened is I have paid for a generator that was not in proper working order. After escalating to a Generac customer service manager, Mike agreed to install the battery terminal. This took a considerable amount of time on the phone with Generac, something I never should have had to do. The Warranty Prior to my signing a contract with All City I was told the generator came with a 5 year manufacturer?s warranty and an option to pay $495 for a 5 year extended warranty. Mike told me verbally and via email that with the extended warranty the warranty would be 10 years. It became clear after I purchased the extended warranty that it was still a 5 year warranty. What the ?Extended Warranty? does is add time on to when parts and labor are covered within the 5 year manufacturer?s warranty. I don?t think Mike was being dishonest when he sold me the warranty, I think he truly didn't understand what the warranty was. That Mike is a licensed Generac dealer and does not understand the warranty he is selling is disturbing. After an email exchange with Mike about this his final response to me was ?if you need further clarification you call Generac personally. If you don?t want the warranty I will give you your money back I make 40.00 on the transaction.? I wonder how many of All City?s customers are out there believing they have ten year warranty. Failed Electrical Inspection Twice Both issues were minor, no stickers labeling the transfer switch a secondary power source and the electrical line to the generator was not secured properly. When Mike came back to my house he adamantly told me that the stickers he had affixed to my meter and electrical panel were the ones that the inspector was referring to. The second time the inspector returned, he failed the generator for the same issue. Mike insisted that he was correct and after speaking with the electrical inspector in the town of Englewood it turned out he was and the generator passed inspection. Abusive and Angry Tirade When Mike returned to install the defective part he proceeded to instigate an argument with me about the first failed inspection and how it wasn't his fault that he couldn't initially repair the generator. When I said to Mike, ?I don?t have time to argue with you, just install the part? he threw part he had come to install and yelled at me ?Why don?t you install it yourself!? Seeing that he had lost his temper I began to walk away. Mike continued yelling at me ? Don?t make me chase you around for the money you owe me?, "I'm not even getting paid for being out here" (neglecting the over $10,000 I had already paid him) and then ?Why don?t you get the guy who installed your s**t service to fix it? (I?m assuming that was in reference to the electrical panel I had installed by another vendor). If I ever spoke to a customer like this at my job I would have been fired immediately, his conduct was unacceptable. The reason why the remaining payment hadn't been made at that point is because the generator failed inspection, per our contract the final payment was not due until the last inspection was passed. Whether or not the inspector was wrong to fail him is beside the point, it failed. One thing that has become clear in my interactions with Mike is that he is polite and professional up to the point that you question him. Screaming and cursing at a customer is not acceptable in any profession, I don?t know why Mike doesn't know that. Overall The other All City Employees were competent and did the main part of the job without any issue. What Mike failed to do was take ownership of a situation that was his responsibility. That theme ran through every problem I had with him. It was always someone else?s responsibility. Whatever issue came up it was never All City that was the problem: The inspector was wrong or Generac had to fix the part or it was my fault for not understanding the manufacturer?s policies. Mike didn't take responsibility for the job without being forced to. He installed a generator that needed repairs and then tried to make it my responsibility, his customer, to get it repaired. It's unacceptable, whatever Generac's policy is, I bought the generator from All City. This was a major job, to spend the kind of money that I spent and to receive the kind of service I received, to get yelled at and cursed at, is unacceptable. It is important to note that Mike never apologized for his behavior, he clearly doesn't think he did anything wrong. I have worked with multiple contractors since I bought my house and I have never had an experience where someone screamed at me and made statements like ?Don?t make me chase you around for the money you owe me?, this was after I had made every payment I owed on time, without any issue. Because of Mike?s conduct, his misrepresentation of the warranty and the multiple inspections that had to be done and I think it would have been justified if I withheld the final payment. In the interest of getting Mike out of my life I did make the payment. I would not be comfortable ever having Mike at my house again. Mike has a temper and when questioned or challenged on something he is a combative and angry guy. I would advise anyone who is considering hiring All City to take that into consideration.

To all other viewers I will not get into detail in regards to this customer but will be brief. Warranty info for Generac is sent to customer with the guidelines as per Generac. There was a defect with the battery terminal and skirt and was resolved. Generac and all other generator companys have guidelines to warranty based repairs which are performed by warranty dealers only not sales, service and install dealers as they are paid directly through Generac. We don't perform warranty work due to the fact of the hourly wages that are paid for warranty services as it does not fit our pay scale but we have direct affiliates that perform these services. All claims must be filed by the homeowner as per Generac's guidelines. We actually made the repair free of charge because of the customers dissatisfaction and Generac made a exception and sent the parts to us because of the customers dissatisfaction. There were 2 failed inspections but the inspections were failed under false violations and were never corrected and were passed when we contacted the Division Of Consumer Affairs in regards to these false allegations. Sometimes Electrical Inspectors who are not familiar with Generators or are not very code saby will use their authority to make violations that are not there or that they simply don't know right from wrong. In the beginning when these issued surfaced I offered 3 solutions to this customer to make him happy: Free annual maintenance for the 1ST year, making the warranty repair myself without being paid for it because he refused to have a affiliate perform the warranty service and a refund on the extended warranty which is $1,025.00 in monies returned but no matter what I offered or how much I apologized to this customer he was not happy and very rude and verbally abusive. Yes I did as a business owner loose my cool with this gentlemen but this was after 5 very intoxicating conversations where I was belittled and talked to with profanity. I'm sorry but I am a human being and will give respect always but there is certain things as a person that I will not take from another human being without responding. We are a great company with very a honest and hardworking staff and management and take great pride in our work and take grade pride in making a client happy and satisfied. We appreciate everybody's business and ratings and take all feedback and try to move forward in a positive manner. All City Electrical

As others have already commented, I found them to be extremely professional about their work. They were responsive via phone; they came and gave an efficient and professional estimate with no fuss and were very upfront about costs and provided an invoice estimate before the work began; when they arrived, they were courteous, respective, got the job done with no complaint; and made sure they had the manpower over the 9 hours they were here to complete the promised task (3 people in total, with at first 1 person; then Mike - the "boss" joining him; then ultimately a 3rd person taking over for Mike when he had to leave to attend to another job). I give them definitely an "A" overall and had only two minor criticisms: their cost for changing two to three prong's was something like $28/outlet, which struck me as possibly a bit high (but in the grand scheme of things in terms of total price for everything they did, I was definitely satisfied); and they were so busy that it took a while for them to actually come back and do the work (though they definitely did it on the day promised and showed up on time, etc., and this was I'm sure mostly a product of their enormous popularity). I'd definitely recommend them again - in fact, when they got here they pointed out that our house's previous owner had actually used them a few times in the past, including just before we moved in.
Description of Work: Created new fixture in office and installed light I previously bought; installed new light in walk-in-closet using fixture they purchased; raised height of front entrance porch light; installed new light fixture we previously purchased into kitchen; changed 21 outlets from 2 prong to 3 prong and replaced two light switches.

The team arrived on time on the day scheduled with all necessary materials. The work took almost all day as it was extensive. I could not be happier with the outcome. The lights were placed correctly, and work great. The All City Electrical team made suggestions for recessed light placement and type of closet light that were excellent. They went to great lengths to move the cable line through the attic to save me the hassle of cutting holes in the wall. They were neat and clean and respectful and I couldn't be any happier with the work. I will recommend them to others, and use them again for sure.

Hello First and foremost thank you for all your business over the years. We would never refuse the business so I think there was a miss-understanding. We were contacted several times about a issue that when we came out we did not see because it wasn't occurring at the time so we felt like you had a problem with utility's end and did not want to waste your time or money pursuing the issue but we are glad all has been resolved.
