Perfectly well...the representative, 'Ed', was polite, clean - personally and professionally (he even put on shoe coverings before entering home), knowledgeable, accurate and fast working! I definitely intend to work with SM HVAC from here on out, for maintenance and perhaps more!

He is responsive when it comes to scheduling.

The service was good. We've had problems ever since we got this furnace. It seems like every year they've come out. It's something to do with the furnace. I think what I've got to do is, every year just schedule him to come out to do a maintenance before the winter. He was the one who installed it. It's a 92% efficient furnace, it did cut our gas bills a lot, when we put it in, but I think it's kind of like having a sports car. It has got to be very finely tuned. It runs great while it's running. He was good to be responsive, he called me back and emailed me, but we did have to wait a couple of days. That is the problem with being just basically himself and a helper, I think. It's not like if you have a corporation that has a whole support staff. He was responsive to answer and schedule it, it's just like when your heat is broke for a couple of days it's not something great. He always comes pretty much when he says. It took them an hour to complete the service. They came and my wife was working from home and they went, she wasn't sure what they did, but the furnace seemed to be working again and then it turned out, on the bill, that he had to clean some stuff.

We have an old oil furnace that has seen better days.  Usually I can keep it up and running, but this time the problem was more than I could handle on my own.
I know several people who have been very pleased with SM Heating, so I gave them a call.
Steve showed up exactly when he said he would.  It was immediately obvious to me that he knew what he was doing and didn't have to "figure out how this unit worked."
With a few new parts and several adjustments, the furnace was firing again.
Overall, it was a very pleasant and professional experience.

They were very prompt. He was a nice guy. He was clean and neat.

We turned on our air conditioner for the first time this season with a heat wave making it 95+ degrees in NJ.  The air was blowing but the outside unit did not turn on, so the air was warm.  We called Steve, whom we'd used before for heating issues.  

He immediately found the problem - a mouse had shorted out the unit.  Steve cleaned out the unit (not a pleasant job) and replaced a damaged part, but unfortunately, that only pointed out another problem and ultimately he found that the unit had been damaged by something falling on it, and it had slowly leaked all the coolant and was dead and needed to be replaced. 

Steve was able to get a new unit to us within 2 days and installed it and it works great!   He quoted me a fair price (base on some research I did on the internet) and the final bill was exactly what he quoted me.  Plus, he did not charge me for the parts he installed in the broken unit, since he said he could use them elsewhere.  

He took time to explain things to me and answered all my questions thoroughly.   He carted off the old unit and left the area clean and picked up.  He also did not try to sell me a bigger unit or more efficient unit than I needed, even though I did ask about upgrading.  He said for the amount of air conditioning usage we had, it would take a very long time to recoup the savings from a higher efficiency unit, and it would required upgrading the air handler as well.  He put in the most efficient unit that the existing air handler could handle, which for our small home, is plenty!

I highly recommend Steve and S M Heating and Air Conditioning.  He and his wife return all our calls within a reasonable time and most important, he was able to come out quickly (within a couple of hours of my call to him) on the first really hot day of the year!!
